Not balanced at all, wither too sour or too sweet, drinks are too watered down (too big for the amount of alcohol). This is my favorite beach bar in Waikiki. There is a huge banyan tree in the middle of the patio and you can watch surfers off Waikiki Beach. The food was not very good and everything was expensive, but the views make it worth the price. read more

This bar was one of our favorites in Waikiki. The drinks are delicious (we especially liked the lava flows!) and the food was *chefs kiss* heavenly. Our favorite dishes were the poke nachos, the onion rings, and the garlic edamame. Portions are large and the food is heavy, so don't over order! Also, the views and ambiance are all anyone could ask for with the bright turquoise waves and Diamond Head in the background. Plus they have a musician that plays at 5pm. We were told he is related to Bruno Mars (ha - strong maybe!). This is a good place to come for the sunset or for a relaxing afternoon with good drinks, good food, and friendly service. I really like the view from the beach bar. There is a beautiful outdoor patio that you can enjoy. The boyfriend wanted to get drinks and I was excited because there was a big crowd. If you've never been to Waikiki, HI, The Beach Bar is somewhat reminiscent of a bar you'd see in an ocean / beach related movie; Women dancing in hula skirts, palm trees swaying to the sound of ocean waves, Hawaiian shirts and cargo shorts around every corner, luminescent hanging lights, lit bamboo torches, roaring fire pits, folks sippin' on Mai Tai's with them colorful umbrella tooth-picks, the gleeful strums of ukulele's and a gorgeous sunset glimmering along the ocean's gentle surface. Be forewarned - The Beach Bar is a seat yourself establishment. Naturally, most folks aim to sit along the sand towards the ocean where you'll get a magnificent view of beach goers, surfers, boats and dependent on the time you show up - a breathtaking sunset that will have you speechless. Be prepared to have multiple folks ONLY looking for these seats - if you don't sit here, it's not the end of the world. The entire bar is basically ON the beach and your opportunity to feel and see these sights should not be deterred. We were lucky enough to have eagle-eyed a seat nestled within this most desired section where we had the ability to openly catch an astounding display of natural wonders presented by Mother Nature herself, often taken for granted. I've never been in a situation where the sun presented itself in such a manner where all the lighting was perfect and matched with flawless weather. This was seriously out of a love story, being here with my girlfriend and all. We both didn't know how to respond to such a moment other than to firmly hold each other within one another's arms and watch the sun tuck itself into the Pacific. It was one of those 'Real' moments, if you feel me. One of those, "Wow, this is what happiness is and how you're supposed to feel in life" moments. *If you DO have a seat in the section closest to the sand, people WILL leave there seats to snap shots of the visuals placed before us along with photos of themselves in front of this sunset. Don't let it bother you and don't be shy, either. You CAN ask a waiter, bartender or even fellow tourist / patron to take a pic of you and your loved ones. To top this glorious moment off we were graced with a performance by an elegant hula dancer equipped with a hula skirt, coconut top and flower headband that was accompanied with a joyful two man Island band! Exuberant music began that was both soothing and alluring to our ears. They played songs I heard the first time I visited Hawaii as a child along with hits from the 80's, 90's and today that was meshed together in their own sunny Island flair. It was a mixture of upbeat, toe tappin' and serenading. It doesn't have to be here, but if you have an opportunity to see a performance as such next to the ocean, at night, the day becomes that much more enjoyable and exciting. There's nothing like a true local performance where these talented performers take genuine pride in their culture and present it to us in song and dance. The Mai Tai's were overpowered with rum, served in a plastic cup and had a relatively high price tag for the lackluster presentation and true Mai Tai taste. I won't lie, I enjoyed the fact that the rum to fruit juice mix ratio was in rums favor. I didn't, however, like the fact that it tasted like drinking straight shots of rum with hints of pineapple. What helped, as a chaser, were their aioli truffle fries - Crispy and salted to perfection, they were out of this world and just the right snack before dinner elsewhere. Our service was on point, too, despite the number of hands flagging our waitress down and asking her questions with over-extended time lengths. She checked on us frequently and was gracious enough to offer to take our pictures during sunset without us asking! She did it all with a true smile and presented us with authentic Island Hospitality. The Beach bar, in my opinion, is a fine line between a 4.5 / 5. I went with 5 due to everything falling into place without us really planning this visit out. We didn't struggle finding the perfect seat, we had a great appetizer, decent drinks, on point service and an outstanding view with a cheerful performance - our overall experience was both enjoyable and worthwhile! read more

This is the BEST beach bar ever. Not only is it located right on the beach, you also get a view of the beautiful banyan tree, while you listen to GREAT live music! The service is exceptional, too. We didn't get to try any of their food, but we did order some drinks--THE best Pina Colada is located here. I wish I drank more of it before I left. It doesn't taste artificial at all... The Mai Tai was great too and it comes in a souvenir cup :) There was also another drink that was similar to a Mai Tai, that was incredible as well. I miss this place... The menu is a joke with very few options and also poorly executed. They shouldn't even put the guacamole they likely squeezed out of a bag on a plate. I like the beach bar because the moana surf rider hotel is the perfect combination of being both classy and casual. I like the antique feel of the hotel and that he bar is situated under the huge banyan tree. It is a perfect place to grab a drink at sunset and there is often live music! The service is incredibly fast, even when it seems to be very busy and the waiters are both knowledgeable and friendly. For drinks, I really recommend the mai tais, which are super strong. I tried a sip of their featured alcoholic smoothie drink and it was way too sweet for me. You're much better off with a mai tai. I also tried the ahi poke, which comes with quacamole, root vegetable chips and soy beans. It was kind of a weird and unexpected combination of things, but I enjoyed it. I also liked the ahi poke nachos. The "nachos" are made from won ton chips and it is also topped with guacamole. For $20, I could get two orders of poke nachos somewhere else. When I first walked in, I was blown away by the view that it offers. The beach bar is right off of the Beach. No you can't swim up an order a drink but you can certainly walk off the beach and do so. All the tables were full around 6:30p but I got lucky with a single stool opening up at the bar. This was around sunset so I was not surprised with the business; the bar is right next to the beach with a great view. After finding a seat I was attended to fairly quickly and had a local beer and ordered the surfrider burger. The burger came out within 5 minutes and was cooked to my preference. I was shocked at how fast it came out due to it being fairly busy. Now I did not expect there to be bacon on the burger because it was not in the description so I had to remove the bacon, no big deal. The fries and burger were good fast food but nothing incredible. This is a beach bar inside Moana Surfrider Hotel. You can enter through the hotel and it's located on the beach side. Parking is valet. You can sit yourself to any open area. In the past, I've gotten pina cola here. It's probably the most expensive pina cola that I know. It's $12 but it was the best pina cola and the only place I would get. Well, my recent visit wasn't so much. I could taste the ice chunks and I couldn't taste any alcohol. What happened? Maybe inflation did it. It's a nice to place to hangout.
