MINUS-5 Star rating... but forced to give 1-Star. Absolutely THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE we have ever had... EVER... PERIOD. The food was ADEQUATE at best... service was AWFUL. Extremely slow, impolite (staff avoids eye contact because service was so slow), and seemingly uncaring staff. Sad... because we wanted to support a local business (especially since it's location is away from the circle and nearby our home). And, we were looking for a nice place to call our regular spot. We were patient and polite... but it was apparent real soon that the staff was overwhelmed and/or didn't care. It appears they didn't care. Wasted $51 and over an hour of my life. read more

The place is just okay in pretty much every sense of the term. The drinks are just okay. The food is just okay. The atmosphere is just okay. The service is the only thing that's not just okay. Sometimes the service is solid; friendly, prompt, attentive, etc. But then sometimes the service is a slog; unfriendly, uncaring, uninterested, etc. And pray that you're never here during a shift change, or you'll have to sit around and be ignored for twenty-plus minutes, while the off-shift bartender goes through her tickets, counting all the nickles and dimes in the cash drawer, and the on-shift bartender goes through texts on her phone, because apparently she doesn't feel like working until the off-shift bartender finally counts that last penny in the till. I actually walked out during my visit, because it eventually became clear that these "bartenders" (I use that term loosely) wouldn't even clear the empty plate or glass in front of me, until their so-called shifts finally changed over. The first bartender is honestly lucky that I tipped at all. In hindsight, I would've kept my five bucks, and gone to some other place that might actually appreciate my business. Let's start with the good. Everyone in my group of 7 enjoyed their drinks as well as their food. Everyone ordered something different so we got a good sampling of the menu. Not much on tap but they do have a large selection of bottles/cans. The bad...the service. We were there on a Monday evening and there were probably 20ish customers total in the place. There was 1 person tending the bar, making drinks, and waiting all of the tables. Not sure if this is normal or not. We waited an hour to put a food order in. Some at the table were pretty much done with their food before others even got their's. Looking at the other reviews this doesn't appear to be the norm but it turned out to be a not so great experience for us. read more

Great place! What I liked most about my visit, was the bartender was knowledgeable as fuck about everything on the menus and was extremly flexible and accommodating to all types of customers. We sat down at 2pm and ordered simple wrap, grilled cheese sliders,burger and chicken sandwich it took 1 hr and 15 mins had to continue to get up and ask refills for drinks and napkins and sauces! Ketchup was gone on many tables. One waitress who seemed very stressed. All the customers seem agitated as well! Also got a rail charge of $5 each drink we ordered for the mixer! Today was my first day at The Barrel Room. I had been reading about it and looking at the menu so now time to try it. EXCELLENT! I will definitely be coming back. The food was so delicious and fresh, amazing. We had fried dill spears, pork nachos, a Cuban wrap and a chicken bacon ranch wrap. They were each so very good. Of course we could not eat it all, which we knew when we ordered. Colin came over and helped us pack it all and we had the leftovers for dinner and they were just as delicious We will be back. Traveling from out of town for work and our hotel had a coupon for this place so a co worker and I decided to try. The place is small but had a good beer selection, however the service was absolutely horrible. When we first sat down, we were the only table but the place filled up quickly. The server was polite but didn't tell us the plates were more of a small plate size. When we realized we wanted to order more, the waitress seemed to be MIA. Actually, she was busy stopping at every other table except ours. And when I looked around, all the servers were standing behind the bar. I also noticed the two women at the next table had been sitting for a while and no drinks or anything. I struck up a conversation and they said they had been seated for about 15 minutes but not a single server had even looked in their direction. They said they were contemplating just leaving. About that time our server approached their table without a care in the world. Clearly oblivious to her own poor customer service/serving skills. She took the ladies drink order and without a glance in our direction, she ran off. By now, all we wanted to do is pay, get out, and get a snack somewhere else. I'm sure we could have just walked out of the place without anyone noticing. But we are not that type of customer. I would say we waited for someone to show up at our table for 15-20 min. Our plates were long cleaned and our beer glasses empty for too long. The manager was nice but seemed so surprised that our service had been so bad. She graciously gave a discount on our meals and offered a free dessert which we declined. The kitchen is accommodating, the burger is the best in town, and the staff is highly knowledgable about the beer/drinks offered. I had skewered this place previously due to an embarrassing array of problems. I swore never to return. Then, it came under new management and I was convinced to give it another chance. Glad I did. Pours are to standard, which is a refreshing change. Beer selection has grown significantly, and for the size of the place, is actually kind of impressive. Price points match the market, whereas before they were 20% higher. Whiskey selection is ample, and they have a few spirits you can't find in every bar. Service has improved precipitously. Children not allowed: I was meeting some army spouse friends for dinner/drinks to discuss army related stuff. I have a 4 month old infant who is breastfeeding so I brought him in his carseat. Right when I walked in, I was approached by a server who told me that due to their liquor license they could not have anyone under the age of 19 in the restaurant, which would include my infant (I have lived in 5 states and have never heard such a thing. plenty of places serve liquor and allow children to eat at the restaurant...maybe it's an Alabama law?). I understand that they have the right to rules in their establishment and that their hands were tied but they might want to put that on their website so that people are aware and not have to turn around with an infant in tow....lost me as a customer..... read more

"Fine Beer" consists of 7 or so different common draft beers but they usually pick some good ones. 3 out of 4 times I've gone the female servers messed up my bill and the 10$ burger is something you'd buy at a concession stand. This foodie dreamscape is hugely underrated. Hands down, The Barrel Room provides the best food and atmosphere in the Wiregrass area. From handcrafted original cocktails to cleverly twisted American bar fare that were created with with some southern love. Whether it's brunch on Saturday morning (I recommend the grilled cheese) or drinks and some food before a night out (looking at you Banana's), The Barrel Room will always provide a cool glass and a warm meal.
