My husband and I have been going here regularly for the last few years. We went again today and the food was beyond amazing. Their bagels were bigger, crisper on the outside, and softer on the inside than they've ever been. We always get their veggie cream cheese, and today was no different. The veggies in the cream cheese were actually chunks of real veggies whipped into a very creamy, light cream cheese. It was better than anything we've eaten there before. We were extremely happy with the changes on the interior of the bagel box and the quality of the food has only gone up as far as we are concerned. Last weekend we tried a couple different bagel places in Livingston and were extremely disappointed, as they either didn't make bagel sandwiches on site or they didn't carry pork in their store, so we went back to the faithful bagel box and decided that will remain our bagel place! read more

I call this morning to place an order to pick up on my way to work, the lady on the phone told me to hold on. I waited for awhile and got in my car to drive over all the while I'm still on hold I could here the workers talking but nothing else was going on. I get to the store still on the phone and I ask her why I was still on hold I'm the only one of two people in the store. She was so rude and nasty with me telling me how busy she is. I looked around once again and said I can see how busy you are again she got nasty. I ask to speak to the gentleman that runs the place she told he he wasn't there. I asked when will he be back she wouldn't answer me. She continue to be nasty and rude I laughed at her and I walked out. I had stopped going there because they had a mice problem years ago, now under new ownership I thought I would give it another try. Not after this I will never go back. I think they are the best tasting bagels in the area, and larger than most places. They don't have as many flavors as they did about a year ago. They used to have cheddar, cinnamon sugar and other tasty flavors. They stopped making them for some reason. Another downside is, if you go early on a Saturday morning, say 8:00 a.m., they don't have a lot to choose from. They open early, so don't know when they actually start making the bagels. Breakfast is there game and the bagel box is there name. There specialty cream cheeses are soooo yummy. The apricot cream cheese is my fav by far with the veggie a close second. There bagels are perfectly paired with Jersey typicals (taylor ham or bacon, egg and cheese) Everyone I know in the area swears by three bagel places around here and this is one of them. The nitty gritty: the bagels have a nice crust with a soft fluffy light middle. This is my regular bagel joint due to location but, if I didn't live in the area I would come from a distance just to get one. read more

I love this place ! I lived in West Orange for 17 years and always went there since the early mornings before first period in high school, but now I live in East Orange and I still find myself going there whenever I'm craving breakfast food. My go to is either a Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a bagel or the American burrito(so good). I've never been dissatisfied with the food, in fact it's the best breakfast food I've had anywhere! The bagels here are the best you will find in the area. The outside is just the right toughness with a soft chewy inside. There is something about their bagels specifically that you will not find anywhere around. While lunch service can slow up sometimes it's nevertheless worth the wait. I placed a breakfast order, which they messed up for the SECOND time and the manager refused to honor the order with the correct sandwich. Before the pandemic I used to get a bagel here at least 2 to 3 times a week. I don't know if there's new management but their customer service skills are horrible!!! Rude and nasty!!. I ordered a bagel with butter and jelly toasted when I got the bagel there was so much butter it looked like cream cheese. I then asked the woman Who prepared my order if it was toasted and she tells me that I didn't ask for it to to be toasted (which i did but of course the mask makes it hard to hear) but offered to give me another. Now that was fine but as she's making the bagel she starts getting smart saying I didn't ask for it to be toasted ( I thought we were already past that part but i guess she was upset) then a guy (who was in the back when I ordered) Starts saying that I didn't ask for it to be toasted and I have to ask when I first order. Again I am repeating myself saying I did maybe you just didn't hear me because of the mask. Now from the time I came back in the store for my order to be corrected, I remained calm and really just took it as a misunderstanding but they felt the need to keep repeating that I didn't ask for toasted even after offering to make another. The bagel box has solid bagels that are chewy on the outside and doughy on the inside. The pumpernickel is particularly flavorful. I'm surprised that this place hasn't won any local awards. Most of the other local bagel joints in Essex county have soft bagels that lack a chewy exterior. Overall, The Bagel Box's bagels not as good as the best in Manhattan, but are still a solid, delicious, and closer option. read more

The Bagels are good but the staff and the service is terrible. The staff is rude, lazy, and are too busy having personal conversations to help you. The people preparing your food dress like they are going to a rock concert and not serving food. No, gloves, no hairnets, and no aprons. The last straw was a week ago when a girl working there tried to shove an omelet in her mouth while talking to the other girl working next to her. This was all going on in front of me by the register. No one else offered to help me, she was not on brake, and I had to stand around and wait for her to cram the food into her mouth. Then after shoving food in her mouth (without utensils) she grabbed my bagel without washing her hands. Just what I wanted on my bagel, high school dropout spit!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! Never get anything to eat here! This was my first time there. I ordered a simple toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and my boyfriend ordered a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese. While waiting for our bagels to get toasted, because only one side of there double toaster was working. We watched an employee drag a garbage can with his gloves clean the whole counter with a dirty rag then wipe off the knife he used to cut our bagels with the same dirty rag. He grabbed our bagels with his dirty gloves. That made my stomach turn, we ended up throwing out our bagels and going to another bagel store. What's the purpose of wearing gloves if your going to drag a garbage can and clean with them on. Then clean the counter with a dirty rag then wipe your knife with it! This place is a health code violation. Don't eat here unless you want a bagel with dirt all over it. Simply gross! I usually avoid this place in favor of the MUCH better Northfield Bagel at the 280 exit near Main Street. I have always found Bagel Box too soft and doughy with no nice crust like a good bagel should have. The service can be very spotty and place never looks clean. Also, their parking lot is a joke - tiny and very difficult to access. But today the police had the Northfield / Wheeler Street area blocked off, so I had no choice. I ordered a sesame bagel while my son (acting as delivery boy) got an egg sandwich. When he got home I knew something was very wrong by the smell as soon as I began to open the bag. Sure enough, the simpletons had given me an "everything" bagel instead of the sesame I ordered. How dumb can you be? I tried a bite but the garlic overwhelmed the subtle taste of the smoke fish. I ended up scraping the lox and cream cheese onto some bread and trashing the nasty bagel. Hopefully the police fix whatever is wrong on Northfield Ave so I can get a decent bagel again. I used to be a fan of bagel box until recently Oct 12th 2013. I usually go to bagel box with my husband and kids every Saturday morning for breakfast but what I saw in the store on Oct 12th made me think twice. The place was EXTREMELY DIRTY! Flies and ants all over the place! It was a nightmare. I overhead two teenagers talking about how disgusting the place looks. I hope they will read this review and make amends. I also have a problem about how their employees dress, we don't want to see your BUTT CRACK while toasting our bagels, pull up your pants ladies... I hope you guys will work on all these.
