None of the items have clearly marked prices, and at the register they just charge whatever they say. The food pricing and options here are good, BUT I witnessed a severe food safety violation that ruined my appetite. While waiting for my order, I watched an older employee actively eating fruit behind the counter, spitting pits into her bare hand, and then using that exact same ungloved hand to grab different tofu flavors that I ordered and place them into my containers. The younger employee had gloves on, but she unfortunately wasn't the one helping me. Bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food after handling saliva is a major health code violation. I tried a piece of tofu, but I was so deeply uncomfortable and grossed out that I couldn't even taste it. I can't believe I've been coming to Thanh Son Tofu for years and never left a review. It's one of those places that quietly becomes part of your life -- dependable, comforting, and somehow always exactly what you're craving. The tofu is incredibly fresh -- soft but structured, flavorful without being overpowering. You can taste the difference immediately. It doesn't feel mass-produced or rushed and feels like your momma just made it if you momma makes tofu. My relationship with this place has been an ebb and flow over the years. I'll try other restaurants once or twice, and eventually I get tired of them. But Thanh Son? I always gravitate back. It's a staple that no other restaurant has been able to replicate for me. My absolute favorite is the tofu stuffed with black fungus, vermicelli, and green onion. The filling has the perfect texture -- slightly chewy from the fungus, soft from the vermicelli, and fragrant from the green onion. It's simple but deeply satisfying. They sell the tofu loose, either by weight or by price. I usually just ask for $5 worth, and somehow it perfectly fills a large to-go container (I'm not sure what that weighs out to, but it's generous). It's affordable, filling, and always hits the spot. More of a 3 1/2 stars I absolutely love their onion fried tofu and fried banana. Those I would rate 10/10. A small box of tofu is $3. You know it's a local favorite when there's always a line. The only reason this wouldn't be a 4/5 stars is the service. If you're not vietnamese, you most likely won't know what any of the food behind the glass is. The workers are kinda rude so it's uncomfortable asking for anything and it just makes a hostile environment for all the customers.. I was behind a lady who said she wanted 2 of the fried banana and the worker behind the glass was screaming how many?!? like 3 times... After watching a YouTuber going to this place, I wanted to go myself and check out this place too! I finally did and wow they're sooo good!! I waited in line for a bit but it's totally worth the wait. I got green onion tofu, mushroom tofu and also a pork bun. Pork bun was good but not that amazed, both of the tofu were very tasty, especially the green onion ones! They are thin but delicious!! Mushroom ones you can really taste the beans but pretty plain so I ate them with grated radish and some tamari sauce and they were good. Stopped by this unassuming Vietnamese take out place not knowing what to expect. It seems like the focus of the shop is mainly vegetarian/tofu, but I did see a few shrimp products in there. This is a take out place that offers a variety of appetizers, desserts, fried items and soy milk drinks (Thai milktea, matcha and pandan milk tea, etc). The women working there were friendly, but spoke very limited English, so I found it quite difficult to navigate this store. They have a lot of fried tofu and other fried products where they sell by weight and by piece. There are no prices, so it was kind of difficult to figure out what each item was and costs. In the end, I ordered a few random things that looked interesting: -Pandan soy milk 5/5 - this was so good and the pandan flavor was really strong -pandan sponge cake 4/5 - really tasty and love the spongey texture, also nice pandan flavor - fried tofu 2/5 - in the display case, too oily for my taste and inside was more air than tofu - mung bean rice ball 5/5 - not sure what else was in there but found it really tasty - fried spring rolls 1/5 - horrible, greasy and I don't even know if there was anything inside the spring roll lol While some items were hit or miss, it was a fun experience being able to try these unique items I've never seen before. [Parking]: The parking lot is small, but there are usually one or two spots available for immediate parking. [Soy milk]: This shop offers both sweetened and unsweetened soy milk in either hot/ambient temperature on the counter next to the refrigerator or cold inside the refrigerators. Most customers grab the soy milk off the counter as they are freshly made on the same day. However, there are days when 1/2-gallon jugs don't have any labels distinguishing sweetened from unsweetened AND unsweetened soy milk may not always be available even as early as 9 AM. I learned that the way to tell them apart is by the cap color as red cap = unsweetened and green cap = sweetened. In addition, do not trust the nutritional table stating "less than 1 gram of sugar" for jugs with a red cap. I was misled and discovered how sweet the soy milk with a red cap was after the first sip. Their soy milk contains no pandan and each 1/2-gallon jug is $3. [Other items]: I tried the cha ca (fishcake) tofu for $2 each (available at the cashier counter) and It was served cold, but it had a good savory flavor. Other options include durian, spring rolls with various fillings (pork, shrimp, fish, or veggie), matcha Thai tea, sticky rice buns (with or without pork leaf), banh cuon (Vietnamese rice rolls), etc. However, they don't always label the spring rolls which can confuse first-time visitors trying to figure out different fillings. Review # 18 for 2025 My go-to spot for soy milk and tofu, and pork rice rolls! This is located at a tiny strip mall with pretty limited parking. Depending on what time you go, there may not be any parking available. However, it is a grab and go place, so people come and go frequently. The store itself is pretty small, nothing fancy. It can get pretty crowded inside during busy times of the day and on the weekends. I LOVE soy milk but I only like the Asian soy milks. The American ones taste like cardboard and chalk... I just can't, even with the flavored ones. The soy milk here is freshly made and very affordable!! They have hot ones that come out on a rolling basis. They also have cold ones in the fridge and are sweetened and unsweetened, also flavored with pandan. I love the pandan soy milk but I notice they do not last as long. But all these items are fresh made without all the preservatives so they do not have a long shelf life to begin with. I also like that they sell the small size bottles too. I love buying those to have some smaller portions that I can take on the go later. They also sell Thai Tea here ($12) and pandan mung bean drink ($25). All the drinks are sold in half gallon size with the exception of the small bottles of soy milk. I cannot remember how much the soy milk is, but it is very affordable compared to the stores and some other tofu stores. I also love the fried bananas here and the fried tofu. I really enjoy the fried tofu with the earwood mushroom and noodles. I also always buy the pork rice rolls and fried pork patty roll when available. Those things tend to sell out later in the day so you have to go earlier in the day if you want to be able to buy the pork rice rolls. They're also sold by the pound. They take both cash and card making it very convenient. I've never had any problems here with service. Would I come back here? Of course I would!! This is my to-go spot for soy milk, tofu, and rice rolls. I come here whenever I get the chance as it not exactly close to my home. This place has been around for decades and I knew and been there since it opens back in the days. They started out with a small section of the strip, then over the decades it elevated to 1/3 of the strip. It's a family run and you will run into one of the owner (or the mother) throughout the day. She can be nice or just completely ignored you, but that is whom she is so don't be offended. The place is for tofu lovers and it has over a dozen different types. Also with tofu drinks, the VNese styles that is. They do have desserts and snacks and fresh fruits and so forth. I came here for the fried tofu (small or mushroom or salted), and/or the tofu drinks. They're consistently in taste and size. Yes the prices did go up but you only have 3 choices and this is the closest and I got used to the tastes from beginning so hard to let it go. If you got the other ladies to help you if the orders then you're in good hand, they're nice and friendly but if you got the owner, it's more of 50/50 so...the place is organized and cleaned. Was introduced to this place about 2 years ago by a friend and I absolutely LOVE this place and have been coming regularly since. Favorite item is the savory deep fried tofu with mushrooms, but now that I'm trying to step up my healthier eating even more, the only negative about this item is it's DEEP fried. Today, I literally took a napkin to them and removed some of the oil before warming them up in the toaster oven. Still delicious, but I need to figure out a better alternative to remove the oil. The prices are EXTREMELY reasonable and you can literally get a "to-go" container full of this tofu for $5. In fact, that's how I order it. "$5 worth please" which ends up to be about ~20 pieces or more... You could literally look around here for days, but you better get in line, cuz there's always a line. Parking is also challenging, but weekdays are a LOT better. They have seasonal exotic fruit, jellies, nuts, desserts (mostly all Vietnamese), specialty drink/desserts, boiled peanuts, peanut candy and even balut! Another specialty is the tofu pudding. This is so fresh, it's usually still warm. They make it in huge pots and dish it up per request. There are two flavors, plain ($5.50) and Pandan ($6.50). One (approximately) quart sized container comes with Ginger syrup AND Coconut pudding which you put on your tofu for added flavor. It's a dollar or two more, but it's worth it. They also sell Banh Cuon here (with meat inside). During this past Friendsgiving season, I wanted to order some vegan friendly spring rolls for myself and friends. Thanh Son Tofu was recommended by a party goer and it was the perfect little deli for some amazing rolls. Take note - they speak mostly Vietnamese and it may be difficult to try and get your point across on the phone (and even in-person) if you're using English, though it's not impossible, of course. Luckily my partner speaks some Vietnamese and was able to help me place an order the day-of for some all-veggie spring rolls. Each roll was $1.50 each and they were 'jumbo size' for a lack of better word. The crispy tofu, fried onion, and tofu skin egg rolls were fantastic. Our catering tray was well crafted with different rolls separated in order to keep them from sticking to each other. As a side, we also ordered 1/2 lb of their Stir-Fried Lemongrass Tofu ($2.50) along with some Fried Taro Fritters and Fried Spring Rolls. The tofu was extremely tasty and you could taste every bit of lemongrass used in the dish. We washed it down with a Pandan Soymilk which was super refreshing.
