I am so confused as to why this place has 4 stars.... come on people. I have had bad thai food, but this place takes the winning trophy. This place was so disappointing. My drunken noodle had too much sauce, and the sauce was sweet? It was just like a regular, almost Chinese style stirfrye. No drunken noodle taste depicted at all. The papaya was even worse. Nothing close to a traditional thai or even laos papaya. No salt, fish sauce, shrimp paste, tamarind, no umami whatsoever. Just a bunch of lime juice and bland papaya strips on top of greens? So disappointing!!!!!! Come on owners, just taste your own food. Are you truly happy with what you sell your customers? I'm sure you dont taste your food because not alot of Asian cooks taste their food and it's all rote memory. But please for the love of God, taste your food and adjust the recipe in your head. 3.5 stars This place is, literally, a hole in the wall. It is found in a kiosk to the side of the entry of the Harris Teeter Cloverdale supermarket and has a large counter for takeout as well as a few tables with a senic view of the produce section for table service -- which might be kind of fun in its own way. Also, with the open kitchen, you can see that the place always looks clean and tidy which is also a good sign. The staff is always prompt and courteous. This place is my go-to for Friday nights in that I can put my order in, pick up some groceries, and by the time I am through the check out, my dinner is ready to go. sweet! In general, the food is quite good and is very reasonably priced. My favorite dishes include the green thai curry and the pad see-ew. Many of the other noodle dishes are winners as well. The pad thai is a bit on the sweet side and lacks complexity (maybe no tamirind? I'm not sure) that I look for in this dish. The spring rolls are good (if standard). The wonton soup is a little on the bland side and I wasn't wowed by the satay chicken. The only dish that I have flat out not enjoyed is the cashew nut veggie sautee - the only way I can describe it is as having a flat, woody type flavor. The portion sizes are fairy humongous - definitely two meals for each entree. I don't think they have a liquor license - but for me, since I usually get takeout, this is not really an issue. (esp since this harris teeter has a decent wine section so you can pick up a lovely riesling to work with your thai dinner!!) All in all, this is a place I come back to at least twice a month and it is a delicious, quality, it not totally authentic, meal for a price that is much more reasonable than other thai places in the area (ahem, downtown thai?). read more

I love their Healy location so I was happy to try this one. First, I'll make excuses for them: maybe because I ordered close to 9pm and they were closing soon that explains things... BUT my food was over cooked- the tofu was like tiny crunchy bricks. The broccoli was so over cooked it was a weird green-brown color. The sauce on my pad see ew was fine, but I've had better from a lot of places. Overall it just didn't taste good, it was overcooked food that seemed to sit out, only it took them ten minutes to cook it, or at least that's how long they told me to give them. They are very friendly, and I might try it again just at a different time- I have friends that love this place. read more

Incredible Thai food! Everything we have ordered. Everything we accidentally ordered thinking it was something else. They even gave us a whole entree for free, thought I'm not sure if that was an accident. Try the spring rolls, spicy noodles, rice noodles for something that will blow you away. My husband and I had lunch here a few days ago and I was pleasantly surprised. The fact it was inside a Harris Teeter threw me off but it was delicious! I had the sweet and sour chicken and it was amazing! So much flavor and tons of meat and veggies. I LOVED the egg rolls that came with the meal. This place is excellent. It's incredibly convenient to order some dinner or lunch and do a little shopping at the Cloverdale Harris Teeter as well. The seating is limited, and I've never had the opportunity to sit and eat, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a spot during lunch time. Lunch is the most economical meal to eat here. Example: Pad Thai, 2 spring rolls AND a cup of soup all for less than $8. The soup always leaves much to be desired. It usually consists of bits and ends of various vegetables and their skins in a weak broth. The portion sizes for lunch are the exact same at dinner. This is my go to place for takeout. I always order the green chicken curry with extra eggplant and it is delicious! Sometimes the curry can be spicier than others but it's never been so hot that I couldn't eat it. My husband likes to get the spicey noodle and we often split the egg rolls or spring rolls. We've also had the pad thai but my favorite is the green chicken curry. I also like that it's inside Harris Teeter which allows me to go grab a six pack or run an errand while I wait. Located inside the Harris Teeter which is a bit odd but you can shop while you are waiting. We get carry out from here about once per month. This is decent Thai food that is fairly priced. I don't love, love, love it--I've had better, cheap Thai but its also good enough that we keep eating there. We haven't had anything we didn't like but I can't bring myself to give them five stars. Its lacking something--I can't put my finger on it. The curries are flavorful and not too spicy. The soups are fresh and good. The dumplings were a surprise hit with the family. Coming from Dallas where Thai food is plenty (well, in comparison to Winston Salem), this little restaurant inside the supermarket is pretty decent. I ordered: -Chicken Pad Thai: Orange glass noodles. There were a lot of noodles, and I thought there was a fair share of chicken in the dish as well. I found this dish to be really sweet though, and the noodles stuck together really badly. It was a lot of noodles too! Enough to feed two people. -Chicken Red Curry: Very sweet curry. I wish there was a little more spice or kick to it. Again, good share of chicken and vegetables. -Thai iced tea: I'm going to stop by here for this whenever I drive by. -Tom Yum Soup: I love the soup! It came hot, spicy, and filled with your typical tom yum goodies like mushroom, chicken, etc. Mmm, making my mouth water now... Overall, it's a good Thai place for a small city. This restaurant is great. I get carry-out orders several times a month while I shop for groceries. I've tried many dishes on the menu but you can't beat the value of the curries. My favorites are the red and green. For about 8 or 9 dollars including tax, you get a huge container of curry. I split it with my boyfriend and we even have 2 more servings for later when we make more rice. I like to order the curries fairly spicy, but I've noticed that the spice level isn't always consistent. I usually order it medium, which can be mouth burning after every bite spicy or barely spice at all. I still love the value and quality of the place. After hearing and reading wonderful stuff about Thai Sawatdee in Harris Teeter, I decided to try it out. And wow was I surprised! I ordered the pad thai and pineapple fried rice - which were both very underwhelming. The pad thai was weirdly orange and was very bland. It looked like something that popped out from a instant ramen pack from inside the Harris Teeter itself. Doesn't have any spiciness to it at all. Everybody told me that this was the best thai restaurant in W-S. If that's the case, I'll have to drive outside of the triad to get thai food. I saw the great reviews and love Thai food so I went by this past weekend for take out and a red box movie. I asked the lady what she recommends since I had heard it is all good. She told me a particular dish which I can not remember and said it would be a little hot. I told her "not too hot right?" to which she said yes! Just moderate. Well I went home and took one bite and my mouth went crazy, I thought I was going to die. I NEVER throw away food but I tossed the meal after trying a few more bites and had to cool my mouth with a big cup of milk. I will try this place one more time and get something that is not HOT at ALL and see how it goes. Just be careful. This place should really be called ole faithful. It always seems to be open, so if you get those late night cravings before 10pm you're in luck! If you call in your order, no worries! It's typically never more than 10-15mins. I order something that's not on the menu anymore and they still make it for me, thank you! Their prices are very reasonable and they are located right inside Harris teeter so you can pick up some last minute groceries if you needed to. I was surprised to see a Thai restaurant inside a Harris Teeter and went for it. :) I think I could've ordered the recommended dishes but I was on a rush and didn't read up on the reviews. Probably would've went with one of the curry dishes. Service was quick. You order over the counter and pay. Then find yourself a seat in the dining area and they will bring out the food to you. read more

Super kind, super nice super quick. The chicken satays are huge (we normally order 2 orders but only needed 1) and the Penang curry was delicious. We got spicy and it was 4-5/10 heat wise. If you want spicier probably worth mentioning. Wouldn't mind more veggies in chicken pad Thai but I bet a lot of people prefer more noodles. We loved it thank you so much! read more

Ordered take out on the recommendations of the posts. Definitely wouldn't want to eat in if you were looking for ambience, but the food was very good. Panang curry had lots of vegetables and a great flavor. Pad Thai a bit gluey, but tasted as good as most Thai places. Lots of food and great take out for the price. read more

To be completely honest this place is runs a close second to many Thai restaurants in San Diego Ca. The severs are nice that is hard to find today. The wait time for food is much better than Chang Thai! You don't have to wait getting your water refilled! The appetizers come hot be ready! Lol The main dishes have a good presentation, simple but good! The atmosphere and look inside is okay. For me it doesn't need to be fancy it has charm with character and I love that! If they played Thai music it would be even better. I had panang curry I love this dish! If I find a woman who can make this your mine! Lol If anything I would cut back on certain ingredients, to give it a fair balance. Meaning don't just cook for Americans to enjoy, give it more authentic flavors. Personally, I prefer the Thai Sawatdee off of Healy drive because you get better attention from the staff, but the food is just as good. Tolerable Thai food. Nothing too outrageous going on here. Another reviewer stated the Pad Thai was quite orange, and he wasn't kidding. Bright orange. Flavor was a bit off too compared to what I have come to expect from Pad Thai throughout the country. Nothing too terrible though, just off. The lime that comes with it took it from barely edible to a okay flavor. The levels of spiciness seem to be designed for people who can't handle heat. Their level 4 (hottest) was something my 8 year old would eat without even a second thought, and she generally stays away from spicy stuff. The angel wings appetizer was way off what I'd expected. The entire thing was dry, yet somehow it managed to be both flavorless and over spiced at the same time.
