This place gets a 10/10 for the view alone. We sat at these really cute boat tables. The food is really good if you're looking for some old fashioned fried seafood. We ordered the seafood platter. You get to choose 3 proteins. I went w haddock, whole clams, and scallops. Comes w fries and a Dixie cup of coleslaw. Upcharge of $3 dollars for whole belly clams. Platter is really a one person platter. I paid $3 bucks upcharge for literally 5 clams. Order came out w shrimp instead of scallops but they kindly gave us the scallops. The batter is overwhelming and was over cooked. The clams had no taste. The scallops were very good. Shrimp very good and fish good. Price point $28, which in the end was not worth it. My friend had pan seared scallops and she liked them very much. 1 star for the view (and the fact that it's the lowest amount of stars I can give). Anything beyond that was terrible. It started with the people behind the counter.. very rude. Just barely wanted to answer questions about the food or even the prices. I felt like I was infringing on them by asking basic questions about the menu like "what soup do you have today?" They weren't even busy. There was no one else in the restaurant. Next, we sat and waited for the food. The toddler high chair had gum stuck to it. Nasty. We then got the food... how do you mess up a lobster roll? Seriously. Never have I ever not finished a lobster roll. Turns out it was my body warning me of the impending food toxicity journey I was about to embark on. Needless to say, never going back and I hope you heed my warnings. Edit: the business responded. We've been going to the Baited Hook for thirty plus years, ever since our grown children were little. Now we bring our dog, since we can sit outside with her. Our last time my husband had a burger and I had the pan seared scallops. They were delicious; the crispy fries plus the coleslaw were good, too. For dessert we had a pup cup: puppy was beyond thrilled to get her own dessert, more generous than anything we give her at home. Grown up dessert of hot fudge sundae was perfect. We have been eating here for the last two years. It's one of those places to can go to and know you will get good food! After the 30+ times of us eating here, we have never had an issue. We always leave satisfied. With a family of five that says a lot. My husband and I almost always get the fish tacos! The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get!! The best part of Baited Hook is they are constantly improving/ expanding seating, the look and feel of the place. Plus, the staff is ALWAYS friendly. My only negative comment is in the fall, winter and spring months they shorten their hours. So there have been times we look forward in eating there and they are closed. (That is on us as we need to get better at looking them up online to make sure they are open before heading over.) But, I must says it's a Big bummer as we really enjoy our dinners there. After a disappointing experience in the beginning of the summer, we agreed to give the Baited Hook a few more tries in hopes that we had truly caught them in a bad day and I had overreacted. This has been the case 100%!! Our subsequent visits have been pleasant, with reasonable order turnaround times and good quality food. We always find a seat quickly, and appreciate that we can bring our dogs because there is a lot of outdoor space to share. We especially like the 603 burger and the sweet potato fries and are grateful to have a good local burger option :) read more

Ordered takeout, nothing was missed and the service was great. Loved my french fries and ice cream. Very disappointed in the change they made with the chicken tenders. They're no longer nice breaded pieces of chicken, it's now a nugget shaped like a chicken tender. For $18.50 I was hoping for more quality. Really nice breakfast this morning. Great view right on Mascoma Lake. The restaurant has been nicely upgraded inside and out. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and my over medium eggs were done perfectly. Clean and modern bathrooms. I would highly recommend them for breakfast and lunch but would like to see some more non fried seafood options. Maybe a nightly special of steak, chops, pasta and/or chicken even if it's not always on the menu. read more

Growing up in the Lakes Region of NH in the 70's and 80's there were many "Snack" Bars or Drive-In's located near beaches and campgrounds. Most have disappeared, some jumped up and became more. Some like the Anchorage in Sunapee became full fledged restaurants. While others like the Baited Hook are stuck in between. This is not fine dinning or pure drive-in. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with take-out. We had to order at the counter and take a pager to our table. Anything we needed we had to get. This was the weakest part of our over all positive experience, and the ONLY REASON IT GETS A 4 Star. Our indoor table had a used paper covering. And, I had to take a couple trips back to the counter to get condiments. The teenage staff were courteous and friendly. They seemed to need a little training, but worked hard to fix issues. We arrived in the early afternoon and the crowd was small, but steadily changing. On a side, a very aggressive thunderstorm hit as we were pulling out and the whole staff had to rush outside to catch the patio umbrellas and signage as it was being blown away. For what it is, the food was very good. I had a Lobster Roll and honestly is was the best I have had this summer. It was not fancy, just the roll, coleslaw, and a bag of Lays Chips. The roll was cooked in my favorite style, hot with melted butter. They also offer the Lobster Salad Style. The meat was very nice. Slightly over, but very editable. My Wife had Full Belly Clams with fries, and coleslaw. She has never had fried full bellies before, and did not like them as much as strips. I also prefer strips, but finished hers for her. Their breading was nicely seasoned, but not overpowering. They were cooked well and we had no complaints that were the fault of the restaurant. I want to mention the coleslaw, freshness, and pricing. If you are like my wife and I, a badly done coleslaw can ruin a meal. The Baited Hook's coleslaw wasn't bad. They also appear and taste to be using fresh seafood. To many times this summer we've encountered frozen breaded elsewhere offerings at fresh from the market prices. We live in New England and can tell the difference. Excellent meal start to finish! We had lobster rolls, scallop rolls, belly clams and fried haddock. Sweet potato fries, slaw, ice cream sundaes oh my! What a lovely spot- we sat out at a picnic table and just enjoyed a quiet afternoon and the weather a sun views of the lake. Took the dogs as well- they broke out a bag of ice to give the dogs a big cold bowl of water. Also the service was excellent- friendly and efficient. May make a return visit this vacation. My wife and I just celebrated our 3rd anniversary here tonight and had a wonderful time. She has been coming to the Baited Hook since she was young. I'm from Las Vegas where there are many fine restaurants, but none with a view like the one here. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was nice, and the food was really tasty. The breading on the fried haddock and scallops was light and fried perfectly. The scallops were especially delicious. The grilled Melissa's Magnificent sandwich was good, but could have used some extra slaw. Luckily both of our meals came with it on the side! We both really liked their sweet potato fries and she enjoyed the onion rings. I prefer onion rings made with with actual rings of the onion, but these were formed into ring shape instead. We enjoyed the sunset with some ice cream sundaes. They have nice rocking chairs down on the dock with a gas heating tower to warm us up. Just went here to eat with my family (and dog). Food was decently priced and they allowed our dog on the outside picnic tables. However, first bite into the food and I was not happy with the quality. The scallops were chewy and filled with sand. The clam chowder tasted like Italian gravy (absolutely disgusting). We went back in and asked for our money back because we couldn't finish our meals. This place has some bad reviews and I'm not sure why! We had a great experience. The staff were friendly, the food was good, and the views were remarkable. The food is traditional, bar-type food, but they have some fresh options like stuffed avocado and salad for someone who doesn't want a burger or fried fish. I had the fish and chips with fries, my husband had a burger and fries. No complaints. This spot was 10 min off our route and I'm so glad we stopped in. The view alone was worth it. read more

Okay, we heard a lot about this place and tried it today. I understand it is under "new ownership" which might explain my low rating. The GOOD: It is lake side and clean. There are tables inside and out for dining. Wait time was fine as we were there for lunch. The BAD: Cod Dinner - $18, Clam Dinner - $10, Lobster Roll - $25, etc. So the prices are very high. Self-serve - You order at the register and bring all the food, drinks, silverware, etc. to your table AND they ask for a minimum of 15% gratuity at the time of payment. So lunch for 2 can cost $40 plus tip. The food... Clams were tasteless and mixed in w/a ton of fries but the Cod was served on top of a ton of fries and good. I can tell you that your food will not come looking like the picture posted here as that was a few years back. Bottom line is if you want a little fish w/your fries and want a view of the lake this is the place for you. read more
