With Reservations set, the evening starter was Grilled Wasabi Elk Filet. Having never experienced elk I must say what a zesty, delicious appetizer. A Must Have appetizer!! For the entree, I chose the Huckleberry Buffalo Tenderloin....My goodness people, what a dish to remember. The asparagus was perfectly cooked (I enjoy asparagus and too often restaurants for some reason over/under cook this veggie). The potato bake was just as tasty. For the Buffalo steak, it was so tender and flavorful. Being new to "wild game" I had the staff educate me with a recommendation of med rare preparation......Paired with a red vino the taste was incredible. I was suspicious of a "wild game" flavor, this wasn't the case at all. The desert chosen was a Goat Cheese-Cheese Cake with a huckleberry sauce. A velvety texture with an extraordinary taste combined with the huckleberry sauce.......I've never had cheesecake like this, WOW! If you appreciate fine dinning coupled with entrees that are prepared with a high level of attention to detail for the eyes and palate, then please stop and experience this staple in Jackson Hole WY. We came to visit Jackson for our anniversary and we chose The Blue Lion for our anniversary dinner. Everyone recommended this place, unfortunately we did not get why. The service was horrible. For this king of restaurant I expect service to be top notch and it was probably the worst service I've ever received. As a Montana native, it goes without saying that I love lamb....after a trip to the Blue Lion...I dream of lamb. It was easily the best lamb I have ever eaten. In fact, it was one of the top meat dishes I have ever eaten. When you're in Jackson, go to the Blue Lion and order the rack of lamb. You will not be disappointed. It will be better than you expect (even if you have high expectations). Other dishes are good. My wife's steak was cooked well and it was flavorful. The lamb is great. You won't have trouble finding a great bottle of wine to pair with dinner. The list is fairly strong. read more

Two stars. One for the food, which was fantastic, the other for Mike, our server. He could not have been nicer or more attentive, and his recommendations spot on. The rest of the experience was abysmal. Despite making the reservation over a month in advance, we (gf and me) were seated upstairs in a cramp attic next to a portable air conditioner and a family with three young children. When asked if we could have a table downstairs or on the patio, the hostess tersely said no and seemed insulted that I even had the audacity to ask. Afterwards, when I called to let management know about my experience, the hostess--recognizing it was me--made it clear that she would not be allowing me to speak with anyone except her and that calling back would be useless as she's the only one who answers calls. You can probably have a better experience than us, but just call ahead and make sure you're not going to be seated upstairs. read more

Went to this place with my mother who had been before. Already was set on the full rack of lamb chops and decided to add the rainbow trout for an additional 10.00! It was amazing, cooked to perfection. Salad was also good, had the sesame vinaigrette and of course can't go wrong with 460 bread made locally. To finish it off, I had the bread pudding which was amazing. Our server Caroline was just awesome. She works Mondays, so if that's when you are going, please ask for her. A cute and cosy building, an old house turned into a great restaurant location. The food is absolutely amazing. Great options. The staff knew their menu well and had a great suggestion of the 'stand out' meal choices to get. Service was very on point. They offered some good non-alcoholic cocktails. The only let down is that we felt like we were sitting on top of the people at the tables next to us, a little squishy, less privacy. Also a little on the higher end for $$$. read more

A great dining experience in Jackson! This is a very nice restaurant and reasonably priced by Jackson standards! Super cute outside patio. If you are looking for some great Elk, Buffalo or Lamb this is the place. They also have some nice seafood choices. We enjoyed the Elk app which was really one of the best things I have had in a long time!!! We also tried the trout and lamb at the recommendation of our server! Both were good. Simple presentation and came with veggies and rice! I do have to give guys in the kitchen 2 thumbs up for doing the lamb rare! So often I get lamb that is over cooked and then makes me so sad. We came to Jackson Hole for a vacation. It just happened to be at the time of our 47th Anniversary. This restaurant was closed on Tuesday our Anniversary but we called for reservations on Wednesday. No place at the inn. Got a 6 PM table on Thursday. Ushered upstairs to a 2-top against a wall which we shared with a huge 5 inch+ thick painting. Beside us were a couple at what would have been a 4-top but was set for two. No doubt locals known to management. I got bison tenderloin tips in mushroom gravy. The meat was to die for! Grilled asparagus and scalloped potatoes were the accompaniment My wife got a 14oz rib eye plainly grilled to perfection. The food quality was great; however we felt our presence was not appreciated as if we were relegated to the children's table. I had thought about posting a few photos but the picture wouldn't give me room. Lol. read more

Nice little dinner spot in Jackson, WY. The restaurant is converted from an old house, and has a large outdoor patio seating area. The buffalo ravioli is excellent. Three large raviolis filled with coarsest ground buffalo over a very tasty bolognese sauce. If it was 6x bigger, it would be a great main course. The buffalo tenderloin was very good, but I thought the Cajun preparation, although tasty, overpowered the natural flavor of the meat. The steak was cooked medium rare perfectly. The accompanying mashed potatoes were good, but the sautéed green beans were not great. I chocked them down the for sale of my fiber intake. For dessert, I had tiramisu. Quite good, and I devoured it all. Overall, this is a very nice place. The steak was very nice, but certainly not as good as a fine steak house. I will have to try the rack of lamb next time I visit. read more

This must be a very popular place to dine at in downtown Jackson Hole as we could only get in at 5:30p for dinner as the rest of the evening was booked. The restaurant is located in what was once was a house. We initially were seated in the covered back porch area, but the chairs were so low to the tabletop that I wouldn't be able to eat. Fortunately, they did switch us into the house when I asked so I could enjoy my dinner at a decent level. Jim was our server and provided good service. My husband and I started with their gin basil cocktail...so good! I went specifically for their tequila lime Idaho trout, which didn't disappoint. It was a huge portion and was perfectly prepared...moist and flaky. The citrus sauce was a wonderful addition. My husband's elk tenderloin was cooked to medium rare and was so flavorful and tender. Our entrees came with asparagus and potatoes and a side salad. It was a delicious dining experience and I was so glad we were able to find a table. I suggest making reservations early so you have a better choice of dining times. A great recommendation from our innkeeper. read more

What an incredible experience, they are known for their lamb & I was not disappointed. Stuffed mushrooms, basil peppercorn salad & rosemary bread were all delicious starters. The patio was great to sit out on, it started cool & they had everything you need to stay warm. When the sun came back out they opened it again, beautiful. We've also decided that elk and bison or both inferior to cow. But What are the lamb, come to the brown saws with peppercorns and a jalapeño sauce snap peas mashed taters. Highly recommended! We didn't end up eating here as we came by late, but the drinks were outstanding! Our bartender, Zack, crafted a delicious gin martini with basil and lime and let me tell you.. I've never had anything like it! They use a lot of spirits from local distilleries which adds a cool element - we love local & supporting small shops. He was also very knowledgeable and had great suggestions for what to do during our stay in Jackson. We want to plan a second trip to explore some of the white water rafting in the area thanks to his recommendations. Atmosphere wise, this place is great. Small and cozy, perfect for date night. We had dinner here last night. It's such a quaint restaurant. It's very comfortable and inviting. First, let me say, the service was spectacular. We were attended to every little need. Water glasses were constantly refilled but we never felt anyone was hovering over us. Our waitress was absolutely adorable! Now the food. From the bread to the meals..it was all delicious. The duck cakes were unusual but very tasty. The house salads with pecans.. YUM. Our meals of trout, elk and scallops were all delicious. We nearly licked the plates. Imagine making two consecutive reservations at the same restaurant, because the rack of lamb was THAT good. Night one... filet of lamb, past good... fabulous. Night two.. filet of fat..... first bite, a bit chewy... but crust covered up offense. Rest had excessive fat, which I cut away.... My mistake! Usually, you enjoy to the very bone. However, I did let the Manager know .... And that's why the two stars. Not a bit concerned... even though he clearly saw the pile of fat. Clearly, that rack should never have hit the kitchen, nor served... nor eaten. At $56 for an entree....everyone ( me too), should have known better. But...I don't own the Blue Lion! read more

After a disappointing dinner the night prior we decided to ask our Inn where to eat locally and she recommended The Blue Lion. It dd not disappoint! We were seated upstairs. Acoustics were great, could easily hold a conversation. The waitress was attentive and very pleasant and very accommodating! We ordered two different fish entrees, salmon (miso honey glazed) and halibut (sun dried tomato and capers) came with a starch and veggie (asparagus and rice) as well as a salad. It was all delicious and filling , unfortunately no room for dessert. Had wanted to try the Eskimo Pie but no room, had heard good things! Enjoyed the live acoustic guitar too! They open at 5:30. We arrived at 5:37. Two other couples walked in and were seated. When it was our turn we were asked for a reservation. He put down the menus and walked behind the counter a woman rushed over and asked him what's wrong. We couldn't here the exchange, however she asked us for a name & phone number because she cannot seat us. They are fully booked and maybe later? You know I passed by later. There were seats. I am glad I didn't eat there if they are forced to feed me there's no telling what they might do to my food. I will NEVER return ~ read more

A flavorful meal in relaxing setting Husband and I managed to get a last-minute reservation at 8:45pm. I was worried we would be hurried through our meal since the restaurant closes at 9pm. I need not have been. In fact, several other couples were seated around the same time and appeared to be enjoying their evening. We were seated on the patio. It was nicely lighted and heated. There was a terrific acoustic guitar player! Usually I don't like sitting close to live music because it is often too loud and diners are compelled to raise their voices to be heard. This was not the case. In fact, he actually could have played louder. I want to stress that the guitarist was great and had an excellent play list that enhanced our dining experience. Kudos to the artist. The service was very efficient. The pacing of our experience was perfect from the time we sat down until our departure 1.25 hours later. We always had every utensil, beverage, etc. when needed. The patio was full but relatively quiet, as diners spoke softly. I think most were enjoying the music, as were we. Thus, not a lot of extra chit chat with our waiter. He was knowledgeable in answering our questions and helped us choose our meals. So nice that the entrees included salad, fresh vegetables and rice. I had the lamb chops, which are a house specialty. The chops were plated on a peppercorn sauce that I didn't care for. For me, it tasted bitter and a bit sour. Fortunately, the chops were on top of the sauce and was not drenching the chops. I enjoyed the saucer of mint sauce that was served on the side of the chops. Wonderful delicate mint flavor. The chops came out a perfect medium rare and were tender. My husband loved his fresh Idaho trout. The freshness of the fish was all the flavor needed! My husband also loved the rice that came with the entrees - a very moistbrown rice with mushrooms. I was happy to have fresh broccoli. The desserts looked tasty but we were full and passed. We enjoyed our meal and felt the price points were reasonable. For comparison, we ate at Rendezvous Bistro a few nights earlier - same price points but the food was terrible and not a particularly pleasant ambiance. We had a great experience at The Blue Lion. We walked in on a Thursday night and they were able to seat us without reservations. With a large menu it was hard to decide what to order -- everything sounded delicious! If you aren't a red meat eater, I wouldn't worry too much. I had the almond crusted halibut and it was one of the best dishes I ever had. The portions are big and the dressings are made in house. How I haven't heard about this place in all the years I've been visiting Jackson? I don't know but I'm glad a local recommended it to me. Great service, great food, drinks, wine and dessert. They are famous for their lamb and I'm not much of a lamb person but had to try it. It was good but not better than others I've had (for example Batallion in San Antonio). The menu was very promising and hard to make a decision. The Tiramisu was GREAT and the margaritas strong. Overall too structured for me, you only get in with reservation and a little too formal but nevertheless worth the try. Would definitely be back for more of that extensive menu! read more

We live in the Bay Area and are surrounded by amazing restaurants and this was truly one of the best meals my husband and I have ever had. Each dish from the stuffed mushrooms to the salad to the pasta was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The service was great. And the patio was charming (though the tables and chairs could use an upgrade). Setting reservations was easy. Over the phone staff were helpful & friendly. Maitre D' was accommodating. Service however was underwhelming. Rob was our server and apparently also the manager (for 14 years according to him). He was bland, not very enthusiastic and lacked attentiveness. Food quality was a 6.8/10. Sour dough bread was cold, duck cake appetizer was good but the wasabi elk was cold as well. Too much fish sauce. Lamb was recommended but Rob wasn't much help after that. Skipped desert. Tourist Trap! Don't go. The food was so-so but I have to say the customer service was terrible. We had an average enough dinner. We were there on vacation with family. We split dinner that night and our card was over-charged by almost $300. I know people make mistakes but no one mentioned what happened, so as we were driving away I received a notification from my bank. So I called the restaurant back and they immediately knew what I was talking about and explained they mistakenly charged one of the cards twice and had already backed it out. Great, but why didn't they tell us? Very rude. And no apology, just a straightforward explanation. Three days later the charge had not been removed so I called back to speak to a manager. I think her name was Amber or Angela. She also did not offer any apology but was short and said that I needed to contact my bank if it remained on my account summary. She reluctantly said she could possibly call the bank herself but that I needed to check again the next day and call her again if still hadn't been worked out. So no apology and I still needed to more leg work for their mistake. I guess they don't really care about customer service because we were travelers but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone else. The food was very sub par. Go to Snake River Grille instead or The Kitchen. Also, their decor is very out of date. read more

We are new owners in JH and excited to experience the local culinary scene and have heard The Blue Lion was a must visit. We must have misunderstood. There wasn't much to like about this restaurant. Definitely, wanted to like it with the great suggestions and reviews. We were celebrating our anniversary and made it clear when we made reservations, which is why they have us the window seat in the front of the restaurant. Our waiter, Weaver, approached us without any introduction nor asking if we have ever been there or if we were celebrating anything or any dietary restrictions. We ordered a bottle of Cooper Mountain Pinot Noir, which was fantastic. For my entree, I ordered the elk medium and it came out medium rare. My husband ordered the beef filet medium well and it was served clearly well done. Weaver served the plates and walked away quickly without checking if it was to our liking nor coming back to ask if it was ok. I waved him down and showed him how excessively over cooked it was and asked for some sauce but he offered no apology other than he would offer to take it back to have it remade. Instead we opted for a side of garlic wine sauce. We ate what we could and the staff took the plates and walked away. Weaver brought a dessert menu and again no mention of an anniversary or an apology for under and over cooking our meals. In fairness to the restaurant, it was crowded so there must be something good about this place but we surely didn't experience it. We ate at Teton Tiger the night before and the difference was night and day in terms of quality of service, quality customer service and quality of meal. Blue Lion may have a following by some but we wanted to share the experience we had in the hopes it helps the restaurant improve. read more

We came here last year for New Year's Eve and had to come back this year when in Jackson Hole! The cozy foyer is perfect for enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail - we had the bloody orange margaritas that were delicious! The restaurant itself has an intimate setting and limited seating. The crab cake appetizer was really delicious! We followed with an order of Lamb (a must-have here) and an order of Elk, both done Medium Rare. Each entree comes with a dinner salad (the roasted tomato dressing is amazing) and a starch and a vegetable. The portions are very healthy- so much so that we took a decent amount home to enjoy the next day. We opted for espresso martinis as our dessert - de-lish!!
