Not sure why anyone would give this place less than 5 stars. Either they do not really like Thai food or understand that this place is one of the best spots in this area period. For us, it's a short walk to some tasty Thai grub. Our favorites include: Appetizers - Yum Ped Yang - a salad type dish with honey roasted duck, shredded & tossed with ginger, scallions, celery, red onion, chili paste & lime juice sauce. So tasty and can be easily shared. - Veggie Spring Rolls - Skin is thin and filled lightly with small amounts of cellophane noodles and carrots. I like these style of spring rolls as it is light and tasty. Noodle dishes - Pad Thai is one of the most well known dishes and it is done well here. Most noodle dishes here are delicious so you can't go wrong with the others like Lad Na which has wide noodles in a brown gravy sauce and Pad Kee Mao that is more on the spicy side with some tomatoes and your choice of meats. Seafood - Salmon crispy in yellow curry sauce. If you feel like fish, the salmon is lightly battered and served atop some shallots and carrots served with rice. - Goong Phuket - once in a while I go for this dish that highlights huge grilled shrimp with minced chicken and diced bell peppers in a chile sauce. Lots of shrimp and probably can be shared since it's a big dish. Overall, we have gone to this restaurant over 20 times and still crave it every week because the dishes are so tasty and different from our areas choice of restaurants. If you are in the neighborhood, check this place instead of TaraThai, which I personally hate. read more

I really like the food here. I really want this to be my go-to Thai restaurant in the Kentlands, but another local place wins out because they are cheaper, more convenient, and they have this crispy calamari that calls my name from afar. The food is good, well seasoned. Dishes which are listed as spicy generally are. When they have the brussels sprout appetizer, don't think, just get it -- the combination of textures is just amazing. The larb gai is well balanced, and the tom yum is just right. Although the portions are big, it's enough more expensive than the other place (with that calamari, ahhhhhmmmmm), that I'll almost always go there instead. read more

I can definitely say I'm a regular at Thai Tanium. Not only is it a couple of miles away from home, but it also happens to be my favorite Thai restaurant in Maryland (my 2nd favorite is in VA). Granted, I usually get the Veggie Pad Thai on the regular, but I've tried a couple of their other dishes including; Panang Tofu, Pad Pak Ruam Jae, and the Crispy Tofu-all of which are delicious and very satisfying. Yes, you guessed it, I am vegetarian (lol). All of these items are only $10 which is a steal for the portions and for the area. The ambiance is always very chill. This place is good for groups and for children. The bathrooms are always clean. It can get loud on the weekends but that's a given. The staff is always nice and informative. All in all, a great pick if you're into Asian food and don't want to spend a lot of money. Plus, they're pretty consistent. read more

A Thai restaurant just around the corner of the Paragon movie theater in the Kentlands community in Gaithersburg. I know a lot of the Thai food are savory, but this place was a bit too salty. The best tasting part of my meal was the crispy shrimp spring rolls (Por Pia Shrimp) appetizer. I also got the Pad Thai and some glass noodle dish with shrimp, and veggies. The presentation of the food made it look very appetizing, but I didn't think the taste quite matched up with the look. read more

Wow, this food is DELICIOUS! I ordered the tom ka soup (vegetable) and the tofu green curry (spice level: medium). The soup was bursting with flavor and the curry dish was the perfect balance of spicy, savory, and a hint of sweet. Their food here good but nothing extremely memorable in comparison to some of other Thai places I've been to. I generally just stick to Pad Thai and Tom Yum here since they're staple thai dishes. I've been holding off on finishing this review, I originally was going to award a 4/5, but after multiple visits I think the full 5/5 is deserved. Pros: extensive menu, consistent flavor and quality, large portions for the price, convenience for Kent/Lakelanders Cons: no glaring ones. seriously. Admittedly I've been to places with Thai food that I thought was "better", but TT is so close on that front that I decided it was 5/5 worthy. Dining in has always been a pleasant experience, with efficient and friendly staff and expedient kitchen to table delivery. However TT is also great for call ahead/pickup - make your order 15/20 min ahead and you'll be enjoying some tasty Thai after a short trip. Everything I've tried I'd order again (is there really any better recommendation than that?) but personal favorites include the pad see saw, crispy salmon, and chicken satay (order all that and that's easily dinner for 3 hungry folks). So, if you're in the 20878 or nearby and are in the mood for some Thai, I wholeheartedly recommend TT. read more

OMG this place is amazing!!!! I walked in and was 30 minutes earlier than my friend but the hostess insisted I was welcome to sit at a table while I waited. Air (yes I spelled her name correctly - I asked her!) was our waitress (my friend knows her from eating here so often) and she was wonderful. We got the Papaya Salad (very spicy) and it was so good. I got Pad See Eaw which I get at every Thai restaurant but this was the BEST I have ever had by far. My friend got Drunken Noodles and those were great. While I waited for my friend to arrive I watched all the dishes coming out of the kitchen and they all looked so good. The portions are a good size and I could see all the diners around me were really loving their food. This was such an awesome dinner I can't wait to go back so if you're reading this and you like Thai give this place a try and see if you can be seated in Air's section as well. read more

I recently relocated to an area that has no Thai restaurants. Fortunately, an errand required me to come back to the area and I made sure going to Thai Tanium was on my to-do list. I've eaten here many times in the past, as I'm from this area and the experience is always amazing; this visit was no exception. I ordered Soft Shell Crab, as a carry out order no less and it was just as delicious as it would have been in-house. I'm so thankful they're open. read more

Hadn't had a meal here in some time so we decided to do takeout. We had steamed dumplings - hard and over cooked; pad se ew noodles with pork - noodles were over cooked and the pork was so chewy it was not edible; tofu with vegetables - veggies were so over cooked they were mushy; and a shrimp and pork dish - which was decent. The meal set us back $60! All but the pork that came with the pork/shrimp dish went to the trash after a few mouthfuls of food. This was one of the worst meals we have ever had - anywhere. I don't know if they have a different cook than in the past or if their attention to detail has dropped off. In either case I don't recommend this restaurant. Zero stars wasn't an option (maybe yelp should change that!) Save your money. Go elsewhere. There's a decent Thai place around the corner. Try that instead. read more

Food is AMAZING! Some of the best Thai food, if not the best, i have ever had. The green curry chicken and the spicy eggplant is out of this world.. combine the two dishes for an amazing experience. My girlfriend and I came here for lunch on Sunday it had been our second time here and we will definitely be back in the future. The staff is very friendly, and attentive, service was good... lots of smiles. This restaurant is located right in the Kentlands next to the movie theater, perfect for a pre or post movie meal. I ordered chicken panang, Tom yum soup with shrimp, a crabmeat roll and spicy friend rice with extra egg and beef to go. Everything was perfect! Except the fact that the beef in my friend rice was tofu (I think???). It's weird to think that they got the two mixed up but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Meh. This place isn't THAT great compared to other Thai restaurants I have visited. Here, I tried the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles), Pad Ka Pow, and Bangkok Seafood. The Pad Thai was okay, but it was very greasy in my opinion. The Pad Kee Mao was one of the better dishes; the blend of spices and wide rice noodles was pretty good. The Pad Ka Pow was VERY spicy and the meat (I chose beef) was rather chewy. The Bangkok Seafood was alright, but the curry did not taste very good. Overall, our food came out in huge dishes, but we soon realized the portions were quite small, even for dinner. The service was okay, not excellent. We were seated immediately, given water and other beverages, and they got our order quickly, but when we had our food, our waiter/waitress disappeared to pay attention to other tables that haven't ordered. We had to half-yell to grab waiter's/waitress's attention to get refills or our check. Didn't leave a good tip in the end... If you want really good Thai food, go to Tara Thai in Gaithersburg (near the Rio movie theater, on Washingtonian Boulevard). Their food is much, much better than the food at Thai Tanium. It's a 10 minute drive to the Gaithersburg Tara Thai from Thai Tanium, but it's worth it! read more

The entrance seems to be off the side in the same location as Five Guys. I ordered the drunken noodles. It was good, not great. Flavors were nice, but wished it had a bit more wok flavor. I really love the idea of the Kentlands, it is close to my house, seems to have multitudes of things to do but every time I go over there I seem to be a bit disappointed. It's almost like there is just the facade that it is a cute place to hang out but in actuality its just mediocre. So when we were looking for some place to get Valentines Day Lunch after a movie in Rio we decided to give this place a try. Now if you have seen any of my other reviews I am a Penang fan, always order it, no exceptions. The Penang here is quite good, I asked for extra spicy and the spice was just right. We got Chicken stay as an appetizer and it was also quite good. I do have two complaints, 1. they got our order wrong and they also got the order at the table next to us wrong so apparently this is a common occurrence. 2. For the price the portion was quite small. I expect to have leftovers and this time there weren't any. We'll go back because it is convenient and decent Thai. read more

I've been here twice with a small group of friends. The $20 special is a great bargain. The service is very good; the house wine is decent. It's not a place I ever take my leftovers home with me. Nothing really stands out for me. I frequently do not finish my appetizer or the main -- either not hot enough (temp wise) or not flavorful or just a bit too greasy. Been here about three times now. I always order the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. It definitely hits the spot when I want a quick thai food fix. The sauce isn't too overwhelming and more importantly, they don't skimp out on the chicken or the shrimp which is a plus for me. The service is just ok. All three times, the waiter/waitress would nicely take our orders and once we get the food, you rarely see them. So it's not the best service, but it's not bad. Why three stars? Well, I've just simply had better that's all. The tom yum soup is just ok. It's sour and spicy at the same time, but I think it's more sour than spicy. So if you like it that way, that this is the place to order it. The curries they have aren't that tasty neither. But they are not bad at all! So I have to go midway here and just say they are a-ok. Bottom line: yes I will come here again for pad thai; for curries, I think my husband would prefer elsewhere read more

I wish there was a 3.5 star option. Giving it a 3 stars is not right but than again, giving it 4 stars would have been pushing it on my end. I like this place. The location is beautiful. I would say that the inside decor could be a bit better. The service is really good. The food is pretty okay. My favorite is the Kanom Jeep: steamed Thai dumpling with shrimp, chicken, crabmeat and water chestnut in wonton skin served with sweet soy sauce. $6.95 for six small pieces but it's tasty. I'm addicted to Pad Thai, so I always have to consume it anytime I enter a Thai restaurant. I'm not really impressed with this establishment's version. I've tasted better. Take your business elsewhere. I have been a faithful customer for nearly 4 years now and they have officially lost my business. New management took over recently and revamped the menu, moving a lot of great items off and taking away their specials. I placed an order for delivery as extra spicy as I always do, and the kitchen made it so spicy that it caused a blockage in my ear and for me to lose partial hearing in my right ear for half a day. I called the restaurant to inform them that the kitchen was making food unreasonably hot, and was told that I am just like other customers who order food too hot and then call and complain. I literally have been ordering the same things, cooked the same way at least once a week for over three years. I will never step foot in this restaurant again. Sirwian has better specials, customer service and is delicious. Thai Express is inexpensive and just aa good. read more

Excellent food and very friendly service, but the main reason I am writing this review is because you NEED to try the fried roti ice cream dessert. Both the presentation and the taste are absolutely amazing. It's a sweet dish with chocolate and marshmallows, so if you have a sweet tooth, it's a must try. Fine Thai food with nothing particular to recommend it. There's nothing really much to say about the place. It's in a good location and we got to sit outside which was really nice since the weather outside was perfect. I ordered the brussels sprouts salad. The spice was overwhelming. The sprouts were nicely prepared but the rest of it was just spicy. It tasted like the same type of generic thai sauce that would go over the papaya salad. The rest of the ingredients were fairly generic supermarket veggies. For my main course I ordered the eggplant with beef. Again, the spice overwhelmed the other flavors. There wasn't tons of beef- most of the plate was the eggplant. The eggplant was cooked fine. My fiance liked his panang beef better than I liked mine, and the future in-laws seemed to enjoy their food just fine. They both don't like spice and gave no complaints. I'm giving it two stars because it was very meh for me. I wouldn't suggest people go here, and I wouldn't go back given the opportunity. There's better thai in the DC area. read more
