My elderly mother LOVES their lobster rolls. We tried to take her there this weekend, but it is a bit of a disaster, pandemic-wise. Dozens of customers without masks huddled together in the take-out line; most staff wearing masks, but several with masks on their chins, or off of their noses. We went elsewhere. Food: Don't even consider this place if you don't like fried food. The Big Catch specializes in fried food. To my mind it is pretty lousy fried food. While the large order of onion rings are huge they are extremely thin and most of what you are getting is fried batter. The sweetness of the onion is non-existent because you are getting 1/10th the amount of onion you get with decent onion rings. Also, the onion rings had the flavor of old seafood - which isn't surprising since a couple of fried clams slipped into the order. I specifically ordered some broiled seafood as well as fried. The broiled was decent. Attitude: At the bottom of the menu it tells you not to complain because unlike Mickey D's they take the time to prepare each order individually. It also states that all food is fried unless ordering a platter. Under the platter section it states that the food can be fried, blackened, broiled (and something else). When I asked for everything broiled I was told the clams and oysters are only served fried. I ordered everything else broiled and the waitress returned and said the head cook refused to mix broiled and fried food effectively making it impossible to get broiled food unless separate platters were ordered. Onion rings cannot be substituted for french fries under any circumstances. Given the oily, tastelessness of the onion rings, your better off with french fries anyway. The wait: The food didn't take long to be served. Price: Expensive for such poor fair. Almost $80 for 1 bowl of chowder, a large order of onion rings and three platters. Ambience: Inside there was a huge fan blowing heat out of the kitchen into the dining area. The waitresses were brusk. The view of Newfound Lake is beautiful. read more

The food was good, I will absolutely give it that. Service was straight out bad. Boating around the lake, the family and I got hungry. We beached the boat at The Big Catch. No smiles from the employee at the window or "how are you today". She took our order, which was a few plates and some ice creams for the kids, and I paid with my card. About $40, which I will admit is a value considering what and where it was. When the order was coming out, my family noticed a soda was missing. The employee told them that it was not on the bill. They called me over to let me know the soda was not put on the bill. Now I remember them ordering it, but the employee insisted we did not. No worries, it was busy, maybe she missed 3 adults saying it ( I say that sincerely), people make mistakes. Ok, here is my card ( as I had only $1 cash that I pointed out to her ) to charge me for another soda. There was the problem. $10 min on all cards. She could not run my card again for the $2 something. There was no room for an exception per her. There was no offer to take the $1. So I asked her to get the manager to see if they could make an exception. She stood there, puzzled. I get she was doing her job, but I think we thought we were upset with her. Not at all. But when she refused to get the manager, I said " no problem, we will return all the food for a full refund. Please process my refund." At that point she stormed away, and slammed a soda in front of me a moment later. No words, no apologies, nothing. I notion to her, asking if this was for me. She mumbled something like "No charge". She was clearly upset. Yes, upset that we wanted to pay for a soda that she missed in the original order. Later she had to walk by us in the dining room and was irritated we were still there. Body language speaks volumes. I am not bothered with the employee. I am bothered by the manager/owner who hired her, assumed she would be good for the window position, and did not properly train her on how to handle customer service. The face of your company should not be someone who does not know how to handle customers with a smile. What else is this company not taking care of properly? It was my first and last visit there. It is a shame because we visit that area many times a year and good food is hard to come by. read more

Went with a group of friends on our way out of the area heading back home looking for some lobster... no lobster. But they did have lobster rolls and lobster mac n cheese. I went with the lobster mac and cheese and it went thru me in an hour. Got both my friend and I sick (not fun on a 2 hr drive back to Boston) I really don't like writing bad reviews, but the list goes on. $6.50 for a bad bloody mary (no spice whatsoever), $2.00 waters, the salads were a bit weak, and scallops were nothing to write home about. The positives of the place are its location, pull up on your boat or jet ski, The view was great, the sunset is amazing. Staff was friendly and courteous. Lobster roll was decent and the ice creams looked amazing (and confirmed with a few others in the group). If you're looking for something right on the lake, look no further... but if you're staying on the lake I might recommend staying home with a 12-pack and some grillables. read more

For a NH restaurant in the newfound lake area you really cannot get any better. You can ride your boat to this place or drive a car. Only place on the lake that you can just dock up and eat. Nice view of the lake too, you can watch water skiiers or just a nice sunset. Food is great! fried fish is always good, they have the best lobster rolls. HI had heard this restaurant was good ....I usually like to be the judge of "good food" because sometimes people just do not know good food! Arrived for lunch after the traditional lunch hour, restaurant was not real busy but had a few tables. Server was supper nice, friendly, efficient and right on point with check backs and drink refills. We indulged in a wonderful meal of fried delights. The fried Shrimp Basket was a delight....shrimp were fried crispy and served hot. The haddock was fried a perfect golden brown and served hot , ditto for the fries as well! So, do yourself a favor and get to The Big Catch before they close for the season! read more

If I could give them negative numbers I would. Worst service and the bold guy (owner )is a jerk. Told us to go to McDonald's if the service was to slow. They messed up our drink order and food order. Take out orders take priority over their full service. Just because you have the only restaurant on Newfound Lake doesn't mean you have to be a jerk. Get your act together. read more

Have great food, amazing workers, the food always comes out at a great time and during the busy summer, but the only complaint is the fact that prices went up. Ive been coming here for about 5 years now and this summer its gone downhill. Its unfortunate since i have a summer home a walking distance away. The place was great previous years but is no more. Cleanliness has taken a huge hit i mean i dont think they have washed a table in months . The girls working the front windows seem to have an attitude problem also. It seems that there is no manager working here so the young staff just runs wild in the back. All you can here is f bombs being thrown around by employees in the back which would discourage me from coming here if i had kids. The Big Catch is a great combination of food, drinks and views. The seafood is fresh and they have skilled people cooking it. My wife loves the fried haddock and (it's often on the specials board) fried flounder basket. You can't go wrong with any of the fried selections. Also excellent is are the burgers, especially the cheeseburger sub, which are bargain priced and use good quality beef. The bar makes excellent drinks and if you're lucky Mary will be Fe bartender. I had always liked this place and recommended it to people for years. Not anymore. It was well over a 60 minute wait to get our food after we ordered. All of the food arrived cold. The portions were tiny, especially for a $23 "fisherman's platter". We complained to the waitress (who was very polite) and she spoke with the manager. The manager told her she could take a round of drinks off the bill (but the majority of our party did not order any drinks). The manager did not come over at all, though we could clearly see him wandering around the bar area. So: Basic restaurant problems due to incompetent management. If you like cold fried food enough to wait close to 90 minutes, this is your kind of place. It's a shame to see such a nice local restaurant go downhill. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch and was very impressed. Atmosphere is very casual. You can sit outside or in. The food was delicious. I got the fried shrimp basket and fried mushrooms. The onion rings are delicious. The "small" is huge and thankfully so because I couldn't stop eating them. I had the lobster roll and it was yummy. Big chunks of meat and lightly dressed. What was once a great place to eat (even though it is only open for a couple of months each year during summer) is now the place to avoid. Not sure, but I think it recently came under new ownership. The location is nice for a romantic alfresco sunset meal at the foot of Newfound Lake. The staff is largely made up of teenagers who are rude and unfriendly. After several complaints about the restaurant, we tried to let Tammy, the owner know about it and she was rude, unhelpful and wanted us to drive down there with no compensation to point out the employee in front of everyone which was beyond appalling. The restaurant is also hard to find parking sometimes and is often noisy with obnoxious customers and loud children. The food portions are small and pricey. The onion "strings" are not worth eating and be prepared to have your take-out order messed up and to be charged for extra condiments. What a shame....... read more

Nice little seasonal roadside restaurant on Newfound Lake with nice views and accessible by boat. The lobster roll had big chunks of meat and the accompanying fries were crispy. I live 5 minutes from this awesome establishment...They have it all...Food,view,great service & a friendly staff. My wife & I try to get down there at least 2-3 times a month for our Clams & Onion rings.By far the best in the lakes region. Lousy service. Busy day and we were prepared to wait .....if we at least had gotten a nod or hello from waitstaff. Nothing, especially no mention that the section of deck we were on was a "self-serve" area. No sign, and no polite heads up from any of the nearby waitstaff. Menus on the table made it seem as though we could order from our location. No idea what the food might be like, as we ended up leaving, rather disgusted with their inhospitable attitude. Drove a bit further to George's in the Plymouth area (?) where the service was excellent and so was the food. Since the Big Catch is about the only game in town on the lake perhaps they don't really care what kind of hospitality and/or service they offer (or don't). Won't be back. read more
