I have driven by "The Bar" many times, never thought of stopping. My wife and I stopped there Friday night to check it out. We walked in and the place was packed. A very good band was playing. I didn't think we would get a seat anywhere.The host came over and found a seat for us at the bar. We had some appetizers , beers and were greeted by the friendliest bartenders ever. These women were GREAT! I can't wait to go back. They were incredibly friendly and funny. You can tell they enjoyed working with each other. The service was top shelf, my glass was never empty.The food was great the people that work there are even better, hard to find. read more

Parking lot packed, friends saying the pizza is great. Walked in, found only two barstools open just perfect for what my girlfriend and I wanted! Yes! Sat and waited ten minutes before we just watched us being ignored. The bartender was running around, serving the tables in the bar area, having to run into the kitchen to get around the bar to give them their drinks. Short handed, possibly. Still, there was no napkin system to tell anyone who had been greeted, not greeted yet, nothing. We had to ask to be helped and every drink, we had three each, we had to wait and ask for it. One point, we're both empty and he finally gives us attention and only notices that my friends wine needs filling. I guess my empty beer bottle wasn't his concern. We decide we've had enough, I'm hungry, want to try the pizza, so I order a small pie to go and 30 min later, I asked for the check and to cancel the pizza. I was told my pizza was ready and waiting in the kitchen. He couldn't answer me when I asked what was my pizza waiting for???? No thank you!!! Just awful!!!! I don't understand why our night here went this way. Update: I just read someone else's review who had similar things happen to them and worse!!! Fight with an intoxicated owner AND a reply with EXCUSES and asking that the bad review be removed. This place has no future. read more

I visited The Bar with a group of 8 on a Friday night. It was relatively busy but there was no wait to be seated. Upon entering the restaurant it was unclear whether you should seat yourself or wait to be seated. I saw multiple customers arrive appearing confused as there wasn't a dedicated hostess and no sign to direct them to seat themselves. Service - Our waitress was working extremely hard, she had more tables than she could handle. This lead to somewhat slow and forgetful service but I would never dock her for your effort. She also did not ask if we wanted separate checks or all one bill which is a pretty common starter question when you have a table of 8 that does not appear to be family. I think the issue here was that the employee had not been properly trained. I also noticed about half way through our meal that what appeared to be the Owner was busing tables. While I applaud the effort again, an owner should never be busing tables, good management looks like they are bored because they have managed their employees well enough to not do the work themselves. Food - The pizza that others ordered looked good, better than most pizza I see around New Haven, North Haven area. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Having eaten pizza twice already I opted for a grilled chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce. This was unfrozen right off the Sysco truck and nothing to write home about. I should have ordered the pizza, it is a pizza joint. The way they charged me for this sandwich was a little off, ended up being $.50 more expensive than the same sandwich without breading on the chicken. Again not the end of the world but shows management issues. Drinks - They definitely make stiff drinks which is a plus, the way they charge them to your bill is very odd and confusing. Needless to say when we questioned why there were 4 different Jack/Coke charges for 2 drinks, the manager had an attitude instantly and acted like we were trying to get our meal for free. After about 2 sentences of arguing she refused to talk to me, that is not how a manager should act. I'm not saying the customer is always right but you should address them professionally and try to resolve the situation....sadly this is just the beginning. My girlfriend went and talked to the manager at the counter. She then returned with the bill and we were just going to pay it and leave....and this where it turns horrible. The owner, who appears intoxicated, comes over to our table and starts angrily asking me if I understand the bill. I said " No, I don't understand but I just want to pay it and leave". He then gets in my face trying to force me to understand their terrible method of charging for drinks/food. I refused to listen and told him that I would just like to pay and leave. This is when THE OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO GO OUT BACK TO ALLEY AND FIGHT OVER IT. The entire restaurant went silent in shock. I'm a frequent traveler, I've dined at over 2000+ restaurants in my life. I have never had such lack of professionalism out of a restaurant employee, let alone an OWNER. Other employees took him to the back and kept him out of the dining area until our party left. The owner's wife came and apologized repeatedly after she realized what had occurred. I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with this on a day to day basis. If our waitress reads this, please reach out to me, I will help find you a new job at a more professional restaurant. I recommend that you do not support such a hostile owner. I would never return to this establishment and I suggest you do the same. read more

The pizza was actually really satisfying and great. I saw some reviews saying it was sub par but personally we were really happy with it. The waitress and bartender were absolutely fantastic and made my partner and I uncommon drinks to order that were fire. Overall, a wonderful and happy experience! My son and I stumbled upon this when staying at a hotel right down the road. The waitress was extremely friendly, got our drink order right away, supplied us with excellent garlic knots me took our food order. We got just a regular old New Haven pizza although the specials sounded great. The food came out quick, the waitress checked on is several times and refilled our drinks. We had cannoli for desert and it was good as well. We would definitely come back next time we are in town. read more

Worst customer service I've ever seen. I've been ordering from Minervini's about once a week for about two years. Once they moved to North Haven it seems like everything changed. Every time I place an order it's wrong and takes well over an hour to get to my house even though I'm less than 3 miles away. I've sent back orders twice on occasions so they would get it right. Even ordering on the phone is challenge because not only does the order have to be repeated twice every time, but they repeat it back to you wrong regardless. Great pizza. I'll give them that - best in the area. But the service is beyond horrible. read more

We live in north branford and were visiting someone. We tried The Bar for the very first time last night. We ordered 2 medium pizzas for take out. They were absolutely delicious. One pizza was mozz with meatball and the other was broccolirabe and sausage with light mozz and ricotta. They said 30 min and when I got there 30 min later they were coming out of the oven and I was on my way. Both pizzas were fantastic. We will definitely be going back there. read more

The pizza is very good for the area. It is very similar to new haven style without having to drive half an hour to pick it up. The only negative I see if phone ordering. The lady who took our order made us repeat each item about 5 times and we didn't even speak fast. We will definitely be coming here often, but hopefully someone else answers the phone. read more

Wasn't really impressed with this establishment. I'd rather bake a Digornio pizza or go to Pizza Hut, to be honest. The marinara tasted like Prego and there was no fresh garlic or basil (fresh or dried) as advertised. The "thin crust" was soggy and fell apart if you tried to pick it up. We just had dinner there with our two kids. I ordered an antipasto salad, and the kids got a half pepperoni/half cheese pizza. My wife ordered the eggplant rollatini. The salad was expansive -- huge! It was fresh and delicious and had plenty of the good stuff I look for on a good antipasto. The pizza was perfect -- the crust was thin and crisp with good flavor. The sauce and the toppings were just right. The eggplant was enormous and delicious. The service was friendly -- our waitress didn't bug us every 15 seconds for anything, but she was there when we needed something. We WILL be back and do take out. read more

Horrible experience! My boyfriend ordered a broccoli rabe and sausage sub. The rabe was soooooo tough, he could not even cut it with a steak knife! The rabe was all stalks and they were not cut at all. Basically, they took the tie off the bunch and threw it in the pan without cutting it. The foot long sub was not even cut in half because the cook must have known that he would not be able to get a knife through it! The bread was not even toasted so it was like wet muck! They brought me the wrong pasta dish and then when they did bring the right one it was like having sauce with pasta instead of pasta with sauce. it was our first and our last time there!!! I've have Minervini's in East Haven plenty of times and it was great. Apparently, they didn't bring it over to North Haven. I always judge a pizza place by simply trying a plain pizza, just sauce and mozzarella. That way you can really tell the quality of the dough, the sauce and the cheese, the main staples in a pizza. And if any pizza place cannot make a great plain pizza, that no matter what you put on it for toppings, you're going to have a bad time. So I tried a plain pizza from fair North Haven location. And I was disappointed that they couldn't even get a plain pizza right. First of all they burned it. Now a slight charring on the bottom of the pizza from a good brick oven is expected and enjoyed, this was cooked in a steel oven and just simply burnt. By doing that not only did I only taste burnt bread dough it also hallowed the crust so every time I grab a piece it broke apart in my hands. Overcooking it also stiffened the rest of the pie and felt like I was eating tasteless sauce and generic brand cheese off of cardboard. The sauce had no seasoning and clearly no olive oil in it. The cheese was also bland and not one drop of grease came off my slice which is what a lot of pizza lovers look for. Unfortunately Minervini's is just added to the list of disappointing pizza places in North Haven. And again just makes everyone in North Haven wish J Roo's would open up as soon as possible!! read more

Messed up on my order multiple times. Each time I had to drive the wrong pizza back and wait for them to make the correct pizza while the rest of my pizza was getting cold at home. They were not willing to issue a refund. We usually order pizza from here at least once a week. I will not order from them again. read more

Our pizza has been underdone, topping not correct, chicken fingers, fries, nachos, extra condiments, you name it are either missing or disgusting. Highly recommend going to The Bar - WOW. Great food which was absolutely delicious and the staff including Kerri were amazing! The owner even came out and said hello to us! I have a gluten allergy and Kerri took great care to make sure the cook in the back was well aware of my allergies. She even made sure to point out some other items I might want to try for my future visits. The hot apps were hot and delicious - the cold apps including the salad were just perfect.
