I went to pick up to go yesterday, ordered tom yum & panang chicken & pot stickers. This was the 3rd time coming here. Living in Round Rock, this is the only Thai restaurant close enough. Very disappointing to find there was hardly any chicken in the soup & the curry. Mostly just broth and cut up mushrooms in the tom yum; carrots & peppers in the curry. Also they charged me $27.44 for these 3. According to my calculation based on their website prices, it should be only $23.76 including tax. Wonder why the difference??????? I'm giving 2 stars because this places is nothing special. The were 4 servers and all of them on their phones, I ran out of water and they didn't care to come by to fill it. We had egg rolls and calamari as appetizers. Very good but I wasn't sure what the goal of my drunken noodles was. The chicken was dry and the noodles were slightly overcooked. It was just sort of a mess that didn't have much flavor. My husband got Mongolian beef, too much soy sauce. The crazy busy atmosphere was one thing, having a toddler run past your table repeatedly while screaming is another. We asked the waitress to plz do something abt the kid, she knelt down into my face to tell me there was nothing she could do lol Yea there is, hope the obnoxious parents come back cuz we're not. I've been coming here for years & bring all friends & family. I'm taking it down to a 4 star simply because the amount of SUGAR they put in EVERY dish. It has just gotten too much it's hard to find a dish that isn't sweet. Bit overall it still is made well, good portion size & cost. I haven't found a good Thai place since I moved here from Maryland. My best friend and I had discovered a hidden gem, and everytime I visit home, I try to stop in. Now that I'm here in Austin, I've found another that's even better! Thai Spoon doesn't look like much from the outside. But as soon as I was seated, I just sniffed the air and immediately knew I was in the right place. It smells delicious in here, and the food tastes even better. I ordered the same-old Chicken Kapow, and it was amazing from the first bite. Even the veggies were on-par with the chicken instead of just being filler. I did order extra chicken and I'm not sure what the usual portion is, but it still seemed a little smaller. May be because I came in for lunch. I live closer to Lakeline Mall, but I'm not opposed to making a further trip for great food. And if I'm ever in the area again before work, this is MUCH more preferable to the fast food in our shopping center. read more

Excellent service, excellent food! The restaurant is kept very clean, and it stays pretty crowded in there. One thing I will say (definitely not a bad thing here) is that I am used to a "medium" spice with my thai food at other restaurants, but this place is definitely on the spicier side of things...so next time ill be getting mild! Medium spice isnt playing around at Thai Spoon...which means if you are a "thai-spicy" level eater with your thai food, you will not be disappointed if you order it. The food is really flavorful and fresh. For dessert, I highly recommend the combo dessert with the thai tea ice cream...so yummy. Portions are also quite large. Upon entering the restaurant I stood at the door for about 3 minutes waiting for someone to greet me. After 3 minutes a waitress advised me I can sit anywhere. I was seated for approximately 4 minutes before another waitress approached and asked if I was eating in or taking out. I said dining in. She then brought me a menu and left. 6 minutes later the first waitress approached and asked if I wanted to order. I waited almost 15 mins before this even occurred. Kind of annoying. There were 3 other tables with 2 people max ordering so it wasn't a busy day. After taking my order the waitress came back and asked me for my drink. 17 mins and finally ordering a drink. I ordered the yellow chicken curry and spring rolls. Spring rolls came out at 7 mins. The spring rolls were really small but they tasted good with the dipping sauce. Curry came out in 11 mins. It tasted really good. Overall I'd rate this experience. 6/10. Food taste 9/10. Service 4/10. Staff friendliness 8/10. Would I come back? Maybe. Wouldn't be a top 5 choice for this area. A real neighborhood gem, tucked away in a nondescript strip mall between two rival Round Rock nail salons. I've watched this restaurant grow its business from their very early days. Their vast menu of food options has always been great. But, they have finally upped their waiter and kitchen staff to properly support their lunch and dinner crowds. All the waitresses look like they're hair stylists or Project Runway hopefuls. The food presentation is good, and the service is lickety split fast, especially at lunch. And they'll make things as spicy as you want. No, the food is not stellar, not exquisite, not ineffable. It is however, noteworthy, palatable, more than adequate. May I even say, reliable. Definitely worth the trip to the thesaurus to find the right word. The ginger soy salad is tasty, and the penang beef I had last time wasn't half bad, if not over-creamed with coconut milk. That all said, the QUALITY of food here is great, it's just modified to fit the tastes of what you'd expect in Round Rock. I was lured here by the promise of lunch specials for $6.95 including a salad....Thai Spoon didn't disappoint! Two of us had green curry, two of us had red. The general consensus was that the red was better, but both were very good. I also had Tom Kha soup - YUMMY! My sister and her fiance went back to Abilene craving this and talking about how it was the best Thai they had ever had! I have other favorites in Austin, but this place is close to home and the prices are LOW. The people were very nice (they weren't even rude when we accidentally stayed 30 minutes after lunch closing!) and the restaurant seemed new. I'll definitely be back for the lunch special, it's too good to be beat and they have it on Saturdays too! read more

So I only ever order takeout from here but this place has the best Thai dishes I've had in the area. I typically just get the drunken noodles all the way spicy and some fried calamari or fried pot-stickers and between those three they've got me comin back for more! The worst customer service experience. I ordered Pad Kee Mao, universally understood to be Drunken Noodles. I got home to find that my to-go order was the Pad Kee Mao sauce with jasmine rice. That's not what I call drunken noodles. The restaurant was contacted and the person taking the order informed me that they do Pad Kee Mao differently than other places, something he didn't tell me when he took the order. I checked their full menu in the restaurant when I returned and it does come with Jasmine Rice on the menu. The menus I saw online did not say that. He tried to explain to me that Pad Kee Mao is done differently in different places In Thailand and I should have known. I Googled and couldn't find anything searching "Pad Kee Mao with rice". Wikipedia, while flawed, even refers to it as Drunken Noodles. So does the New York Times. I think if you make a main dish dramatically different in this case, your drunken noodles are drunken rice, you should let all people that order to go know this. When I returned to the restaurant (15 minute drive, thankfully not longer), he told me he would make Pad Kee Mao with noodles, but I'd have to pay the full price for it, even if I offered to give my original food back. No thanks to pay another $11 for a dish I commonly get for under $10. Maybe I've been spoiled by so many positive customer service experiences where the owner/manager does everything they can to make good, even when it's not cheap for them, that when I encounter ones like this, I hold them to a higher standard. But regardless that's the standard restaurants are held to and when they fail to live up to, it's all the more disappointing. There's too many restaurants in this world that not only make great food, but also provide great service. I'll choose to patronize those. By the way, their drunken rice wasn't that good and not worth ordering, even if I were to eat here again. Their sweet yellow curry is good, but I won't miss it. read more

Thai Spoon has an excellent staff and decor. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. Their lunch specials are fantastic. Two lunch specials and soup for $15.00. A fantastic deal! I was less them impressed with my drunken noodles. The egg was an interesting touch but was too rubbery and the entire dish lacked the spice I had asked for. The Payne curry was "decent". The servings were generous though, we really appreciated that. The Tom Kha was fabulous the second day around but really lacked flavor the first day. I guess sitting in the fridge let those flavors really meld. Each dish came with a tasty salad. I'm not sure if I would try Thai Spoon again. The bargain was fabulous but it wasn't very memorable. I was hopeful as it's close to home but I would rather travel to Tittyayas instead. read more

I get a little emotional when talking about this restaurant, so please, bare with me. There have been weeks when this is the only food that I will eat. What could make this place better? Free refills on the yellow curry maybe, but I'm not sure I would survive that. I don't want to downplay the service, because it's exceptional, but as long as they serve this food they could yell at me, and call me names, and I'd still keep coming back. thai spoon is under new ownership, and i have to say that their food is fantastic! being from southern california, i was treated to many different thai restaurants that dished out food that was to die for. finally, thai spoon has matched (if not surpassed) the best i've ever had. some of the favorites are the tom kha soup, phad thai, red curry, and phad se-ew. every single dish is unique and extremely delicious. for all you spicy food lovers, the panang curry is a MUST have. order it THAI SPICY. the new owners are very genuine and care about their customers' experience, which is always a plus. they are very open to suggestions and criticism about their food, although i haven't had any to offer. every dish that i've had has made me wanting to come back for more. the interior and atmosphere of the restaurant is very clean, modern, and soothing. it's always very relaxing to go and eat there. the service is great. we're always being tended to and our waters are constantly full. it's important to feel welcome and treated with respect when hungry. if you're in the round rock area, don't be stupid. We had a quiet-talker for a server that got annoyed when asked to repeat herself and didn't smile once. Seems overpriced for the quality and portions of food. This is a nice place for lunch and it is located close enough to the Dell Campus in Round Rock that you can get back to work on time if you only have an hour to spare. It is located in the HEB shopping center, but as soon as you enter the door you are calmed by the interesting decor. The service is quick and friendly and the lunch time prices are not killer. As an extra bonus, they will give you a 5% discount if you pay with cash. Check out the menu on their website for more information. I had the Panang Curry with pork, and it was delicious. Another nice thing about this restaurant is that you can order your level of heat by choosing either mild, medium, hot or Thai hot. If the food gets too spicy, be sure to order some Thai iced tea to cool your taste buds. I also liked the Thai Peanut sauce that you can order with the salad. If I get a chance, I will try the Satay on my next visit. Overall, this is a nice calming place for a lunch stop. You will return to work energized and ready to conquer the world. read more

Thai spoon is my new obsession. I want to thank you for having not only the best Thai food in the area, but the best shrimp summer roll I have ever encountered. The peanut sauce on the side was literally perfect. Spicy, peanut buttery, smooth. Nothing compares to the flavor in that sauce.
