I will definitely be coming back here! The food and the service were great. I had basil eggplant and pad see ew. The eggplant was delicious but the pork that came with it was a little dry. The pad se ew with tofu that we ordered was also great. Overall the location looked very nice too. It was clean, and also had bathrooms too which was a plus. Thai Thyme was a fantastic experience for my party of six. Every single one of us enjoyed our dishes. Five of us drove out to Monrovia from Orange County, and the experience was well worth it. The restaurant is casual yet elegant. The space is well-decorated, and the menus are encased in thick black leather. The menu is extensive and can be a bit overwhelming for a first-timer, but I personally loved the variety. I've been to many Thai restaurants, and this one, by far, has had the most choices. In addition, each menu item provides detailed information about the ingredients. We started off our dinner with Thai tea, fried wontons, and Thai potstickers. The Thai tea was served in a tall mug with a creamy layer on top that made it look delicious even before I took a sip. It had a smooth taste, neither too sweet nor too strong with the usual Thai tea flavoring. The egg rolls and potstickers were crispy and savory, not greasy. I wanted more, but I had to hold back to save room for dinner. Dinner arrived in a timely manner for everyone; no one had to wait long to be served or to get started. The setup was elegant, with cloth tablecloths, napkins, and quality silverware. We ordered red curry with chicken, a rice dish topped with crab cakes, pad see ew, chicken satay, and a few other dishes I can't recall. But every single thing we tried (we shared all our dishes) was absolutely delicious! The group could not stop raving about the food. We tried not to stuff ourselves because we wanted to save room for the interesting desserts we had read about on the menu. Before we finished our entrées, the owner of the restaurant came over to our table to introduce himself and share his personal story about how he came to open the restaurant. This was another highlight of our visit to Thai Thyme. After our fun chat, the owner treated the entire group to a creamy coconut dessert, and our birthday girl received a slice of coconut cake. The desserts were also a hit! They were decadent without being overly sweet, unlike many American desserts. They satisfied our craving for something sweet and unique at the end of the meal. I forgot to take pictures of my food because I was too excited to each and distracted by my friends, but you can see many photos on their website. Thai Thyme is my favorite Thai restaurant in LA!! I've come back so many times. The owner is nice and usually stops by every table to say hi and thank people for coming. He also mentioned how the food is cooked to be healthier, and I can tell from eating it. Usually when I have pad thai from other places, the noodles are very oily. The pad Thai from Thai Thyme is so fresh and doesn't taste oily or make me feel heavy after eating it! The chicken satay skeweres were my favorite. The sauce is peanuty, rich and delicious with vinegar cucumbers to cleanse between each bite. I also loved the eggplant salad for some more vegetables and it was light and refreshing. read more

We have been here a couple of times and it was great (for 2 people). On our 3rd time, we're a large group (7 peeps), so automatically they charged us "tip" on our bill, thank goodness my sister checked our bill as another "tip" was added. Service: They did what they needed and were pretty amicable. Nothing to complain about. Ambiance: Very casual and a simple place to eat at. I wish it was a little brighter since it felt a little dark inside despite it being daytime/mid-day. We sat by the window so it felt lighter but since it was cloudy, there still wasn't a lot of light. Food: I feel like the quality is great but this Thai place heavily leans on making all of their dishes on the sweeter side. When it comes to Thai restaurants, you'll sometimes come across these places. I am a fan of a little sweetness but not in every dish. Chicken Satay - My mom said the skewers itself were okay but a little dry. She prefers chicken with some fat though so I give it a pass. The peanut sauce was incredibly sweet. I can just barely tell it's a peanut sauce. Crab Rangoons - I believe these weren't sweet? Just creamy. My mom said they're good but too creamy for her. I told her she wouldn't like them but she insisted on them anyway. At least these were a good pass regardless! Garlic green beans - Sweet. I was hoping these weren't going to be sweet at all after I tasted the other dishes I was able to eat. There's not much garlic taste to it and I just didn't like that it's unnecessarily sweet. The natural green bean flavor itself barely saved the dish. Vegetarian Thai fried rice - Sweet but not as sweet as the other dishes. The fragrance of the eggs helped the dish here. The plethora of veggies in the rice were really nice though! Since these weren't too bad, a drizzle of extra soy sauce over the top would probably help it just fine. Vegetarian Curry Puffs - At first bite, the curry taste was nice! There's a light kick to it and then...it's still just sweet. I do like the noodles in these puffs and they were perfectly crispy! I don't know if I'd come here again on my own but my mom, surprisingly, liked the place okay so I may give it another try with her. I didn't notice until the end of my meal but they do have a few vegan meat options along with the usual tofu option! I appreciate the options here but still make sure to ask about fish sauce or other things in certain dishes, just in case. I generally try and pick dishes I know would be safe. I'd say my rating leans more on the 3.5 than just a solid 3 because it isn't a bad place and perhaps the sweeter taste works out better in favor of people who want to get used to the tastes of Thai dishes! Last night, I stood at the front of the restaurant for 6-7 minutes. There were tons of waitstaff around helping customers but not a single person looked up at me and acknowledged my presence. I get that they were busy, but someone could have made eye contact and let me know they would be right with me as soon as they finished their task. After waiting, I approached the owner who was clearing a table to see if anyone was seating new customers. He told me, without looking up, that that it was his job and I needed to wait by the door. No hello. No smile. No "thanks for visiting, I'll be with you soon". Needless to say, I have no desire to spend money somewhere I'm not wanted so I took my business elsewhere. Friends and I couldn't decide where to eat so we took a walk through downtown and found Thai thyme and I am so grateful we did! The restaurant is beautiful on the inside, decorations are simple yet elegant, I love the giant mirrors they have. Service is amazing, the two ladies helping us were very attentive and kind they did everything very well and food was out quickly! The food itself... WOW it was absolutely delectable. I got the pad woon sen (glass noodles) with pork and I was seriously in food heaven, the noodles are packed with flavor like to the max, it had the most rich savory sauce, they are just amazing! My friends spicy basil friend rice was also so good, the rice was cooked to perfection and so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The Tom yum noodles also left me speechless though, I'm sure they marinate all their noodles for hours or something because they are the perfect taste. The dumplings too, were flawless and they came with the perfect sweet chili sauce to compliment it. I can't believe I just had such a great TAKEOUT experience it's motivating me to write a review. From the phone call I had placing my order, sounded like I was talking to a radio show host, so pleasant, charming and helpful. They allow you to choose whether you want dark meat or white meat chicken in your dishes which immediately let me know the food is going to be . This is our go-to local spot when we're craving some yummy Thai food. Their curries are fantastic, crab rangoons are lovely, and chicken satay and salads are delicious. We usually order to-go but have eaten in a few times and the vibe is casual and relaxed right in the heart of Old Town Monrovia and staff are all friendly. We've tried their green, yellow, and red curries all with various types of meat. The yellow is my fave - it's made with coconut milk, potatoes, carrots, onions and I like to get it mild with beef. Mild has the tiniest bit of spice to it, just perfect and their beef is soft - so delicious! My hubby loved their green curry and gets it with either pork or chicken, mild. It's also made with coconut milk, but has lots of veggies like bamboo shoots, eggplant, green beans, bell pepper and basil. Mild version has a bit more kick than the yellow - very nice. They use quality pork and chicken- all excellent. We've never had a bad curry here! Their crab rangoons are plump little pockets of heaven - very generously filled. Could use a tad more crab meat but that's just me - still the best I've had in SoCal. Their chicken satay is always nicely cooked with quality meat and I love their peanut sauce. Rice isn't included with their curries so we always order a side of jasmine rice. It's always prepared perfectly with lots of jasmine flavor - goes so well with their curries. Their prices are decent for the area - but they're a tad marked up when ordering via Uber eats so you can save money by going in. Food and service are good and I recommend this place, but, in two separate occasions when I met friends there for lunch and when we were ready to order their Lunch Specials, we were told that the owner said they are not serving Lunch Specials that day. Unbelievable!!! We've all never heard of such a thing and were all pretty dumb founded to be honest. If the owner doesn't want to serve the specials that day, he/she needs to tell the servers to let the customers know when they pass out the menus. I feel this is a very poor business practice and he/she should just take out the "Lunch Specials" page if and when he/she doesn't "feel" up to serving them. read more

That was very flavorful 5/5. The fried rice was good but nothing special 3.5/5. The appetizers were pricey for the portions so we skipped out on those. We were a party of 7 and got an automatic 18% tip added (says 6+ charge). They have 2 restrooms (1 men, 1 women). Ventured out with my daughter a couple Fridays ago. Let's try a new restaurant we thought. Couldn't have made a better decision. Thai Thyme was amazing. The red curry was very flavorful and spice level 2 was just right. The spicy fried rice was a great addition and the green papaya salad was quite tasty and offered a palate refresh. We had one minor issue that was promptly resolved my the owner Thai. What a gem of an owner and so passionate about the food. We realized that after being convinced to try the mango and coconut puddings. Fantastic on their own, and interesting mixed together, both desserts were vegan, sugar and gluten free. I ordered the regular chicken curry, but when I got home, I realized they charged me extra and changed it to chicken breast instead. The chicken was very dry and not tasty at all! My wife and I just happened to be in Old Town Monrovia recently and we stopped by Thai Thyme for lunch. The restaurant is cozy and the wait staff was very nice and service was quick. We started with the Spring Rolls. To be honest, they weren't on my fav list. The outside was crispy but wasn't impressed by the filling. Maybe 3 stars here. Next came the main items. For me, it was the Yellow Curry with chicken. It was a large portion and I still can't believe I ate the whole thing. It was delicious and a different kind of yellow curry than I was used to having at our local Thai places. For example, a lot more onion (perfectly cooked). Really liked this dish. 5 stars here for sure. My wife had the Pad Pak with tofu. She really liked it as well. This is our absolute favorite Thai spot. And we love Thai food, and have even had it in Thailand. We come almost every week. We've tried most things on the menu, and look forward to the rest! The vegan options are amazing, too. The owner and chef greets everyone when he's there, and is so accomplished in different fields. We're lucky that he chose to have a restaurant where we get to eat his food. His wife is the pastry chef and my mom loves the desserts best of all. Then this manager, literally started going to tables and asking folks "how was the food", welcoming different ethnicities that had just walked in. But noticed, we've hadn't been asked anything.
