This is probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Vail, and to be frank, the food and service sucks. The coat check and bar stared off nicely, but when we were brought to our seats that sentiment quickly changed. The tables are all long and wide, and the open space of the dining room made it quite loud. So don't expect to converse with anyone farther than a seat or so away from you. Our waiter was mediocre at best, and one of the servers managed to hit my mom in the head with the dishes he was carrying qt one point. Nice. Then, mid-way through our dinner, a weird fluorescent light turned on above us that we were told "would probably go off eventually" but actually remained on for the remainder of our dinner. No one knew what the light was for, why it turned on, or how to turn it off. So after hitting one of us in the head with plates, shining a fluorescent light on us half the night, and serving us cold oddly tasting meals, we weren't surprised to find plenty of hidden cheapskate type fees in our bill. Explain to me how you justify charging $6 to split a $40 plate of vegetables? You can't. Unless your Vail Resorts. Don't waste your money here. Goto Beanos, goto Splendido, go somewhere they care about food and fine dining more than profit. read more

Okay, first, since no one tells you this yet in the reviews -- you can go up for lunch by just getting a scenic lift ticket for $20. This will allow you to go up and down on the 2 gondolas in Vail for the whole day. You can buy this at the ticket counters on the day of or beforehand, though it must be purchased in person. If you go at dinner, you can go up for free. Next, take into account that you will be walking along the ski trail on the mountain from the lift to the location. If you're wearing shoes that aren't condusive, it's a little diffcult. Also, you'll be dodging skiers. But, it's worth it -- you will have an amazing view! Inside, you can borrow some of the cozy slippers or enjoy some of the great freshening products in the bathroom (deodarant, mouthwash, hairspray, etc.). The place is HUGE, and the menu is very diverse -- good for families and folks of all ages. It's not your typical casual cafeteria style top of the mountain location, but it is definitely a nice addition to the mix. You will have to pay me to go here next time. We had a company ski day with a paid for lunch by our GM. Very nice when you walk in. They have a place for your boots, jacket, etc. I liked that part. What severely affects my decision was the service and most of all, the food. It was towards the end of the season and you could really tell not one employee gave a crap! Servers were confused, untimely, and in general not helpful. Upon ordering we did not go crazy (cause ya know, the prices) and choose to keep it simple with salads and burgers. For $20 I was expecting something impressive; unique flavors, cool sides, whatever. Wrong. They didn't cook 1 burger to temp (I think we had 3). Well done, dry, unappealing, and flavorless. ANY restaurant could have made a better burger. Hell, my dog would have made a better burger. Needless to say I ate maybe half and filled up on domestic beers for the rest. No raving reviews from the salads either. But maybe ordering simple was where we went wrong in the first place. The fact that a place like the 10th exists on Vail mountain makes me happy and unwilling to tromp around a cafeteria in my ski gear ever again. I'd heard rumors of cozy heated boots to lounge around in while dining on delicious food and couldn't wait to give it a try. Figuring that many people had the same idea that I did, I tried to make myself a reservation for lunch. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations for a party of one (or didn't when I tried) but no worries, I was able to snag a seat at the packed bar. When you're not dining at a table, you don't get the cozy boots. I was sad for a second but couldn't stay that way while sitting in the lively bar area with an awesome view of the slopes. I wasn't going to drink...who am I kidding, there was a great selection of cocktails, wine and beer so that didn't last long. I thought about getting a cocktail but then remembered that I'd have to make it down the mountain so I settled in with a nice porter and ordered myself a kobe burger. I was actually surprised at how good the menu looked. After years of only having the choice of a hamburger or something fried for lunch on the mountain, it was so nice to see a real, actual menu. What can I say, I guess the years of limited choices had me trained, that burger was calling my name. The only thing, though, is that this burger was way better. Or maybe it was all that much better because it wasn't served to me on a tray. It's tempting to stay there all afternoon to drink and socialize with other skiers but then you remember why you came out in the first place. The 10th is conveniently located at Mid Vail which makes it a piece of cake to ski in and ski out. Next time I'll have to come back for apres ski. I'm sure it would be a blast! read more

The recent poor reviews of the service here are spot on. Something has changed, and it's not good. We used to love this place as a break from the other mountain fare, but left today and last season's visit totally disappointed, mainly with the 'lack of customer service' attitude. Our server was actually great but he was the exception, actually apologizing for "the new program" at the Tenth. All hostesses at the front checking people in do not crack a smile. They seem annoyed at actually doing their job of checking in guests. We waited in the bar for the rest of our party and when we were complete, again hostess annoyed that we were back at the desk to let them know our party was complete. Asked the server for no lettuce on my burger and then the apologies began, "we do not modify ANYTHING on our menu. I will see what I can do but can't promise anything--it's a new policy." Burger came with lettuce basically baked into the cheese so couldn't remove, and the server apologized that he "lost the fight with the kitchen". What about allergies? Well, their menu states, "we realize some guests have allergies and dietary restrictions, but we politely decline to make modifications to our menu"(!)" What?! The least gravitational disappointment was when we first checked in. You used to get slippers in the coat check when you removed your boots. Apparently slippers were removed "because of COVID" (found this out last year, but thought they might have now returned, only to be told by another rude staff member (maybe Manager?) "no slippers anymore"...no explanation, nor did he care that I asked...so much for the importance of first impressions. You're left with keeping boots on or tracking around wet carpet in your socks. I guess all of this would be more acceptable(?) if you weren't paying $40 for a chicken pot pie--with premium prices you just expect better service. But it appears the role of captive audience on a mountain top is what's provided them permission to fail their guests. We gave this place another chance after being disappointed last year, only to find it got worse. 2 stars only because the food was decent, and ourserver did his best under "the new program" at The Tenth. read more

The portions are small and it's expensive, but the food is really good and the views are great. I went to The 10th last weekend with my sister and my girlfriend. Between all of us we had the lobster bisque, the filet and the halibut. We also tried 3 of the desserts: the chocolate cake, the orange cake and the banana creme. The halibut could have been a little flakier, but otherwise it was very good. The filet was also very good. And the lobster bisque was exceptional. The three deserts were also quite good, tho not outstanding. Apart from food we had a margarita and a dark and stormy. The margarita was very good and the dark and stormy was the best I've ever tasted. We took the gondola to get to The 10th at mid mountain from Vail Village. Once at mid mountain, you can see the restaurant. We ended up just walking over in the snow. However, when we left the restaurant there was a snowcat waiting to drive us back to the gondola (very cool!). All in all it was a great mid mountain meal and a cool experience. read more

Dinner at the 10th is an experience. It feels really romantic to take the gondola up and see all the lights in Vail twinkle. It can be a cold ride up, but they give you blankets to keep warm. Favorites on the menu: - Truffle fries: sooo good. Very generous with the truffle salt and oil. Huge portion (big enough for share among four) - Wild thing mushroom pizza: our favorite pizza. Shockingly delicious - Cocktails: everything we had was excellent The entrees are excellent as well. Lamb rack, bolognese, halibut - we've enjoyed everything we've tried. Visiting the 10th is usually a once-a-season splurge for us. It is a favorite of the kids, who really enjoy the whole locker room/slippers/bathroom experience. The food can be hit or miss. On our last visit, we all ordered wood fried pizzas which were very good. Service has generally been great with attentive, polite service to the kids as well. Kids menu items come with a little veggie plate to start and a dessert, so that's a big winner as well. The downside is the frequently rude attitude at the hostess stand. Twice this season I have found myself groveling to a 20-something with an attitude, begging to be seated with plenty of empty tables in sight. One time the groveling worked and one time it didn't. Probably best to make a reservation, although I have seen many folks waiting for tables who have reservations. We've never eaten in the bar area because it is always jammed. People tend to hang out there for a good, long time as it is a nice atmosphere. Since it was an unusually stormy March day, we ducked in for lunch, and even at 1:30pm, the bar was packed, and the dining room was sold out. It was about a 30 min wait for a bar seat, so definitely make a reservation if you know you're going ahead of time. The prices are higher than a typical lunch place but not much higher than at the lodge, and it's definitely much more comfortable to be able to sit down in here and take advantage of the fully stocked bathroom (replenish sunblock, etc). Drinks: They have a full bar, beers on tap, and lots of wines - Moscow mule: good ginger flavor, classic copper cup - Palomimosa: grapefruit, tequila, and prosecco Food: - Duck confit pizza: thin crust, good flavor - Mushroom pizza: strong mushroom flavor, arugula, same thin crust - Tomato soup: a huge bowl with a crositni in the middle, slightly tart without the cream, but I prefer it this way - Cobb: a little too heavily dressed but generous on the toppings - Truffle fries: good truffle and cheese flavor, hand cut, great with beer Food came out pretty quickly, and it's just nice not to have to carry a tray around in the lodge looking for seating. read more

My initial reaction still holds and 10th has become a regular spot for me but I really find their reservations staff to be a pain in the ass - frankly. If in December I ask for a table for 8 in February and I am told that the only times available are 11:00 or 2:15 that is simply unacceptable. This review is for the lunch ski in, ski out service. It's really impressive they have such a fine dining establishment mid mountain at Vail. The best part is you can take a break and really relax during your ski day ... A real splurge worth doing at least once on your trip or for a special occasion. There are locker room and excellent bathroom facilities where you can if you choose change from ski boots into slippers! Or just freshen up. The wine, beer, and cocktail list is extensive, though don't forget about skiing after lunch or back down the mountain! Worst case you can take the gondola. Our server was excellent. The only reason I didn't give four stars is the food was just okay. It may be what I ordered, a smoked trout sandwich. The sandwich tasted good, but the focaccia bread was heavy and a bit greasy. Truffle fries were fine, but I have had better. Dessert was yummy, a peanut butter ice cream sundae with banana bread, bacon, and chocolate! Welcome to on mountain dining. Be prepared for some steep prices and mediocre service. Oh, and if you don't have a reservation, good luck. OK, so it's supposed to be fine dining and a reservation would be expected. I won't ding them for that. But if I'm going to drop $100 for lunch at Vail's newest eatery it better be darn good and the service has to match. Unfortunately neither is the case. The triple quadruple filtered water is a nice touch. It keeps me from having to order bottled water. The wine list is nice, but as I'm going to ski the rest of the day I think I'll stick to the water. The table bread was nicely done but marred by the "sea salt" butter. Skip the salt. Just give me plain old butter thank you. B-. I had the onion soup. Way too much corn starch or whatever they use as thickener. I could hardly eat it. The onions were cooked well and if the stock had been less thickened it might have been good. The crouton and brie were a nice touch and well done. I'd give it a c-. My wife had the chicken soup. This was definitely the hit of the lunch. A+ for flavor and consistency and the amount of vegetables. A real winner. If this were all we had for lunch I'd give the place an A. I had the french dip. It was good, the accompanying sauce and dip were also good, but the whole thing was warm as if it had sat under a heat lamp too long. Also, the portions were too large. B+ We skipped dessert so we could ski. For the next three hours I just felt over full. They should definitely cut down on the portion size. All in all, it might be worth the experience but it's definitely not worth the price. We won't be back as Two Elk has better food at better prices with less pretentious staff. It was obvious to us that since we didn't order wine or drinks and didn't plan to run up a major bill our waiter was not too interested in us. 4 stars for the view and the lobster and brie bisque. They also had a great som and wine list but that still doesn't make up for the overcooked halibut. I think our table of 12 had 4 orders of the halibut entrée and all except one went back to the kitchen on the plate. It's hard to fault them too much for it because everything else was great. The soup is something I will never forget, go just for that. The elk Bolognese with hand made noodles was another standout dish. The snowcat driver that takes you back to the gondola after your meal was hilarious too! I cannot rave enough about The 10th! Probably the best meal of my life! We had a group of 4 and went at 5:30, which was a great time because it got pretty packed around 7pm. I started off with the pumpkin soup and my husband had the lobster bisque. They were both SO amazing! So creamy and just SO delicious! 3 of us had the halibut, and my grandmother had the lamb rack. The halibut was outstanding!!! It is served with lobster risotto and oh man, that was cooked to perfection! My grandmother's lamb rack was the best lamb I have ever tasted, and she felt the same way. She told me today (a day later) she wants to go back for that lamb! We all had the vanilla pots de creme. I had never had pot de creme before, but it was so good, and I was already so full, but I just HAD to finish every last bite, even though I thought I would explode! Amazing views, friendly service and great food! We went to the tenth, our first time, for my wife's birthday. We're expecting and her mom is here from overseas. The host, Chris, warmly welcomed us and led us to a great table with beautiful views of the Gore range. We ordered and received our food quickly and everything was perfect, even with my wife's dietary restrictions. The server, Matt, was warm and accommodating to any of our needs. At the end of service, after payment, Chris told us that if we waited just a minute a treat would be on its way from the kitchen. They had overheard it was my wife's birthday and had made a special desert. A lemon, coconut? curd with a cracker crust, raspberry purée and a bit of raspberry dust. Delicious. Such a treat and so sweet of them to care. We will be back! :) read more

They offer warm slippers for skiers for a break from uncomfortable ski boots. We have cocktails by the roaring fireplace with warm blankets followed by great food for lunch. Try the venison chili! Looking for an awesome dining experience with one of the most beautiful settings imaginable? Go to The 10th- do not pass go, do not collect $200- just go! Living in the Vail Valley, we don't eat on-mountain very often; however, we decided to visit The 10th because our wine is on their wine list (yeah!!). We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation and the staff couldn't have been nicer (and one of the front of house girls was a huge fan of our wines!). Before being seated, you are directed to the beautiful coat room where you can leave your ski gear and slippers are provided. At first, I wasn't sure about taking my boots off (it's always less than pleasant to put them back on), but decided to and loved every minute of the cozy, cushy slippers. Of course, the food is the most important part of a restaurant experience and we weren't disappointed! We started with the Hand Cut Fries with Black Truffle and Parmesan Cheese-- so good, super tasty! We also had the Wood Roasted Mussels & Frites with Parsley and Shallot Broth and Spicy Aioli- these were without question the best mussels I have ever eaten. Mussels with a deliciously savory broth and french fries- genius!! For our entrees, we had the Roasted Heritage Chicken with Potato Gnocchi, Fava Beans and Thyme Jus (me) and the Slow Cooked Elk Bolognese and Hand Cut Tagliatelle (my husband). Wow. Both were really good, but I hit the jackpot- the gnocchi were perfectly cooked and the chicken was divine. The service was first-class and we enjoyed our lunch in comfy chairs looking out towards the Gore Range though the panoramic windows. This was my favorite place on the mountain! I went 4 times in 2 days. It's an oasis! Great for mid morning bloody marys in the bar. Great for Happy hour and excellent for dinner -- very accommodating to large groups. They have a full bathroom so you can freshen up once you get off the slopes and before heading into the bar or dining room. Very fancy, but most people walk in wearing their ski gear. Beautiful gondola ride up for dinner reservation! The food was great! Best halibut I've ever had! Again, very accommodating to big groups for dinner. It's pricey, but completely worth every penny. This place was amazing! Our waitress was the friendliest waitress we have ever had. I don't think it was possible for her reviews of the food to be any better. The food was cooked perfectly just the way we wanted it. I would recommend the market steak which was cooked so perfectly by the chef. When we went to diner the conditions were awful, blizzard like conditions, they had a bobcat to bring us back and forth from the restaurant to the gondola. It was great. Unfortunately, after having a celebratory reunion lunch with our dear friends, we signed our check and left. Within hours our bank was calling us with fraudulent purchases made over the Internet. As a Vail Valley resident, I've watched with horror as The 10th, which started out as a wonderful mountainside dining experience, has devolved into an overpriced tourist trap. I was there New Year's Eve with my family. What a disaster! As Woody Allen once observed, the food was bad and the portions were small. The filet mignon was a couple a small slices of cold beef. The ribs were so tough that they had to be blasted apart with a jack hammer. And the service? I only hope the wait staff is back operating the Golden Peak lift now. Several times I had to flag down the nearest warm body to request water or silverware. Not once did someone inquire about the quality of our meal. Perhaps because they knew the answer. Not that they were busy mind you. There were plenty of tables open which may indicate that the Word is getting around. If you're looking for an overpriced après cocktail with a wonderful view, this is your place. Fine dining? You can do better. read more

Beware - This is NOT fine dining. Maybe it used to be, but now it is very lackluster hotel food. Look at the recent trend in the reviews before you waste your time and money. I wish I had. My elk bolognese was a joke - looked like it came out of a can - lots of pasta, very little meat, - no sauce no veggies no flavor. More boyardee than bolognese. The online pictures of this dish (taken a year ago) look fantastic, and I can't help wonder: Why did this restaurant so drastically degrade the quality of this entree? The simple salad was indeed so simple my six year old could have made it: wash lettuce, add two slices of cucumber, put on plate. No dressing, no seasoning - nothing else. Even the bread was dry and tasteless. Other entries ordered in our party ranged from bland to dry. It was frankly a relief to leave. For the same money, you can get quality on-mountain dining at Beano's or Zach's cabin. Or for that matter, dine almost anywhere else in Vail/Beaver Creek. But this one is a disaster. read more

After having dined at The 10th numerous times over the past 3 seasons, I was shocked by the horrible quality of my New Years' Eve meal. This was the worst food AND service I have had in a restaurant in a long time- no question. Read on at your own risk: My meal started with a pumpkin soup that straddled the line between lukewarm and chilled, as did most of my food over the course of the evening. I can only surmise that all heat lamps in the kitchen were broken and no one cared to notify us. There is no other fathomable reason why soup, steak, and mashed potatoes should all arrive stone cold. The next course, "Ham and Asparagus" consisted of 3 semi-raw spears of asparagus paired with a microscopic piece of overcooked bacon- just enough to remind you of what the dish should have been, if only a trained adult had prepared the food that evening. I had the great fortune of choosing the short rib as my entree, which our waiter raved about the one and only time he appeared at our table that evening. Upon arrival, the meat was rock hard and extremely salty to the point of being inedible (and cold, of course)! Perhaps this explains why the server never returned to set the silverware, ask how the food tasted, offer any dessert wine or coffee. Perhaps this is why he snatched the check, and the half-consumed dessert, out of my hands, without so much as an "Are you finished?" or "Happy New Year." What a lovely way to ring in 2015. There is a lot of amazing food in the Vail Valley. Go to one of the many restaurants where the waitstaff and kitchen care about their diners' experiences. Made lunch reservations on a girl's day out, and was honestly anticipating a snooty, pricey experience. BAM! I needn't have worried. This place is hands-down awesome, and worth almost every penny spent on our meal. They have a "boot-room" where you can deposit your wet outer ware, achy boots and itchy hats. They also provide slippers for you to walk around the restaurant in. I've never even heard of such a tremendous thing! Our waitress, Audrey, was an absolute dear and made my friend and I feel right at home with her relaxed attitude and hilarious sense of humor. Love her. I ordered the pheasant and chicken pot pie, and both the portion size and flavor were pretty great. My friend ordered the gnocchi, and I think both her and I were equally dissappointed with her very small portion. There was probably 15 gnocchi on her plate total. Desert was a bacon sundae, which you MUST try if they have it available! I think our only dissappointment was the food. You can pay $26 for a kids cheese pizza or PBJ or $21 for a salmon pizza on the adult menu! No comparison. I always enjoy eating at The Tenth. I always try to eat there at least once when I am in town skiing at Vail. Located at mid-Vail, The Tenth provides a calming and nourishing reprieve from a hard day on the slopes. I had the special, a short rib sandwich with their own barbeque sauce, and a delicious house cole slaw, rendered with just the right amount of shredded brussel sprouts. And for dessert we shared the butternut squash doughnuts, with heavy whipped cream flavored with real maple syrup. It was absolutely superb. Never had so many people tending to my needs for lunch. I didn't ever have to ask for a refill on my water or glass of wine. Everyone was perfectly nice and friendly, a classy attitude. Typically don't get treated this well in the middle of a ski mountain! I just love that I could take off my ski boots/gear and put on slippers...however the slippers are used which is a little scurvy, although they were in good shape. As long as they are frequently replaced, not a big deal. I was a little disappointed with my meal. It was good, but was expecting a little better. I ordered the Elk Bolognese with Ziti. Could barely even taste the Elk. Basically it was just ziti noodles with melted cheese and meat sauce. Would have liked to try their other dishes though, I'm sure they were great. Definitely make reservations, even if it is just for lunch. Yes its pricey, but not outrageous, I expect to pay more while in Vail and have no problem with it as long as I am treated like this! read more

We ate lunch there twice. The chili was some of the best around. The grilled cheese and tomato soup combo was perfect after a morning of skiing. The hot toddy was delicious and a must at each visit. Being able to take your boots off and put on "booties" while dining was a real treat. Next year there will be a gondola that goes directly to the restaurant for non skiers. read more
