In my ongoing quest to go to all of the Hawaiian restaurants in the South Bay, The Beach Hut came up in my Yelp Search as a place to try. I know this spot is probably better known for their breakfast plates but I'm not a fan of eggs so my friend and I decided to check this place out for lunch. The Beach Hut reminds me of those old school teriyaki joints you'd see all over Southern California. You can get teriyaki chicken, teriyaki chicken and steak, spam teriyaki beef patties, regular burgers, cheeseburgers, teriyaki burgers, teriyaki chicken and steak with a side of spam... you get the idea. The combinations even come down to the sides, which range from the typical rice and macaroni salad to chow fun noodles, fried wonton skin, and veggie egg rolls. I ordered The Grinder - a hefty plate of teriyaki chicken and steak, 2 scoops of rice, mac salad, fried wonton skin, and a side salad, plus a slice of hot buttered Hawaiian sweet bread. It cost $10.95 which is not a bad deal for all that food... but regardless what you pick, all of the lunch plate combinations basically range between $9 and $11. At the end of the day, all of the prices didn't matter. My friend ordered a teriyaki steak plate that came out with a small error, but to our surprise, instead of just re-making the dish they decided to cover our entire meal. Both his dish and mine, on the house! It's so rare for restaurants to go out of their way with service, so The Beach Hut really surprised us. Torrance Food Crawl #194 The theme is beach food, or food you would might want to eat if you were by the beach, especially a Hawaiian beach. Rather than ordering something more Hawaiian in origin I had the Teriyaki Burger, with double meat, and cheese. The burger is served open faced, with the tomato, lettuce, sliced onions, and pickle slices on one bun and the meat, cheese, and teriyaki sauce on the other bun, so you can easily remove something if you don't want it. There is plenty of meat on the two beef patties and though they are cooked a little too much than what I prefer they turned out well. The light application of teriyaki sauce and cheese makes for a tasty burger. While its a handful to eat it holds together enough that it doesn't become too much of a mess. A good tasty mess. The french fries are okay. A little on the crunchy side but otherwise average. read more

The Beach Hut is always a good option for an easy lunch that's bound to delight the family or whoever you're dining with. They have a handful of great choices, though I am a sucker for anywhere that can make a good "loco moco" or breakfast plate. We usually do family style and order a bunch of different dishes, including at least one loco moco and order of french toast. The recent breakfast burrito we tried wasn't bad either! read more

Wow wow wow! Always drove by and never came in but today the beach hut was calling me. We were excited to try this Hawaiian cuisine and were greeted by a lovely waitress who assisted us with ordering the tastiest meals. The terryaki chicken was beautifully flavored and when we requested extra spice, they were not playing . Portions were generous and filling accompanied with delicious homemade sweet bread. The service was really friendly and I felt at home in a Hawaiian tropical beach house. What a lovely lunch here at the beach hut! Can't wait to come again soon! read more

I came here for a kid's soccer fundraiser. I grew up in the SoBay and never knew this palce exist! It's decent. Good portion and friendly service. I wanted something soupy, and the Saiman hit the spot. I had the bacon fried rice, and have had better elsewhere. It was cooked with too much shoyu or something. Still, it was only $4 so I can't complain about the price. Great little mom and pop place. I'd try the teri chicken next time. read more

Service was great!! Even though the waitress was the only person working the front so I did not get checked on during my meal or a coffee refill until I was done. She never seemed stressed or overwhelmed she was very sweet and professional. She had a full restaurant inside and a few tables outside. Ordered the breakfast burger which was delicious. read more

The pocho sausage is delicious! The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the prep of the food is inconsistent. Sometimes the eggs come out over medium, fried, scrambled...the bacon can be burnt to a crisp or soft, just depends on what day you order! Overall pretty good though. read more

After several years, We just left the Beach Hut today, for the last time. Me and a friend went there this morning for breakfast around 11:05. The place wasn't that busy. We sit down and look at our menus. The lady brings us water and 1 coffee. Then, nothing. 30 minutes pass by and no one comes to take our order. Then 5 minutes later another server realizes that we still have our menus. She's asks us if we've ordered and we say no. She takes our order. 25 minutes later, 3 families of 3, 5, and 7 show up. They all receive their food before we do. That is absolutely unacceptable! We were completely ignored!!! We walked out at 12:10pm and left the door open. Absolute Garbage Service!! Rescued from the ashes of the family break-up of the original in Manhattan beach location, this new family grabbed the cook and the most important vibes and recipes and made it even better!. 100% attention to quality and detail. Amazing staff, and the owner really cares about this place and her beloved customers. The wife and I travel from Santa Monica on many a Sunday morning and spoil ourselves with this amazing food. I just wish they were closer, but truth be told, I would travel farther if I had to!. Came in today to get breakfast with my wife and kid before his baseball game. Have eaten at other beach huts in the past that have had great service and the food is always amazing. Today not only did it take 75 minutes to get our food so we had to take it to go, making us late for our game, but 2 out of 3 of our orders we wrong and missing add on items that I paid for. I used to go to the beach hut all the time (I was born and raised in Hawaii) so the beach hut was always a go to for me. NEEDLESS TO SAY ILL NEVER BE BACK. The service here has gone down hill tremendously I came to pick up an order that was ready for pick up and I just stood there staring at my bag on the counter ready for them to hand me told her I think that's my order for pick up and she blew me off but instead the women' continued to wait on tables cash people out who walked up after me help in the kitchen and chat while I just stood there I ordered out this time because last time dining in the older waitress was terrible took 15min to take our order she didn't even get it correct and her attitude wasn't the friendliest... it's a shame cause I love this place ....But standing there for 10 min watching the women cooking eggs in the kitchen droppin them out on accident onto a dirty rag and throwing back in the pan has now made me re think how clean this place is Gross !! read more

Best Hawaiian in the world. I've truly been around the world and visited 88 nations and done over 20 trips to the Hawaiian islands--Every single one of them! There is no place like home... And that home for me is eating a hapa at beach hut. Hopa means someone or something of mixed race. It's when two things come together and these two are better together than they are individually. My opinion is the best meal here is the Hopa because it gives you the best teriyaki steak, the best teriyaki chicken, incredibles scrambled eggs, rice, and a fried wonton. But don't forget the extra sweet bread and tell Angie that Mark sent you because she makes the absolute best teriyaki sauce in the world! I've been eating at this place since 1989 back when they were in Hermosa Beach. No other Hawaiian restaurant in the world does it like this! Not even in Hawaii! Get there early because they close at 3 PM and make sure that you check online to see if they're open that day because they typically close on Tuesdays. There's nothing like this place! read more

Good little corner Hawaiian Joint. For budget-eaters, try the surfer-scramble: eggs with potatoes and hash with rice and sweet bread. Great Deal. For Lunch, I like the B plate, but there is a ton of great options. The coffee sucks but there is a Starbucks across the street. (update: the coffee is a lot better now!) Very disappointing. Order was 2 pancakes and the Combo D. -The pancakes had this weird aftertaste and it was clear that they cooked them on the same cook top that they do the chicken. They must have made my chicken and beef and then made the pancakes because there were these gross crunchy bits on them and it ruined the flavor. Waste of $6. -The Combo D left a whole lot to be desired. You get a lot of food but this food is certainly quantity over quality. You get two small scoops of rice, a raw dough-overcooked veggie egg roll, a piece of buttered sweet bread (only good item), a fried wonton skin, knock off "chow fun" with copious amounts of undercooked broccoli, and a side salad drenched in Italian dressing. You get this for $10.50 which, once again was quantity over quality. This food that I got is a pure disgrace to Hawaiian food. This meal should have cost $7-$8 at most. Please, I beg of you, stick with L&Ls, The Loft (even though I despise the owner), or Back Home in Lahaina. The meal was underwhelming to say the least you can see and taste the effort that was not put into this meal. -I ordered from GrubHub because I'm in the hospital and the food came quickly with a $2.99 delivery charge plus tip. It didn't arrive to me in that "fresh hot" way that you'd expect. It was like they had everything ready and microwaved it. This is yet another place that insults and embarrasses its genre of food to shame. The inside is so open and light & very pleasant. I liked the Hawaiian themed music playing in the background as well. I had their lunch plate A which consisted of Teriyaki Chicken, noodles, rice & a side salad. The salad was super simple--lettuce, tomato & salad dressing. I found myself wishing they had at least put some green onions on the salad just to add a pop of something. The Teriyaki Chicken was good & even better lightly dipped in the sauce. They have Sriracha on the table if you want that added "kick". The noodles were good & I enjoyed the vegetables that were mixed into it. The Huz enjoyed his breakfast burrito. The First-Born liked his sausage & hash (they had a unique way was prepared that was delicious) and the Youngest said he liked his Loco Moco. Our lunch was an overall good experience except that when we finished out meal everyone seemed to have disappeared and we sat there waiting for our check for a good few minutes. The Huz finally got up & asked for our check. An explanation (although I don't want to excuse it) is that they seemed to have a huge "to-go" order that they were taking care of so everyone was in the back. Pro-tip though, don't neglect your current customers. Also, when the server came to grab my payment she asked me if I wanted a receipt to which I replied, "Yes", she looked over at my husband for confirmation. Was really sad when their Hermosa Beach location closed... Lo and behold...they are now here in my neck of the woods!!! They serve the best hawaiian style breakfast/lunch!! I always order the #8 Royal Hawaiian which is their teriyaki steak served with eggs, rice and sweet hawaiian bread and a crunchy wonton. But on today's visit I ordered the loco moco...and ohhhh mannnn....it was friggin the bomb dot com!!! The beef patties and gravy were cooked perfectly along with the over easy eggs. This IS the same place as you grew up with in Hermosa Beach! The new owner, she learned from that brother who kept debating to retire! So, the vibe is not the same, not being on the main street of Hermosa BUT, you can still get all your favorites! Like for me, the #8 Royal Hawaiian...I think she doesn't offer all those optional sauces they used to offer as I really only care about the Teriyaki. AND when you crave yourself a Hawaiian Breakfast this hits the spot so well! (and yes I've tried the Hawaiian Bread place and ...it's just not the same. I can't get these dishes over there, so I do think this is way better) and it's close to the beach-if you were to hit it after surfing. The new place is in a strip mall but at least exists with all the same favorites. The new place will break in, I love bringing my kids here and its' chill. Coffee is good and those Hawaiian juices in the can that my little bro loves. There's a TV here too. Though the vibe of that old place is gone...I see a lot of new people or people from the former...supporting her too. I appreciate this owner rescuing what was my favorite brekkie spot! AND a lot of friends don't even realize they can still enjoy it! So great to tell friends that they can still have this meal!
