We were looking for a good spot to grab lunch and the reviews for this place got us. When we walked in on a chilly afternoon and there were two tables pulled together as a table set for six available in an otherwise full restaurant. The woman at the counter finished making a couple of lattes (that looked pretty nice) and then turned to us. She told us it would be a 10-15 minute wait. Huh? Why not split the two tables?? Anyway, we decided to sit outside. From there, it got better. Our server was very nice, although she wasn't well aquainted with the menu. My wife got the Chile Verde Omelette, and I had the Turkey and Brie but on Rye. Both were good, but nothing special. Sandwich was too light on protein for me. We Googled "locals cafe" and this is what came up. Cute place with indoor and outdoor seating. We had Elva as our server and she was very welcoming and friendly. My husband had the eggs Benedict and I had the special scramble. Both excellently prepared with generous portions. We came here on a quick trip to Solvang and saw the reviews on Yelp and thought we'd try it. Being on more of a Keto lifestyle, they were very accommodating and the food was great! I ordered the omelette-- filled with ham and Gruyère cheese-- it was delicious! My husband ordered the chili verde omelette and it was so fantastic that we stopped by a couple of days later to have it again! It was so big we split it They also bring foamed milk and a biscotti with you coffee! Yum! This little restaurant isn't in the tourist part of Solvang, but it is close. Nice atmosphere, clean and fresh, and they have a nice patio area where we brought our dogs on our 2nd day there. Came here for the shakshuka. It was a fine eat, but It is more Italian flavor than middle eastern, including a tomato base reminiscent of pasta sauce and capers. The eggs in my biscuits and gravy were perfectly cooked but that's it. The biscuits themselves were so plain, I've never had anybody mess up biscuits and gravy. Sometimes the service makes up for the food but not this time. I asked about a rosted jalapeño and the waiter said he was going to check and I finished my meal and never saw him again, my husband had to flag him down but since I was practically done with my meal I told him to just forget about it. We then sat for a while waiting for the tab and nothing. Came here for my birthday brunch with my wife. Great experience, had steak and egg, done right. Their coffee was great too, one of the I have ever had. Server is polite, fast and efficient. The place is visible in the traffic area, not hard to find. Parking is ample. Nice decors too, decorated with a combination of kitchen utensils and framed pictures. Really nice touch. We went here because the reviews looked decent and it was the only breakfast really open later in the morning. They are really over priced for the quality of food you get. You do get big portions. The brioche French toast was soggy in the middle so you had to eat the outside. It came with fruit but it was just two strawberries cut up. The eggs were really bland. They charged a $1 for a tablespoon of ranch. The omelet with ham, cheese was decent, the bread was hard as rock, extremely hard, the hashbrowns were burnt on the outside and extremely greasy and undercooked on the inside. Service was okay nothing great. The place looks really cute on the inside. Yummy place recommended to us by a local. Probably wouldn't have found it otherwise but super glad we checked it out. Every dish was done well with fluffy omelette and French toast. The hash brown sides were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also ordered coffee which came with a small cup of steamed milk. Nice little touch that made the coffee extra memorable. First time at Leo's Cafe! Overall, it's a place I would definitely come back to. The servers were pleasant and friendly. The restaurant itself was quaint and had a lot character. It's important to note that as of this review 1/3/2024, several of the pictured items through Yelp are not on the menu. The waiter did explain that often times they are specials on the menu, so just keep that in mind when you make it out to Leo's. My wife and I started off with a cup of coffee and that was on point. I really liked that served us the coffee with warm creamer. Love when restaurants do this! Keeps that cup of coffee nice and hot, how I like it! For our meal, I ordered Gary's Pork Chile Verde Omelette!!! This was AMAZING!! Probably one of the BEST omelette I've ever had. The pork was very tender and the sauce was not too spicy at all and the chile verde had a great flavor and acidity. The crème on top of the omelette helps break the acidity. The Gruyère cheese, in my opinion, really ties this omelette all together!! The potatoes were were warm for my taste. I like my food hot and the potatoes could have been crispier. I'll definitely ask for that next time. My wife ordered the waffle and unfortunately, the waffle was a little dry. Sometimes that happens! Probably the only reason I didn't give them a 5 star review.
