This is near my daughter's campus and was her choice for our dinner tonight. We both love Thai and Thai Spoon and Sushi did not disappoint. They have a lovely dining room, large menu and great prices. We ordered shumai for an appetizer, I ordered the Panang curry with chicken and she ordered two sushi rolls. My only complaint was that my food came out fast and sat getting cold while we waited for her rolls. Timing definitely could have been better. But service was good and we enjoyed our meal! read more

We got the red curry, pad kee mao, tum yum soup and ban zai roll. The flavoring on the pad kee mao was spot on, but the noodles could use a char (preference). The tum yum was delish. The ban zai roll was just ok. It was heavy on the imitation crab meat that I didn't fully got to taste and enjoy the fish under that pile. Red curry was ok in my book, but my sister enjoyed her dish. Perfect corner location and my go-to spot when I'm down in South Loop and craving Thai. The interior is no-frills, which I always take as a good sign at Thai restaurants. I always order the crab rangoons, spring rolls, and tofu Pad Thai! I've had my fair share of Pad Thai around the city, and other than a few spots up in Ravenswood, Thai Spoon has the best in my opinion. I hate dry pad Thai, and the sauce with this one is generous, flavorful, and the servings are HUGE (I eat a lot and get two more meals out of it). The tofu is also flavored and has great texture, which I've found isn't always the case when you get tofu instead of meat! As for the crab ragoons, I usually stick to ordering them only from Chinese restaurants. But I took a chance, and LOVED the sweeter filling these had. Oftentimes I've found that Thai restaurant crab rangoons are too onion/black pepper-forward for my liking. But these had that sweeter flavor that I love. After looking at the reviews, I thought it would be a nice spot to grab a late lunch. As I entered I realized that the restaurant was attached to a hotel. It didn't deter me at first, but as I got through my meal it did became a source of echoing chatter as people entered and exited. The waiting staff were nice and on task. My water glass was never empty, they checked on me throughout the meal, and were prompt in getting my bill at the end. As for the food, I got their Vietnamese Roll as a starter. Nothing to write home about and were overfilled with lettuce. For my main meal I enjoyed their Pad See Eiw. It was right on for spice, and hit the spot. Noodles were cooked nice and the veggies were fresh, but sadly the meat was tough. Overall, I'd say this spot is average. My photos show 1/3 to 1/2 the total entree in our dishes. We will definitely have leftovers! The red curry had plentiful vegetables and you choose your protein. There was a little heat. The spicy basil wasn't very spicy, but there was a nice under heat after eating for a few bites. This also had lots of vegetables - not just onions. Next time I'll add a note to make it hotter. All of it was very good, and I would recommend. Personally, the massaman curry was my favorite! It was so flavorful and filling I just couldn't get enough! It's a must try in my opinion, especially if you're new to Thai curries. The pad se eiw was good too with lots of veggies and tofu. It was one of the less sweet options I've had which I appreciated. I also liked that it wasn't just Chinese broccoli (which I'm not a fan of). Lastly, the coconut boba was good - it was more of a coconut ice slush with boba which I enjoyed. Had this as take-out twice Seafood Tom yum: it was a lot sweeter than I thought. A hint of sourness. you can taste the lemongrass, because there's BIG, chunky pieces that you can't eat. Nothing memorable. I was super disappointed and barely any seafood. Green curry: I had this the first time and I was a huge fan. It's the right amount of creamy and spicy. Compliments so well with all the veggies and rice. Pad see ew: the noodles were thin so it's soaked in a lot of the sauce, oily sauce. The added chicken was super plain. For the soup, we asked for a level 4 and a level 3 for the pad see ew. The soup was not spicy compared to the pad see ew. I was so confused. Ordered a beef lad nar and chicken curry for pickup. Food was ready by the time I got there and the workers quickly got me settled and on my way. Portion size was about average. The lad nar was definitely on the sweeter side than what I've typically had elsewhere which I saw was a common theme from other reviews but decided to try it myself. Ordered some sushi and a bubble tea and was pretty disappointed with the food. We ordered some spicy salmon rolls with crunchy tempura topping. The sushi would've been fine if the fish & veggie to rice ratio was better - definitely felt like I filled up only on rice. The green tea bubble tea tasted nothing like green tea but rather like frosting - you could clearly sense the artificial-like aftertaste and it was far too sweet to finish (even between two people!) Was looking forward to the tapioca pearls at least, but sadly the bubbles were way undercooked and too firm. That being said, the food was prepared really quickly and the staff was very friendly.
