Came here for a business lunch. Was enticed by the lobster roll. Upon entering the place is very cute and eclectic like an old greasy spoon. But our party felt very unwelcome and very rushed. When we all arrived we needed a few minutes to look at the menu, the server returned three times in five minutes and the last time she returned she asked "can I answer any questions to get this going"? I ordered a Caesar salad and when I said no croutons the waitress explain that they don't offer croutons because the chef can't be trusted and will eat them all. That is kind of comical but it's not typically something you want to say to your guests . I guess if you're not a foodie the food was OK. A couple of my coworkers ended up ordering a lobster roll which was definitely not even close what we expected. I actually left and went to another establishment to have lunch. I won't be back. FINALLY ventured out to try this local gem. Ordered the nightly special crab cakes with wasabi Cole slaw and uhhhhh... whoa amazing! I have been following this restaurant on social media and the reviews were great, but I am a tough critic, and I am usually disappointed by food others say is so good... well, this is not the case here. My husband and I shared the dish and we were both blown away!! Somebody knows how to cook and knows what they are doing!! The flavors of the spicy (mild to me) coleslaw soooo complimented the very chunky crab cakes which were perfection to the palate. Seriously! The food was "ok" - I was challenged to find something interesting on the menu. I settled for the gumbo and found a long black hair on the side of the serving plate (not in the bowl). I didn't notice it until nearly the end, and I have blonde hair - so yuck. Then I noticed all of the staff had long black hair. It's a weird vibe - an oddly-large place, strange 90s-era decorations (for a diner), lots of paintings (for sale), and a TV in the corner or something. No background audio, just silence. Not memorable in the least. Sort of like a senior citizens' community center. The wait staff wasn't what I would label "friendly," and prices were pretty high. It would have been entirely reasonable if it were fine dining, but the experience was very forgettable. Like another comment, I was thinking of the lobster role, but I had just been to Baltimore, and what was on someone else's table didn't look like a lobster role, so I passed on that. Delightful surprise! Already planning to return! Super clean inside and out. So clean it looks new. Friendly greetings upon entering. Server super sweet and friendly, attentive, answered many questions and brought everything promptly. Made suggestions and offered customized orders. Crème fraiche Croque Monsieur was a hit. Salads also a hit. Hamburger with beer cheese sauce on brioche bun was delicious! Thankfully the server suggested the light version which has only one 6oz patty instead of two. I have no idea how this place has anything but a 5 star review. We googled "seafood near me" and it popped up, we immediately saw the lobster sandwich and knew it's where we wanted to go. We both ordered the Lobster sandwich. My husband got fries with his and I got a salad. They were so so good! The sandwich came with a couple chips made in house that were also delicious so we ordered a side of those as well. The customer service was excellent, the food was excellent and it was enjoyable being there. Was it a little pricey? Yes but it's a mom and pop shop.... We will definitely be back! read more

Like, there is literally stuff hanging up everywhere saying that they are grumpy and other things like that, and the staff is not friendly at all - like it's not just a joke, they really are grumpy. I ordered a Citizens Arrest Burger with provolone cheese, grilled onions and pastrami. I have had many burgers in my life from lots of establishments in multiple states and I felt the need to tell you my thoughts. This Burgah as they say it, was by far the best one I have ever had. I wish they had counter service - where customers order up front and take a number to have food delivered to the table or go up to the counter and pick it up. This place is amazing! We had the jalapeño/blue cheese burger and the chicken sandwich. Both were amazing including the homemade onion rings. A few things to note: 1. The beer/wine service is a separate business and they are currently not serving alcohol until 2 pm, so if you are coming for lunch, no alcohol before 2. 2. I have been complaining about the sizes of the burgers in this town for YEARS! I love that they have a 6 oz burger, with a double patty option if you want it. I am so over half pound burgers and restaurants that will not modify to make them smaller. I love a good burger, but don't have the appetite to go into cardiac arrest before I turn 40. ThANK YOU for the 6 oz burger!!!! The bun was also on point! I love a brioche bun Finally, the service was fantastic and all the specials they had today sounded amazing. We liked the verity that the menu offered upon looking into from the Yelp app. We definitely use this app for opinions and looking at the menu ahead. It wasn't busy at the time we arrived and it seemed to take awhile before our food arrived to our table and not all of our tables order came at the same time. I ordered a hamburger it tasted good but not hot, I felt it could have been hotter and seasoned more but it was a juicy burger. Besides that everyone enjoyed there food. Clam chowder that was abundant with clams, hot crispy fries, chicken tenders, pastrami sandwiches. I would recommend this restaurant and would return when in the area. read more

Im giving this place the higher of the 2 ratings I was considering. I think it's more of a 3.5 but didnt want to grade it on the lower side. Me and my wife both got a double burger. The burger was pretty good, but it had a beer cheese on it that wasn't the greatest. It was really strong. I got onion rings on the side, and they were really good for onion rings. The theme of the place was kind of weird. It says best food out side of the prison walls, so kind of implies a prison theme, and the food has prison related names, but the inside decor does not match anything prison related at all. The lady that seated us and brought us drinks was nice, but the older lady that took our order started out nice, but then it was like a switch was flipped and she was really rude. Then when we were all done eating she came back by and was really nice again, and was even giving up recipes of some of the menu items that they make in house. The place was good, and other people seem to really like it, but it was just kind of an odd experience for me. read more

I came here on Sunday with my parents to finally try this place! I was so excited to finally eat here as their menu items and their names, were quite intriguing. Who doesn't love a prison themed menu?? I sure do! A great marketing tactic indeed considering how close it is to Folsom Prison. I had the pleasure of meeting the co-owner who was serving us as we were the first customers of the day. My mom informed me that they grow their own tomatoes which is a major plus in my book, I love anything farm-to-fork/garden-to-fork/whatever you want to call it. We started off with their "Shaw-Shanks" and "Dawg Bites", I loved both items but I noticed they used a wasabi mayo for the dawg bites which I thought was a very creative and tasty idea. The Shaw-shanks were great as well but I'd have to pick the dawg bites as my favorite starter I tried. For my entree I got their famous lobster roll, also cleverly named as "The Last Meal". And LET ME TELL YOU! This blew my expectations out of the water, it was amazing. So buttery and so fresh! The lobster portions were well worth the $24 price. That brioche bun really sealed the deal for me, and it was beautifully paired with a watermelon cucumber salad. Overall it was a very fresh and tasty experience. The ambiance here is very lowkey and artsy, something I feel is hard to find and I really enjoyed everything about this place. read more

I was honestly very surprised at how good the food was. This place punches way above its weight class. It appears as a greasy spoon complete with Rosannesque servers (who btw were wonderful), but the menu was creative and the ingredients top notch. We had the burger special which was a combination of bison, beef, elk and venison. It was excellent as was the salad and fish and chips. My kid loved the ambiance. Disappointed. Two of us came in and ordered the same burger. We asked for medium and were told they're only cooked that way. When burgers arrived they were cooked beyond well, chared on the outside and zero pink as described. Only one woman was serving customers and she seemed very overwhelmed while trying to serve multiple tables and remain focused on 2 regulars sitting at the counter. I really wanted to try their clam chowder so I ordered a cup and never received it. The Felony fries are nothing special, just fries but the oil tasted like it needed to be changed. We were never asked if we wanted refills and weren't checked on once until after a women came in and sat at the next table over. At that point our drinks were empty and subpar food was cold or gone. This place has a prison theme and the decor, food and 3 small figures each hung by a noose show that. Some items sound good on the menu and we also wanted to hear about desserts but after the lack of service and hour + wait for mediocre burgahs, we decided to go elsewhere. It was 50 minutes after ordering we received a bowl of fries and the burgahs came out several minutes later. Then no follow up. Only 2 dishes went out after we arrived and the 2 cooks in the kitchen had plenty of time to goof around as we can see from the dining area. The best part of my experience is that although she forgot my clam chowder, atleast she remembered to leave off the bill. The only reason for the second star is because many 1 star reviews get filtered out and aren't visible. This place really lacked ANYTHING memorable that was positive.
