In the past few months the quality of the food and service has gone nothing but down hill. Our most recent trip to Audubon can only be described as terrible, bordering on ridiculous. Let me start by saying that I used to be a fan. I knew what it what was, and perhaps that makes it's decline even more disappointing.
We arrived at about 6pm, though there were a half dozen people at the bar, there was only one other table seated. We ordered food quickly and hunkered down to await our meal. 15 minutes passed, then 30, then 45. At this point the waitress returned to let us know that the cook is starting our order, and they only had enough meat for 2 of the 3 orders of beef on weck that we placed. I switched my order to a bacon and blue cheese burger, and I was told that it would be brought out when it was done, not with the rest of our meal.
After another 15 minutes our food finally arrived. Well, my fellow diners' food arrived. I had the chicken finger portion of my meal, but was still waiting on the burger. The fingers were good today, so that was fine. My fiancee complained about her beef on weck, the roll was hard and over toasted, probably over done to hide it's staleness. The beef was dry. Luckily our guest was more pleased with her meal. We had ordered our fries crispy, and my fiancee's were dark brown and soggy. This has been a reoccurring problem here. THE FRIES ARE TERRIBLE NO MATTER HOW YOU ORDER THEM. For some reason the cook doesn't know how to fry french fries. They were soggy and had no crunch to them at all.
While everyone else had finished their meal, I sat back to wait for my burger. At some point later the waitress came back and apologized for the wait stating that "getting the cook to put out these orders was like pulling teeth". When the burger finally did arrive, a full 45 minutes after the order was placed (in addition to the 45 minute to an hour initial wait), it was not worth it. I should have sent it back, but at that point I was too hungry to care. The burger was aesthetically pleasing. It looked good, piled high with bacon and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I wish it was as appealing to the tongue as it was to the eye. It was terrible. The meat was completely flavorless. Strike that. It has a flavor. It tasted like they used cardboard as a mix in to get more burgers out of their stock. There was no use of spice, and the texture was off. The bacon was not good, but not terrible. The bun was too big and stale. Now here were my fries. Once again, they looked good. Not the burnt brown of my fiancee's, a nice golden color.
Of course looks can be deceiving. The fries were practically uncooked. They were like hot slices of potatoes, but not even that good. Hot slices of greasy, soggy potato. I had all of 3, and couldn't stomach another.
When the waitress came to clear our plates I let her know that the fries were practically uncooked. She said "I just deliver the food", implying that we shouldn't have it affect her tip. She asked if we wanted them redone, and not having another 45 minutes to waste, I declined.
Not wanting to make a scene in front of our guest, I didn't request to talk to a manager, but I did inform her that we won't be coming back. She shrugged her shoulders and walked off.
If you are the owner and are reading this, FIRE YOUR COOK and throw in the waitress for good measure. She may have only brought us the food, but the service was subpar and her attitude made a bad experience, worse.
The only good news is that they finally cleaned up a bit and removed the decorations from a baby shower that have been up since last year. The bad news is that it still smells like urinal cakes.
TL;DR: This is a place where your hopes of getting a good meal go to die. read more
