Agree with many of these reviews. Beach House has amazing sunset views and grabbing a table by the window is super beautiful as the sun sets. Definitely a great place to get a cocktail and pic at sunset. The downside is that the food is really expensive and the portions are not only small, but not that good. We are usually still hungry afterward! We've been here several times on annual trips to Kauai and it's sadly just not worth the price or hassle. read more

Came in here twice while on our vacation here in Poipu. Just for pupus and mai tais during happy hour. Their mai tais (being of the Monkeypod restaurant family) are just the best! At $20 a pop though, you have to come during HH to save a few bucks. The HH menu is not as large as that of a Monkeypod, but the food was good and servings were large enough. Wish they had pizza here too! The omao salad with goat cheese is super delicious. Our first night was the best, because our server (cannot remember her name, sorry) was just very friendly and helpful. Kept stopping by to chat and see how we were doing, what we were up to on the island, etc. The second night, our server was nowhere to be found, no conversation, no help, no fun. Seemed to be perturbed that we were there only for HH and when I said no to his asking if we wanted chicken on our salads for $12 more. read more

Huge panoramic views of the ocean, but this is one of those spots that's lazy with taste because they know people will come in for the views. Our waitress wasn't the most friendly either - all in all just an ok experience with a big bill at the end $$$$. Our family of nine (children and teenage grandkids) had a fabulous lunch on Christmas Day. We were seated at a table next to the windows facing the ocean. Our server Nate was so great with everyone at the table. Drinks, appetizers and our main meals were all perfect. The prices like most everything on the isalnads are expensive. But you go to Hawaii knowing that fact and you just have to enjoy the company and beautiful surroundings. Valet service was also good. Impossibly noisy. Tables sticky like an inner city dive. Bread was dry and tasteless. Prices have skyrocketed. We stuck with the appetizer menu and a salad. My Cesar salad at Red Salt was 10x better than the pedestrian one at Beach House. Tables packed so close it's impossible to navigate the restaurant. Server stacked other people's dirty dishes on my plate in front of me then gathered the whole stack to haul away. The focus is clearly on turning tables as fast as possible. There is so much demand for their sunset location they just don't care about customers and are focused on maximizing profit. Valet is added cost (free at Red Salt). Let me be clear.... We can afford this place but why overspend on overpriced mediocre food. The topper was the 4% surcharge on the ticket for the staff. BULLSHIT. Be honest about it and your skyrocketing prices. We have been eating here every year for the last 11 years we have been coming to Kauai. It is typically a celebration of my birthday. It is pretty certain we will not be back. The food was less than desirable. Hubby ordered the Hawaiian catch of the day, which was Mahi, Mahi. The fish was over cooked, the rice was bland with absolutely no flavor and the veggies had no flavor. I ordered the Ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes w/ veggies. The Ahi was actually cooked perfect and the sauce was flavorful. The broccoli was cold and not even remotely cooked. The wasabi mashed potatoes were cold. What used to be one of our spots we looked forward to going to. Is no longer and we will definitely not be returning. In addition, knowing it was my birthday celebration they sat us in what was probably the worse 2 top table in the house. (That table should not be used till the sun sets!!!) Let me start with the 3 stars is for the food, the service and our server were 8 stars out of 5!!! More on that later. The wife and the friends were on Kauai for a week and staying in a timeshare, we had access to cook and grill dinners which we really like to do. We did want to try a nice restaurant while on the island and the wife made reservations a while back whenever it opened up for a date and time we were on the island. We were staying in Poipu and The Beach House was only a 10 minute drive away. We did try to get an Uber, but we were in the off season and the front desk told us it was hard to get an Uber any time, but especially between the busy seasons. We ended up driving and it was very close, so no issues. The restaurant was bustling and the valet parking was jammed, but they cleared it quickly and took our car. Valet was very nice and friendly. Valet parking was $5, the best deal on the island for our entire stay! We arrived at 5:15pm. We stepped up to the hostess stand to announce our arrival and our reservation time of 5:30pm. We were a bit early and they said it would be a few minutes so we headed to the bar. Before we could order drinks, we got the text that our table was ready so we made a u-turn and were quickly seated by a nice hostess. Not long after we sat down what I thought was a manager came to our table greeted us cheerfully and took our drink orders. The drinks were delivered by a drink server and they came quickly which was a nice surprise since the place was packed. Nice work bartenders! The person I thought was a manager came back and introduced herself as Christie (spelling?) and she was our server for the evening. Christie was great, as were any staff we dealt with during our time there. Again, 8+ (out of 5, HA!) stars for Christie and all of the staff. Christie lead us through the appetizer choices and we selected the Lobster Deviled Eggs and the Green Beans. Again, these came out in record time. We did not feel rushed at any point, especially by Christie, but things moved quickly around there. Drinks, food, etc... The Lobster Deviled Eggs we a rousing "OK". I like deviled eggs and the wife and I make them sometimes when we have people over. I like to make them with pickled eggs for more of a zing. These were very basic hard boiled eggs with the yokes mashed up but no particular flavor or spice. They did indeed come with some lobster meat that was also OK. I would not order this again as it was not anything special. The stir fried reen beans were in a delicious sauce. Kind of an unusual appetizer, but I would suggest it as it was one of the top things I ate at The Beach House. We ate up the entire plate. While eating our apps, Christie gave us an overview of the entree choices and the special. The entree choices are very limited, but that was OK with me as I wanted seafood and they had several yummy sounding choices available. I chose the Lobster & Fish Pasta, the wife chose the Macadamia Crusted Fresh Catch (can't remember the fish name, started with an M) and the friends both had the Seared Ahi Steak, the number one recommendation by Christie. It seemed like Christie walked into the kitchen and the servers walked out with our food. Boom, we had food in front of us. Like I said earlier, we did not feel rushed by anyone, but things moved quickly once the orders were placed. My pasta was all-in-all very good. The high points were the delicious sauce, the nicely cooked pasta and the perfectly cooked fish. The dish had mahi-mahi and the unknown catch of the day that started with an M. All that was very good and I tried to eat it all but became too full to finish all of the pasta. The low point was the 1/2 lobster on the top of the pasta. It was much smaller than I expected and unfortunately it was pretty dry. I tried to cut it up to mix in with the great sauce and pasta, but the damn thing was impossible to cut through. I ended up shredding it a bit so I didn't have to put the whole tail meat section in my mouth. A bit disappointing. The wife gave her fresh catch meal an "it was OK" review. The fish was nicely cooked, but not anything special. The friends' seared ahi steak was perfectly seared, a beautiful shade of red and since they gave me a chunk to try I can confirm it was delicious. The friend does not really like broccolini and was expecting the broccoli listed in the menu. Also, they would have preferred rice instead of the wasabi mashed potatoes. The sauce Maui onion sauce was "interesting". The ahi was the highlight for their meal. For dessert we all shared an order of the coconut crème brûlée. It was another "just OK." The sunset? The Service? 8 to 10 out of 5 stars! The food? It was OK and it was expensive. Go here for the service and the sunset. Maybe a cocktail and appetizer watching the sunset. Wish the food was better. Bottom line: Take out a home equity loan before you come, pick up your favorite fast food on the way so you can have something to eat after your dinner here. Positives: Very open, beach front ambience (if you get there before dark otherwise forget it). Service decent. Negs: No way around it, this place is ridiculously just way outa line priced for the just ok quality and quantity of what you are very sparingly served. After waiting an hour and a half to be seated (with a reservation) and $50 in at the bar, we were finally seated at nearly 9pm with many apologies. I had the lobster bisque, a few spoonfuls at 23 bucks, seared ahi barely there steak at a cool 53 bucks without even thinking about $15 glasses of regler ole table wine. I'm amazed this place makes it but it has to be on the promise of the South Island ocean front location and view and for some that may value exclusivity over quality of dining experience. I find it hard to even go on about this place as it is so uninspiring; however, you owe it to yourself to try it and form your own opinion. read more

The service was very good. We had reservations and were promptly seated. The fresh table focaccia was delicious and I enjoyed the pepper infused olive oil that came with it. The big pull here was the Mai tai and we were not disappointed. I'd say ditch the straw and drink it from the glass because you want that delicious foam in every sip. It's sweet and tart and is the star of the cocktail. I had 3 and they all came very quickly and were consistent. We ordered a few things off the menu and the showstoppers for us were the crab cakes. They were chock full of meat and the aioli and marinated citrus that came with them made for perfect bites. We also really enjoyed the Asian macadamia nut green beans and the macadamia crusted fish. The jasmine rice side was actually good enough that's it's worth mentioning. The cucumber salad was the only item I probably wouldn't order again. It was seasoned well but the execution missed the mark. This restaurant is always really busy, easy to get reservations for late afternoon or evening but very hard to get one around 6pm when the sunset. It is located right on the beach so understandable that the sunset time is prized by many. We were conflicted due to the overall reviews score on Yelp but after looking at the menu we decided to try it for ourselves. The check in process was a bit chaotic, we showed up at the side entrance and the greeter told us to go to the main entrance to see the hostess and get seated. Once we got the main entrance we were told to go back where we came from because we had a "bar seating with ocean view" and the other hostess were supposed to seat us. Okay... wasn't fun to get passed around like that but no big deal we weren't going to let this ruin our evening. We started with their famous Mai Tai with the lilikoi foam, delicious drinks! For appetizer we got the lobsters deviled eggs, they were really tasty! Our main courses were a seared ahi steak with jalapeño mashed potatoes, and a Mac nut crusted fresh Hawaiian catch which that day was Opah. The seared ahi was perfectly cooked, quick sear on the outside and raw, melting in your mouth just like sashimi or poke in the center. The Mac nut crusted fish was great, flaky and flavorful. For dessert we got a Lemon semolina cake with housemade lilikoi whip cream, a real treat! This was one of the best meal we had on Kaua'i. We only wished we could have been at this restaurant during sunset to enjoy the beautiful views. Otherwise the meal was really delicious! So I was like ok and got up 20 min later all three table were still empty I went to the bar to get a drink and the bar tender was I can't help you please see the other tender mind you there was like 4 behind the bar and I was at an empty place at the bar. I was a little nervous going in because of the reviews but I have to say it was actually fantastic. Our reservation was at 7:30 but we came an hour early to take sunset photos which was perfect and after the photos while waiting for our table we were about to easily grab drinks at the bar and hang out on the greenery with the beach view. When we sat down Raina was our server and I have to say she absolutely made our experience even better than we could have hoped she was absolutely fantastic, upbeat and very knowledgeable about the menu. We had the coconut shrimp appetizer which was different than the deep fried appetizer most of us are used to, it was sautéed in a very yummy Thai coconut curry type sauce and delicious, I got the fish and lobster pasta and my husband got the macadamia crusted fresh catch and both were very flavorful and delicious. We made a family dinner reservation here since the space was able to accommodate a large group. Great views with an ocean outlook, The Beach House has a great scenic atmosphere. The menu was very limited which typically isn't an issue on my end, but here I feel like there weren't enough options for main dishes. Service was friendly but they mistakenly took a wrong order and had to correct it later. Unfortunately this is a restaurant that is more about the views than the food, with prices that are not justifiable with the quality of food we got. I got the Seared Fresh Fish & Kauai Shrimp dish (fish of the day was Mahi Mahi). I like how the change up the fish based on the catch of the day. The fish and shrimp were cooked nicely. However the gnocchi was flavorless and ended up being just balls of dough. The tomato-esque sauce for the dish was also not great. It had a watery texture and not much flavor. Very disappointing for a $50 dish. And that's where my biggest complaint of The Beach House comes from. When the prices are what they are, then a certain level of expectation I think is fair on the end of the customer. And here they were not met. read more

My family and I had dinner here tonight, and I honestly can't say enough good things about the experience. We brought our 9-month-old son, and the staff treated him like one of their own--entertaining him, making him laugh, and just being incredibly warm and welcoming. The service was absolutely impeccable, and the food was phenomenal. We ordered the coconut shrimp, mahi mahi, and the fish and lobster pasta--every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. It is a kitschy touristy restaurant, but definitely would not come unless you had a sunset reservation. Our server was great and we had a wonderful table, but the hype is for the ambiance/view only. Two friends took me out for my 90th birthday The best thing about the beach house is its view. We watched a man surfing with his daughter in front of the board. She looked about five years old Would surf out with him, drop into the water, and climb up again. Just remarkable. The food was fine. Very pricey of course. We had the crab croquettes as a puu puu. Only two for the three of us. Ned had the fancy mai tai with the lilikoi foam. I would get that if I were ever to go again. The focaccia was very good. A little balsamic in the olive oil would be a good addition. Ned and Ed had the seared ahi. Unfortunately, this visit was a huge letdown. The service was just okay, but the food was honestly disappointing. Our appetizers arrived nearly cold, and both entrées were lukewarm. My fish was overcooked and dry, and the macadamia-nut-crusted fish had huge chunks of macadamia nuts -- like pea-sized pieces -- that made it really unpleasant to eat. I scrapped it off. We had also requested a window table for our anniversary, but were seated in the back with no view, despite making reservations well in advance. For the high price point, I expected a much better experience. Sadly, it feels like this place has gone really downhill since our last visit.
