This place is my new favorite Mexican spot in the IE. It's Mexican home cooking just like my abuelas. We got the sopesitas & the carne con chile. The masa of the sopes was fresh and the meat was juicy. The salsas are fresh and there is one for every spice level. The carne con chile was perfectly spicy and the beans and rice were perfect. I came here since I saw that they had mole poblano ($20). Place is in the Claremont Village and the tables were filled quickly. Street parking only. I also got a Baja fish taco ($5) to try which came with sliced cabbage, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The fish batter was not too crispy and the portion size was good. The mole poblano came with a side of beans and rice. The chicken was tender and came off the bone easily. The mole had a good amount of heat, more smokier than other places I've tried. Oh boy. Please do yourself a favor and do not, for the love of all things holy, order the fajitas to go. First of all, they're not very good. They are very salty. The chicken is overcooked and the vegetables are undercooked. It doesn't come with sour cream or anything which would've helped balance out the heavy hand on salt. Most importantly - what you will carry out is a bowl of soup. There's so much liquid in this that as soon as I set the bag down, flat, on the front seat of my car brown liquid started to pool on the bottom. I had to hold the bag out of the window as I drove to my destination so it wouldn't get all over my car. When I got to where I was going I was stunned that when I opened the container with fajita mix of chicken and vegetables it was still full of liquid, and that what had spelled into the bag was only about a third of the liquid in the box. A total complete mess. I will certainly never order takeout from here again, but I don't know that I'd ever eat here again either. Apart from the the women on the staff, being absolutely lovely (kind, helpful), the food is pretty bad and this mess tells me that chef probably has no idea how to work in a restaurant. read more

Stumbled across this place while on my walk at the village. Super cute little restaurant. Clean, pretty and cozy. The staff are all very friendly. I also found it completely unreasonable they charge an extra $4 for eggs if you want them on your chilaquiles. By the color of the eggs they're just your regular basic eggs. Definitely not pasture raised that would warrant such a ridiculous charge. The waitress also said the steak and eggs was and I quote "ribeye" and Yeah nope this was flap meat. I recommend the chicken enchiladas de mole-the sauce profile was nutty, smokey, a tiny hint of spicy and sweet dark chocolate. My niece had a flavorful carne asada. I must say, their rice and beans were also delicious. I recommend making a reservation in advance or getting on their waitlist. We arrived at 1:45pm for a late lunch and didn't get seated until 3pm. The service was very friendly but it definitely took some time to get seated. Once seated the food came out fairly quickly. It was my first time and next time I'll be arriving much earlier because they were out of so many things! This was definitely disappointing. They were out of all their aguas frescas, pollo en mole, and tres leches and it was only 3:00pm. I noticed some other Yelpers also mentioned this same issue in their reviews. But the food was so good that I do plan on giving this place a second visit. Horrible customer service. I came on Mother's Day and I understand they are a small business with limited seating but we got seated 45 mins after arriving after being told the wait was 15 mins. The they sit is at the table next to the window where the shade cover doesn't work. The heat of the sun reflecting off the window was so hot and uncomfortable . When the waiter came 15 mins after being seated , I asked her if the shade worked or if we could be seated at another table and she said NO. I got up and left . How are you going to sit people by the window with the sun beaming on them. My face was burning. I wish their business the best but if the plan to run a business they need to be prepared for big days like today. Get more help, change the seating or fix your broken fixtures. And no I won't come back here even on a regular day of the week. read more

I visited this restaurant on Friday and have to say, the food was absolutely incredible. 10/10, chef's kiss. Every dish we tried was flavorful and well worth it. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. It was quite slow, and at times we felt like we were being overlooked. We had to ask for basic things like salsa and water refills, which really should come without needing to request especially when the restaurant wasn't busy (there were only about three tables occupied). I truly enjoyed the food and would come back for that alone, but I hope the service improves because it would make the entire experience so much better. read more

The wait time to get our food was close to 2 hours. No apology, no explanation. All our food came in at different times. Not a few minutes apart, but so spread out that each person finished their meal then the next person got their food. In Total we were there from 1:35 to 4:40. Here's a quick breakdown: Our first experience here, got there about 30 mins after opening on a Monday, no wait to be seated. 2-3 other tables already seated when we arrived. By the time we left every table was full. Ambiance is cute and pleasant. It's a small restaurant. Food: we got the Mole Poblano, and a pulpo and baja fish taco. The pulpo is delicious. Charred but not overcooked, good bite, would recommend. The fish taco was not standout but good. The mole was the star of the show with rich nutty flavor and good texture on top of juicy bone-in chicken thighs. Sides, (beans/rice) could stand a little more attention, but rounded out the plate nicely. I would highly recommend this dish. At $20 it's priced competitively with the other high-end Mexican places locally and definitely worthwhile. Amores is probably the best among the local scene for this dish. Service was good, I get the impression that the front of house is run by one person, but they are very attentive, and I don't think any table felt neglected or overlooked. No issues getting refills, etc. Kitchen service was not exactly fast, it took us about 30 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our first dishes. There are a few earlier reviews that highlight some specialty coffee drinks and things like that, which were not available when we went, which was a little bit of a disappointment. 100% recommend this cozy little restaurant in the downtown area of Clairmont. The food is excellent. A little different from most Mexican places since it is from the Yucatan Penninsula (Cancum area). As it was my first time at this place, I made my self a cheap sampler. 1 Taco Gobernador (Shrimp with grilled cheese), 1 Cochinita Pibil taco (like shreded stew pork with seasoned red onions on top), and later added 1 Carnitas taco (Carnitas were not chopped, but little juicy tasty chuncks). All three tacos were amazing. From posted pictures in other reviews one can tell the place is family owned, clean, expect to be served on porcelain or ceramic plate, and metal utensils. Oh hi we were able to make something work (the machaca). Ok fine.. im starving this is crazy. Other customers started asking to just get their food to go. I was asked if i wanted a coffee refill and 15 minutes later it didn't come i asked for the bill instead and hey!?? Guess what!? I was charged for the refill that never came... My husband found this spot on yelp and decided to give it a try. I'm really glad we did, the food did not disappoint. The menu offered a variety of delicious choices, which made it extremely difficult to choose one ! We got the mole chilaquiles & carne con chile plates with a lavender lemonade. The flavors were delicious and authentic & the portions were perfect. The service was amazing, such sweet women serving making sure you have everything you need and always checking in. We were disappointed with the overall experience. Customer service was not very welcoming. Our main waitress did not seem warm or friendly and never smiled during our visit. It also felt like the waitresses spent a lot of time chatting amongst themselves and on their phones instead of being attentive to guests. The one positive was the waitress who brought our food and later checked on us, she was pleasant and courteous. As for the food, it did not live up to the price point. The mole was decent but nothing special, and the portion size was smaller than what is shown in their photos. The tortillas were cheap which took away from the overall quality. The carne asada tacos were extremely greasy and had a lot of beef fat, making them difficult to enjoy. The most uncomfortable part of the visit was that I was there with my daughter and her friend, and there was a young reddish haired girl, not sure if she was related to the owner or an employee, who repeatedly walked by and gave my girls unfriendly looks. At one point she even sat in the back of the restaurant facing them and continued giving dirty looks for an extended period of time. My daughter brought it to my attention, and I personally observed it as well. It created a very uncomfortable and unprofessional atmosphere and took away from what should have been an enjoyable outing. Overall, the experience did not match the expectations based on the pricing and reviews. I hope the restaurant improves both the level of service and professionalism moving forward. read more

Tried Amores for the first time. Really cute spot! It's small inside but gives it that homey feel. Ordered their breakfast burrito with chorizo. It was really good, super flavorful. The only issue was the service. I know this place is relatively new so it's understandable. There was only one person taking orders while tending to customers at tables. It's so beautiful with a lovely floral decorum. Light blue accents and flowers on the tables. The prettiest Mexican restaurant that I've had the pleasure to dine in.
