I do like The Backyard a lot. It's changed a lot too and for the better with great improvements inside and a really nice outdoor seating. I'm mainly there for the food and it's genuinely one of the most / more affordable places where the consistent quality in the food keeps me going back. I've tried a lot from the menu and never a letdown but the BBQ when available on the weekends mainly is absolutely on the better side compared to the more "specific" dedicated BBQ places. The ribs are I bit more pricey not by much but the quality and smoke in it is way better. Although be warned it does not include sides. However, a lot of food and more of a portion than LITERALLY any BBQ spot in town. The brisket is fantastic as is the sloppy Joe's which is made up of the chopped up brisket too. Sides are all good. Hamburgers very reasonable in price and big. Other foods all good value. Well worth the drive to get here. read more

First time here. The inside is a lot smaller than I expected but there are lots of seating available outside. No more play area outside for the kids to occupy themselves with. Service was fine. Nothing notable but our server was polite and timely. Started off with a frozen pineapple marg. The margarita was really sour. Like really sour for my tastes...not sure if they used too much sour mix. Next, I had the pimento cheese with house made chips. This sounded really good and looked really appetizing but the whole dish was lack luster. The pimento cheese was basically a ball of cheddar jack cheese. No pimentos or bacon, as advertised and the chips were stale, limpy, and greasy. Not a fan. I got the wings as my entree. The wings where delicious BUT the Crystal sauce was way too strong. Vinegar in the sauce was over powering the wings.. would be better on the side or just ordered plain. Also got the burger, added cheese and bacon. I met up with a group of friends here one Saturday afternoon. I easily found parking in the off street lot but it looked like if the lot was full that plenty of street parking was available as well. There is very limited seating inside and at the bar, but since it was a nice day we opted to sit outside. The "backyard" is a dirt/gravel yard stocked with picnic tables and umbrellas. I myself do not like bench seating or dirt/gravel grounds when I have sandals on so we opted to sit at the high top bar on the covered porch instead. Also not a fan of bar chairs with no backs for support, but I made do. All of your food/beverage ordering is done at the outside window and then someone brings it out to you. They don't give you a table/order marker or anything like that- just walk outside and start calling your name which to me is a bit unorganized but I suppose for the casual vibe of the place it was ok. I ordered the muffuletta deviled eggs and a margarita. The deviled eggs came out before the margarita did. I asked the server who brought them out if he could bring me some share plates and he informed me they don't have that. So everyone would literally have to either pick out the food baskets or you could lay down multiple napkins and put your nibbles on like that. Again, not really my vibe but whatever; we made do. We basically all ordered stuff to share. After my margarita I switched to Catahoula Common. Now, I will say I'm normally an Abita Strawberry girl but I actually liked the Catahoula Common better- I thought it was lighter and more berry-forward, so I was glad to try something new here that I enjoyed beer-wise. Food was good. Nothing stood out as mind-blowing enough to crave again but it wasn't bad. A little salt and pepper was needed on just about everything we ordered but again, food was decent enough. Service was good. Like I mentioned you order at a window and servers bring your food and drink out to you. Nothing was above-and-beyond but everyone was friendly. Food came out pretty quickly. Bathrooms were clean as was the inside of the restaurant. I should have checked my check before I closed out. I thought my total was off after thinking about it when I got home. It was only then I noticed I was charged for 2 soft drinks I never ordered. So that was an extra $6 that should not have been on my check. Totally on me for not checking my receipt but definitely something people should be mindful of if you go here. My check for the deviled eggs, 3 Catahoulas, and 2 soft drinks (that I didn't order) was $34; I left a $10 cash tip because we stayed from noon til 6:30. Not sure if I'd make a beeline to stop here again but I suppose if I were to pop in casually to have a beer or two with friends it'd be ok. Kids meals only come with a tiny motts apple juice ? Not allowed to obtain a fountain drink? It would be cheaper for the restaurant to not order motts apple and just offer a cup for children. Note that the current menu displayed on their wall isn't as up to date as their digital menu. For instance, the brisket on a bun as of Jan 2021 is now $15 instead of $13. Pretty steep price but the food delivered. It was very tender and I enjoyed it. Currently the fountain drink machine isn't accessible due to safety protocol so any drink you get will have to be handled by the staff and delivered to you. Ordered this because it was close to work, I would most likely not eat here again. I just ordered a "burger", just a regular burger. It was one sad burger, meat wasn't flavorful, still pink, dressing: consist of sad sad lettuce as you can see- barely any, pickles and Mayo (I minus the tomatoes). I also ordered the devil eggs which was also ok. It wasn't a "wow" burger, nothing stood out. Better chance of getting a good burger at five guys. The food is delicious - pure and simple. Our first day in New Orleans and we had already made a plan to visit this place. Ordering via walk-up was easy but choosing exactly what to get was a bit more difficult... it all sounded so good. Ultimately, we chose The Brisket and The Zeus (my son got The Burger, not pictured) and it was everything we imagined. FASTEST BURGER I'VE EATEN IN YEARS And it was HUGE! The double patty, pimento cheese burger with grilled onions and jalapeños at The Backyard is seductively good. I usually eat just half of any such monstrosity, and save the rest for later. But bite after bite I kept thinking - dang my body is loving this. I think it started when each foray ended up with at least a tablespoon of molten pimento cheese falling off onto the plate. Of course that required me slathering it back on the next bite which made that one all the better. And on and on. OTHER OBSERVATIONS 1. The good of sitting at the counter: talking to the chef and watching a true short order kitchen 2. The issue of sitting at the counter: there is bad circulation and it gets very hot and smoky - your clothes will smell like grilled meat. 3. Regardless - I'd still sit at the counter. 4. Parents: Beware! This is no longer a kid-friendly zone. It's not even a friendly zone. We met friends for lunch this weekend so our kids could play in the "backyard" as we have done on many occasions over the past several years. We were surprised but not shocked that the playground was removed, but were flabbergasted when the staff came to our table on numerous occasions demanding that all of our children remain seated at our outdoor picnic table. This was a very strange and disappointing experience. We were apparently in good company as we saw no less than 5 other families getting reprimanded for their kids playing in the backyard - at the Backyard. Congratulations @Backyard, you are now yet another banal restaurant/sports bar in NOLA. We all previously accepted your overpriced tater tots and frosé because our kids loved playing outside and we the parents gladly paid extra for this luxury. Fun little lakeview restaurant. The bar is small but we managed to squeeze in. Drinks are a bit pricey but we'll made. They have an in-house distilled whiskey which is respectable. The food will definitely impress! The smoked wings were some of the best I've ever had. I had the hotdog which was also good. She had the brisket which also impressed. Service could have been better, but the bartender did confess that he had given notice earlier that day (thus the 4 rating).
