Until recently, I had not been here in a long time, but it is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Indianapolis. It is a small, cozy, single-room restaurant in a strip center in Castleton Point Shopping Center, next to Penzy's Spices and near Ross' Dress For Less and Trader Joe's. When you enter the front door, there are tables throughout the room, along each wall and in the middle. For those needing handicap accessibility, the tables are somewhat close to each other, but there is enough space for someone in a wheelchair to fit at a table or at the end of a booth. Also, on that same topic, the front door is a swinging one but is definitely manageable. The restaurant has an almost upscale feel to it, although casual dress is definitely acceptable. There are beautiful wall hangings and framed art on the walls and nice tablecloths on each table. You wait to be seated, although sometimes when the hostess or server comes out of the kitchen, they may direct you to sit wherever you like. The food is delicious and flavorful. After being seated, we took a few minutes to look at the menu and then gave our orders to the server. I often order the Basil Fried Rice or Thai Fried Rice, but this time I decided to get something different, and ordered the green curry. This comes with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, green beans, eggplant, bell peppers, sweet basil, and extra choices of chicken, beef or tofu. I ordered it with chicken, and it was so good! The chicken was tender and cooked well, and the sweet basil added just the right amount of savoriness. The curry sauce was delicious, but very spicy! Between the bell peppers and other spices (I'm not sure what all is in it), my mouth was on fire! But it was so worth it. To end the meal, every entrée is served with a slice of rum cake. It is a small slice, but perfect for balancing with the savory/spicy main dishes. You can often taste some of the rum flavor, but it is not usually too strong (except for once when my dad and I passed out on the couch after eating it--we joke that they baked it and then poured the entire bottle of rum over it). Although sometimes we havd to flag down a server for drink refills, overall, the food is delicious, and service is always attentive and friendly. HANDS DOWN the BEST Tom yum soup I have ever had in my life. WOW I didn't realize soup could be SO flavor packed! The green curry with chicken was delicious and perfectly spicy.. I could have used more sauce but only because I didn't it want it to go away! So perfectly spicy, creamy, velvety, and bright! And this place is my top two place to go for that. First, the service was nice and people were friendly. Older gentleman and ladies working. Probably an owner? Food came out quick. To add beef, it's $2 extra for anything but it was good. Price is little pricy compare to other Thai places I've been, it's around $11-14 a plate. My noodles were cooked right as well as my beef. Only giving 4.5/5 stars because my husband's beef was tougher to chew. And the decorations looked like they haven't renovated in years. However, the place didn't makes feel dirty. The restaurant is very small, but cozy and the staff seems very attentive to every patron. Thai food is so vegan friendly and any thai restaurant I go to, I always feel comfortable asking what is vegan friendly on the menu. I know that once a month on Thursdays the buffet is all vegetarian, and I hope to come to it soon. But until then, I will continue to savor the vegan pad thai, red curry, and coconut soup!!! (check out pictures of the pad thai and curry below) The vegan pad thai is loaded with fresh, beautifully cut veggies layered on top of noodles and crushed peanuts with just the perfect amount of sauce. The red curry has a nice spicy kick to it and has a plethora of fresh veggies in it, with rice on the side. I love how the spices can be tasted throughout and how they give you lots of veggies! One of my favorites is always the coconut soup. Warm, sweet, salty, and fresh all in one. Whether I'm feeling great or feeling a little under the weather. I can always go for a cup of coconut soup. The coconut soup is so light, yet filling, you don't feel nasty or bloated afterwards. Just ask for them to be made vegan and they will make them vegan for you. Wow! This place is amazing. My review is based solely on the Thursday night buffet. My husband and I had a taste for Thai and it was the first Thursday of the month. I was excited because I heard about their vegetarian buffet. First off, we arrived and the line was outside the door. I really wasn't prepared for that but it went fast. The Thursday buffet ends at 8:30pm, which provides plenty of time. The inside is very small (cozy), so be prepared to get to know your neighbors. Yes the decor is dated but we came for the food. The buffet options were great. All of the food was hot (heat) and a little spicy for your typical buffet. We go here whenever we want thai food simply because this is the best one in Indy...food wise, service and attentiveness of the owners (they are very sweet). Flavors are rich but not overwhelming. We got the 'mieng kum' for appetizer which is fried coconut with nuts, lime and shrimp paste wrapped in veggie leaf...never had something like that before but I loved that dish the most because of its light and fresh taste. The choo chee shrimp, and fish and herbs are amazing too. They always give free dessert at the end of the meal whenever you are dining in or carrying out food. I have an opinion that unassuming restaurants are often the best. Such is the case with Thai Taste. I stumbled upon it when I was in Castleton and craving Thai. The first time I ordered pad Thai off the menu, and I noticed they had a buffet on Thursdays (1st Thursday of the month is vegetarian). The pad Thai was great with generous portion sizes. I always get the same one or two things, so I decided to try the buffet. It had several different options. Most of them were mild enough for me to try. A couple of the dishes were spicier for the spice lovers. The food was hot and replenished frequently. I now have some ideas of things to order that are NOT pad Thai. Thai Taste is pretty good. The folks at work love to go here because they have a great lunch deal, and I gladly accompany because you get a good amount of food for the price. The lunch special is less than $10 for your choice of entree with a spring roll, soup and rum cake. BEWARE the spice levels! I like fairly spicy things (I'm a Med-Hot Buffalo wings, but not Blazing type of person) and often come out of here after ordering medium where I had tears in my eyes. My friends who love this place are pad thai loyalists, but I'm a menu adventurer and found my curry good and my pad seew and drunken noodles just the same pretty good, but more boring flavor and vegetables and skimpier on meat than other Thai restaurants. No complaints, but not my top choice. Don't go for the service...you get your food but they don't go out of their way to be nice. Sometimes I go and have enough water to cool my burning taste buds, sometimes not. I will go again...as the lunch special is great and it's convenient. It's a good Thai place. read more

This is our second time here. The place is decorated very simple but relaxing and clean. First off, the Pho bowls are enough for two people unless you are super hungry and can eat the whole thing on your own. Second the BOBA drinks with tapioca are super tasty and yummy. Just try the Taro with tapioca balls, I recommend it highly, you won't be disappointed. Spices and hot sauces are on the table and that is most valuable when you like the heat and want more. Gold star for Thai Taste! This place is a strong contender for the top spot on my list of Thai faves. Recently, I stopped in for a quick lunch with friends. On the weekends, they do not have a lunch menu, but post a list of current specials. I wanted to try the crispy chicken, but went with my unusual, the Pud Thai (there name for Pad Thai) with shrimp and chicken. My friend ordered crab rangoon for us to share. It didn't take long for the appetizer to arrive. The presentation of the dish was nice and thoughtful. The rangoon was sweet, creamy, and delicious. If I could, I would eat them every single day. It didn't take long for the entrees to come out. My Pud Thai was perfection. It was not greasy, heavy, spicy, or overwhelmed with peanuts. Can I PLEASE tell you about the rum cake?! It was by far the BEST rum cake I've ever had. Simply amazing. I wanted to purchase an entire cake. At $3 a slice, it was worth every cent. This place is great and worth a visit. This was my first experince trying Thia food, I wasn't sure what I would like so I choose the buffet. The food was really good, but I was very annoyed by their buffet policy. If you leave food on your plate they charge you for it, which to me defeats the purpose of a buffet. I also wasn't a fan of how tiny the space was. It was so packed with tables that you could hardly move around without bumping into someone. There's no way this place is up to code on fire capacity. That's a serious issue. This place is located in the strip mall on 82nd street. I found this place via my trusty Yelp app. Inside, the decór was somewhat outdated, but the wait staff and friendliness was definitely nice and never outdated! Neither dishes have I ever had, but we both weren't in curry moods. Sarah seyz the lime chicken was on-point to what she has had before at other locations. Thai Taste gets five stars for having what I consider to be the absolute best dessert in Indy. You haven't lived until you've tried their mint ice cream. None of that fakey green crap for Thai Taste. They obviously make their ice cream in house, and with fresh, fresh mint. It's worlds away from what usually passes as mint ice cream in the States. You can order the sticky rice with two scoops of ice cream for around $5, I think, and this is not to be missed. All of the ice cream flavors are exceptional (mango and lychee being particularly notable), but the mint is to die for! Everything I've had has been fantastic, and I've sampled a lot of the dishes here, as it was a favorite of the ex-BF's family. Curry whore that I am, I can't help recommending that, but the ex was partial to the whole fish. It was far from special, more like dump the freezer burned fish and get $17.95 for it. It's Indiana it's not a surprise the fish was frozen, I cook frozen fish all the time, it tastes good and is not hard around the outside and devoid of flavor. When I told the server she said I got what I ordered and have to pay for it. I told her I did not order inedible food. something else but I have to pay for it. I ordered this delivered tonight, was really disappointed. I ordered Tom Yum soup, soft spring roll and Geown Waan Curry. The soup was good, though more a bit more veggies than actual soup. The soft spring rolls (summer rolls in most restaurants) were VERY chewy but tasty. The green curry was most disappointing. There is no ability to choose heat level, it came spicier than I'd hoped. It had plenty of green beans, but little other advertised veggies. No actual tastes other than heat. Hugely disappointing. I eat Thai from many northeast Indy restaurants, it's my favorite cuisine. I haven't been to Thai Taste in a while so I decided to stop by and get the Thai Sizzling Beef. It is made with a oyster sauce tomatoes and pineapple. It is a bit outside my regular eating pattern but it is definitely worth a try. The meal definitely comes out sizzling and entertaining. The food is well presented. I was very impressed. I ran in for carry out after hitting up Trader Joe's. I'd asked the cashier if he ever went there and he RAVED about the quality of the food. Thanks, buddy, you were absolutely right! The ambiance of this place is very cozy and homey. The restaurant is not much more than a hole in the wall. However, they had some long tables, so I'm guessing they could accommodate large parties if you called in advance. I ordered at the counter and opted for the crispy spicy chicken that was on special. I didn't see it on the regular menu, but I hope it is available frequently. It was so good! It was normally made with green peppers, which I do not like. They were happy to substitute Thai chilis for me, which amped up the heat. Whew! I had about a 15 minute drive home. I was impressed that most of the fried chicken chunks stayed crispy even doused in sauce. The meat quality was good, too. Mostly white meat and no gristle that I noticed (to be fair though, I wolfed it down too fast to notice much). They also included an almond cookie with my meal. It was clearly store bought and a little stale, but hey, it was free. The staff was very friendly and brought me a water to drink while I waited. The sign on the door notes that they have buffets on Thursdays, and once per month the buffet is all vegetarian offerings. I cannot wait to go back and eat inside. Thai taste is one of the best thai resteraunts on the northside. The trick to this place is to come on Thursday dinner service. Every Thursday they serve a thai buffet filled with so many wonderful options. They have a standard of two types of curry, pad thai, green beans, spring rolls, and thai toast. Then they rotate a few other dishes in. Usually a pork, chicken, and seafood. There isn't a bad option to pick. They also have a soup and a warm rice pudding like thing for dessert. And if meat or seafood isn't your thing, they have a vegetarian buffet on the first Thursday of every month! If you're not hungry enough to indulge in the buffet, then feel free to order from their expansive menu. They have all of your favorites and some. They also have homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors. And if your a weirdo who likes to drink tapioca balls, then you can order some bubble tea. When you come, because you will, make sure you come early on buffet night. The space is small and they don't take reservations. And if you have to wait, it is well worth it. read more

Keep driving to another Thai restaurant. Went to Thai taste again last night, maybe the last time. Two ridiculous things tonight. One - I asked for another serving of rice, and I was charged $2! Nowhere on the menu does it say you will be charged for rice, they didn't say so when we asked for it, and $2 is excessive for a scoop of white rice. Second - I ordered one of the green curry dishes from the menu (GAENG KEOW WAAN), it said it had eggplant, green bean, bamboo shoots, bell pepper, basil. It came out with no eggplant. And it had carrots, baby corn, mushrooms, water chestnuts, broccoli, a whole variety of vegetables not listed. Generally curries are not a vegetable medley, especially when it's not listed. I asked, and they told me that eggplant only comes if you get meat, I had gotten tofu. That is not stated on the menu, and frankly, that is ridiculous. Based on protein, you get eggplant or you don't, and without saying "assorted vegetables," they just dump a handful of frozen veggies in the pot and serve? The first time I've visited this restaurant, I was not happy with it. We have gone several times on the vegetarian Thursday buffet which is good. Last night was another time we went outside the buffet, and it is just not good. There's another Thai restaurant just up 82nd St. (Thai Orchid), which is even closer my house, and it's pretty good. I do not think I will go to Thai taste again. Here is my review from a couple months ago: Just went to Thai Taste, about 8:45. Close at 9:30 on Saturdays. Alright, this was like my, 9349803284092380498230th trip here, so obviously something is working. I love this restaurant. They have my favorite soup, Silver Noodle, which is great for rainy days or if you're feeling under the weather. The pad thai noodles here are never mushy, and always a perfect ratio of veggies, protein and noodle ratio. The rice also comes in the shape of a heart, so I don't know how much more love you can handle from a sweet, local spot. ALSO. PSA. LISTEN. They have a buffet on thursday nights for $13.99 (or something close) person. And it absolutely SLAPS. It is so yum, I could cry. I won't, but I could. It's a really great variety of food, and if you're a big thai fan, and have FOMO when you only order one entree, take this buffet for a spin. Thai Taste is a gem! The ambiance is nice, the restraint is clean, and the service was great. We decided to try out Thai Taste for the first time on a Sunday evening, which turned out to be a busy night. We thought we'd be turned away because we had a group of six and it was packed, but they shifted around some tables to get us seated. I typically get massaman curry or pad Thai but instead I tried the Lava chicken-medium level. It was very good and filled with fresh veggies. I enjoy spicy food and the medium heat level was perfect. Others at my table had pad Thai and yellow curry-they really enjoyed there food as well. I had a Thai iced tea as an "appetizer" because I can ever seem to make it last very long, it was delicious as usual. Great take out! The pad thai is delicious. It's not the typical pad thai noodles, they're smaller noodles. I get it thai hot and it is very hot, just the way I want it. I've also had the deep fried tofu in special sauce, and that is quite the delight. The tofu is crispy and also soaks up the sauce. There are about 12-15 dishes including: pad Thai, chicken curry, mussels, fried rice, pineapple salad, tom yum soup and for dessert tapioca in coconut milk. Yum!! All the dishes were delicious. This has been my very favorite Thai place to go to in the greater Indianapolis area for some time. I've definitely tried the others but for me, the combination of great food and good service from the couple that run the place make it worth the trip out to Castleton. Being in a strip mall isn't exactly glamorous, but it's such a relief not to have to fight for parking or wait in line to be seated. Maybe it's just because I tend to prefer places that feel a little less polished and a little homier. But, whether its pad thai, their very spicy curries, or my favorite dish (which I can't pronounce, but it's the special peanut sauce and vegetables) make this place an old favorite. Also, the rice is heart-shaped. I mean, c'mon. That's cute. I've only been here for dinner, and I've never come for the buffet or lunch, so I can't speak to those, but it's a winner in my book for a casual, flavorful evening meal. read more
