I've driven past this place for years but never actually went in. I had to go to the pet hospital next door, and someone mentioned this spot and that it's cash only, so I decided to stop by and wait with my pet. They've got a really solid happy hour and a good group of regulars. I went during a super quiet time, which made the whole experience even better for me. . Bottled beers, great deals, and a chill vibe. I'll definitely be back.

Reason for 4 stars.... I need to explain. Service is good here. Be patient they usually are busy and are limited in servers. Drinks are decent. Food is good some of it is from scratch some of it you can tell was from a can and warmed up. The food is reasonably priced. I feel they make a mean mozzarella stick, and the marinara sauce is really flavorful. Don't come here expecting a really fancy restaurant, but it blows most bar food out of the water. It's got an old time feel in here. Very rat pack feel inside. They have live music got to follow them to see who is playing. Tonight it is The Pepper Moons. Love them!!! Thank you to The Pepper Moons for being here tonight.

Another Jazz Club Collected! This little fille took herself out on a date and of course ended up listening to some Jazz. It was my first time at the Barkley, but most certainly won't be my last. I've been trying to get myself here for the longest time! Its one of the few places that I know does Jazz on a late weekend night (9pm - 1am, Friday -Sunday) and I was excited! After adventuring to a few other places earlier in the night, I was pumped to end my evening with some live music. Pro Tip: Cash Only! But the drinks were mighty affordable ($11) Arrived here around 11:00 and headed straight to the bar. After getting my drink, I headed for one of the gigantic booths. One thing about me, I LOVE A GIGANTIC BOOTH. Although I was riding solo, I can totally see myself here on a date, simultaneously snuggling with a lover and grooving to music. The music was great! Luis Bonilla + Friends played the house down and I loved the energy in the place. Everyone was having a great time! I loved my little visit to The Barkley! I love coming up to Pasadena to listen to good music, The Barkley just gives me another excuse to keep coming back!

Happy hour well drink (gin and tonic) and happy hour nachos (no meat)

Ask the Community - The Barkley Restaurant & Bar

Do they have an ATM in the bar?

Yes they have an ATM at bar. There are also several bank atm just up the street on Fair Oaks Blvd

Does the Barkley accept credit cards?

No. They are living firmly in the decade the restaurant was last decorated.

Do they still charge for seating and price increase on drinks during live entertainment?

Tables are for people that order food/drinks. There is an upcharge for drinks during live events except comedy. On the plus side, they do pay the bands and there is no cover charge.

OK, so YELP didn't like my original question so I will re-phrase it because it was removed. Do you like the staff and management at the Barkley? How would you rate them?

    0 scary. Stay away.

    Live music tonight?

Yes. Live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

I was pleasantly surprised at the welcoming staff and warm ambiance. Going to slide one complaint in here, the noise level in the upstairs portion of the restaurant is LOUD. We sat upstairs and it was pretty difficult to hear my friends talk from just across the table. We powered through, and by the second half of our meal, most diners had finished and left us upstairs with only a couple of lingering parties. THEN this place became GREAT! Here's all that we stuffed ourselves with during the cacophony of chatter: flaky buttermilk biscuits, honey butter (3pc; please allow 20 minutes) - totally worth the 20 mins!! Super buttery and flaky, I might go back JUST FOR THIS! crispy calamari, horseradish cocktail sauce - great little kick in the sauce. Perfectly lightly battered. fideos, clams, chorizo, saffron, sweet sherry aïoli - mmmm, this was delicious. The Spanish chorizo enhanced the broth with a good saltiness. white shrimp from the griddle, aïoli - this was my favorite. The shrimp was not overcooked and peeled easily. The flavor was good enough to slurp the juices out. single burger, prime chuck, tillamook cheddar, dijonaise, egg brioche bun & crispy french fries - good meaty burger, love the dijonaise, GREAT shoestring fries. Parking is a little challenging during the day, not so bad in the evening. It's South Pas, a little neighborhood walk after dinner never hurts.

Food here is very safe, trite, hackneyed California cuisine beaten to death like a worn out horse. It's not really bad and not very good offending no one, but food that is boring and not particularly drop dead flavourful. I wasn't super hungry and decided to order more of the sides. 1) French Fries with some skin on, looking rustic, had a touch of that ineffable earthy potato flavour. Asked for extra crispy, but just got a bit crispy so their default fries must be rather limp. Standard ketchup in a steel ramekin. 2) Roasted Golden Beet & Arrugula Salad had sweet, softer, smooth texture, Arrugula had a fibrous, good green herbal, peanut oil scented flavour. Not too funky, creamy goat cheese. Roasted walnut halves. All napped with a subtle Champagne Vinaigrette. Portion was about half of what would be expected in other comparable restaurants. 3) Bread Pudding: The bread was spongy, moist, eggy almost like a flan but lacked a deeper dairy, milkiness as well as lack of hints of warm spices such as cinnamon, allspice, ginger, cloves. Bland would describe the general overall flavour. Topped with cream rich ice cream. Scattering of blueberry, blackberry, strawberry. At home, I drizzled on Grand Marnier for more citrus cognac aromatics. 1-3a) Iced Tea The food here seems to be the Midwest version of what California cuisine should be. Middle of the road, steady as she goes, don't rock the boat. Our waitress was efficient, helpful, thoughtful in a business-like manner which facilitated our group of 8. The male helper with a moustache and the inked hand was great at keeping our glasses topped off. 3 stars for a safe, not overly effusive food that does not offend. The outdoor optics holds the charm and strength of this restaurant.

Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

Come here for the drinks, vibes and brunch…read more Their breakfast options are better than their dinner service. I can't eat here for dinner as a vegetarian, they have little to no options. Would it kill them to add a veggie burger? Service is consistently awful. I've been here half a dozen times and I've never had good service. Drinks and water are never refilled unless I ask. It takes forever to get our order and once we do our server disappears. Seriously so bad. But I keep coming back for their good food.
