We chose this restaurant for breakfast with our family of five specifically because Yelp indicated that it was dog-friendly. Unfortunately, our experience made us feel anything but welcome. When we arrived and told the host that we had a dog with us, his response came across as rude and unwelcoming, which surprised us given that the restaurant was listed as dog-friendly. We were seated outside on the sidewalk at the table farthest from the entrance. After we sat down, the host moved the sign displaying the daily specials directly in front of our table, effectively blocking the view between our table and the other guests seated outside. Whether that was the intention or not, combined with the way we were treated when we arrived, it made us feel as though we were being separated from the other customers. Our female server was fine, and we had no issue with her. However, the two male staff members who came by to refill our water and coffee were also noticeably unfriendly. I don't know whether they were owners, managers, or other staff members, but the overall atmosphere made our family feel uncomfortable and unwelcome throughout breakfast. We went out of our way to choose a place that was advertised as dog-friendly, so this was especially disappointing. Based on our experience, we will not return. read more

Eat at Rudy's is a cute breakfast nook in Old Town Torrance. I'm not sure how busy it gets during the weekends, but I was fortunate enough to try Eat at Rudy's on a weekday. I just had a brunch here and it's one of those hidden gems that makes you remember that the food in SoCal is the best. I got their pancake sandwich (2 hot cakes, 2 sausages and 2 eggs) and my +1 had their international omelette special with hash. For something so simple, it was amazingly delicious! Portions are large and we needed to ask for a togo box. Hospitality is great here too. For our visit, there was one cook at the open kitchen and two very friendly servers at the restaurant. It was only us and 2-3 other group/couples at Rudy's. Food came out quick and hot. Server checked up on us and refilled my coffee whenever I ran low. We walked to downtown Torrance to shop at the Antique Fair but had to stop at Rudy's for breakfast. After a short wait we were seated and they were very busy. The guy who seated us also fills the drink orders and buses the tables. He was so accommodating and filling everyone's drinks. Forgot my lunch this morning on the kitchen counter, so decided to check out a local Torrance banger. I'm not your typical tuna melt gal but the Eat at Rudy's Tuna Melt Supreme sounded too good to pass up. Tuna salad mixed with bacon, avocado, mayo, pepper, and celery slapped between two lightly buttered and toasted slices of white bread and melted cheese hit the spot. The ambience is super casual, and there's outdoor seating (I got my order to go so strictly observations here). The staff were also very friendly. My 2nd visit to Eat at Rudy's and again they didn't disappoint. I ordered my food to go like this and last time because I was eating alone. I got the Rambo breakfast under the "hot off the griddle" section of the menu. It's basically a French toast breakfast with eggs and your choice of protein, I got bacon. The food was great, no complaints. The service, even better. This was a friendly establishment with very fast service. We were seated quickly, ordered and the food came out super fast. We ordered chicken fried steak. It came out very hot which was nice. Unfortunately, the flavor just wasn't there. The steak nor the gravy had flavor. I ate my eggs and left the steak. The house potatoes were okay they did make them extra crunchy like I asked. My husband ate most of his plate, he thought it was okay. The 2 stars for lack of flavor in food. 5 stars for the friendly service. Seems like they have a loyal customer base. A really delicious diner in old town Torrance. It's located on a tree lined street and has many outdoor tables so this is the sort of place that is an easy option to sit outside or in. Today I brought my dog so the outdoor seating really came in handy. We were able to find a parking space right out front and there were a ton of other free parking spots next to us as well. Our server was really polite and fast and we were serviced immediately after sitting down. They have a very large menu filled with all sorts of diner classics, so it was hard to choose what I wanted this morning. Everything is very fair pricewise and the portions are also very hearty. I started off with a cup of coffee, per usual, and it was very tasty and strong. For my meal I chose the Marinated Steak and Eggs because I read a lot of positive reviews about it. I can confirm that it is indeed very good. The steak is very tender and seasoned well and comes in a very large sized portion. I was not a fan of the hashbrowns, as they are more of a potato cake , but aside from that everything else was really good. I would definitely recommend to anyone searching for a solid breakfast option in Torrance. I plan to be back in the future next time I am down in the area. read more

Short version: classic diner. Friendly staff, big portions, good food, takes credit card. This is another one of those places where I'd say it's a solid 3.5 to 4 so I'll leave it at 4. Here's the positives, food was pretty good. I like places that have quality bread and I was happy to see they serve normal good rye bread not that weird marble rye. My order wasn't greasey which was also good since many times places use too much oil. This restaurant isn't fancy by any means and serves basic diner style food. But really you are probably coming here for breakfast or a burger so they do those things pretty good. The dining room is kind of worn and showing its age but since this is a diner I'm not expecting much and it was clean inside. Overall you come here because you want good diner food. It's solid for that. Are there places that have more inventive food for sure yes but also costs more. I like coming here and will be back at some point. I love Old Torrance and have often spotted many locals dining here. I actually can't believe it took me this long to dine here but I definitely know it will not be my last. I came with a friend for breakfast and I chose to get the John Wayne breakfast and while my friend got the Biscuits and Gravy. We also got some coffee. Their portions here are huge and definitely perfect for sharing. The John Wayne breakfast is one of their most popular and I can see why. It was a a plethora of deliciousness. The John Wayne Breakfast consists of tortilla topped with home fries, 2 eggs over medium, 2 pieces of sausage all smothered with some Spanish sauce. I loved the home fries, the sausage and eggs! I also got to try my friend's Biscuits and Gravy and this was also quite good. The biscuits were perfectly soft and the gravy was rich and tasty. I noticed they were baking lots of biscuits that morning and thus I'm sure this another popular item. Coffee was free refill and servers were generous. I also loved how they had the flavored creamers (Hazelnut and French Vanilla) already at the tables. I really enjoyed my visit here and will be back for some more good local eats soon! read more
