We had the mobile service come to our home to cut the nails of our 4 dogs. Kara was awesome and super patient with all of them, including our Great Dane who has severe anxiety. We cannot thank Kara enough for being understanding, having a calm demeanor and SO being so great with all of our girls. You can tell that she is truly "dog person" and understands dogs- even ones with anxiety - which was wonderful! She asked if we wanted their nails grinded or cut which was nice, too! We already have our next appointment booked with her and will continue to use this company, specifically Kara, for our dog's nail trimming, and maybe grooming in the future! THANK YOU! read more

Such a HORRIBLE experience here today. I arrived at 4pm as google maps said they were open til 5 and was told I made it just in time bc all the groomers were leaving soon. Ok fine, whatever. Either tell me to come back another time (spoiler alert...that's not what happened) or update your hours on google maps/put them on your website. I have two greyhounds. Lyra is a tripod and has only one back leg. Typically, they take them back one at a time. Not today. Because Lyra has only one back leg she is terrified of tile/wood/slippery floors as she has slipped/fallen in the past. (I've always wondered why there aren't rugs/mats behind the counter, but it's never been a problem as the person USUALLY patiently gets her to bounce through.) Well, the girl proceeds to drag her through the swinging door and Lyra slips and goes down and is flopping around like a fish out of water. Once she's back up (and of course trembling with her tail between her legs) they get to the doors to the grooming area. Placed DIRECTLY behind the doors is a wet vac. Literally blocking the doors from opening. In addition, the hose and chord are all over the place. I'm just curious, what percent of dogs like vacuums? My guess is it's pretty low. Lyra hates vacuums. So now the girl is DRAGGING her pretty much over this vacuum and through the chord/hose where she continues to slip and is now tripping over this mess. Meanwhile two guys are back there just standing there watching this unfold. One of the guys is tasked with their nails. So he picks Lyra up (incorrectly), puts her on the table and puts a strap around her waist. Once again, other guy is just standing there watching. Not helping. At one point her back leg shifted about 2 cm away from her falling off the table. I explain to the girl this is making me uncomfortable. At the same moment I see him grab her back paw/ankle and begin to use it to LIFT HER ENTIRE BACK END UP so he could trim the back paw nails!!!! Are you fricking kidding me??? When Lyra's trim was over, the way this guy handled her was so painful to watch. His bad attitude was obvious and palpable, even from another room. I felt like I was watching the scene from A Christmas Story when they go see Santa and the elves are dragging and shoving the kids around. It was disturbing. Like, does he even like dogs? Was he mad bc I came when he was about to leave? If that's the case, how dare you take it out on my sweet Lyra. Or is this generally how he handles animals? PLEASE train your people on how to handle nail trims on tripods, correctly pick up a dog, treat animals in general and for the LOVE of all things, put some mats on the floor behind the counter. Lyra is now squealing every time she tries to stand up and I am currently sitting her icing her thigh which is extremely swollen. Needless to say we will not be returning in the future. (Unrelated....the first time I brought them in, I asked if I could get a discount on Lyra since she doesn't have all four paws. I was told no LOL. First time that ever happened) Two thumbs down. read more

Unfortunately had such a disappointing and frustrating experience with the owner of the shop, Alina. When I went to pick up my dog, I was charged a $50 fee because she was matted even though I communicated this prior to her appointment and was never told of this additional fee. When I simply stated that I would have liked to have known about the fee when she personally examined my dog prior to the appointment, she refused to consider altering the fee in the slightest. I shared that I have been a long standing customer and was only looking for communication for unexpected fees prior to being charged. Rather than trying to rectify a situation where a customer was clearly upset from the lack of communication, she showed zero empathy or care for the situation. Please, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere if you are looking for a trust worthy owner. read more

One afternoon, while Ryno was visiting his Grandma in the 'burbs, we decided to take Ryno for a visit here. I've drove by this shop a bazillion times, but never stopped in, until Grandma told me how cute it was! Inside, the store has a WIDE variety of different cookies, products, and collars/leashes to choose from. I ended up buying Ryno an essential Cub hat for this upcoming World Series Championship series (Ok, wishful thinking, but it COULD happen!). He looks adorable in it! I will be back for sure as they have grooming services, a self wash, and a pet photographer on staff! The prices are very reasonable too, which makes it easier to come back, and load up Ryno on all the doggy biscuits he wants! read more

I've been taking my dog to the barker shop for about 1.5 years for grooming every 6-8 weeks. They are okay with no major issues except for a couple of times. Once where I felt the dog was not even given a bath and left a review to that effect and another time where they messed up my dogs nails and also left a review/feedback to be more gentle with his nails. After the first review, the barker shop called me back and said they would redo the grooming for free if I brought my dog within a week which I thought was courteous and good customer service. I recently called to book an appointment and because I left 2 reviews that were not stellar, they were hesitant to book me for another appointment; basically telling me to go somewhere else. I pay about $68 plus tip for grooming service and the first time I've ever heard a business saying go somewhere else because I provided feedback. BTW, the barker shop requests a review after each visit. If they aren't prepared to hear honest feedback on ways to improve, then don't send feedback requests. read more

We found The Barker Shop on top 20 groomers in Chicago. We stopped by before our puppy was even born to check it out. The customer service was amazing and we didn't even have the pooch yet. Luckily, the woman who answered the phone directed me to Novi. He's absolutely amazing! He takes Wednesday into consideration. I can't even pretend to know how skilled one has to be and how tedious hand-stripping must be, not to mention on a 5 month old puppy in training.
