Disappointed with our experience after looking for a romantic evening with high quality food. Server seemed a bit timid, did not introduce himself, never learned his name, did not make much effort to connect with us. Wasabi elk was a solid first course, baked brie on the other hand was a bit too firm in the middle, outside portion was tasty with the raspberry jam, but underneath was a bed of onions that gave an overly smokey flavor and did not pair well with the sweetness of the jam. Worst part of the experience was the salmon. My date was picking at it very lightly, so I asked if she liked it, and she said not particularly - I tried it out of curiosity, and it had a rancid, chlorine like aftertaste that made it entirely inedible. I asked the server and manager (who also didn't introduce himself, never learned his name) if there was anything we could do (we were the last guests so I assumed the kitchen staff had began to close up) and they said they'd be happy to fire something else for us (solid effort, we were assuming they had already shut down and were googling late night pizza places). My date got the salt and vinegar halibut per our server's recommendation, which was very good, but they charged us for the halibut, and comped the salmon when we got the bill. The salmon was $32 and the halibut was $45 so to be charged an additional $13 after Blue Lion's error (we overheard the kitchen staff saying the grill had a lot of built up char contributing to the horrible taste) this felt really disappointing, especially after our server and the manager seemed like they were on our side and were trying to make things right. I would've expected both the salmon and halibut to be taken care of by the house (or the halibut at least partially discounted to the price of the salmon) to make up for their error. Overall we were disappointed in the quality of the food (my steak was good but not worth nearly $60, maybe around $40) so we skipped dessert. All the main courses also came with a house salad that looked like it came out of a plastic bag from a grocery store, I was surprised there were not more options for sides/vegetables available. Management definitely could've made it right and corrected our experience, but felt like a bit of a slap in the face to be charged full price of a more expensive dish after my date's first order was completely inedible. Jackson does not have a lot of fine dining options, but I can't justify the $250 price tag for a dinner for two here. read more

This is a really lovely local restaurant in a converted house in downtown Jackson Hole. Everything was truly delicious and the service was fantastic. Based on things we'd read online, we ordered the rack of lamb; it did not disappoint. Don't miss the option to add trout to any entree; it was perfectly prepared and absolutely amazing. The only reason this restaurant cant have 5 stars is due to the split plate fee. We ordered several appetizers and salads with the full rack of lamb with add on trout. It was a ton of food for two people due to the appetizers, and we still got out with the split plate fee. I suppose one of us should have specified an appetizer as our meal? I know this is typical in fine dining, but discretion should be shown when people are clearly trying to sample as much of the menu as possible. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this upscale restaurant on our second day in JH. My wife ordered the Marsala Florentine with chicken and I the Lobster & Shrimp Scampi. Both entrees came with a very good mixed greens salad starter. We each had a glass of red wine. Chicken, seafood and pasta were cooked perfectly and were excellent. Plenty of tasty sauce on each plate. No entree is more than 50 bucks, which is very good for an upscale restaurant. Service was also excellent. Located in an old house, the decor is typical Wyoming with a very relaxing ambience. If ever in JH again, we would return. read more

I had read mixed reviews about poor service here but I didn't experience any of that! We made reservations the same day and had no issues getting in. We had heard great things about the rack of lamb so we wanted to check it out. We were seated immediately on the second floor which I read some people complained about being seated at. I really didn't mind, it felt like a cozy hidden nook or attic to be honest. Our server was also really good and attentive so no complaints there! We were in and out in maybe an hour?? We ordered the chili as an appetizer and had the rack of lamb and gumbo as entrees. I also had the huckleberry lemon drop which was yummmmy! The lamb was really good and tender, not over cooked at all. The gumbo was good too and we took home leftovers. This was our first time in Jackson and the blue lion came highly recommended by my in-laws who have been coming for the art festival for many years, so we were excited to try it. When we called to see if a table on the patio was available bc we have a toddler the staff was not helpful and told us there was only one table and it was reserved. In reality there were several open tables, but perhaps there was not an adequate amount of wait staff scheduled for the dinner shift. We arrived on time and walked in with said toddler in a small umbrella stroller. We were not offered a high chair or a kids menu and received quite a bit of attitude from the man at the host stand. The restaurant is very dark and cramped with several small dining spaces. We happened to be seated in a section with an elderly couple that was doing their best impression of Jeff Dunham's puppet Walter. The one bright point was that our waiter was very helpful. Our child literally did not make a peep, and to ensure she would not get fussy, I took her to the playground between salads and main course. In my absence I was informed that the same host came to the table and in a very disdainful tone asked if we could "do something with that" referring to the stroller that was literally pushed as far as it could go under the table. Overrated, overpriced with an under staffed crew who are probably under appreciated and under paid by ownership. The Blue Lion used to be the date night spot. Recently went here for Valentines dinner with my wife and was immensely disappointed. The set menu offered a wide variety of tasty sounding appetizers, salads, main courses, dessert to pick from along with a $50 wine pairing. When dining out in Jackson, you can expect to pay top dollar for good food and good service. Neither of those accompanied the almost $500 bill. The food was okay, but the wine pairing always arrived late. The food was bland, cold or both. On top of all of this, the price was never disclosed for the set menu (although the $50 wine pairing was mentioned on social media). Normally spending $190 a person with wine will yield amazing results at the Snake River Grill or Local. Spending that much at the Blue Lion used to come with great service and food, but this last experience will be our last at Jackson's oldest restaurant located conveniently in my grandmothers living room. Found this place after visiting Yellowstone Park and Grand Teton Park. It looks really small from the outside but it's not as small as it looks. Our server was Derrick who I felt was very polite and professional. Upon being told it was our first time here, he recommended a few dishes to us and explained the menu. Every entree comes with a free side of salad. There is also complimentary bread and butter. We ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms, Roast Rack of Lamb, Lobster and Shrimp Scampi, and Miso Glazed Skuna Bay Salmon. Total was around $160 (incl tip). It's written on the reciept and the server reminded us that gratituity was included. The mushrooms were very good. Lots of butter and a little salty though. The lamb rack were good. Very tender. Other people seemed to like the sauce but my family didn't lol. The lobster shrimp scampi came with fetticcine pasta. The lobster tasted weird, it was loose like crab meat so I'm not sure if it was fresh. The shrimps on the other hand tasted amazing. The pasta itself was a little bland so it could use more flavor. The miso salmon is sweet and crispy on the outside. I'm not a big fan of salmon but it's not bad. Overall not a bad place at all. read more

Very homey and welcoming restaurant with a fantastic lineup of entrees. I had the grilled elk tenderloin and it was perfectly cooked at medium rare and had amazing flavor, as did the steamed vegetables side dish. The desserts were also great and I know that the buffalo tenderloin with huckleberry sauce was another fan favorite of my dinner party. The staff was also very nice and hospitable and the ambiance felt very western and what you'd expect to find in old town Jackson Hole, topped off with a solo guitarist playing in the guitar. Lamb is my favorite meat but I have never had a good meal with lamb in America until last night. The rack of lamb was superb, as good as any lamb I have ever had. I enjoyed it so much we made another reservation for our last night in Jackson. The buffalo minestrone soup was also delicious - a rich flavorful broth that I will also be having again. Hubby had the salmon and enjoyed it but plans to order the lamb next time - this from a man who "doesn't like" lamb. The asparagus was perfectly cooked (I enjoy asparagus and too often restaurants for some reason over/under cook this veggie). The potato bake was just as tasty. For the Buffalo steak, it was so tender and flavorful. Being new to "wild game" I had the staff educate me with a recommendation of med rare preparation......Paired with a red vino the taste was incredible. I was suspicious of a "wild game" flavor, this wasn't the case at all. The desert chosen was a Goat Cheese-Cheese Cake with a huckleberry sauce. A velvety texture with an extraordinary taste combined with the huckleberry sauce.......I've never had cheesecake like this, WOW! If you appreciate fine dinning coupled with entrees that are prepared with a high level of attention to detail for the eyes and palate, then please stop and experience this staple in Jackson Hole WY. I didn't realize that restaurants had long been short changing me. When you order rack of lamb typically you get a couple lamb chops, but at The Blue Lion they take this request far more seriously. Here you get literally an *entire* rack of lamb. This was much more food than I could take down, though my buddy aced this eating competition with flying colors. Two stars. One for the food, which was fantastic, the other for Mike, our server. He could not have been nicer or more attentive, and his recommendations spot on. The rest of the experience was abysmal. Despite making the reservation over a month in advance, we (gf and me) were seated upstairs in a cramp attic next to a portable air conditioner and a family with three young children. When asked if we could have a table downstairs or on the patio, the hostess tersely said no and seemed insulted that I even had the audacity to ask. Afterwards, when I called to let management know about my experience, the hostess--recognizing it was me--made it clear that she would not be allowing me to speak with anyone except her and that calling back would be useless as she's the only one who answers calls. You can probably have a better experience than us, but just call ahead and make sure you're not going to be seated upstairs. read more

Went to this place with my mother who had been before. Already was set on the full rack of lamb chops and decided to add the rainbow trout for an additional 10.00! It was amazing, cooked to perfection. Salad was also good, had the sesame vinaigrette and of course can't go wrong with 460 bread made locally. Although the deck was closed during the off season. We went for the 2 for one specials. Live music, classical guitar Muzak version of popular music playing in the front. We were seated in the back corner on the first floor looking out on the deck. Very cozy. The sommelier walked us thru the wine list. Very knowledgable. Food was great. We started off with the Brie. Entrees were, Cajun Beef Tenderloin, Elk and a Rack of Lamb. The place is known for the Lamb. The serving was huge. All meat was done to a turn. Moist and flavorful. Deserts were decade Et. We finished with chocolate cake and coffee. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. A delightful dining experience. A cute and cosy building, an old house turned into a great restaurant location. The food is absolutely amazing. Great options. The staff knew their menu well and had a great suggestion of the 'stand out' meal choices to get. Service was very on point. They offered some good non-alcoholic cocktails. As a Montana native, it goes without saying that I love lamb....after a trip to the Blue Lion...I dream of lamb. It was easily the best lamb I have ever eaten. In fact, it was one of the top meat dishes I have ever eaten. When you're in Jackson, go to the Blue Lion and order the rack of lamb. You will not be disappointed. It will be better than you expect (even if you have high expectations). Other dishes are good. My wife's steak was cooked well and it was flavorful. The lamb is great. You won't have trouble finding a great bottle of wine to pair with dinner. The list is fairly strong. read more
