The place has potential. But that's about it. It's not clean in there, there's no room to walk around. Most of the time the employees have other things to do. I called one day, was out on hold for 15 min, tried to call back and the phone was left off the hook for the rest of the day. Always see fish together that shouldn't be, do some are getting harassed. We poked around the local fish stores and stopped by The Aquarium Boutique. The place is pretty small and cluttered. The salt water section in the back was full of dirty tanks and sad looking fish. The fresh water fish also looked pretty sad and had a tank full of ill fish. The prices were also higher compared to the other fish stores we visited. WARNING: if you buy fish from here you cannot return OR exchange them if something happens to them. i bought 2 fish from here, one was very nippy at my other fish and returned him, they gave me $3 credit for him when i bought him for $16. my other fish i paid $45 and he died 4 days after i bought him. they did not do anything and just told me "sometimes fish just die." okay, a $40 fish just dies and you can't do anything, i would have been happy just with store credit or something. unfortunately i have spent hundreds of dollars here and i can no longer give them my service or money. their is plenty of other fish stores that will make things right if their fish dies. if you plan on returning a live fish you will get close to nothing for him. please do not go here! read more

Checked it out today, awesome freshwater section with a great variety of fish and some not so common stuff, beautiful Mbu puffer and had brackish puffers too. The salt water section had alot of fish dying , gasping for breath, ick on the fish. The guy didn't seem to care we were there either, asked him about a Tang and he ignored me at first. This is my all time favorite pet store. I'm an aquarium guy so that is where my praise is. The staff are beyond knowledgable and they have long term employees. The aquariums are awesome and the fish have always been healthy. I've not been in awhile (live in north Dallas now) but they used to trade out fish which was great. When my pleco got too big (or my oscars) they would take them in and give me smaller ones. If they still do this then they about the only ones that do. They had one fish I was interested in but they said he was in quarantine and he would be ready for sale after he was treated! So rare to find a good fish store who quarantine the fish and don't want to sell you a sick fish! Love the chatter of staff talking about the fish and maintaining the tanks! I came here looking to stock my aquarium with cichlids. After getting the "third degree" from an eleven year old employee as to which fish would be best for me I made my selection. I have over 15 years experience with cichlids, but whatever, I let him have his moment in the spotlight. I spent $50 on TWO fish...one of them died within hours of getting it home...the other lasted four days. I called and asked about their return policy for fish that didn't make it...they don't have one. I explained what happened and I was told they may be able to "help me out" by giving me 50% back after testing my water. I came here thinking I would receive better product and customer service than say...petsmart...but that apparently isn't true. The only good thing I got from here is the texas holey rock. read more

My boyfriend bought goldfish for $0.15 each and a background for his tank. We spoke to a younger boy most of the time and he was very knowledgeable about everything and answered all of our questions. Ok, I am fairly new to the aquarium world, been about a year and a half since I started. I have 3 tanks now. I must say I'm bad about getting online and looking for answers for my aquarium needs. With that being said everybody has a different way of doing things. I have talked to Yuki a few times now with very dumb questions. He always breaks things down to where I can understand what is actually happening in my aquariums. In my ear and a half, I have only lost 2 fish and I'm going to be starting another tank very soon. Ho hum. Even with quality control small things can get swept under the rug. I wanted to buy my younger brother a betta and decided to try a small local shop in the hopes that the fish would be in better condition than the ones sold in larger pet stores. At first I was excited to see so many gorgeous big tanks full of healthy-looking fish. Then I went to the back and was disappointed to find the usual row of containers with bettas gasping in a scant inch of incredibly filthy water and showing signs of finrot and starvation (by contrast, when we went to the nearby Petco we were surprised to find the bettas looking way healthier in much cleaner water). For the record, I happen to be a betta splendens enthusiast who probably walked into the wrong place at the wrong time, and I even signed up here on Yelp because I felt the need to address the issue. I think/hope it can be improved on in this case. The big tanks did look nice, so I'm sure the workers are capable of handling a few bettas in the same professional and capable way they do everything else. It's just that the small things count sometimes :) read more

The conditions in which they keep their fish are very poor. The tanks are small, overstocked, and generally unclean. Several tanks had multiple dead fish in them, which had obviously been there for awhile. Customer service is terrible. I purchased a combination of 12 fish yesterday afternoon and by the next morning, they were all dead. I have an established tank and water parameters were safe, and we spent an hour drip acclimating the fish, and tested to make sure the parameters and temperature matched before adding them. They would not give me my money back. read more
