Well - I bookmarked this spot and I decided to pay a visit. The location was quaint and beautifully situated near the water. I would give them A+ for location. As soon as you entered you see a sign that says order here. So it's a Panera Bread ordering system. When you pay, you are given the opportunity to give a 15%, 20% or 25% tip. I thought to myself...hmm that's interesting. It's a self-ordering counter system but you find a seat and they do bring the food to you. Thus far the logistics of it was somewhat conflicted. When you were complete with your meal, then (like Panera Bread) you pick up your own dish and silverware and drop it off in the dish container and the garbage goes into a separate container. I ordered the Rueben Sandwich and my sweetie ordered their burger on a gluten free roll, along with an Americano and a chocolate chip cookie. The sandwiches come with either dressed greens or fried chick peas. I was somewhat taken back when the price came out to $36. Which is fine if it was a full service restaurant, and not a "order here" cafe. It seems like the Beehive has an identity crisis. They want to be a chill style cafe, but poorly mimic a restaurant - with inflated prices with a self serve approach. The food ?? I know Reuben Sandwichs, and this one did not have the typical slice of swiss cheese. Reuben Sandwiches are somewhat gooey and messy and fun to eat. This one was too clean and not enough thousand island dressing. Although the corn beef was freshly made. We had return the burger since...my sweetie took one bite and realized that the beef had a rank smell to it. It was as if you bought a piece of meat from the market and opened it and it smelled very badly. It was bad - the lady behind the counter was kind enough to give her another option. If this was a real restaurant - we probably wouldn't have been charged for that burger. It would have been taken off the check. I'm disappointed because it is a chill place, a cool hangout cafe. They should really stick to simple cafe food and snacks. read more

Everyone might rave about the dining scene in Providence and Newport, but the real great restaurants are off the beaten path in the quaint little town of Bristol, Rhode Island - and The Beehive Cafe is no exception! I have frequented this adorable little spot for years, but never got around to extolling its awesomeness in the form of a Yelp review until now! Located tucked away off of the main drag, The Beehive Cafe is a tiny, two story restaurant built into an old historic house. But don't be fooled by the size of this place. They serve up sophisticated, farm to table breakfast and lunches seven days a week, and dinners Thursday through Saturday. Pretty impressive for a spot with maybe only twelve tables in total. The menu is extensive, and has everything from classics, like sweetbread French toast with fresh maple syrup, to more creative takes on old favorites, like a spicy and flavorful jalapeño hash. No matter what you get, you'll surely be in for a treat. My personal favorite are the omelets, and I recommend you create your own from the variety of elevated fillings, like butternut squash, caramelized onion, and house cured salmon. This isn't your average greasy spoon! Step up to the counter and order right off of the menu. The cashiers are friendly and accommodating, and you can usually modify menu items without much issue. I recommend asking for grilled chicken in an omelet - it sounds weird, but give it a try! You'll also be greeted by a huge array of beverages - everything from teas to locally made sodas and unique coffee concoctions. They also have great smoothies, like the Razzle Dazzle, which combines housemade raspberry iced tea with fresh raspberries and ice. It's a perfect treat for a summer afternoon. If you're more in the mood for something hot, they make awesome tea lattes. I highly recommend the "Obama 44" tea, which has notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and bergamot. If that's not enough for you, check out the ample selection of freshly made pastries and desserts, with standouts including the decadent Billionaire Shortbread, which layers silken chocolate over chewy caramel and buttery shortbread, and their wonderful rendition of the simple Lemon Square, topped with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. We wanted to try the Beehive and stopped in for breakfast. Order at the counter, grab a plastic animal, and sit somewhere. 4 tables outside were full. The first floor had one community table pushed against the wall with 2 chairs. I had an elderly woman with me, so the upstairs tables were out of reach. We sat at the community, dirty, crumb covered table. We got our breakfasts. 2 eggs, hash browns and toast. $7 I got a side of bacon. $4 for 3 slices. It was the least expensive breakfast they had, and I think I spent $30 with a tip. My Aunt didn't like a single thing. She didnt think the coffee was fresh. Her eggs were overcooked. Her hash brown was mushy, and her toast was dry. I had tea. One of many blends on the shelf of jars. I heard the waitresses talking about yoga, tarot readings, chacra this, and tincture that... I tried not to think of what was in my tea. They had some odd things on the menu too. My eggs were overcooked. My hash brown was mushy, but I liked it, and my flax seed bread was dry. There were 2 butter pat's and I used both, and it was dry. We ate, paid, and left. Neither of us plan to go back. I did 2 stars, because I heard someone there say they had the best breakfast sandwich of their entire life there. People on bicycles stopped to get breakfast sandwiches too. Place looked pretty nice, good location and solid reviews. Very busy too inside which is usually a good sign. But menu options were so so, everything was a bit disorganized. Some of the drink specials were on the back wall so we didn't even know they existed till we were leaving. Coffee was pretty bad for a cafe. Egg & Arugula sandwich was as bland as food can get. Added some hot sauce and my side of potatoes to see if I could make it taste better and it worked alright. I had to go back downstairs to swipe my card again b/c of a malfunction on their end. The staircase is very tight and difficult to get up and down with all the other people on it. So I came here for Lunch his past Sunday. It was busy, so there was a line to get in and place your order. It seemed to move pretty good, so no big deal. We placed our order, were given a little animal and went and chose a table. This place is teeny, so there aren't a lot of seats. We lucked out and were able to grab the last table. We sat and waited for our food. We waited for 40 minutes until our food came out. I understand it was busy, but I ordered a salad and my fiancé ordered a cold sandwich. That's why I docked one star off. I just don't understand why it took so long. The food was delicious! I loved my salad. I'll probably come back during the week when it's less busy so I can get a better idea of how I feel about this place. Definitely in a great place! read more

Beehive Cafe is really quite incredible. I went the other day with two friends who have been going there for a while now. We parked down the road and it took about a minute to walk over. Walking in, it's quite small! There's a table and a few seats downstairs along with the menu, pastry selection and cashier where you order your food. We sat upstairs, and it was a decent amount of seating, some seats even being outside! Unfortunately we couldn't sit outside as it had just rained a few days ago and it was still wet and chilly. We sat in the far corner-- there were four of us. I ordered the Banana Bread French Toast along with a side of Fried Chickpeas. Delicious. Everyone at my table had a bite of my french toast and everyone was pleased. It was grilled on the sides so it was a bit crispy, but soft in the middle and so tasty. There were coconut flakes and some other kind of flakes on top of it, and I'm usually not a fan of coconut but it really added to the soft texture of the banana bread. It also came with syrup and honey butter, both great additions! The chickpeas were also great, and I was pleased to see it was quite a large amount that came in the order. I couldn't finish it, but they were great. Cooked well done and flavored, but not overwhelming at all. It's a side I've never seen before, and I'm really glad I had it! The water is serve yourself, and you empty your dishes and place them into a tray when you're done. Simple enough. I really wish I got pastries or a smoothie, at least, but by the time we were leaving I was stuffed! If only I were closer, I would go back in a heartbeat. Really. We stopped in for coffee and some pastries and SO GLAD WE DID! The coffee is so, SO good! I got the maple latte and it didn't disappoint! Not super sweet but not sweet at all just the perfect amount of flavor! The cranberry orange scone was so good my daughter continually motioned for more in sign language really yummy food I even ordered lunch one day and the Mac and cheese was so creamy I could have at the whole thing! One of my favorite places to go for brunch in Bristol! I love everything there. My favorite coffee to get is the iced honey pot coffee. I love brunches there and dinner, the menu is fabulous at all times of the day! I love that they serve beer too, makes it a perfect place for dinner. For a side I always get the roasted chickpeas because they are cooked to perfection. My favorite item for brunch is the breakfast burrito. They also have great burgers and salads. I was a frequent patron many years ago (~8 yrs) and the atmosphere has changed. The experience was so bad, it prompted me to leave my first, and hopefully last, review of a restaurant. The staff was rushing us through our order and made any accommodations seem like a burden (ie answering questions about the menu, which I hesitate to say is an accommodation and more so the service agreed upon). When dining, we literally found loose screws in the chairs. One screw had fallen out of the chair and onto the stairs! This had the potential to cause massive injury to staff or patrons... Yikes! Luckily, my friend was able to find it on our way out and, out of concern, gave the screw to a barista. When we told the staff they quickly rushed us out and seemed disinterested, wtf? Disappointing :((( The food was fine, exactly as I remember, but given the experience I wouldn't recommend it anymore. read more

When I started coming here it was a nice quiet little place with few people so I could sit there for long periods of time and not feel crowded or that everyone would know my life story. Granted, it was a pretty stellar egg ham and cheese sandwich but really we're not in Soho, why are you charging that much for bread, egg and cheese? I never thought I would be able to try The Beehive Cafe since it is located so far away from the center of Providence. However, given the long weekend, a visit to Newport turned into a visit to The Beehive Cafe + a visit to Newport later in the day. I was a little worried about parking, but it turns out that there is a bunch of parking around the back closer to the water, so that wasn't a problem at all. Walking in, it was quite crowded and a bit squished near the ordering counter at around 10:30 AM. The concept: you order, pay, grab an animal figurine, find a seat upstairs, and wait on your food. I can see there being an issue if they take a bunch orders from multiple parties and there ends up being no seats upstairs, so the food may be ready, but there is no place for the customers to sit. Thankfully, according to other reviews, there is some outdoor seating, so during warmer seasons, it should be much easier to get a seat. I didn't have much time to choose what I was ordering, so I decided to keep it simple and get the 2 eggs, hash browns, and toast. While I would have preferred that the hash brown patty was a bit crispier, everything else was simply perfect. The toast was some of the thickest toast I've ever had. Very filling and surprisingly tasty. The highlight of the meal was definitely the brown sugar and bacon pancake, though. It was the perfect combination of sweet and salty -- the texture was crunchy on the outside, a bit chewy from the bacon, but also extremely soft and fluffy on the inside. I highly recommend those pancakes. I've seen a lot of other reviews complaining about the high prices. However, the breakfast options are actually rather affordable. The price only balloons when you make the decision to get a side of meat or a custom latte/drink. If you don't get any extra items, one filling breakfast item is well less than $10, which if you ask me is a pretty dang good price. I don't go to breakfast places often but if I did (and if The Beehive Cafe was closer to Providence), I'd be one of the regulars here, no doubt. read more

Walking in, the place seemed a bit chaotic. We weren't sure how to be seated, as there is no hostess stand. Well, both done-in orders and to-go orders are taken at the same cashier. For dine-in orders, they give you a toy animal (so cute) so they know which table the food goes to. We were lucky to find a table, but I felt bad for the ones that purchased dine-in orders with no tables left. People ended up having to stand along the walls and wait for one. Make sure to have your phone to pull the menu online. There are physical menus, but not many. After ordering, I had to wait for the drinks before going to the table. It was so crowded, I wasn't sure where to stand without being in the way of servers being food to the outside patio. When I got the two beemosas and orange juice, I had to walk gingerly up the narrow stairs to not spill them. The drinks were delicious. We ordered veggie pot pie and the Butternut Cornbread Hash. I'm pescatarian so I appreciated the many meatless choices. They were good. read more

Such an amazing spot! Very small, seating is located upstairs and they have lots of outdoor space...but it's really cozy and cute. I was lucky to be here on a Tuesday afternoon and it was quiet enough to do some work. The menu is amazing, I got the butternut squash sandwich which blew me away! It also came with hashbrowns that were crispy and delicious. They also make a great cappuccino and have a beautiful case of delicious looking pastries. Service is helpful and kind and overall it's just a great vibe. Most importantly the food is amazing. I can't wait to work my way through the menu. read more

We were spending a few days checking out options for condo's and Loft apartments. We really liked Bristol and the things found we could do there. The Beehive was recommended by a friend and it was a great find!. I say find as we had walked by it a few times as we walked the water side a few mornings and we did not noticed this location as it is a little bit up the block. Its small, funky and fun. We ordered and then chose our seats ( that what they want you to do!) and we chose upstairs with a view of the water. if it was not just 30 degrees out - we could have sat on the deck! We both had the egg sandwich. Wonderful! Loved the eggs and arugula, and tomato was a nice touch, maybe getting grilled would be a good idea. It was filling and the home made rolls was perfect. Best - the coffee was rich a strong. We took home some of the home-made pastry. Wish we had taken more with us. I am not sure when we will get back to Bristol, but if we did - we would very much go back and try more items on the menu. PS - loved the art work on the walls. read more

Cute place, fast service, and great food! Came here during brunch got on a Sunday and the place was packed. You order at the front of the restaurant, are given a table marker, and the food is brought over to you. The drink however, you pick up right at the front next to the cashier. I ended up getting a chai which was good and the two eggs breakfast. Which comes with you guessed it, two eggs (any style) and then four triangles of toast and a side. For toast I got the flax seed toast which was really great, thickly cut and while it was toasted, it still had that nice fluffy and fresh consistency. For a side I got the fried chickpeas and wow they're really good, flavorful and very addicting. Enjoyed my time at the Beehive, and will definitely be coming back! read more

Love the Beehive! The space is small, quaint, and homey with dining downstairs and upstairs as well as an upstairs balcony with a beautiful view of the Bristol harbor. The Beehive really emphasizes their farm-to-table approach to food. Everything is fresh, locally-sourced, and delicious, making it one of my favorite spots to grab lunch in Bristol. I often opt for their chicken sandwich, which comes with a delicious homemade fruit chutney and melted Vermont cheese and is served on a warm toasted potato bun. All of the bread is made in house and all sandwiches are served with your choice of dressed greens or roasted chickpeas, which is a nice change from your standard French fries. Their menu also has a variety of vegetarian-friendly options such as their grilled cheese, which is customizable (I opt for the chutney and caramelized onions), and their butternut squash sandwich, which comes with a delicious pesto spread. Their bakery options are also fantastic. I recommend grabbing a side of their cornbread, which they toast with a housemade honey butter that is to die for. Before you come, understand that this is truly a café. Be wary that the space is small and breakfast/lunch is café-style service, meaning you order at the counter, are given a plastic toy animal as a table marker (a cute Beehive quirk), and must find your own table which can be a challenge on the weekend with limited seating. Dinner, which is only served on Thursdays-Saturdays is a traditional sit-down experience with a menu that is very similar to their lunch menu with a few exceptions-one being their build-your-own pizza or baked mac and cheese option. The mac-and-cheese is decent but is more of a cheesy penne pasta dish. I like my baked mac-and-cheese to have that crusty top to it, which it was lacking. The pizza, however, is definitely worth a try. I ordered mine with roasted mushrooms, marinated peppers, and spinach. The crust was light and fluffy and the ingredients were all fresh and delicious. Overall, the Beehive is definitely worth a visit if you're in the downtown Bristol area and looking for a chill place to grab lunch or even just a coffee and pastry. read more

So we came here a while back for breakfast to see what all the hype was about. I will say they are in a beautiful location in Bristol RI, right by the waterfront, however that's about the only thing that I can get as to the craze over this place! Ok so you walk inside this small place and it's pure chaos.. People standing in a huge line deciding what they are eating, asking their indecisive kids what they are eating... blah blah blah. Then it's your turn, they take your order and they give you a plastic animal statue and you then have to go search for a table... Good luck at this point because all the people that ordered ahead of you... they are either already sitting or looking too. After finally finding someplace to sit you will wait and wait some more until finally you see someone walking around with your food as they are scanning all the tables looking for your plastic animal. (We had an elephant). The breakfast was nothing to write home about. The eggs were cold and the toast was burnt. We kept saying "I can't believe we waited all this time for this". This afternoon my family and I planned to dine at the Beehive cafe, as we are usually pleased with the food. Unfortunately, however, the service was dreadful. Contrary to the website and signs inside the restaurant, the Beehive Cafe staff decided to close the cafe early. It was supposed to serve until 4, but today they decided 3:30 was the closing time. Instead of serving the remaining guests in line, on employee made us all leave. Saying "sorry for making you wait". Not only that, but he was clearly staring at the clock- waiting for us to leave. We had poked our heads into this little coffee shop last week. The place looked inviting and like the tea selection was gourmet. I knew we had to try it eventually. Well, I have been going through strong tea withdrawls due to not having access to loose leaf teas like I do at home. I like my tea very strong so I can taste all of the undertones of the tea. The lady who helped us this morning was more than happy to give me a second tea bag for my large tea. (Sweet baby jesus I was in heaven!) I had a strong cup of Mademoiselle Grey that had the traditional tang of bergamot with a delicate undertone of rose to make the blend really elegant. My husband got a small Beehive Elixir that he swears tastes better than the medicine ball at Starbucks. He felt that the ginger was deliciously more pronounced than the stuff at Starbucks, but nonetheless he enjoyed the tea very much. I also selected a lemon square to accompany my Mademoiselle Grey. The lemon square was tangy and moist with a light buttery crust. I hated sharing it with my husband, but did anyways against my better judgement. Either way we will probably make it there one more time before we leave back to Los Angeles. I love supporting local businesses even if they are not in my neighborhood. Went here yesterday for breakfast with a friend. I got the egg sandwich and a mimosa. Was very shocked that a basic egg sandwich was $15. We walked upstairs to wait for food. The bun on the egg sandwich was stale. Very hard. My friend didn't complain about his breakfast wrap but he mentioned to me how cold it was. On the way out we checked the thermostat and it was set as low as it can go and it read 55 degrees. I know heating costs are expensive, but you have to heat your restaurant. We were the only people upstairs. Hope they can get it together. Won't be back for a while. read more

Made a quick stop for an iced chai on our way to a leisurely drive thru nearby Colt State Park, so no food was purchased. But the breakfast and lunch menus look fantastic! The place has a really nice vibe. It's tucked into an historic house just off the beaten path, between the main drag and waterfront. The bakery counter had lots of great looking things, even though it was late afternoon. There's limited seating in the main lobby but there's a semi-outdoor/enclosed patio that looks pretty cozy. You all know the situation when you really want to go to 2.5 stars but that isn't an option. Pros were location and taste of most food options (breakfast burrito and omelet) but I have never had more bland hash browns ever. Literally boiled and riced potatoes with no seasoning added. So thanks, I get to hammer with salt pepper and ketchup in an effort to save this disaster after the fact. 3 egg omelette for $8 with no fillings? And then the fillings either $1.5 (cheese and veggies) to $3 (meat) that seems a tad steep. Also no spoon when you serve me yogurt?
