Time for me to try something different. I came to this place that's representing Denmark called The Bit O'Denmark. Located in Solvang, California. It's known for their Danish food, especially their frikkadeller. For me... I got a frikkadeller (Danish style meatballs) served with purple cabbage salad, and a choice of mashed potatoes or roasted potatoes. Got it with roasted potatoes. When I took a bite of that.... I must say this was delicious. The brown sauce for the meatballs was on point. It's not quite gravy though, but pretty good stuff. Roasted potatoes was real tasty, better than French fries... lol. Definitely will order that again the next time I come to Solvang. My dad ordered the piccata salmon. He said the salmon was sooo delicious. My step-mom and step-sister shared the prime rib beef sandwich and some fries. Sooo delicious. I didn't take the pic of the salmon though. Maybe next time. Service was pretty good. Overall.... If you into some Danish food. I highly recommend the frikkadeller. The best thing to get in Solvang, or even anywhere in Denmark, 5 stars.

Went to Bit O' Denmark and honestly it was kind of mid overall. We ordered the potato skins and for $15 you only get four pieces, which felt pretty overpriced for what it is. They probably cost a few dollars to make, so I expected more. Flavor-wise, they weren't bad, but they definitely needed to be crispier. The texture was a little soft instead of that golden, crunchy bite you want from potato skins. They also could've used more bacon and a bigger portion of sour cream to balance everything out. It just felt a little underwhelming and not fully executed. The clam chowder was actually pretty good though. It was creamy and had a nice consistency: not too thick and not too watery. The clams were decent, and the base had good flavor, but it definitely needed a bit more salt to really bring everything together. It was close to being great, just slightly under-seasoned. Service, unfortunately, was the worst part. We had to get up and ask for a spoon ourselves, and no one really checked on us the entire time. They didn't ask how the food was or refill our water once. It just felt like we were forgotten. Overall, the food was okay with some potential, but between the pricing and the service, it didn't really live up to expectations. The ambiance was chill.

There is such a charming, traditional vibe here that makes the whole experience feel special. The absolute highlight was the Monte Cristo. It was incredible-honestly almost as good as the iconic one at Disneyland, which is saying a lot! You can really taste the quality, which makes sense once you realize it has the same owner as the VinHus cheese shop nearby.

Called in the afternoon they said no reservations first come first serve. We walked around for a couple hours until we got hungry. Noticed both times we walked past restaurant there was no line. At 7:15pm we walked in to have the host tell us she had 100 ppl on the waitlist. That we were supposed to come in and put our names down and then go walk around until we get a call. This was not told to me on the phone. The restaurant closes at 9pm so there would be no way for us to eat there for our anniversary dinner in time. She ended up making things right but there was confusion as she was going to seat us inside at a two person table but then put us outside at a 4 person table when there was two of us to freeze. This is where the nightmare continues. The roof was dripping all over our table. We were moved by the server to an even colder table next to an open door and roof. No heater near us. They did not even turn the heaters on until 8:20pm for others freezing. Every party after us refused to sit at the roof dripping onto them table. We put in our drink food order and it took them 45 mins to bring the food as we suffered in the cold. Server forgot our soda. Had to as again 20 mins after ordering it. We were the only ones without the shall rug to keep us warm on our chairs. Only good part. Our food finally came out and the Chicken Marsala was delicious. The mashed potatoes I do not recommend as they taste like powder. They were not edible to me. Wish I had ordered the baked potato. The wienerschizel was just ok and would not recommend for $40 price tag. I had no idea this place had such a low rating as I only checked through Google Maps. I need to check yelp each and every time for accurate reviews! Falling apart chairs, leaking roof, and rips in drapes did not make a special anniversary in Solvang. Had we sat inside in the warmth with the candlelight it might have been a better experience.

I had a good experience here in 2021, but funnily enough, both times I dined here, I witnessed a fight happen in the restaurant LOL. Seems like this place is a hit or miss when it comes to service, but the food is an overall hit both times I visited! The ambiance was definitely a miss this time. The service we received was also 50/50. There was a kind server who confirmed my reservation actually existed (I phoned in for a reservation about a month ago, no text or email confirmation so I was praying I actually had a reservation) about 30 mins before my actual reservation time, but when I went up again during my actual reservation time, a different server was dismissive of me and said they "don't do reservations." I kindly pointed to the other side of the book where my name was written down and she seated me. The table wasn't clean and the lights flickered pretty aggressively throughout the room the entire night. As I was getting settled I noticed the dismissive server getting into an argument with another party who called her disrespectful. Must have been something that happened before I was seated. The entire party then told her to stop talking as she tried to say something back to them. Normally I am on Team Server having been in a customer service role, but to have the ENTIRE party yell back? Usually it's only the one "Karen" who feels wronged so... that was interesting to see. Tea. The food was good but took a while to get to us. I did notice that almost the entire room (5-6 parties) all had empty plates and tables so I knew we were in for a wait. We probably didn't get food until 30-45 mins in. Unfortunately I accidentally ordered the Wienerschnitzel and it wasn't what I thought it was, but still pretty good. The combo platter is good for sharing to try different meats. It's only two items though, one sausage and one mini meatloaf. The shrimp and scallop pasta was underwhelming, creamy but lacks flavor. I found myself eating the coleslaw, cucumber and sweet onion topping more than the stars of the show. The price was pretty hefty for the portions. Most entrees were in the $25-$30 range from what I remember. And some didn't feel worthy of that price. Overall, I will be giving a different restaurant a try the next time I'm in Solvang.

Let me see a show of hands of who here has tried Danish food? Anyone? How many of you even know what the cuisine entails? Unless you are from Denmark originally or have ventured to the Danish city of Solvang near Santa Barbara; then you are probably like me and haven't yet had an introduction to a Danish tableside (I assumed it is similar to Swedish food at Ikea). Join me for dinner at Bit O' Denmark in Solvang and let's discover a Danish meal together. Located on Alisal Road in historic Solvang; Bit O' Denmark holds a long legacy in Solvang being one of the very first buildings constructed in the Danish village in 1911 serving as both a college and church until 1929 at which time it converted to a restaurant. Remodeled in 1963, the Bit O' Denmark has sat recognizable to present day. My boyfriend and I had worked up an appetite Christmas-ing it up in Solvang for their annual holiday Julefest and wanted to complete the experience with an authentic Danish dinner. When in Denmark, do as the Danes do! Bit O' Denmark welcomes with the traditional architecture of Solvang with criss-cross exposed timber beams, bright yellow plaster walls and coat of arms encircling the exterior façade while the interior is a mix of a European old-country house and diner/cafeteria vibe. Essentially, expect less bells and whistles and more of grandma's kitchen. We were seated rather quickly alongside a variety of other diners from families to dates to a pack of goth-ravers and everything in between. All is welcome at Bit O' Denmark. So, let's get to the nitty-gritty: what is Danish food? Well, if you suspected that it is a mixture of Swedish and German with plenty of pickled vegetables, sausages, potatoes, smoked fish, open-faced sandwiches and basically your German Oktoberfest type fare than you guessed about right. The Bit O' Denmark is very rustic and home-y sticking to its roots versus jazzing it up for the Southern California crowd. For our Denmark adventure, my boyfriend chose the Combination Plate (Frikadelier [pork meatball] and mild pork sausage in brown sauce served with pickled red cabbage, cucumber salad and mashed potatoes - $29) while I opted for an appetizer as dinner of Graviax (aquavit-marinated salmon with a mustard dill sauce, served on lettuce with pumpernickel bread - $19). Although the dishes at Bit O' Denmark are pastoral; the plating is surprisingly not haphazard and attempts to look more artful rather than sloppy. My favorite highlights on my boyfriend's combination plate were the pickled red cabbage and cucumber salad which were excellent in their sweet and sour acidity and a perfect accompaniment to the Frikadelier meatball and sausage. The meats were both delicious even if not super unique in flavor - although the plum based brown sauce did step it up a notch. My Graviax, which I planned to eat by means of a salad with the greens/salmon as I can't eat Bread a la my Celiac; was VERY tasty: bright aquavit, lemon and dill flavors in a mustard sauce on thinly sliced cold salmon on lettuce is somehow absolutely delicious and was filling for a light dinner even though an appetizer. It was honestly much better than I thought it would be! Bit O' Denmark is absolutely successful at bringing the Nordic foods of its people to Solvang tourists. Service at Bit O' Denmark is neither here nor there: the wait staff gets the job done but they don't pamper you or become your best friend. Maybe that is the way in Denmark? Although there is a "poor service" consensus among the Yelp reviews here so it may be marginalized to this establishment. Still curious about Danish food and want to try it for yourself? Make your way to Solvang about an hour and half north of Los Angeles and experience the traditional fare at Bit O' Denmark and pin another flag on your international dining map.

Fantastic! We loved our early dinner here in this historic building. They hit all the high notes for us with friendly staff, attractive Danish modern decor, a few fun cocktails (I had their espresso martini, $16 - excellent foam!), and a menu with plenty of authentic Danish as well as other American options. Photos of menu and wine list attached. We started with the pickled herring plate ($21), which came with three flavors of herring plus gorgeous, dense Danish pumpernickel bread. It could be a meal and I don't think I could choose my fave flavor: the curry, tomato, or vinegar pickled. A pickled herring flavor parade! Loved it. For our entrees we had the Danish Combination Plate: a mild banger-style Danish sausage, pork meatballs (frikadeller), delicious gravy, warm red cabbage salad, cold cucumber salad, and a choice of potatoes (we had the roast potatoes- perfect!). $29. Also for entrees we had the open-faced sandwich sampler plate: three open face sandwiches (hello, Copenhagen!) of roast pork with cucumber salad and beets, Danish havarti with radish, and frikadeller meatball with red cabbage and beet, all on dense, slightly sweet, fully authentic Danish pumpernickel ($24). The mound of delicious potato salad in the middle- I don't even love potato salad but I devoured this. More pickled cucumber salad on top of the sandwiches. I loved this and we had plenty of leftovers. $24. The nonalcoholic ginger beer (bottle) was $6 and high end. I would absolutely recommend this place for a quality and beautiful Danish dining experience.

Is it really Denmark? Fantasyland? Maybe not, but it most definitely is a Bit o' Denmark. The restaurant's outdoor decor is so enchanting, it feels like you've tiptoed straight into a fairy tale set. Daily specials are written on an ever so cute chalkboard just outside the entrance. We arrived with Viking-sized appetites, ready to conquer Danish cuisine, but then the Monte Cristos were spotted on the menu. We knew what we had to do. Can you say symphony of flavors? Wow! The atmosphere was mellow, and the music was perfect. The service was a bit more relaxed than anticipated, seeing that it was not busy at all. Still it was a nice dining experience and the food was worth it.

An amazing restaraunt in solvang. One of the remaining places with plates of danish cuisine. We had the flakesteg and frikadeller and both were juicy and amazing. Service is wonderful and friendly. Restaurant is very cute and well decorated. Highly recommend!

We just really wanted soup on a chilly Solvang evening and this place delivered! They had delicious clam chowder soup with sourdough bread pieces. It hit the spot. I also got the crab cakes and I would probably pass those up next time around. They were good but they were a little expensive for what you get and came with a lot of unnecessary stuff. We were the only ones in the restaurant. I think they were nearing closing time and they were very attentive and nice. The vibe inside is more modern than we thought it would be based on the exterior but it was still very pretty.

My mother and I took a day trip to Solvang this past weekend! It was really fun despite the long drive and Solvang is adorable. I saw this restaurant while looking around and decided it was the best choice for something my mom may like! I won't lie, seeing the rating on yelp was worrisome but the rating on Google was different. I took my chances after reading them all through. Service - 5/5 Very sweet and friendly people. They're personable and remember things about their customers. We're new but there were two tables near that I could hear this from. They do a good job of letting us know the cheeses that we'd get to sample from the charcuterie board as well. Vibe - 4/5 It's a clean and neat place. The inside is relatively simple and not super decorated but that's fine to me. Sometimes keeping it simple is much better. The music is fun and not too loud and I like the fur? on the chairs for some comfort to the hard chairs. I took a look at their outside seating area in the back while going to the restroom and it was a cute little area! Food - 5/5 I'm a vegetarian so I can only speak on my actual experience with the pasta and charcuterie. Shrimp and Scallop Linguini I got the seafood on the side to let my mom eat it! It was clearly well-cooked and not overdone at all, which is great. Nothing worse than dry shrimp and scallop. The linguini itself was creamy but not overly creamy. The unique and fragrant flavor of the saffron helps offset it and lends a wonderful taste to the sauce. I don't think the tomato adds much except color but it helps it be just a little less creamy! I'm not a big fan of creamy sauces but I didn't mind this one. Charcuterie board Best part of the entire meal :) I didn't eat the meat so I can't comment on the quality but the cheeses were all amazing!! The purple cheese (which I think is lavender?) and the pesto green cheese were flavor blasts and so yummy. I loved them! They let us pair it with sweet grapes, apple slices, candied walnuts, strawberry jam, and olives. The beauty of a board is variety and to be able to make your own fun lil bites. As the woman to the table next to me said "I could eat a charcuterie board every day and not get sick of it." I think this was a good appetizer order. Combination Plate (Mom's review) "I won't lie, when the plate came out I was judging it for how it looked and assumed it would taste bad or plain. The meatball and sausage were both really good! The most important part of a meat based dish for me is for it to not be dry. That's why I avoided the duck despite it sounding good. The sausage had a nice snap and the brown sauce was a lot more flavorful than I thought! I think the pickled cabbage and cucumber salad sides were great because it helped me not feel tired of the heavier parts of the plate. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy! The more addicting part of the meal." The combo plate was so good that my mom took the leftovers home and ate everything up. She normally does not do this because she has a hard time eating leftovers so that says a lot! We definitely want to make another trip to Solvang and will definitely stop by this restaurant again.

Interesting. I've never had an open faced sandwich. The bread didn't have flavor, it was almost like a thin hard piece of old multigrain. Not sure if danish cuisine is my kinda thing.

First timer here, the ambiance for this Christmas season at The Bit O'Denmark is hitting the spot. I felt right at home... Christmas songs are playing, and the staff are awesome! What a great dinner. Our first visit, place was recommended by a local merchant (THANKS) and was fantastic. Had the Hakkebof Med Log. Omgosh. Such a fantastic flavor, nice char on outside, medium tender inside. The gravy and onions were perfect. Loved the sweet and sour red cabbage, reminded me of grandma's recipe, perfect flavor. I could have eaten two portions it was that great. Oh, get the roasted potatoes - Perfect! Wife's diner was the Picatta Salmon, again perfect portion and oh so flavorful. Just a hint of lemon, not overly seasoned. Her mashed potatoes were very creamy and abundance of flavor. Excellent meal. Hint: wait for food bit on long side, so order bread or something to tide you over. Recommended and will return, lots of great looking options. BTW, another table order steak - looked really really good. read more

Went there for lunch was told not to sit down because they only had one waiter working so I left. Used to be good. As a resident I have been in every restusrant. This was my favorite place. Instead went to the red Viking which was worse. Hey tourists don't buy the hype. Solvang sucks. Go to Los Olivos. They take their restaurants seriously. read more

Terrible experience servers were slow and the food was terrible we had get up to flag down the waiter twice and he would never see how our table was doing. I'm in the hospitality business and this was one of the worst experiences ever. On top of that the food was terrible and none of it was good we had to send back a dish because it was undercooked and whatever we did eat we got sick the day after. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. read more

Not familiar with local Danish flair but was so famished I went in. The quaint lil Cafe was friendly & welcomed me in like a regular. I couldn't get past the Clam Chowder so I had to order, washing it down with some recommended wine. I sat at the bar as I was solo, but then an acquaintance saw me & said hello. He was getting order to take home to family. The Chowder was a huge portion with the best rolls I've had in a jiffy. The wine recommended was perfect. I will definitely be back to try more from the enticing menu. Thx for the great service & friendly environment. read more

The service was excellent. Our host was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance was good. Music wasn't too loud, so you could easily talk without having to shout. The Monte Cristo was more like a dessert than an entree. It was good but was a lot for a meal. Maybe because it was like eating three pieces of French toast with ham and cheese and raspberry sauce. My only complaints were the glasses weren't the cleanest and there were a few mosquitoes flying around. read more

Underwhelming is the best way to describe the food and service. We ordered 3 Danish entrees and they were plain in flavor. I've never seen roasted potatoes look so full in seasoning and taste like...nothing. Clam chowder from Costco has more flavor than theirs. Our server wasn't very attentive and was either indifferent or rude. Edit: And in reply to the restaurant's message that they later deleted about us not being familiar with Danish food, yeah we know that! Thats why we came to your restaurant to try! But you offered nothing insightful besides pointing out that the menu has one entree that says it's the favorite that we already read. Went from 2 stars to zero if I could. read more

I live less than 90 minutes away and am no stranger to Solvang. I have been to some of the other places on Copenhagen. but my friend strongly recommended this place on Alisal. Yesterday, in the thick of holiday crowds, I made a point of going there, just before they opened and was happy I did. I went for the Danish Combination entree and it was delicious. Seasonings were great, the sausage and meatball were cooked to perfection as well as the mashed potatoes. The requisite cabbage was also a treat. The prices are a little higher here than the other places in town but are worth it. In addition to Danish comfort food, they offer a variety of other entrees such as Rack of Lamb, Picatta Salmon, and Roast Duck. I also learned that they are associated with Vinhus down the street near the post office that sells wines, cheeses and other food items. Bit o' Denmark is now my go to place in Solvang for lunch or dinner. read more

We got here a little bit past lunchtime so we had built up quite an appetite and I was looking forward for that authentic Danish meal experience. I got the Frikadeller - Danish Meatballs with mashed potato and the red cabbage and cucumber salad while my daughter got a kid's meal, some chicken tenders with fries. I enjoyed the vegetables and the mashed potatoes while the meatballs, I found them a little bit bland and could have used a little bit more spices, my point of reference being Ikea meatballs lol. I tried my daughter's meal too, of course, and I found her fries delightful to eat - finally some real potatoes different from the fast food ones we have been used to. I liked the overall ambiance and the outdoor dining area was nice with a good amount of sunshine. Service was not too bad despite of what I have read from other reviews. We drove up to Solvang last weekend and we ended up eating here. It was pretty empty for a Sunday, we were asked if we wanted to eat inside or outside. We chose outside it was nice and clean. The lights were nice, and there was soft music playing. I got the seafood pasta linguine, it was good it was creamy and well seasoned. My only complaint was it should have more protein for $29. My boyfriend got the Combination Plate because he wanted to try something Danish, he said it was good he finished it all so that says something. For our son we chose Chicken Tenders it was a big portion for him but we just took it to go. I recommend this place. read more

We were starving and all other restaurants in Solvang were already closed to take their afternoon nap, so we ended up in this joint. The staff was friendly, even though when we first stepped in it seemed as if they were considering whether to let us in or not... Still here in Bit O' Denmark, digesting my wonderful meal! OMG! This is only the second restaurant I've had a meal at, where everything from the coffee to the main course was a exceptional! I highly recommend the Combination Plate which has a large meatball, danish sausage, red cabbage (like my grandma's!). Very tasty pickled cucumbers and mashed potatoes with a wonderful brown gravy over them and the meats. My husband had his fav sandwich, the Monte Cristo, and said is was very good, too. You can BE SURE we will be back! read more

Pleasant and well priced. Very good and attentive service. The food we had (pork meatballs and a roasted pork dish) were okay, but nothing special, and there was little about the meal which seemed authentically Danish. read more

First we ordered just the French bread, that was drizzled with olive oil. I had the Wiener schnitzel with roasted potatoes ( I asked for no anchovies), my husband had the Red Pepper pasta! We both were super stuffed because we just couldn't stop eating it! HIGHLY recommend the Monte Cristo sandwich here! (their other dishes are delicious as well:) ) Delicious take on a classic. Our waiter was great, sat down our large group and was very affable. Very cozy restaurant with GREAT A/C. Super refreshing blast of cool air the second we walked in. Sounds lame but it's hard to enjoy when restaurants don't have good A/C. This was our first visit to this restaurant and I hope it will not be our last. I ordered the rack of lamb after a friend at home recommended it. Wow, was I impressed, the meat was cooked just right for me (medium) and the minty sauce was very tasty---meaty and minty. Can't wait to make another trip south to try other items on their menu! We ordered the Flaeskesteg (stuffed pork), the house "specialty". It was really good. In fact everything on the plate was really good. Also started using off with bread which was nice. The ambiance is nice and they have a covered patio in the back with heaters that is dog friendly. The service was good overall, but there was a very long wait. Go about an hour ahead and put your name on the list, then go walk around the shops. The host had told us about a 15-20 min wait and it was actually over an hour, so they lost a star for that. The food was decent besides the I stand mashed potatoes, but the service was not. When we first walked in the waiter advised us they only had seating outside. We thanked them and left since it was cold outside. We walked outside and seen towards the back of the restaurant there was an inside area with heaters and glass windows. We walked back into the restaurant and asked if that was the outside seating and we were told yes. We ended up staying and being seated. The greater seemed a little irritated that we came back. That should have been our sign to leave, instead we decided to give this place a try. I ordered the Salmon piccata and a child spaghetti. My cousin ordered for her and her daughter, and an appetizer. My nieces chicken tenders were burnt the waiter apologized and stated he seen that and did take it off of our bill. Our food was served. Sodas were watered down. The waiter never brought out our appetizer and never came back to ask if we needed more water or drink refills. When he feos come around we asked him about the appetizer and he apologized and said that was his fault he never put it in. I would have gave more starts than two except when the bill came we asked him to split it - he agreed and we both paid. We had a total of 4 in our group. We each tipped 15% due to service not being excellent. When I checked my bank this morning I was charged for my meal along with a 30% tip . I asked my cousin to check her bank and she was also overcharged for the tip. We tried to call today to speak with a manager. The person who answered was very unprofessional and stated there's no manager until later. Still have no spoken to a manager. I would assume this is not the first time this waiter has decided to tip himself what he feels he deserved. This happens in tourist areas so please anyone visiting this restaurant or any other high tourist place always check your bank quick. This is not ok. This restaurant does include tip if party of 6 or more. We had a party of 4 and tipped enough considering the not so good service. I will now have to contact my bank to dispute the unauthorized portion. read more

Quick take: Open until 9pm So we arrived a little later than planned. The sun had already went to sleep. We had the moon and all the street lights to keep us company. Quaint little Danish village. Definitely will have to make a trip during day light hours to capture the true essence of this town. The decor is cute. I really like the outside of the building. We were looking for a veal Shnitzel , not pork but veal , this restaurant had it and I started reading reviews . Usually I would be discouraged from going to a place with overall less than 4 stars , but I really wanted the Shnitzel . The food was good and we were pretty happy with our selection. However, I'm not giving the place 5 stars because the owner of the restaurant, a blonde lady in her 40s, was rude. My boyfriend and I took a road trip to Solvang to celebrate my birthday. We were hungry and this restaurant caught our attention, so we decided to give it a try. We asked to be seated at the patio because my dog was with us. The patio was hot and there was no ventilation, so one of the waiters, a nice Hispanic gentleman, was hospitable enough to leave the door open into the restaurant so that the AC could flow into the patio and help us cool off. Later on, I could hear the rude blonde 40-year old lady ask the man why he had left the door open to which he responds: "it's hot out there and the customers are sitting there". She responds to him: "Nobody told them to sit in the patio". I mean, I would gladly sit inside with AC but you're not gonna allow my dog in there, will you? Horrible customer service from her part but I applaud the Hispanic employees. They were the only ones that HAD customer skills. read more

Dined here last Tuesday night. We made a reservation but could have walked in without one since they weren't too busy. We both ordered the danish sausage and the meatball with brown gravy. The meatball was very good but the danish sausage was not so great. Our waiter was not attentive and left our meals sitting on the counter. I saw them up there and knew they would be warm at best and not hot in temperature. Very disappointing. I should have gone back to Copenhagen Sausage. Better food and it was served hot, even though it is an outdoor eatery. No excuse for the waitstaff to be so lackadaisical. If you want very good danish food, we enjoyed the Solvang Restaurant, but make sure you go for breakfast or lunch. They don't serve dinner. read more

Food absolutely delicious, but an incredibly loud party at the bar was allowed to bellow and fill the room for the entire hour we were here. We could barely hear each other at our own table. We wanted dessert, but my family finally just left the restaurant because we couldn't take the noise. I then sat at the empty table for literally ten minutes before anyone came near to clear the plates. I had to ask for the check and it still took a while. Food is delicious, but service is terrible, and for these prices, the experience should be as enjoyable as the food. read more

This was our first stop when we first arrived in beautiful Solvang! Our server was friendly but he didn't give us his name, he did claim to be the best at making mojitos and I would have to agree cause it was super good I recommend the watermelon! We used that option and completed the payment before leaving. We also lingered at the table for a bit afterward -- I was putting on my coat and we were in no rush -- and at no point were we given any indication that there was an issue with the payment. However, as we were walking to our car, the waiter and busser came outside looking for us, believing we had not paid. From the parking lot, I could see them searching and had my husband walk back to clarify. The situation was resolved quickly and the server apologized, but it was uncomfortable and embarrassing. Especially after using the payment method they provided. I understand that technical delays can happen, but I would recommend verifying payment status internally before approaching guests in that way. It unfortunately put a damper on an our dining experience and the rest of the night...

We threw all $50 worth of baked goods in the trash. Yes, I should have gone back and complained I'm had everything refunded but it was Mother's Day and we didn't want anything more to do with this establishment. The dining area has a great combination of classic American diner and Solvang ambiance that really lives up to the town vibes, and since Solvang was built up in its current form as a "Danish town" in the 1960s, that seems pretty accurate. This is pretty much a go-to stop for me when I'm in the area. Although there is usually a wait, the service is pretty quick. If you don't want to wait they have a convenient takeout window. Plus you can buy an aebelskiver pan and mix here! (Pick up some of the Bestemor's Raspberry Jam while you're there and you also won't regret it)

For $17 I would have hope for a bit better than that. The food tasted fine, but the portions won't fill a grown man and, unfortunately, not worth the price.

Just know that this place is often very full of inventory and crowds so it can get tough to walk around & shop. It won't be a casual shopping experience. Especially on weekends and summers. I came here mainly because I heard it was a great place to get old Lego minifigure bags. However, I was not expecting some of the older ones to go for up to $30 a bag! That's highway robbery. You can find opened ones online for a fraction of that price and when you do that, there's no need to guess if you are getting the one you want (or be surprised at all by what you're paying for). If you're looking for bags to keep sealed, this is a great option for you, but for someone like me who was just looking to get one or two to complete a series, this just wasn't priced right enough for me to pull the trigger. I did, however, purchase a single mini figure that's exclusive to a Danish store chain. Was it overpriced? Yeah. But not too high that I didn't feel like treating myself. Staff is very friendly and I saw them happily helping customers all throughout the shop. Customer service is great here. So rest assured if you have questions about inventory or if you want to try on something, there will be someone here to help you out quickly.

We have a maple Scandinavian dining room set my parents gave us as a wedding present. When the kids…read morewere little years back, the original seat fabric got all stained and nasty with milk, etc. We went to an undisclosed interior design place and replaced the fabric with marine grade vinyl and thick padding. The result was horrendous. The vinyl was tucked, unprofessionally with big seams/creases at the corners, like a do it yourself job. We didn't care at the time - as long as it held up for the next 10 years, we were good. Come 2020 and that vinyl is getting annoying. Our butts stick to them, the chairs noticeably look bad relative to the rest of our furnishing, and most importantly, the kids aren't leaving have half their food on the seats. Santa Barbara Design Center has been here for a while and I stopped in randomly on the way to Home Improvement. I was introduced to Michael, a knowledgeable and personable chap. I showed him an online picture of the original chair, and that I wanted to restore the seat to its original, sleek, sculptural and refined splendor. He said no problem, provided a couple of premium quality fabric books, and we were on our way. We picked out the fabric and brought the chairs in. Michael commented "my god, who did this work?" 50% down and ten days later, chairs were done, with a message "come down and make sure you are happy." My wife and I looked, were pleased - Michael responded with "here's something that bothers me, I want you to see..." He flipped the chair over and on the bottom, the seat fabric was stapled just outside of the underside frame. You wouldn't see it normally, but from a distance or looking down from the side, you might. Immediately we thought the same thing, yeah, that's not ideal. He said it shouldn't be done like this, let me redo it for you, no charge. His upholsterer redid it, and boy those 8 chairs look great, almost better than the original! The seats came out sleek and wonderfully curved over the underlying pad. The fabric is comfortable, soft and elegant - couldn't be happier. The interior of SBDC fills a warehouse space and contains just about everything; furniture, rugs, lamps, etc. The staff were COVID compliant, and Michael was a dream to work with. He has an excellent eye for detail, is easy to work with, and is an honest broker; I wish we had more projects for him!

What kept this experience from being a lower rating was everything around the food. The beer was ice cold, the cashier was genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in, and the staff throughout the garden were friendly and approachable. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the outdoor garden made for a pleasant place to hang out. They music playing, and if it had started a little earlier before we finished our beers, we probably would have stayed for another round. Had the burger packed a little more flavor, this easily could have been a five-star experience. While the food didn't completely win me over, the hospitality did, and I'd be open to coming back and trying a few other items on the menu.

A little kindness and consideration would have gone a long way, especially with children and elderly family members involved. I don't want to make assumptions or turn this into a bigger issue, but the interaction left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was disappointing because the food itself was genuinely very good. Hopefully management can address how situations like this are handled in the future, because no customer should feel disrespected while dining with their family.

That's usually a good sign. We also tried the Kobe Sando, which was very tasty as well. The bread was a little firmer than I personally prefer, but it still worked well with the sandwich and didn't take away from the overall experience. We sat outside along the side of the restaurant and really enjoyed the seating area. Inside, the deli is just as interesting. They have displays of aged meats and a walk-in room arcade that feels like a hidden gem. It's a unique touch that adds a lot of character to the space. What really stood out was the staff. Better than any of them. Period. I've seen them make it 3 or 4 different ways. Usually they serve 2 or so styles at a time. It's always fantastic. Their Godfather is a take on the Bay Cities Godmother. A pretty great one at that. Their jamon is incredible. They just get that great sandwiches are made first and foremost with great ingredients. There is no hiding quality on a sando, and they don't try. The portions are huge, and it's all so, so good. You can't go wrong here.

Date of visit: 12/16/2023 I recently had a very disappointing experience at Bit O'Denmark that I feel compelled to share. My group and I visited the restaurant specifically for drinks, arriving strategically to avoid the dinner rush and ensure a pleasant experience. However, our evening took an unexpected turn that left a sour taste in our mouths. Upon entering, we were impressed by the nicely remodeled interior, a very welcoming and homey atmosphere. We were promptly seated and began ordering drinks, enjoying the ambiance and our time together. As paying patrons, we had no intention of ordering food as we had already eaten prior to our visit. Regrettably, our positive experience took a nosedive when the waiter returned and informed us that his boss wanted us to leave because we weren't ordering any food. According to him, there was a long line of people waiting to be seated, and our lack of a food order seemed to be the reason for this abrupt decision. I found this situation both offensive and perplexing. We had planned our arrival strategically to avoid contributing to long wait times, and we were spending money on cocktails, which should have been valued as legitimate business. What's more, we had only been at the restaurant for a mere 26 minutes. I understand the importance of maximizing profits for a business, but it's disheartening to be treated as if our presence was a hindrance simply because we weren't ordering food. It felt as though the restaurant prioritized potential future customers over those who were already there and spending money. It's worth noting that our intention was never to inconvenience others, and the blame for long wait times should not have been placed on our shoulders. The decision to kick us out seemed to stem from a desire to cater to larger checks from food orders, rather than valuing all patrons, regardless of their choice to order food or drinks. In the end, this experience left a negative impression on us, and we left the restaurant feeling unwelcome and disrespected. After a long stroll around the Danish village, we were exhausted and in need of a satisfying meal. Luckily, we stumbled upon The bit O'Denmark restaurant. This cozy establishment had a somewhat romantic ambiance, making it an ideal spot for a late dinner with your date. Soft, relaxing music played in the background, creating a soothing atmosphere. If you prefer outdoor seating, there is a lovely patio area, but due to the chilly night, we opted to sit inside. The food at The bit O'Denmark was a mixed bag. My pasta with chicken was bursting with flavor, a truly enjoyable dish. However, the meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy were somewhat lackluster, missing that extra punch of taste. To our surprise, along with our main dishes, they served us two baskets of bread and butter. Although we were unsure if they were part of our meal or simply a late addition, they were a pleasant addition nonetheless. While the food was only average, the staff was friendly and accommodating. My wife and I had a really nice experience at A Bit O' Denmark in Solvang. The place is very clean with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and charming interior design that fits the town perfectly. We sat near the bar, and I ordered a Gentleman Jack neat - the bartender was quick, friendly, and made us feel right at home, as did the rest of the staff throughout our visit. Everyone seemed genuinely kind and attentive without being overbearing. The food was great! We started with the wings, which were perfectly breaded with a nice crunch and a tangy buffalo sauce - some of the best I've had in a while. I had the French onion soup, which was rich, flavorful, and just the right comfort food for the day. My wife got the Monte Cristo, and it was delicious - crispy, well-balanced, and not overly heavy. For dessert, we shared the aebleskiver (the classic Danish pancake balls), and they were fantastic - light, slightly crisp, and served with vanilla bean ice cream that tied it all together beautifully. We were there for lunch and all was just fine. The service was excellent and the food was good. Unfortunately they had an extraordinarily limited lunch menu and the there were very few meat options at the smorgasbord, which we had. All the items were fresh and and tasty but there are many other options in the area that serve the exact same fare. The price is just about right and the atmosphere is less touristy and had a bit of class. The restrooms are clean and there is lots of free parking across the street. My favorite part of the ambiance was the background music which was a great selection of classics from the 40's and early 50's. read more

This might have been my favorite meal while we were in Solvang! My husband wanted to try some of the food that my grandma cooked for me growing up, so I chose the hakkebøf and frikadeller for us to share. They were both good, but the hakkebøf was my fave! I've never had it with a fried egg on top, but it was a nice addition. The artichoke dip with pita bread was also really delicious. Would definitely recommend! read more
