The food is as awesome! Bagels were toasted just right. We came to VA from MA to visit and stopped here and it was well worth it.

It's a quest fellow Yelpers -- the perfect bagel in Hampton Roads -- and I'm *still* on the look out. On a recent trip to VA Beach, a Yelp friend recommended checking this place out. First of all, way out of my way, so I'm surprised I even made it happen. Then I sat on this review, because I couldn't really decide where I should land on my star count, especially given COVID stuff. It's probably a solid 4 for me without the COVID stuff, but definitely 3 with...so maybe 3 1/2? So -- the good -- this place is fairly easy to find in a large strip mall, which means it has ample parking available. They have a long order counter and a side indoor dining area + some outdoor seating available. They apparently are organized enough that you can order online and pick up (which I didn't do), or order in the store. The place was PACKED and there was a line out the door. Usually a good sign. I went ahead and placed my order for a bacon, egg and cheese bagel and I picked up an additional two single bagels to take home. Once I got my order and started eating it in my car, I was impressed. This style of bagel is *not* my favorite, but I'd call it a true NJ/NY/Maine style bagel that is on the smaller, denser side. The bacon on this bagel was the bomb - very flavorful - and the egg and cheese combo was on point. So as far as breakfast sandwiches go, it was filling, tasty and enjoyable. The bad -- I stood around for at least 15-20 minutes waiting for my order. In that time, numerous customers entered without masks. Several of the staff took their masks off on and on to talk to each other and/or eat and drink something in plain view of the customers. I was highly aware of the amount of time I was waiting as a result. I kept ducking outside so as not to spend too much time indoors. So that part, really annoying. Then on the additional annoying end, my extra bagels. Every bagel store I visit I order extra to see how they hold up after a few days and/or how they freeze. In both cases, not so good here. I froze one and left one. The one I froze -- when I tried to thaw it and eat it, pretty much inedible. Cardboard consistency. The one I left developed mold in less than 48 hours because I took one day off and tried to eat it the following morning to find the rotten spores! So, for my purposes -- this place lands in the just alright category for me. For a quick breakfast, tasty. But for planning ahead like I do to purchase bagels in bulk and try to savor them for long periods of time, not so much. Do with that what you will Yelpers! read more

I used to be a regular here until I ran my card and was told it didn't go through (it did and was taken out of my bank account) but I paid again with cash. When I noticed the mistake I called and the owner said he would fix it. I waited a week and it still was not fixed. I called a total of 4 times and none of my messages were returned. read more

Yum!! The Bagel Baker is a super solid bagel shop. The menu is pretty big with a wide variety of options. Whether you like a classic bacon, egg and cheese, or something more elaborate, they have you covered! I do wish they had a larger selection of actual bagels as I felt like they were missing a sweet option like french toast or cinnamon sugar, but they had pretty much everything else as far as standard bagel flavors go. The inside is large and clean with plenty of seating indoors, as well as a patio out front which is dog friendly! The line was long but moved quickly. The woman who took our order was super friendly and made recommendations. We didn't have to wait long for our food, and our coffees were out almost immediately. They have a cold brew which is new to the menu, but I definitely recommend the iced coffee!! It claims to be famous and I believe it-- it was so good! And that sweet cream, omg. I love this place, it's perfect. From Saturday crunch session woking on a paper to a hangover cure on Sunday at 11, it's perfect. The food is amazing, heavy, greasy bagel sandwiches, perfectly spiced and made with care. But the standout is the iced coffee. Needs no modification, perfect ratio of cream, sugar, and dark roast. If you're on the way to church or coming home from the beach this spot is worth it. Don't expect it to be fast, it will take a few, but it's always been worth it. read more

Bagel Baker is my favorite bagel shop, I just wish there was another one closer to me! Needless to say, I try to make a visit here anytime I'm in the area and before they close (which is at 2pm). It has a NY-themed décor and mornings tend to be the busiest time to go. There is a small dining section off to the side. They have some delicious sandwich creations on their menu for breakfast or lunch. My visits are always during breakfast, and I usually get the same order every time, a regular bagel with lox cream cheese. Since I'm not in the area often I decided to also take some bagels back with me. There is something about Bagel Baker that sets it apart from the other bagel shops in the area. Maybe it's the fact that they are an authentic NY-style bagel shop and they make everything from scratch daily. So- I took a food-focused vacation to New York. Obviously, that included a bagel stop, and I was left craving more when I came home to Virginia Beach. Thank goodness for The Bagel Baker ready to satisfy my travel-induced cravings! Ordering is quick and easy. Service is friendly! There is plenty of space to wait in line, and they processed everyone through quickly. I wouldn't describe this spot as a "coffee shop," too, but they did have pumpkin spice when I visited in October- nice touch! The bagels are the perfect texture, and getting them toasted makes it that much better. They have breakfast sandwiches, I opt for the BB. It has egg, sausage, cheese, and hashbrowns. The easiest way to get me to love any item is to add potatoes to it. That makes the BB a clear winner in my book! I enjoy the everything bagel, but sometimes I feel like the onion is a little too powerful for me. I've started to keep it simple and order a plain bagel instead. I know I keep it simple, but they do have more adventurous sandwiches too. Plenty of options to keep you coming back, again and again, to try more items on their menu. I first saw a spotlight of this shop on the news and what do you know.. one of the bosses who always goes to this bagel shop brought some to work! The bagel was fresh and softer than most bagels I've had. Meaning it wasn't hard and tough like some bagels I've had. To be honest, when I visit Bagel Baker, I can say that my experience there was very average. The design of the dining area and the staff were really nice. The only downsides, in my opinion, was the food. I thought it looked a little neat with the New York decorations. Especially the map since it can give you an idea of how people move around in the city. Though it looks neat, it does not really garner my attention much. The staff at this restaurant were very good at their job. They seem very busy most of the time but are very efficient at their tasks. They got my order in and gave it to me at a reasonable time. Sadly, the only downside here was the food. When I ate the avacado toast, it felt really messy with all the lettuce and tomatoes on it. Also, I think it kind of took away from the flavor of the avacado. The Tribeca tasted kind of bland because it did not really have that much flavor. My overall recommendation would be for people interested in this place to come if they like bagels a lot and are from New York. Bagels, bagels, bagels! I stop here occasionally for breakfast sandwiches and it's pretty good. It's a relatively large establishment with a long counter and waiting area(there is always quite a wait after placing an order) and then a room with seating adjacent to that. It looks so nice inside since they redid everything! They have unique breakfast sandwich options and lunch sandwich options. There is something for everybody. I always get an Italian cream iced coffee, they seem to be known for it. I only wish the bagels were a bit bigger. They are relatively smaller than a typical New York bagel. read more

I am not sure how I have not stepped foot in this place but I am glad I did today! Stopped in for a very simple breakfast sandwich (I was hoping for a perfect egg and cheese bagel). The interior is awesome, love the NYC feel of everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ordering process/system I noticed the most. Very quick ordering (no Apple Pay), then you pick up at the pick up window. Sandwich was amazing (forgot to get a photo) but I did the NYC style, eggs and cheese on an everything bagel. So so SO good!!!! Like so good that I've been plotting my next visit to get another one. Price was a little more than a Dunkin or somewhere similar but worth it! The bagel breakfast sandwich was $7. I wanted to try a new breakfast place and since my husband loves bagels, this was a great idea. Cute little shop with bagels and deli sandwiches. I was pretty shocked when my husband ordered the chicken salad sandwich. He enjoyed it so much that I didn't even get a bite. I enjoyed the Long Island Lox on a toasted garlic bagel. I'm assuming this place is pretty legit judging by the New York accents I often find myself surrounded by when we come in. I'm also told by a friend that they have staple menu items she sometimes can't even find in her Upper East Side neighborhood bagel joints. From personal experience, we love this place based on the food alone. On our first visit I had the Queens, and the second I did the BB on Broadway and added a cream cheese schmear after enjoying that so much on the Queens sandwich. It made it ridiculously messy but I don't regret it for a minute. The hashbrown was a great little addition to the BB on Broadway. I'm sure it would easily stand alone without the cream cheese if you're not feeling quite so extra. Love their bagels, their cream cheese, their sausage, everything. The bagels always come out piping hot and every last bit of delicious. Their iced coffees with vanilla cream are some of my favorite iced coffees I've ever had. They're on the sweet side, without being TOO sweet (as mochas or other similar drinks might be). I honestly love them so much I have to pace myself and refrain from sucking the whole thing down at once. Holy Bagels! This place was pretty damn good and I'm a fellow New Yorker so I'm picky about my bagels. My sister ordered a bagel with egg, bacon and cheese on it and loved it. At the time, I just stuck with ole' faithful of an everything bagel with regular cream cheese. They were pretty packed during our visit but they were cranking it out pretty fast. #18/2020 I have been wanting to come here for some time now. I finally had the chance and the whole experience did not disappoint. I had no idea how great of a place this is. It was packed like a mad house on a Sunday morning but the line was moving kind of fast, and at first we didn't know you could eat inside from the way we walked in. After we placed our orders we saw there was a little dining section off to the side. We snagged the last table and revelled at the organized chaos going on around us. With the decor being New York City vibes, I felt the hustle and bustle was appropriate and fitting. Made me miss the City. The menu consists of breakfast sandwiches, regular sandwiches, soups, and salads. The usual bagels are offered: Everything, Cinnamon Raisin, Sesame, Onion, Poppy, Plain, Egg, Egg Everything, Garlic, Blueberry, and Sun Dried Tomato. I liked how the sandwiches were given names representative of NYC such as BB On Broadway, Queens, Tribeca, SOHO, etc. My man and I ordered the BB and Queens so we can both split but he didn't really like mine (Queens); said he preferred breakfast sausage over the Italian sausage patty that they use. I don't totally disagree but I still liked it nonetheless. Cream cheese has the tendency to make almost everything taste better anyway. His had a whole hashbrown patty in it and that was interesting. Before leaving I grabbed a Baker's Dozen of assorted sliced bagels to take home as well as a tub of plain cream cheese to go. Well, when we got home and started to put them in Ziplock bags, I noticed one was missing - the sun dried tomato one. I know and saw the lady pick one up and put it in the bag for slicing so I'm assuming whomever she gave it to, probably left it in the slicing hopper. Insert sad face. I didn't get too upset but you know how that goes... hence the 1 star docked. This will definitely be my go-to bagel place from now on. It's just a little bit of a drive for me but worth it. The service was great and it seemed like they have their system down to a science! It's like a very well-oiled machine! Tip: You can call your order in ahead - something I will be doing from now on! A fun surprise for us was seeing a coffee creamer dispenser that offered French Vanilla, Original, and Hazelnut! That is so cool and I totally want one in my house! I never knew those existed because I'm used to seeing individual creamers like at Wawa or 7-Eleven. When I find a good bagel shop I'm hooked. Their Lox and bagel is the best in VB. Touch smear of cream cheese and piled high smoked salmon with onions and capers. They serve theirs with a thick tomato slice which I appreciate and opened faced. The only way to serve Lox and bagel is opened face. :) Every time I visit my I get their Long Island Lox. Breakfast sandwiches are amaazing! The bacon here is cooked in some kind of magical oil because it is crispy and delicious every time I order a breakfast sandwich. Customize, order something off the menu, customize a menu item- you cannot go wrong! The bagels are great, but lately they haven't had my elusive sundried tomato bagel; however, the rest of the bagel selection is magnificent with cream cheese. This shop is located on North Great Neck Road in the Great Neck Village Shopping Center. Plenty of parking. The store is nice and bright, lots of windows and great lighting, so you can take your pretty IG & Yelp worthy foodie pics! The service is awesome, and owner George is super nice. I called ahead for my 2 bagels (Everything bagel, Lox Cream Cheese, and a plain bagel with the same spread.) AMAZING. So fresh and the Lox cream cheese was great! Perfect bites from beginning to end.
