We always go into The Bagel Shop (now Bagel Dudes) with low expectations, and consistently they are great at proving those expectations correct. We only go here because there are not a lot of options in the area and the Chatham Perk is closed on Sundays, sigh. We put our orders on a not so busy Sunday, and learned, after paying, that they have ran out of bacon, three types of bagels (fan favorites too) and napkins (talk about messy fingeys). They asked what we wanted to sub for the bacon, and one of our gals politely said, sausage. She gets her sandwich, no sausage :( one subbed ham, if you're thinking about getting that... don't (talk about scary). Bagel toasted? Not a chance. I do like this part, but it's important to note to those that may not, that the eggs are an inch thick. All in all, they should really remove the "ES" at the end and call themselves the Bagel Duds. Stopped at the Bagel Shop or Bagel Dudes? (not-sure if they're going through re-branding) prior to a long walk on the beach. I went with the hangover sandwich on an everything bagel - this seemed perfect after having a couple glasses of Cab Sauvignon last night. The sandwich was excellent and featured plenty of meat and cheese. Overall, it was a solid breakfast before a long day of exploring town. Their location is pretty solid, toward the southern end of town near the beach and lighthouse. I do agree with all the reviews. The staff certainly weren't the most friendly though were not outright rude. Overall this is a place that met the need in the moment though probably wouldn't visit again. read more

Tried 5 times to call location for resolution to no avail. Mailbox was full and no one answered the phone. Update: Called again early the next day and spoke with the owner, Hunter. Hate to add a negative review to a local place, but lord almighty zero effort here. Staff were so surly. And I really try to give the benefit of the doubt to places that probably get slammed with tourists, but it's April and we were one of three customers in the place so... The person behind the counter was absolutely glowering at every person who deigned approach. She stared flatly while customers ordered, and then angrily mumbled so that we were forced to guess if she was repeating our order to us or passing it on to the prep person. Huge list of coffee flavors and syrups... too bad they're only for iced coffee (I guess? It was hard to discern the angry mumbling.) I ended up ordering a latte and didn't even bother clarifying when she didn't ask what size (I got a small; which was good bcs the coffee sucked). Breakfast sandwich was microwaved mush. Literally tasted like salt-flavored jello. Bagel with cream cheese was tolerable in the sense that bagels at their core are hard to screw up. Way overpriced for what we got. Decent bagel and cream cheese, clean building, and good location are all just enough to eke one more star. But I would not recommend this place and certainly won't go back. read more

From the moment we walked in, the condescending attitude was obvious. We were the only customers at the time, so can't say it was because they were overwhelmed and busy. Despite the very mixed reviews, I visited The Bagel Shop on a weekday morning in late June. I used to always visit Jo Mama's when it was in this space, despite it being so popular it took forever to order. I didn't remember anything bad from last year so gave The Bagel Shop a try again. On the plus side, if you're a customer, there was no line at all. Order taking was fast and a bagel and coffee were ready in just a couple of minutes. The bagel and cream cheese were fine - not the best ever, but normal sized and tasty. Coffee was also good, not great. In short, I didn't experience the problems with speed, staff, and food that others have. TBD whether problems surface with more traffic later in the summer, but on this day, it was a good experience. read more

we were walking through downtown looking for somewhere cute to grab a coffee and some breakfast and decided to stop in! i loved the outdoor tables and umbrellas and was drawn in!! we got a black coffee, iced caramel coffee with oat milk and 2 bagels! i love that you can create any bagel sandwich you want and they have SOO many options! i grabbed an everything bagel with avocado, tomatoes and red onions. my friend got a cream cheese everything bagel. service was super quick and the staff are so friendly!! we really enjoyed it and would absolutely recommend everyone to stop in! read more

My husband and I went to grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich from The Bagel Shop this morning and were treated so rudely by the girl at the register. I have never seen someone be so blatantly rude for no reason whatsoever. She was sitting on the counter with her back to the entry area when we walked in. We said hello and were greeted with an annoyed glare over her shoulder that she kept for the whole transaction. My husband ordered a large black coffee and I ordered a medium French vanilla and he received a medium and I received a small. We didn't dare ask for her to fix them since I knew nothing was going to end well with that request. We were planning on eating there but decided that we better just leave. I was SO hopeful! I've been trying to find real NY/NJ style bagels down cape-- but no one seems to compare! The bagel was on the smaller side, stale/crusty bread-like around the edges, and had the thinnest smear of cream cheese. My iced coffee tasted watered down and it had so much cream in it I only had one swig before tossing it out. Pretty bummed this was my first experience there. I was hoping to find a new cafe to have my bagel, coffee and get some work done ‍. I hope they amp up their game so that when local customers come in the first time, they are satisfied and want to come back and tell their friends about it! Best of luck. This place has the worst service I've ever seen. I went on 4th of july weekend so I expected it to be busy. When we walked in there was a huge line and nobody at the counter serving people. There were two flavors of bagels left as well until 45 min later when the girl brings out a box. A literal box. Of plain bagels. The staff was taking bagels and eating them while they were making food as well and on their phones with gloves on. First experience and will be the last. We ordered a NOVA and a bagel with cream cheese arrived. Charged $11 for a bagel with cream cheese. When I called to request a refund, the person told me it could not be refunded and that I had to come in another time to get my right order. The food was not good at all, so I won't be back. Who doesn't offer a refund when you get the order completely wrong? They also were adamant the order came in as a bagel with cream cheese when the receipt on the bag clearly says "NOVA" for $11. First off, I had come here before and it was amazing, which is why I give a 3, this was summer of 2021. Today, which is nearly June 2022, service was horrible. There was a party of 2 in front of us, there were 4 employees in there and they took 15 minutes to take 4 total peoples order, the 2 in front and the 2 in my party. The lady working the register was talking to a google home the whole time and skipping music on her airpod. I ordered a milkshake and a bagel with chicken, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and the onion was barely even cut. It was about a centimeter wide. There was a painting thag had fallen off some pole in the middle of the store, and it was just sitting there. Broken glass everywhere, nobody cleaning it. All of their new food shipments that had come, and were sitting on all of the tables inside, no indoor seating, it was now storage. The customers before us said thank you to both the woman at the counter and the kid making the breakfast sandwiches, neither responded or was even a little bit friendly. I'm leaving this as a public service announcement: do NOT go to the bagel shop #saveyourself. It's incredibly embarrassing to call yourself the Bagel Shop when your worst offering is your bagels. Don't even get me started on the "doughnuts". The cream cheese that we received looked radioactive at best and clearly was just sriracha mixed with cream cheese. Knew the moment I walked in, I should've walked out. The bagel egg sandwich was absolutely microwaved and possibly the worst breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Stopped in this morning for breakfast. Despite the sign at the entrance to town asking both vaccinated and unvaccinated to wear a mask indoors, none of the staff behind the counter was masked. I asked one worker if all staff was vaccinated and she told me she didn't know. I asked a second young woman and she told me I wasn't allowed to ask that question. I told her I was uncomfortable eating food prepared by unmasked unvaccinated people. She responded by asking me to leave which I did. I won't return. read more

Long time Chatham aficionado with big expectations for the bagel shop as joe mamas was certainly a show stopper. However, unfortunately i can simply only give 2 stars. The reason for only 2 and not zero was because the staff was friendly and pleasant. The food fell so short it barely made it out of the microwave. I ordered a jalapeño bagel with cream cheese and tomato toasted. What i received was the saddest excuse of a bagel i have ever seen. The bagel was undercooked dough with an almost paste like consistency. On the bagel was there version of "cream cheese" which I'm pretty sure was just a piece of American cheese. They also forgot the tomato. My recommendation is to go to cookware down the street and don't bother even trying the bagel shop read more

I would not go here again. Although I had read some bad reviews, we decided to pop in during a morning walk with our dog for coffee. I went in while my husband and dog waited outside. Inside, there was a couple at a table, and a woman near the back, along with a man standing at the counter. I thought he had ordered already, and was waiting for his coffee. I waited behind him for several minutes, while a grill cook and a female employee working the front were talking to each other. Finally, the woman came to the register/counter area, and asked the man in front of me what he would like. He ordered, and moved away. I moved toward the counter. The woman ignored me, stapled some papers, talked some more to her coworker. Waited some more. Finally, she acknowledged my existence, and asked what I would like. I ordered two cold brews, as there was a big sign advertising cold brew. Nope, no cold brew. So, I ordered two iced coffees. As I'm waiting, they call out a name, and the woman in the back, who had been waiting the whole time, stepped up to get her food order. It must have been 15 minutes. The couple seemed to still be waiting. Eventually I got our ice coffees, paid, and left. WAY too long to wait for premade iced coffee, especially without any eye contact or acknowledgement. Or a simple, "sorry for the wait." The kicker was, they had a big water bowl, obviously to be put outside the doorway for furry friends, that was just sitting inside in a corner.
