OMG, I shouldn't have left my pup there! I had a bad vibe already when we walked in. First he doesn't speak much English so it was hard to communicate. Second, as soon as we got there he wanted to check if our pup had any matting. Instead of trying to warm up to the pup, he quickly approached him with scissor in his hand. He freaked us out so bad. Our pup was going crazy. I almost wanted to leave, but felt bad. Our pup needed a cut bad and it was close to home. When I picked up our pup, he was so shaken! I just didn't have a good feeling of this place. Plus the cut was awful. Uneven edges and the cut was so short! :( read more

Today was the first time I brought my 2 dogs to this place. Easy to schedule an appointment. The owner seems like a pretty nice gentleman. When I returned a few hours later, I was quite pleased with the grooming jobs he did with my pom & terrier. I will definitely use him as my groomer as long as I have dogs. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a very good groomer. I believe his facility can only handle small dogs. read more

It's rare for me to get a day off during the weekday. i finally got a thursday off and decided to run my errands and take my chihuahua mix Dookie for a bath. I usually go to petsmart or petco but they were booked and have no wiggle room for me. Yelped a placed and found this place! I called him around 1pm and we was able to take me as soon as 2pm. Couldn't find the place initially since it was tucked away, but i found it right next to the barber shop. The place looked kind of sketch, and very small, but don't judge a book by it's cover. I told him I just need him to be bathed, with his paws trims, and his fur brushed. He did more than that. He cleaned his ears, trimmed the fur near his privates.(If people are curious he received the Brazilian cut..haha) and cleaned his anal glands. He was very nice and very accommodating. Took around 30 minutes and when i got there, Dookie was already at the door waiting for me. If he was happy, I'm happy! For those who are lazy to read: Bath, Ears cleaned, anal glands cleaned, paws trimmed, underbody trimmed, and brushed for $30 not including tip. Price may vary. I chopped it up with him in chinese and maybe it bought me a cheaper quote. I highly recommend him, and i think i'll be a regular here. read more

Been here many times, only one man works here but he was very nice and polite. He takes his time to cut my babies haircut! Every time we come here, we are pretty satisfied! We went to the one in west portal with a four and half star rating, their stylist mess up my babies haircut and the price is not worth that price! read more

I came here after hearing fellow yelpers rave about how great Chui is! He is a pretty cool guy but not the most consistent. The first time, I brought one dog to have grooming done; my little girl. She is a small Yorkie, very manageable and sweet. She came back looking fabulous and cute as a button! I was lovin' his style. When I came to pick her up, she smelled wonderful. Chui allowed me to inspect her for any minor imperfections and he even fixed up the spots that I didn't like. He did his best to make her haircut up to par with my standards. I thought that was really great and thoughtful of him! He seems to care about even the smallest details! He charged a good price too! Then the second time, I brought two dogs. My little girl and my sister's little boy, both small yorkies (3-4 pounds each). This time, the little boy came out decent but my little girl's hair cut wasn't as good. Her nails weren't trimmed short enough and her face was a little lop-sided. I wasn't too happy about that but hair will grow back so I wasn't too upset, I thought it could be fixed next time. I came around yet a third time hoping for the best, but this time with three dogs!! My sister's 15 pound mutt, her little yorkie boy and my little yorkie girl. I walked them all across the park, trekking through the neighborhood and finally arrived at his door. He wasn't there. We came early but we still ended up waiting outside his door for a good 10-15 minutes. He was nice and courteous..but I guess because there were three dogs, he got kind of frazzled. He confused the specific instructions for the three dogs, missed my little girl's nail trimming again, and messed up more than the haircut. I didn't have time to do a detailed inspection this time upon pick up b/c all three dogs were clamoring to get out so I just paid and left. When I got home, I noticed that all three dogs had some major razor burns on their undersides (bellies) and their paws weren't trimmed to a clean cut as requested. My little girl's hair was uneven everywhere and what's worse was the razor burn on her chest. I can live with a bad haircut because hair grows back but razor burns on sensitive areas of my dog is a no-no. All three dogs were licking their wounds constantly. They were still slipping and sliding on the hardwood floor because their paws weren't trimmed to a clean cut, like they never got a hair cut. I was really disappointed with this grooming trip and will probably not come back again. I suppose, if you just have one dog and don't mind taking the risk of her getting a razor burn (if he's busy that day)...then by all means take that risk. Like I said, he's not the most consistent so who knows! He may do a good job like the first time! He only charged $35 for each yorkie because they were small dogs, and $45 for the 15 pound mutt (yorkie/pomeranian). He has really good prices for dog grooming but he also doesn't clean ears. I think he only bathes and cuts their hair. I feel bad for not giving him a 4-5 stars because he was a really nice fellow but he messed up pretty badly the last time i went so I have to be fair. Two out of three times, I wasn't thrilled so I had to dock points for inconsistency. His prices are great! location is good! very nice guy but beware of mis-communication. He said he understood and knows what I want but it didn't show in the end. He kept saying "i know, i know.." but he wasn't listening. read more

My dog looks and smells good! I'm very satisfied with bringing him to Mr. Chiu. It wasn't hard to make an appointment and no wait at all. When I dropped off my pup, he was put into a cage, which I doubt he kept him in there for long. I explained to him what specific cut I would like and he totally understood what I wanted. 2 hours later.. My baby looked like a cute little bear!! He even gave me advice on how to brush my dog's fur properly (apparently my dog's rear end fur was getting matted). However... when I was showing off to my friends how beautiful and cute he looked... I noticed that they messed up and shaved his underside to the skin and had some razor burns.. it would of been nice for him to let me know what happened. Well now I know to thoroughly inspect my pup before we leave Mr. Chui next time. read more

I decided very last minute that my shih tzus needed to get groomed. It normally takes me at least 2 months to book an appointment with our usual groomery. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised when The Bathing Dog was able to accommodate my dogs the very next day (Saturday). Though there was a language barrier, I trusted the groomer to just do his thing. One dog turned out great, and the other not so great as I felt that he rushed the job. He did take care of the little details like pulling the hairs growing inside the ears, nail trimmings and cleaning up the paws. I thought the price was ok ($50). It is a bit higher than my normal groomer, but I would come back if I needed a last minute dog grooming. read more

Mr. Chiu (sp?) does an excellent job of handling and cutting my Maltese's hair. My dog gets really anxious and nervous. Most groomers have a very difficult time with him, but not Mr. Chiu. He's really patient and understanding. He not only cuts my dog's hair, but also clips his nails and cleans his ears. Overall, a fantastic job! I can even call ahead of time to make appointments and he's pretty flexible when it comes to time. read more

I am a Sunset district resident and happened upon The Bathing Dog. It is a no frills, no pretentiousness shop. I love it. I am sick of the We are Special and Entitled People. I did not smell smoke as noted by the other review and I only needed a shampoo and nail cutting. I have so far been there twice and they do a wonderful job. I will continue to go back. I observed a large German Shepard being groomed prior to my dog and the owners were very happy.It is a shop that gets the job done and not being full of themselves. By the way I don't speak Cantonese nor Mandarin and was able to communicate. I also had simple needs. They were courteous to me and my pooch. read more

If I could I would give him zero stars doesn't even deserve one. Honestly the worst. Made my little toy maltese hair uneven. And just made him cry throughout the process while complaining that he couldn't cut this or that because my dog was moving too much. On top of that he said that our demands were too high, but for $55 dollars then our demands better be high. My little dogs face looks the same but his body and legs and arms look like a ugly choppy mess now. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. I have a poodle-bichon mix with a thick coat. I brush her regularly. Last week Mr. Chiu must have been in a big rush. He completely shaved her and took off plenty of skin under both front arm pits. She is bleeding. He charged me $60 for this. Spare your pet, yourself, and your bank book and go somewhere else. read more

Also I called today and got my maltese in right away. His prices are very reasonable and he did not want to take a tip. I highly recommend this place. read more
