We ended up here super randomly after visiting the Met Cloisters, we took a city bus from there, got dropped off at some random park, and while walking around, we stumbled upon this cute little restaurant for lunch. There was only one guy running the whole place, seating people, taking orders, bringing out food, and even helping in the kitchen. He was working so hard. I made a reservation for Saturday, May 30 through Resy three days in advance for Bonnefont Restaurant in Fort Tryon Park to celebrate a birthday. On the way there, we were delayed by unexpected traffic caused by a nearby apartment fire. As soon as I realized we would be late, I called the restaurant. After four attempts, someone finally answered with a simple "Hello," rather than identifying the restaurant. I explained that we would be about 15 minutes late and was told that would be "no problem." We arrived at 8:20 p.m., approximately 20 minutes after our reservation time. No one acknowledged our presence when we entered. After we decided to leave, someone came outside and informed us that because we were 20 minutes late versus 15 minutes, the chef had closed the kitchen, although they would "try to convince him" to reopen it. When I pointed out that both Resy and the restaurant's website listed a 9:00 p.m. closing time, I was told those hours had been outdated for more than a year. Despite having a reservation and calling ahead to notify the restaurant of our delay, we were unable to dine there. We ended up making a last-minute reservation at another nearby restaurant that seemed much happier to have our business. Bonnefont may serve excellent food, but hospitality is about more than what's on the plate. Even though we made reservations, we still had to wait for our table to be prepared. Indoors is also very dark. Service: 4/10 Service is slow. I don't suggest going here if you have a major appointment to go to afterward. We were seated outdoors, and we're put on the "special table" that had a mosquito net. If you like to take your time and enjoy listening to birds chirping, then you might enjoy this spot. We put an order for our drinks but then had to wait a few more minutes to put our food order in. We basically waited one hour for our food to come (not exaggerating). I had to wave my arms multiple times to get attention from the staff. You will not be checked on frequently. Food: 8/10 Food was just enough, and delicious. But nothing outstanding. We went for weekend brunch. The Butternut Squash Gratin (not pictured), was our favorite dish. My friend and I stumbled upon this place one evening. When we got there they told us the kitchen had just closed because it was a slower night but they decided to open the kitchen back up just for us. We had an amazing experience at The Bonnefont last night--our first "date night" since welcoming a baby and it was a wonderful evening out. The ambiance is really nice, with thoughtful details and great music. The food is truly exceptional--we started with the charcuterie platter which had an amazing assortment of meat and was presented really beautifully. I had the mussels as a main dish which came as a huge portion with lots of crispy garlic bread. My husband had the beef and we shared a chocolate soufflé dessert. The service was also spot on--the bartender suggested a drink and introduced my cocktail connoisseur husband to the white negroni, which he loved. He and our server were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. A very festive and celebratory evening out in a magical location. After a lovely visit at the Cloisters, my wife and good friends decided we should get something to eat. The Bonnefont is a short walk from the Cloisters, so we decided to try it out. We were quickly greeted by the host and seated immediately. This was the last quick thing that happened during our "dining" experience. After being seated for a while, and chatting with our good friends, our stomachs started to grumble and we realized that nobody had come to take our order. My friend stopped one of the waitresses and asked her if she could be our waitress. She said she could be if we were ready to order. She did return shortly to take our orders. We ordered a pastry with fruit, which we all shared. It was pretty good. Our oh-so-complex order was two frittatas, one without cream cheese, a florentine eggs benedict and a savory crepe. Apparently, the kitchen needed to go out, find a chicken to impregnate and wait for the eggs to hatch and for the chick to grow, so I could have the chicken that was part of my crepe. Thank goodness none of us has diabetes, because I am not sure we could have possibly regulated our sugar levels given how long it took for our food to find its way to us. We asked a couple of times where our food was, and I get the strong feeling until that happened, they must have had a restaurant-wide pool,over how long our table would wait before losing it. Finally, after solving world hunger, but not ours, the food arrived. The no cream cheese frittata - you might find this hard to believe - had cream cheese in it. The florentine eggs Benedict had still frozen spinach on it plus a hard boiled poached egg. Shocking, isn't it? We did have several members of the staff come by and ask how everything was. I guess they couldn't be sure after we told the waitress about the wrong order and frozen spinach. They did offer us some vanilla gelato, but we didn't want to miss the whole summer waiting for it. At least they didn't charge us for the one frittata. My friends did say their frittatas were pretty good. The chicken in my crepe was over done and you already know about the eggs Benedict. And to top it all off, apparently the ladies room had the trifecta: dirty, no paper towels or any other way to dry your hands and an over flowing trash can. Located on top of beautiful Fort Tryon Park in Washington Heights, the restaurant is housed in a spacious early-20th century wood-beamed, high ceiling building originally used by park maintenance. A short walk in the surrounding wooded area affords spectacular views from one of the highest points in Manhattan. The boeuf bourguignon was excellent as was the lamb shank and the chocolate nuage dessert. Service was friendly and efficient. My wife and I went here for the first time Friday night. It was fantastic, so I am taking to Yelp for one of the few times in my life. A hidden gem up in the wilds of Ft Tryon park. it was quiet on Friday night so we got a lot of extra attention from the bar manager, Logan, who was amazing, and also had brought in an eclectic pile of vinyl he was spinning from the bar, picking new records in between courses. How cool is that? The food was sublime (a word I rarely use). I never would have thought a mushroom soup would blow my mind, but the tri-mushroom in broth did just that. Amazing mussels. Loved my roasted acorn squash with chutney. And can't forget to mention the setting, a gorgeous historic Rockefeller era "cottage". I felt like I had time traveled back to the 1920s.
