We stayed here for a few days in February. The room was super clean and comfortable.The bed was full of white pillows and was very inviting. It was very quiet. We would definitely stay here again. Hands down the worst motel I have ever stayed at. The suite's "living room is literally a hallway to the fire escape that they converted into a "suite" to charge $280 a night. They left in it some beat up mismatched furniture. On the floor below the "living room" is still a hallway (they haven't yet converted it into a living room. The hotel is a tourist trap in Ashland relying upon the fact that during the Shakespeare festival their guests are stuck with the outrageous price of their trashy rooms. Hotel had a smaller bed than was advertised, room was tiny, rug was dirty, sketchy figures walking past our room all night, traffic noise, light bleed, food poisoning from the horrible breakfast -- and both the hotel and Expedia refused to refund our money. Extremely dissatisfied with our stay at this establishment. Rude staff, dirty flooring, ants in room, noisy a/c., AND best of all having housekeeping walk in our room even though DONOTDISTURB sign hanging on door. We were pleased they were a dog friendly hotel but when you pay extra for a five pound dog we expect the $$ to go towards cleaning the dog poop in patio area from previous dogs. House keeping staff was content sitting and chatting with each other outside for over 30 minuets (noted while out walking our pup) instead of maybe working? Really? - We would have left and not stayed but we arrived late in evening after long day of driving and didn't want to deal with. Lots of good reviews for this place (that's what got us here) but buyer beware read more

This place is the worst! Oh it's clean and quiet like most Best Westerns, but the rooms are very small. We have a king sized bed in an studio sized space on the 2nd floor, no elevator. There's no closet, only an ardmore which is only in the way. When my wife uses the ironing board, there's no room to move around at all. The vanity is so small they put their year, coffee maker, ice bucket, etc. UNDER the sink! In addition, the a/c-heat is one of those window installed units that cycle on/off all through the night, very noisy. They also have limited parking with 28 spaces for 38 rooms. We ended up parking on the street last night which requires going up one of the two steeps ramps to the parking/room area. read more

This is a nice hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. The check in staff is good. Free breakfast is simple but tasty and saves a few dollars on eating out. The only drawback is the parking which doesn't seem sufficient for the number of rooms. If you come back late it can be a struggle to find a spot. The biggest advantage is the proximity to OSF and the local restaurants. read more

On a recent trip to Ashland, Oregon we decided to try Bard's instead of going to The Plaza Hotel as usual. The property was clean and the room was tidy. Everyone was friendly and there was a nice continental breakfast. It was about $10 less than The Plaza and only lacked a few of the comforts that we are used to at The Plaza Hotel. I really have no complaints about Bard's other than every time I go to a hotel and see a sign in the room that reads "Save the Planet" (referring to water use) it drives me crazy. I don't need this religion shoved down my throat when I stay in a hotel. The truth is hotels want to conserve water because it keeps their bills low. If they would just say so and be intellectually honest instead of forcing this tired, old ideology as a guilt trip I would be okay with that and actually respect it. That said, my general rule is whenever environmental guilt tactics are used in a hotel I don't return. Do yourself a favor and change the wording on your little signs. read more

A great place to stay. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, they made us feel right at home. Anything we needed they helped us with. The rooms are very clean and the beds (with lots of cozy pillows) were so comfortable I had the best sleep ever in a hotel. Will definitely be back! read more

I left a $200 down jacket in the closet of my room upon checkout by accident and called immediately when I realized it. I was told it wasn't there although I absolutely know where I left it. Obviously someone on the housekeeping staff thought it was a nice jacket and took it. I don't want to be accusatory but when you know you left something and where you left it and they say it was never there, then someone took it. I've called the hotel twice about this. The first time they were nice and looked for it to no avail. When I called the second time I asked for a manager and apparently there wasn't one on staff. I asked for the owner to call me back and I was given attitude about how busy he is and never received a phone call. I was told that their housekeeping is very trustworthy and they would never do that which is a nice sentiment on their part but clearly their staff may not be trustworthy since my jacket just "disappeared". Before all of this I was extremely happy with my stay. The girl that checked me in was awesome and I was happy and planning to return. But I will not give this place my business again. read more

Horrible! The heat didn't want to fully work, our baby woke up to freezing hands and face and our 6 year old curled in a ball freezing. 4 of us had to sleep in a queen bed just to keep warm. There is no heat in the bathroom, sitting on an ice cold toilet and freezing showers. Breakfast was also very gross. The hit breakfast tasted days old, it was soggy or over cooked depending on what you ate. The muffins where not fully defrosted from the freezer. Only thing good was the kids cereal per my 6 year old. There solution to the heat not working was they had small space heaters for when the heat doesn't work... we already had to wait twice as long for a crib since we where staying at the location across the street from the lobby (place is cut into 3 places ) and the baby had finally fallen back asleep and didn't want to wake her again so we all slept on the bed directly under the heater to keep warm. Don't stay here with children when it's cold you may as well sleep in your car. read more

So I checked in and was hoping it would be as nice as the Ashland Plaza or the Ashland Springs Hotel! Omg was I way off base! They recommended it because they were booked. They should have just said go to another town. The door to the room was shabby and outdated...I was praying what was inside was better...No such luck! The room has a door that doesn't lock properly...single woman alone...that is really unnerving. Then...the room smelled stuffy and stale...but I had been driving most of the day and ran inside anyways and headed for the restroom! The toilet had a dirty toilet! Including black pubic hairs(I'm blonde), toilet paper and PEE ON THE SEAT! I tried to clean it but was so grossed out that I decided to just hold it and use the restroom at the dinner house. I stopped to let the staff know...he let me know they had no other rooms and he would clean it up. So...almost $200 a night for a room that includes pee, pubes and an improperly locking door! I'm really appalled and would NOT every recommend someone stay here. I have traveled the world and many impoverished countries and this was dirtier than most of those places. To top it off the staff didn't seem to care and had nothing to say. When I stopped back in for a key the girl at the front desk was rather nonplussed and flippant. I will NEVER stay here again! Will also be making sure to contact all the sites about what I thought. I booked direct and the website and my room are a far cry from the reality of this place. And...I guess they charge extra for mosquitoes in the room and that's why it was so expensive for such a horrible place to stay! When they cleaned up the pee they must have left my door open because I can't count the bites that I now have or the number of mosquitoes I've killed! read more

Terrible stay! Air conditioning didn't work in 90 degree weather. After miserable night and several requests for assistance later they sent a floor fan! Then, after being unable to repair the sir conditioner, they decided we should move rooms but did not offer to help move our luggage. Very pleasant 2-night stay. Perfect location. Can walk to shops, restaurants, beautiful Lithia Park. Good-sized, comfortable room for two friends. Always appreciate the sink vanity outside the bathroom. Great showerhead high enough for a tall person. Don't need all the decorative pillows on the beds -- no place to put them when it's time to sleep. Comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast, especially the little quiches. Our building had underground parking, with only one tight spot when we got back to hotel. All cars scraped bottom on steep slope into garage. We parked on street second night. Very, very friend staff -- from front desk to maintenance to breakfast servers -- all nice. We would both go back if returning to Ashland. read more

I stayed here for a night when I was in Ashland for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. If you're looking for affordable lodging that's near the downtown area, I would highly recommend this hotel. Our room was clean and had a nice balcony view of the main street going through town. Accommodations are just what you'd expect for this price. All things considered, Bard's Inn is a great choice for someone looking to experience Ashland and also save a bit of money. read more

Unfortunately very poor customer service. The night time crew was great and offered to compensate for a tv that wasn't working. However, the morning manager blamed the problem on us and wouldn't offer the discount. The room was nice and so was the location but there are plenty of great places to stay Ashland that go the extra mile. Also, when we called to reserve the room the gentlemen on the phone suggested we stick with the internet reservation- he wasn't able to help with booking. read more

We stopped here mid-week in January while on a roadtrip, so had no trouble getting a room. I'm sure you have to book way ahead to stay here in the summer. We were traveling with two of our children and got a 2-bedroom suite for an astonishingly low price that included continental breakfast. Our room was simply furnished but with high quality linens and great pillows - much more upscale than one would expect at a Best Western. The continental breakfast was great with kids, providing a selection of cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, etc. We were told that a pastry chef provides some of the yummier goodies - mini quiches and some excellent pastries. Coffee was typical hotel coffee but I won't complain as our entire experience was so good. It's right downtown so convenient to walk to shopping and good restaurants. read more

It's a place to stay, the staff is very friendly and it's conveniently located. Other than that it doesn't have much going for it. When you first enter the room it reeks of some toxic cleaning solution. The rooms are kind of dark even though it was brilliant sunshine while we were there. My husband booked a room in the Sonnet suite...with a jacuzzi for Valentine Day and our wedding anniversary. The staff was very friendly when he checked in. Our first night we had to climb into the jacuzzi to manually tried to get the electric mini blinds to close.... called the next day to the office if they could fix them..housekeeping came right away ...and show us the trick to grab blinds and use your hand to close them ...because they were broken. Then later I tried to use jacuzzi and the jets would only come on strong for about 5 seconds and go to low...Again we called office and housekeeping came and couldn't fix it....Office said it's always been that way and never had any complaints...we chose to check out...when going into the office...woman was very unfriendly and we said that they should have it looked at...very curtly she said I understand....not I'm sorry and definitely not the warm welcome we had when checking in...the very same woman..... at $152 a night you expect the blinds and other things in full working condition. read more

I give it 4 stars because it's clean, and close to all activities downtown. We stayed in the main section and there is no privacy. Doors and windows open to common hallway. Towels are small and thin. Breakfast is adequate. Pool area bare basics. But like I said, room was clean and updated. And within walking distance to everything you could want. read more

We traveled to Ashland this past weekend. Our stay at The Bard's Inn was disappointing, to say the least. We arrived at 3:00, check in time, but our room was not ready until 3:45. The excuse was "we had a lot of check-outs this morning"...no apology given. Desk clerk gave us no information about amenities (pool, jacuzzi, breakfast) before shuffling us off to Sonnet, across the street and apparently far from the caring attention of staff. However, the worse was yet to come. Despite its close location to the theater, we needed to drive there due to my husband's mobility issues (props to the City of Ashland which offers free parking to those with placards). Upon returning to the hotel at 11:00 pm, we found the lone handicap reserve spot taken--by a card without a placard--and no other parking available due to two other cars overshooting their spots making the spot in between unavailable. There was no available parking on street outside hotel either. I called the front desk, told him about the situation and offered to give him auto information on those parked irresponsibly. He refused and said he would walk over. Long story not so short, he never dealt with the situation, was rude and condescending, with no apology or suggestions offered. (He could have offered us a parking space at the main building with a ride over to Sonnet.) He acted as if he was angry that we had asked him to do his job. We ended up parking blocks away and were never contacted again. When my husband tried to explain the issue to weekend manager the next morning, he heard "if I talk to (the rude employee) about this, it will just go in one ear and out the other. I'll have the manager call you tomorrow." And this morning he did call, with lots of excuses and "this doesn't sound like (rude employee), maybe he was having a bad day." Nothing offered by him, except excuses: "with parking at a premium, we don't even know if the person parked illegally in the handicapped space was a guest." Maybe look for the parking plaque issued by your hotel? We did and they were. Here's a suggestion: first train your staff and second, with parking at a premium, patrol the lot at Sonnet, especially during theater season, earlier in the evening to prevent issues like this. And how about making the ADA parking space more apparent by putting sign on wall, as well as faded paint on the ground? We love Ashland and OSF (we are members) and will be back there next year but not to stay at The Bard's Inn. read more

We stay at the Bards Inn every year for the annual Taste of Ashland wine event the last weekend in April. We have always been treated wonderfully by the staff and never have a problem getting the specific room that we want. The rooms are decent size and the vanity area has been updated recently. The hotel is located right downtown and it is very convenient to walk to dinner, drinks, or shopping. We request one of the rooms on the bottom floor in the south building. They have a sliding door that goes out to a nice patio area. The contentianal breakfast has everything you could want, pancakes, cereal, hot breakfast burritos, sausage, quiche, bagels, yogurt, fruit, muffins, juice & coffee. If you sign up to be a rewards member at bestwestern.com and tell them you are a member when booking, you will receive a gift bag with two water bottles & granola bars. read more

I'm a bit late in posting this, but we stayed here several months ago. This was the perfect place to stay for our first trip to Ashland, Oregon! The staff was incredibly friendly, the room was clean and comfortable,and the breakfast was FAR better than the usual 'free' breakfast fare. I hope to make trips to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival a regular destination, and I will stay here again in a heartbeat. read more

Lady got stuck in the elevator when the power went out the front desk didn't do anything the lady stuck had to call 911 and the emergency phone within the elevator was a robot and linked her to a dead line after 30 minutes the fire department finally showed up and managed to get her out when she spiked to one of the men working at the front desk he simply said there was nothing he could do no one wanted to help people just left everyone here was rude and then when going to breakfast the power was still out when we asked an employee for help she responded with an eye roll and proceeded to speak back at us not only that but I was with my elderly grandmother who had very bad knees and no one cared to help or offer help when we were stuck on the 3rd floor! I don't recommend the rooms were not great and I found garbage behind the night stand . I would not recommend everyone was rude and when we confronted a rude worker he said I'm young and new ! NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! Recently stayed here I'm an 83 year old woman who suffers from immaculate degeneration as well as poor vision problems and recently had Knee surgery this morning the power shut off and no was able to use the elevator one lady got stuck in when the power went out no one came to help no one checked on us. I wasn't able to leave my room. My granddaughter had to go run and alert the front desk of the situation after waiting 30 mins still no help sent over then once again my granddaughter had to run over and alert the front desk in response they told her they was nothing much they could do ! After being stranded I had to have not only my daughter and granddaughter help me down the dark steep steps we hoped some other guest would come for help yet no one did people walked by no workers came to help and strangers shut there doors when viewing us going down the stairs blindly and no one else was willing to help the poor woman in the elevator when the fire department eventually arrived and got the woman out yet both the fire department and workers laughed at the woman when she told them of her terrifying experience ! Then when we finally made it out of that building we went to breakfast which was cold and no power there either when we asked the staff for help all would glare and walk away! I don't wish this experience on anyone ! Then when checking out the same young kid at the desk who didn't help and laughed at the lady in the elevator he proceeded to say there was nothing he could do cause he was young and new the attitude he gave us was utterly inappropriate ! Never stay here it's not worth the money ! I mean it was disgusting not only horrible staff but the room was not great it was dirty and garbage and scraps left behind ! You would think a hotel like this of immense size would have a better back up generator, yet they didn't and all guests were left in the dark. NEVER COME HERE ! read more

I would suggest staying somewhere else unless you want to sleep with a family of cockroaches. We checked in at night and got a bottom floor room which was a little sketchy considering it was right next to a side street with a gaping opening from the hallway to the street then when we woke up the next day and started getting ready in the morning, we saw a cockroach crawling on our bed. We screamed a little and a manager looking woman came in with a mad look on her face and said "there are other guests here... Is there a problem?" then when we told her, she walked away. The maids came in and moved the beds to look for more and we left. About 2 hours later we came back and talked to a maid and she said they found one more and apologized. Once we walked in the room there was an overbearing chemical smell to the point where we had to leave. We had an obligation to get to so we couldn't deal with the issue until later that evening. Once we went to the front desk, we told the lady what happened and she said "I didn't know about this situation except for the sprayer coming in". We proceeded to ask why they called a sprayer without informing us that they were spraying pesticides in our room and asked if we could change rooms and she said no unless we wanted to pay a higher rate. It took some reasoning but we finally got to change rooms into the next building on the second floor and we were very pleased with the service after that and the other front desk ladies were very attentive. read more

I only booked here for a single night, less than 24 hours, and what a terrible experience at the front desk (or, at least with one particular employee). I booked months in advance for a business conference. I paid for 2 rooms for a coworker and myself. Used the business credit card to take care of everything. I stayed at another hotel in Ashland directly prior to this stay without issue. When I arrived, the woman behind the counter (wendy) said that despite the fact that I had booked it ahead of time on the business card, she required that physical card in hand. Not for incidentals but for payment of the room. So, I was forced to provide my own and be reimbursed by my workplace later. Upon checking out, we had another person at the front desk. Long story short, my coworker still had the original business card under her name and was able to check out with no issue. My account, however, was changed by Wendy to my personal card. Wtf? After explaining the situation to this young lady, she refused to charge my card and opted to have a conversation with the other woman when she came into work to straighten it out so that I could charge it to the business. I was happy to have dealt with this person as she was polite and used common sense. At this point, I would give a higher star rating except that after I got off of my flight home I received a voicemail from Wendy. She explained that she would charge the business this time only, but I should be aware that I can't again because blah blah blah. Literally a 3 minute long voicemail lecture. She said "the next time I book Best Western..." to which I immediately thought "There will never be a next time!" This woman was extremely rude and with an entitled attitude. And in the end, she screwed up by refusing me to charge my business in the first place while allowing an exception to my co-worker. All in all, she was incompetent and should not be working in a business of hospitality. I don't need this kind of aggravation when I am traveling. read more

i visited ashland for the first time and fell in love! it is an awesome little town. i got to town and pulled up to the first hotel i saw which was the bards inn. the staff was helpful and smiling and showed me what there was to do and what places were good to eat at. i got a great room in the main building next to the office and pool. my room was brand new! i've never slept so comfortable! i want one of their beds at my home! the breakfast was yummy and had many different options. i can't wait until i get to come back to ashland and i'm defiantly going to be staying at the bards inn. thanks to the whole staff for a great first visit! thanks! read more
