From the outside it looks like an old pizza place. Didn't know what to expect. I am no crab house aficionado coming from long island but I know what I like. We went in. Not crowded. First place without a wait. I thought this place will suck. Nope. It was good. Really good. Home made potato chips to start. Then I got the crab dinner. Basically a ton of crabs dumped on table with fried chicken, corn on cob. It was awesome. My wife ordered the same thing. My daughter tried one. No bid. I probably ate 8-10. My wife maybe 3. Easily the best Crab bisque I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned. I had the Sauted Crab with Jumbo Shrimp which was also excellent. Generous portion of crab lightly sauteed (not dripping) in butter, and the shrimp were precisely cooked and tasted almost like langostinos. read more

Awful, awful,awful. Not sure how this place received any good rating. The only thing good about our meal was the one beer. The hush puppies were frozen before cooking and tasted like uncooked dough. Very disappointing experience this year. We've been coming to Blue Crab for years, but the service and quality of food has gone downhill. We were told there were only hightop tables by the bar available and then walked past empty tables in the dining room. The tuna was beyond dry and the crab cakes were eh. The food was not worth what they charged compared to how much better the same meals are across the street. Our server gave us the wrong check and charged our card before coming over with the correct check. Rather than writing off the difference for her mistake, the manager came over and charged our card AGAIN so we paid for 1 1/2 times our meal. Safe to say we will not be coming back to Blue Crab next year. There are far better restaurants with friendlier and more apt servers in Bethany. Skip this one. read more

Pretty impressive but limited menu here. My wife had the seafood pizza which she was happy with. We also split a cream of crab soup which was decent. The highlight for me was the fish of the day. It happened to be red snapper. It Was prepared perfectly. They put some kind of pico de mayo on it which I didn't really care for and there was a lot oil/butter on the plate but it didn't take away from the flavor. Crabs were great! A little on the pricey side, but all-in-all, worth it. We called ahead to reserve a seat, so we didn't have to wait. When we arrive, we walked right to our seat...on a Saturday night! Service was excellent - waitress was pleasant. All in all a great place. read more

I figure most people come here for the crabs but this was convenient and close to where my boyfriend and I were staying and we just wanted something small. The complimentary chips and dip was pretty good. We had the fried shrimp appetizer which was good but too oily. Pretty much still served sitting in oil. We also had a salad which was delicious with the raspberry vinegarette. We ordered the crab cakes to share which turned out just okay...maybe even below average. With this being the first big weekend I'll give Blue Crab a bit of a pass. The staff was nice but must have been new because no one really took any initiative. I like the outside seating. It was cute, with individual bench seating. The inside of Blue Crab was very clean and that included the restrooms. The steamed seafood was good; we gave clams and shrimp. I had the stuffed flounder and I really was not impressed. I know it's not a 5 start restaurant but the presentation was amateur at best. Over all I'd say Blue Crab was average at best. Food was ok, service was terrible. They took our order and then stopped back 10 minutes later to correct the "catch of the day". Said they could make what we ordered, but the mahi would take 14 minutes to cook. 30 minutes after we first ordered our food still hadn't come. After having to check on the progress, they brought the food out finally with the only words of apology being, "sorry it took so long, but you should know mahi takes 25 minutes to cook. I have previously given Blue Crab 4 stars but over the 4th of July weekend the restaurant seemed off. More importantly the crabs in the all you can eat were really small and seemed reheated and stringy. Many were empty and grey/black inside. Was sick the next day and it didn't surprise me since the crabs were just not good. Beware. I may try again since I have been going for years and the owner is super nice. read more

Well, it wasn't that spectacular and actually it wasnt even great. It was average or even below average. We joked after we left that must be paying their (seasonal) employees or even a compnay to write these reviews. It really wasn't all what the reviews say. The cream of crab soup was OK, but a small bowl for $8 of soup is rediculous. The other stuff we order was just average. Go elsewhere I say. We won't be back. First time visit was such a good surprise! We walked in just kind of looking for a place and the atmosphere turned us off a bit so we left. We heard a group of people on the beach raving about the fried chicken the next day and so we went back, this time to stay. So glad we did! We had some of the best seasoned crabs ever, though they were a little overcooked and I loved the crab bisque. I would honestly say that for us, the highlight wasn't the crabs, but the fried chicken! I would never have guessed it, and I couldn't believe I was agreeing with the group we heard on the beach, but it's true. The chicken is hot, moist, flavorful, succulent! The corn is true, husk-on, cob fresh and the hush puppies were good, too! We typically have our night-out dinners at Mangos just a skip away, but this one just may give Mangos a run for our money! read more

This is the best restaurant in Bethany Beach. I travel a lot and eat out most days. The local feel of this place is what everyone wants when travelling. The service is exceptional. Dinner rush arrival, waited less time than they predicted which was nice. As previous reviewer mentioned there is a large playground right across the street. The perfect restaurant for a family, and you can eat without cleaning up the mess! Attentive service. Our waitress was from Moldova. The waitresses were primarily from Eastern European countries. If we couldn't find our waitress, another was happy to get something for us (in my experience, in most American restaurants they just act annoyed or say "ok I'll tell your waiter"...) Our waitress even let my husband have little samples of the beer before ordering a pitcher which was nice. I got the snow crab legs, yummy. Hub got fish of day, excellent. Kids got all you can eat shrimp and crabs (kids meals $15--for all you can eat is great I think!) The only disappointment was the size of the crabs. They only had mediums which I believe is the smallest size (why they don't just call them "small"....?) so there was little meat and my daughter tired quickly. Also the butter on the table is squeeze bottle parkay, so not butter... All in all it was a nice meal out with the family and a pleasant experience with good food. I've heard good things about this place but was disappointed to show up at 7:30pm on a Saturday to find 6 or 7 open tables and a 45 minute wait. They said the reason was they didn't have enough servers. That is poor management. So, we went down the road to Mickey's Family Crabhouse which was properly staffed and had no wait. My husband and I wanted to spend our last evening in Bethany Beach at a nice restaurant. Blue Crab turned out to be the perfect ending to a great weekend. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. on a Sunday and didn't have to wait to be seated. The waitress was friendly and immediately set a portion of their homemade potato chips and dip on our table. Our drinks were delivered quickly and the dinner followed soon after. I had the fish of the day - blackened tuna - cooked exactly to my specifications and served with rosemary potatoes and corn on the cob. Nothing was overcooked or under cooked. My husband had the crab cakes, rosemary potatoes and cole slaw. The food was delicious. Would have loved to try dessert, but we were too full. Maybe we'll go easy on the potato chips next time - we went through two servings! read more

My wife and two friends went to dinner at the Blue Crab. We were very interested in the B.C. due to the excellent reviews on Yelp. We arrived at the Blue Crab at 5pm on a week day very hungry. Two of us ordered all you can eat dinners and the other two ordered a regular dinner order. The food did not taste fresh from our experience that day. The shimp had a heavy seafood odor and taste. The waitress was very nice and helpful, but did screw up the placement of the food serveral times on the table. Which is fine, but wanted to report it. The sides were Hush Puppies, Corn and Fried Chicken. They were all very good to start the meal with. The steak dinner was not cooked correctly and the sides on the meal were not good at all. The prices seem very high, but you are paying for location, which is fine. Hopefully others will have a better experience then the four of us. 4 dinners with a couple of drinks was over 150.00. read more

Been coming to Bethany for 20 years and bought into the "Mickeys" hype the whole time. I tried something new this time, and glad I did. Great service, great food, great environment. I ordered the mussells, clams, and the AUCE crab and shrimp feast. It was all AWSOME. A suprise was the fried chicken that came with the AUCE crab and shrimp feast. The chicken alone is a reason to come here. It is the best tasting and most juicy around. read more
