This was my third time giving this establishment a chance, and unfortunately, it will be my last. The first time, I was seated and then completely ignored. It wasn't busy, and there were available waitstaff who never acknowledged me. After sitting there for 15 minutes without anyone coming over, I finally walked out. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and came back a second time, thinking perhaps they had simply been understaffed. The service was very slow, although the food was good. This morning, after visiting the farmers market, we stopped by again. This is a café inside a bookstore within a shopping center, so I was surprised by how restrictive the experience was. We had brought The Melt for my 11-year-old daughter because she is a very picky eater. We were holding the bag when we were seated, and I did not see any signs indicating that outside food was prohibited. If that was the policy, I would have expected someone to tell us before seating us. Instead, we waited another 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. After taking our order and collecting the menus, the waitress addressed my daughter directly--not the parents--and told her that she couldn't eat her food inside and would need to go eat it outside on the far patio. I asked if we could simply be served outside, at which point she said she would "make an exception" and let us stay. I have no problem following a restaurant's rules, but the way this was handled was extremely disappointing. If outside food is not allowed, customers should be informed when they arrive or before they are seated--not after they have already waited 15 minutes. More importantly, I found it inappropriate that the waitress addressed this issue directly with my 11-year-old and told her she would need to eat outside, rather than speaking to the parents. The implication that my child should go eat her meal by herself away from us was particularly upsetting. At this point, it wasn't really about the food or even the outside-food policy. It was the repeated pattern of poor service, lack of communication, and the way this situation was handled. We ultimately decided to leave, despite the offer to make an exception. After three attempts, I can't justify giving this establishment my business again. The food may be good, but good food isn't enough when the service and customer experience are consistently this disappointing. read more

I never knew Barnes & Noble had such great food! I didn't even know they served food, let alone: breakfast lunch, and dinner. The service was outstanding and the ambience was so great that I am definitely taking my husband back there. This definitely exceeded my expectations. I found the entire cafe charming! But beware, after 11:30 on a Saturday, it can get really crowded and a line will form for brunch. The staff are fairly attentive but there were only two for the multiple tables that were there. The place is giving 90s wood cafe, very much like a Peet's coffee vibe. The food was excellent! We tried the chile relleno casserole which was super flavorful and came with a side of rice and beans. The lemon ricotta pancakes were really good, didn't taste much like lemon or ricotta but was a great pancake nevertheless. The Reuben sandwich and sweet potato fries were really great. Extremely great ingredients and textures. There was also a decent kids menu and crayons and coloring sheets for kids. We were also able to order drinks from the Starbucks cafe. Stopped in for brunch and book shopping and was not disappointed. Menu prices are a little on the higher side but I think it was worth it for the portion sizes, taste, and ambiance. I'll be honest, this was not worth the hype. I had just got married and my husband and I were on a road trip up the coast. We had been in Santa Rosa and had seen a video talking about the only B&N kitchen in California. B&N is our favorite store and we're both foodies so we thought why not add the extra 3 and a half hours to our trip. For starters, everything took forever. We were seated almost instantly but the drinks, the apps, and the food took a while. We were running out of time since we got there around 6:45 and they closed at 8pm and spoiler alert - we didn't get to browse the book selections cause by the time we were done we only had 10 minutes to spare and frantically looked around only to purchase nothing since there wasn't time. Anyways - we got the boneless wings with Korean bbq sauce and that was pretty much the best thing we had. I got a bbq chicken sandwich and the meat was so dry it was pretty much unenjoyable and the potatoes it came with were super soggy. My husband got the feta and spinach turkey burger and he hated it. There was a weird flavoring to it. Overall, I'm glad we went for the experience and to say we've been but if I were ever in the area again I would sadly not be back. read more

While on a trip to Folsom, I was intrigued an IG reel about this B&N having the only kitchen setup. It was a beautiful cafe-style set-up behind the Starbucks, with as much slightly more seating than the average B&N Starbucks. We were seating relatively quickly. The menu looked like a simple coffee shop menu of sandwiches, salads, and pastas. But the prices were quite on the high side, as if it were a high-end cafe. We took our shot on a chopped veggie ($17) and a tomato soup and grilled cheese ($16). Unfortunately, the only memorable parts of the meal was the a waitress that we seemed to be inconveniencing by being there, as well as the thirty minute wait it took to get the food. While I should give forgiveness for coming on New Year's Day, it is hard to rationalize how we had to shout down staff member to order when there were three dining staff and multiple empty tables. The food did not match the price of the items, but I will respect the salad for the diversity of veggies provided. The Barnes and Noble space was really nice with tons of activity. But I don't see a reality where I can recommend hitting the B&N Kitchen with so many other great and reasonably priced options within the shopping center. read more

Very unpleasant experience, went on a date and got some drinks at a very empty time. My boyfriend went to sit at a table while I got the drinks. Despite ordering and paying for food and drinks my boyfriend was told to not sit at the tables because we didn't order directly from the kitchen even though we still bought food and drinks from the cafe. Waited awhile to get seated because the hostess was no where in sight. Someone who worked at the Starbucks booth came over to seat us. When the waitress came my friend asked for recommendations and she seemed like she didn't really want to give one and she also never came to refill our waters. I ended up ordering the burger which was really good actually. Due to the slight unfriendliness and lack of water I didn't leave a tip but to my surprise the waitress must of decided to tip herself on my card because when I checked my bank account I was charged $6 more than what I paid and the bill only came out to $17.24 because we split it.... Best kept secret around! We've eaten here at least 2 dozen times and love it! In the winter, before a movie at Palladio, we will stop in for tomato soup and cheese sandwich! Love the tabbouleh with salmon and good burgers, as well. Highly recommend the B&N cafe!!! You can't go wrong with any dish sh you order. Next time I'm gonna try the Reuben with the crispy potatoes. Met a friend here for brunch on Saturday at 11am. It is located in the upscale Palladio shopping center. Very limited street parking but then discovered a parking garage just across from here. I chose this place because I wanted a quiet atmosphere for us to catch up on the last 5 years and not feel like we were taking up space. We walk in to Barnes and Noble and the kitchen is on the right near the check out counter. There is a sign that says wait to be seated. We were seated within five minutes. The kitchen section is small (seats maybe 40?) so there could be a wait if it is busy. The menu has some breakfast items, salads, and sandwiches. She got the BLT and I ordered an omelette. Their standard side is "crispy potatoes". I was curious about these and was pleasantly surprised. They truly are crispy but not hard. They were fresh and not reheated frozen. Service was friendly but not attentive. We had to hunt her down to get drink refills and our ticket. I did appreciate that even though we were there for nearly three hours, we were not pressured to leave. Food was good but not memorable. Its a good place for a quiet quick bite. Barnes & Noble Kitchen is one of my absolute favorite spots in Folsom. It serves many different great purposes! I love grabbing a coffee and doing a little work in their coworking area from time to time, the vibes are relaxing and motivating. Their kitchen is also fantastic. The bruschetta, although a seemingly simple dish, is so incredibly fresh and I have to get it everytime I go. The service is always great, everyone is very friendly and helpful! Sometimes it takes a moment to be sat but I love practicing my patience so it's not a big deal at all. Of course the bookstore element is also great, I love browsing before and after my meal, and sometimes a little more than browsing! I've heard great things about their brunch so that's absolutely my next try. Overall, an absolute must try! read more

Lunch should not cost you $50. Service was ok. Order taken and delivered. Very little interaction beyond that. The brick cooked chicken had slightly dry small pieces of chicken and a lot of mashed potatoes. It comes with a tarragon sauce but very little of it and I noticed the menu lists extra sauce for a fee. It needed a lot more sauce to even feel you're tasting any sauce. The special was a tri tip sandwich with tomatoes and peppers. The sandwich had very little meat--more of a tomato and pepper sandwich. So, the food was not worth the cost read more

Lately we have been into the burgers, my husband favors the Western burger, with sauce on the side, and I have been loving their special, a spinach feta turkey burger. That normally comes with fries which are great, but I'm trying to eat healthy lately so I get a side of Tabbouleh. So fresh and yummy!! Service is always great and we almost never have to wait. My only complaint is that it's time to refresh some of the seating. The wicker chairs are so uncomfortable and the benches are getting a little too lumpy. read more

Visited here twice, can say for certain that this was the best french dip I've ever had flavor wise. However, my husband found his breakfast to be lackluster. The eggs were passable but the potatoes were too overdone; maybe a minute and a half less, they'd be perfect. The mushroom risotto is amazing. The service is what ticks me down. It's very obvious they play nice for those they don't recognize, and once you visit a couple of times that compassion seems to fade. On our first visit our waitress was kind, attentive, and super understanding that my hudband and I were pretty low-maitenece customers. I enjoyed the food so much that I decided to come with him at a later date so I could try to get my work done. When asking if we could get a bigger table (mind there were maybe two tables occupied at the time, no line, and it was at a relatively slow time of service), I was instantly shut down. The entire time during we were there, there were maybe two tables (each was a party of two) that came to eat. I would understand if it were a busy time of the day to deny the request, or if it was going to be relatively crowded later. But the fact I could have gone to Olive Garden and gotten this request filled, but not here? It says something about the customer focus in this establishment. Again, only comparing this service issue because this is supposed to be one of five B&N kitchen locations in the world/country. The fact a chain establishment has better customer service really gets my gears turning. Will have to debate if the food is worth the return, given I was always satisfied with my meals but my husband was always left wanting something more. Probably a more ideal experience if dining alone. read more

This is not a bad choice for a quick brunch and wine flight. $15 for a wine flight (wines were delish) and Panna cotta pancakes with strawberry & berries for $15 (was just ok) and you get to sit outside chill and people watch. This place is very hit and miss. I will say their crunchy potatoes are amazing! However, I ordered an avocado toast with scrambled eggs without micro greens and side of potatoes. The eggs were cold and the avocado was drenched in lemon juice (which wasn't specified on the menu). Had it been on the menu, I would have asked to not have lemon juice. It was very unenjoyable and the service is a bit hit and miss as well. Sometimes they are attentive and sometimes it is very slow. Mostly seems due to staffing. Everyone is nice but the food is so inconsistent. My friend ordered a salad and when it came, it was totally not as described on the menu. They need to take a look at the menu and be more specific to what it is because we both were unhappy. read more

My girlfriends told me about this cute restaurant at Barns, called "Barns & Noble Kitchen", and they said the food and service was delicious... they ain't lying This place is fire. I took my husband out for a date night, gettin some dinner and movie action at the Palladio, and we had to stop by and try this place. As soon as we walked in, we got greeted, sat, orders taken and our food came out in minutes. WTF. The service here is on point. I can't remember our servers name, but she was so kind and funny. lol, She had the funniest come backs for my husband's most ridiculous jokes. Oh... and the food tasted like tears from an angel. We arrived at opening for ladies brunch. The ambiance was warm and the chairs surprisingly comfortable. We all enjoyed our food and we happy to see vegetarian options. The portobello mushroom sandwich was excellent and we all loved the crispy potatoes. Our server Brandy was on point and took exceptional care of us, she was very knowledgeable about the ingredients in the food and beverages and suggested modifications for dietary needs. She may have been the only server working the restaurant, i didn't notice anyone else and she was moving efficiently and effectively. Had to do a double take the first time I saw this pop up on Yelp. While it might seem a bit left field this Barnes and Noble kitchen is legit! I went with the BLTA which was very fresh with nice cuts of bacon and super fresh produce also came with these super crispy potatoes that don't look it but are sooooo filling. We find this to be a delightful dining experience. First, it is somewhat unique in that it is a restaurant within a bookstore. There are only just a couple of these "Kitchens" in Barnes and Noble stores across the country. If you love bookstores, the ambience is pretty unique. The ceilings are very high and the feeling when dining is enjoyable and unrushed. The service staff are ALWAYS very nice and helpful. And, the food is really very good and quite varied. They don't have a vast menu, but they have a very wide range of options which are all VERY good. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. read more

We left without even sitting down because we were treated rudely. We had a group of ladies that met up to have coffee and maybe dinner but apparently they do not like groups. The place was empty. They wouldn't let us sit where there was plenty of room for all of us. The manager wanted us to confirm that if they shoved a few tables together in a different area that each and every one of us would order food. Service is always so kind in recommending items and walking around the store is the perfect way to digest the food. As for the food itself, I always get the Portobello Sandwich and it always surprises me how fresh it tastes. I do feel like the size of the sandwich has decreased over time, however. Finding good non-egg menu items at a brunch place is always tough but Barnes and Noble seems to do it. Regardless of what you get- the roasted potatoes are a must!
