I have worked in many foodservice establishments in my life, and floored is an understatement!! Lobster bisque (terrible) lobster roll (mayo based, just ok, mostly baguette) crab cakes (very good, but the sauce just so so for my liking) gorgonzola salad (good) filet (very good) 4 desserts all ok, BUT the s'mores one was AWESOME. Here's the kicker!!! My friend added a lobster tail for $32 that was the worst lobster tail that WE have EVER tasted!! I have worked in a seafood restaurant and have eaten a lot of seafood and lobster in my day! They grilled the lobster & it must have gotten burnt or something, no clue as it didn't look burnt, but the taste was COMPLETE CHAR! So she talked to the OWNER who asked her if she wanted another one and she explained that it would have to be baked instead of grilled. Long story short....,,when the bill came, she was charged for both tails!!! After telling the owner how wrong that was, the owner just kept saying she would have to pay for both. She did finally end up taking $16 off her bill, but the lack of communication is the part that just floored me! I mean tell the customer if you are going to double charge them to replace the item! Who does that?!? Usually the item is either replaced or simply taken off the bill. Had the owner explained, my friend would have just requested that she take the original lobster tail off her bill instead. The lack of EMPATHY though, is what really floored me the most!!!!!! Between the 3 of us foodies, our 5 drinks, & tips, we spent around $332. Not a way to treat these types of customers, but definitely a way to leave a LASTING impression!!!! I drove an hour with my husband and our friends for my Birthday dinner celebration. We were greeted at the door by a red haired hostess (sorry I'm not good with names). She was very friendly and welcoming. We were seated immediately and greeted by our waitress in the same welcoming manner. We ordered lobster tails (amazingly good) halibut and Hawaiian walu (both prepared Caribbean style), bruschetta (best we have EVER had), oyster (delicious) and Brussels sprouts (sweet hot and delicious). All four of us were extremely pleased with everything we had! We highly recommend this restaurant and their exceptional staff!! We went for dinner last night. The restaurant was very busy and all bar stools taken. The owner found a spot for us by the bar until our table was ready. I had the pork shank and it was delicious and huge! Definitely a steal at only around $22-24. It came with 1 side. The sangria was very tasty. Ribeye spring roll appetizer tasted great but I would suggest it comes with 3-4 cut spring rolls instead of the 2. It's delicious but not worth the $12 for only 2 pieces. I'm not a big seafood person but there were a few more chicken meals that sounded delicious so I will be back! read more

The owner is beyond rude!! The only reason it has a one star rating is because I have to mark something. Myself and 2 girlfriends went to dinner here on Friday night. We each had our own ticket for our meals and left a minimum of 20% tip each. Which was $43 total. As we are leaving the owner John stopped one of my friends and starts berating her about her tip!! We were absolutely puzzled and shocked that he would approach her in that manner knowing we all had left a minimum of 20% tip on our bills. We will NEVER step foot back in that restaurant!! Clearly he can't read (or add) a receipt where the tip is included!! read more

I really, really, REALLY love this restaurant. As someone who frequently dines alone, some places put me more at ease than others. This one delivers and then some. They have a really nice bar area where solo diners can sit and enjoy a meal. The last two times or three times I've gone, I've had the oysters menuirre, the lobster roll, and during my latest visit, I really enjoyed the delicious angry mussels. The bread that came with the mussels was phenomenal and was great for dipping. I have yet to have one thing here that has been less than perfect. It's not exactly cheap, but this is a classic case of getting what you pay for. What a gem in such a nice small town! read more

So we had heard good and bad things but decided to try a date night with just my hubby and I. I made an online reservation for 7:15pm. We showed up pretty early and figured we wouldn't get our table yet which was the case so we sat and had a cocktail by the bar. The owner ended up seating us right at 7:15pm and was still apologizing about the wait which we weren't worried about. We waited a bit for our waitress (again we weren't in any hurry) but a bartender came and checked our drinks and got me a refill. Our waitress, Brook, was fantastic! She was so personable and great sense of humor. Our food was sooooo good! I've eaten a lot of salmon but the teriyaki salmon was something I will be craving in the future. My hubby had the seafood pasta and he's particular and he ooed and aaaheed thru the whole meal. We'll be back! read more

We had a fantastic meal at the Beach House last night. Pam, our server, was welcoming, helpful and hilarious. My family likes to share food, and of the 5 dishes we had, it was hard to choose a favorite. The fish is fresh as can be and perfectly prepared. I really liked the chimichuri (with halibut) and the skate wing (in white wine butter sauce). The green beans were surprisingly great (and I love green beans). I am rewriting my review because I mistakenly put it on The Beach House's main page and they deleted it. My husband and I went there last night for my husbands 62nd birthday. We started out with the Oysters Rockefeller 6 for $20, they were good. I ordered the Lobster & Rice $45 and my husband ordered the Salmon Oscar $29; my lobster was so over cooked the lobster stuck to the sides of the shells and was mushy along with the nasty curry rice. My husbands Salmon Oscar was burnt on one side and was also very dry. The green beans were raw and cold. You get nothing like a soup, salad or even bread and butter with your meal. You have all these cooks stepping over each other in a tiny kitchen trying cook and send out the food. I expected more from The Beach House, especially for the prices on their food. If you have a taste for seafood go to the Red Lobster in Peru,IL., you get ALOT more food for 1/2 the price!!! read more

Grandkids split a half pound of grilled shrimp and tots...3 and 5 years old... ate it all. Table had grouper, Amalfi chicken, lobster roll and cioppino. None of these disappointed. My girlfriend and I went here to try it out after trying to get into another restaurant and It actually did not disappoint. First of all, the service was very nice, I will admit. the bartender did look a little bit overworked but he did his job well. The cocktail was a little bit on the stronger side but I don't mind. The waitress was very kind and helpful with teaching us about the special since we never been here. We started out with the crabcake which was actually pretty good. They also gave us a tartar sauce type dip for the crabcake which went with the dish very well. The crabcake itself was very small for the price think they should be a little bit more reasonable with the dish. For myself I got the trout the trout was cooked very well and tasted well like fresh trout. The green beans that came with my meal we're actually a little bit on the mushy side they looked fresh but they tasted like they were out of a can although they weren't that bad. As for the lady she got the Jamaican Rasta pasta, personally I thought the pasta was a little bit mushy, however she thought it was amazing (and she's picky). My meal also came with a homemade coleslaw which was made with a chipotle ranch mayo type sauce which I've never tasted before but it was new different and to die for. Overall this meal for two costed us around $80 I think the prices are fairly high for a Illinois seafood restaurant 400 miles from the nearest coast. Would I visit again. my wife and I went here on 8/6 and we were very exciting. we got there at 4 when they open to beat any crowds. we walked in and people were there already, we approached the host and she said sorry but we are having a private party and we will not be open until 5. that is unacceptable. looking around the party seemed to be in one small area and there were many open tables. what gets me is I was on there website 2 hours before that and not one mention of not opening until 5. so we drove from Sandwich and we were unable to go back an hour later. what the host should have done was asked if we want to sit inside and wait and have some drinks with the understanding we would not be taken care of for our food until 5 which would have been fine. you cant close only maybe 10% of your restaurant and not let other people in without some sort of notice. now with that said we will make the trip back and try the food next week. read more

So we experienced the Beach House this weekend. I must say, I.WILL.NEVER.GO.BACK!! We expected pricey and it was, but it's seafood menu is 6 items. 5 are drenched in coconut, which I despise and the only other choice was 2 small crab cakes for $30. We didn't have a reservation, but after an hour of the host saying 2 minutes, we ate at the bar. (Yuck). He could care less. I ended up with lobster bisque, which should have been lobster broth, because there was no apparent lobster in the small bowl. The only bright spot was the bartender was nice, but overworked. My recommendation, go a block on either side and you will have a much better meal for half the price. read more

What a joke! First time visit, made reservations for Fat Tuesday. A large sign had been placed out front announcing all kinds of goodies to enjoy. For example, alligator caught my eye! Arrived on time, place is packed, had to wait because were told our reservation was given to a walk-in couple. Seated 10 minutes later and perused the menu. Sign out front very misleading! When asked where's the items listed, waitress says 'this is a new menu, I don't even know what we offer.' SERIOUSLY???? So we chose allogator/crab cakes. Two arrived on a plate that were barely 2 inches across in size!!! Ordered fried lobster for main meal. Waited at least 15 minutes to be told they were out of lobster! Second choice was soft-shelled crab ettouffe. It was like deep fried spiders placed on top of rice and brown gravy from a jar! The other choice was shrimp with cheesy grits. What arrived was shrimp that looked like it was sitting on salsa with watery boxed mashed potatoes! As for service, unbelievably slow and forgetful as our waitress never brought my last glass of wine to the table. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I had waited for over a week with excitement just to be let down. Btw, meal total was $99! read more

We got over to the Beach House for dinner last night and really enjoyed it. The menu is mainly seafood dishes but they do have some chicken and beef options. The restaurant was busy when we walked in but we were greeted right away and just had to wait a few minutes for a table. The decor is nice with pleasant lighting, not too bright or dark. The service was attentive and friendly. The appetizers we ordered were the ceviche and the tuna poke. I would highly recommend the poke! Wow! The ceviche was good too. I wasn't crazy about the chips but the app itself was bright and fresh. For entrees we had the cioppino and the pad Thai. The cioppino was perfect. Lots of seafood, flavorful, with soft inside and crisp outside bread. Will definitely order it again! The pad Thai was different. The sauce was not what I'm used to and I would choose something else next time. For dessert, we ordered the pineapple cake. If you like coconut and pineapple you will love this! Yum! Can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu items. Nice new place in Ottawa! read more
