We have been here three times now and this place never disappoints. The food is always fresh and tasty. Today I got the Gaeng Keow Waan Curry which is a green curry with coconut milk, bamboo shoot, green beans, eggplant, bell peppers and sweet basil. The menu indicated that this was a spicy dish and it was right. Typical of Thai food, even the mild is spicy so if you don't enjoy a kick, you might go with one of the items on the menu that don't have the little spice symbol on them. I don't eat a lot of Thai food but this was amazing! It took awhile to get through to place a carry-out order but the wait was totally worth it. I had Pud Thai with chicken, extra mild and vegetarian spring rolls. The spring rolls were crispy, hot and flavorful. The sauce was sweet and very good. My Pud Thai was a huge portion and everything I hoped it would be. It was enough to get two servings and share a little with another person. Bland. Very, very bland. A friend ranted and raved about their food and we ordered the drunken noodles, pad Thai, and soft spring rolls. Both noodle dishes had no sauce whatsoever. First, I am surprised that I have never been to Thai Taste since I do not live far from this restaurant. It was totally empty today when I ate lunch. Since it was my first visit, I chose to order the pad thia lunch special and I was surprised that the gentleman taking my order did not ask me what spice level I preferred. I am torn with my review because I like little Mom & Pop restaurants but the food was just off. I ordered the tom yum soup with my lunch and the version that they served me must have been cooked with a bunch of lemongrass! Wow was it sour. So sour it made my tongue somewhat raw. The 1 piece of tomato in the bowl helped to sooth my palate. I could have used a couple more pieces. Thankfully, the pad thai wasn't overly sweet like some restaurants tend to make it in the Midwest but the flavor wasn't overly exciting either. I didn't taste any garlic, I could not find any egg and the rice noodles were over cooked for my liking, plus it had no spice. When I'm on the North East side of town, Thai Taste is where I usually go for Thai food. This time I ordered the Basil Fried Rice, and once again, it was delicious. I've been here for lunch before as well and their portions were large and I usually have leftovers to take home. Beware, their spice levels are quite accurate. I ordered Hot and it was Hot. I know some other Thai places, I'd had to order more on the hotter side to get some spice, but if I did that here, I may have not been able to eat it. This place is the quintessential Thai restaurant. It is small, friendly, efficient, and doesn't put on any airs. I come for the lunch special. $8-9 (depending on your protein choice) gets you soup or salad, a spring roll, an entree, and a little slice of rum cake at the end. It's a phenomenal deal. I always order the pad Thai, which is delicious, and the lunch portion is huge, in my opinion. One word of caution: the "spice level" can be fairly variable. I ordered a regular coke, Chicken Pad Thai (spicy), and an extra spring role. I received a water, no extra spring role, and an actually very tasty dish of Pad Thai. The part of the review that I do not like to give is regarding the service. I'm sad to say they were not very busy, but there was only one server and I feel he really needs some coaching so he can improve. The diamond in the rough was the food! When my guy and I were looking for something tasty in Indianapolis, we didn't expect to pull up to a strip mall and find Thai Taste. What's great about Thai Taste are the extra little touches they put into things. Plating is actually quite beautiful compared to your standard grab & go Thai place. Also, the adorable rice shapes! There's nothing better than getting rice shaped like a heart or star - so cute and put a smile right on my face. Even when we sat down the owner said I get the special pink menu while my fella got some other boyish color, ha! I had their lime chicken ($12.95) which was great but could have used slightly more lime sauce. It wasn't a huge portion for the slightly pricey tag but it got the job done. It had some seaweed topping which was an interesting touch and added some salt to the flavor which was nice. I also had some of my guy's Mango Chicken ($11.95) which was slathered in sauce. It had so much sauce I was dipping my dry pieces from my dish into his sauce. The mango chicken was packed with veggies and fruit pieces with small pieces of meat...not quite enough meat, but the flavor was sweet and delicious. I ordered a curry, noodle dish, and a order of calamari. The curry was great. The noodles were just alright. My big problem was the calamari. I ordered takeout and when I got home, I found that it was a mix of soggy calamari and french fries. I don't know why I'm always skeptical of Thai places. I always love them! Came here with some coworkers for lunch. Nine bucks later, and I'm stuffed! That includes dessert! I wish the place was a bit bigger or had a hostess stand at the front. You walk in basically to the middle of the dining room. Be sure to come EARLY to get a spot for lunch! This place gets packed! Also, they do not split your check unless you ask for it so be prepared for that if you have a group who needs to pay separately (i.e. just ask on the front end before the check comes). For lunch, you can choose a soup or salad starter. I went with the salad, and it was a very small plate of iceberg lettuce and some other veggies (typical for Asian places, I've learned) with some peanut dressing. The peanut dressing was very sweet, but somehow it worked. My coworkers looked at me like I had 2 heads when I ordered the "hot" version of my beef fried rice. Was it hot? Yes, but for me, it was just the right amount. Still, this is very HOT stuff so if you don't absolutely love spice, maybe go for medium or mild. The egg roll was good too, and we asked for a dipping sauce which I recognized as sweet chili sauce found at many Asian restaurants. Lunch wrapped with a rum cake that is basically pound cake soaked in rum. My coworkers immensely enjoyed their meals as well. The one with soup said it was not too fishy. It was the type that can be at other places, but she really liked it. She also got the yellow curry and said it was great with just the right amount of spice. Due to the lunch rush, we had to wait a while, and we did not try any of the other drinks as we were fine with water with our food. The first indication of strangeness occurred when the main dishes arrived first. They checked. Oops. The appetizers arrived some time later. There was one part of the appetizers that had meat in it, according to the menu. The menu lied. If meat doesn't bother you, that fact won't bother you. Then the entre came, vastly over-seasoned to the point where it was close to inedible. They also changed the recipe from my first visit. Pretty disappointing. This was our first time here and loved the lunch special deals. First, we were told that our order would be ready in 15 minutes, and we arrived in almost exactly 15 minutes, and the food was ready and PIPING HOT. I loathe lukewarm food, and so impressed that they had it ready exactly when they said it would be, and everything was freshly prepared. We got the curry rice noodles, pad kee mao, and pad thai. Pad kee mao had some super fresh string beans, the rice noodles were cooked perfectly, the flavors were balanced. Beef could have been slightly dry, and the portion was on the smaller side, but the seasonings, texture, heat were unbeatable! Pad thai was slightly tart, slightly sweet, had the non-negotiable mung bean sprouts for crunchiness, and generous scattering of peanuts. I loved the curry rice noodles- I asked for Thai hot, and they definitely delivered! Very creamy without feeling like a zillion calories. Hot, salty, sour, sweet, and delicious. Rice noodles were cooked perfectly--they did a great job accounting for carry-over cooking in the take-out container. I would have drank all the broth/soup portion, had it not been for sad toddler and infant in the car (we ate in the car, cuz COVID..). The tom yum and glass noodle soups that came with the lunch special were probably more MSG-laden than anything, so I'd pass on those next time and try the salad. We loved the spring rolls- they were hot, and the filling was seasoned so well. Have not tried the rum cake yet, but I am looking forward to it. Until recently, I had not been here in a long time, but it is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Indianapolis. It is a small, cozy, single-room restaurant in a strip center in Castleton Point Shopping Center, next to Penzy's Spices and near Ross' Dress For Less and Trader Joe's. When you enter the front door, there are tables throughout the room, along each wall and in the middle. For those needing handicap accessibility, the tables are somewhat close to each other, but there is enough space for someone in a wheelchair to fit at a table or at the end of a booth. Also, on that same topic, the front door is a swinging one but is definitely manageable. The restaurant has an almost upscale feel to it, although casual dress is definitely acceptable. There are beautiful wall hangings and framed art on the walls and nice tablecloths on each table. You wait to be seated, although sometimes when the hostess or server comes out of the kitchen, they may direct you to sit wherever you like. The food is delicious and flavorful. After being seated, we took a few minutes to look at the menu and then gave our orders to the server. I often order the Basil Fried Rice or Thai Fried Rice, but this time I decided to get something different, and ordered the green curry. This comes with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, green beans, eggplant, bell peppers, sweet basil, and extra choices of chicken, beef or tofu. I ordered it with chicken, and it was so good! The chicken was tender and cooked well, and the sweet basil added just the right amount of savoriness. The curry sauce was delicious, but very spicy! Between the bell peppers and other spices (I'm not sure what all is in it), my mouth was on fire! But it was so worth it. To end the meal, every entrée is served with a slice of rum cake. It is a small slice, but perfect for balancing with the savory/spicy main dishes. You can often taste some of the rum flavor, but it is not usually too strong (except for once when my dad and I passed out on the couch after eating it--we joke that they baked it and then poured the entire bottle of rum over it). Although sometimes we havd to flag down a server for drink refills, overall, the food is delicious, and service is always attentive and friendly.
