My friend took me here after I helped her painting and cleaning her house. I love seafood so this seems to be the perfect place for me. We got lobster dainties, clams, mussels, baked oysters. I still drooled just to think of it. My favorite is the oysters. My least favorite is the clams, they are a bit chewy. The other bad thing is they only do cash only. I don't normally has cash on me. Fish was very good, fresh cut frys. Very good. I pulled up to restraunt call and like magic my dinners appreared. Saturday, do I want to cook- ahh No. We had the prime rib sandwich on toasted roll with Aujus, horseradish and a pickle. Southern style boiled shrimp in butter and old bay spicy, wings. All tasty. Solid 5 on the food but a 3 on the service. The manner in which we were "greeted" and eventually sat was uncomfortable. It was almost as though we were interrupting the man's night by daring to show up. Once we were seated he repeatedly told us to be patient as they were short staffed. I assume his frustration was not meant for us but still unsettling. The waitress came rather quickly but flew away when we couldn't immediately order once told that the haddock and baked potato was sold out. We had to rethink our order and ultimately picked steamed clams, casino, red shrimp, scallops and coconut shrimp. All was well prepared and fresh. Well let me tell you... You could cut the tension with a knife in this place from the minute we walked in until the moment we left. Please keep in mind while you read this, that me and my girlfriend are an inter-racial couple. 1st: We walk in and are greeted by the hostess. She looks to her waitress and asks if they are still taking people... it was 8pm and they don't close until 10pm. RED FLAG #1. 2nd: The hostess sits us in the back corner of the room. Not red flag worthy but still a little interesting given the other tables were available. 3rd: The customers sitting near us were talking using culturally insensitive racial terminology. RED FLAG #2 4th: The waitresses go out of their way, to serve every table except ours, including providing refills on beverages at other tables. Keep in mind we haven't even been asked what we would like to order/drink yet. RED FLAG #3 5th: The hostess looks right at us several times for the 15 minutes we were sitting at our table, and never once came to see if we were served. RED FLAG #4 6th: When we finally felt so uncomfortable we had to leave, as we were walking out, no one said anything or inquired into why were were leaving. RED FLAG #5 You be the judge of how you would interpret that experience if you were in our shoes. I was born in Buffalo in 1961. I grew up there. As a teen I left and moved to New York City. Since then I have lived in Rome, Paris, Los Angeles, and Tucson Arizona. Over the years when I'm rarely sentimental about Buffalo, I basically think about the food I loved there. I remember at 12 years old, with my own hard earned snow shoveling money purchasing my first order of chicken wings from the old Edwardo's Pizza on Eggert Road. Amazing and the best I've ever had. A few days and a few driveway shovelings later, I purchased two roast beef on wick sandwiches on Bailey Ave. I was Buffalo food obsessed. By 9th grade I was often crossing town on my mini bike all the way to the first Mighty Taco location. In 1997 I shot my film "Buffalo 66" in my hometown of Buffalo NY. During my short breaks between filming I travelled around town eating all the Buffalo classics. And also looking up pretty girls I remembered from childhood. Sadly in 1997, the food in Buffalo was not the same as I remembered from way back when. Chicken wings in Buffalo had become nothing special. All the old great spots were gone or had become pale. The one paper town's Buffalo news was worse than ever and still letting an illiterate amateur like Jeff Simon publish his petty babble. For many years after premiering "Buffalo 66" at the North Park Theater I did not return to visit Buffalo again. What for without good food? To me Buffalo food had become average. And to make visiting Buffalo worse, all the pretty girls I remembered from high school were married, gay, fat, or fat gay and married. And three wrongs don't make a right, right? In any case, several years ago in spite of my aversion to the city I decided anyway to visit my wonderful mother there. By the time I arrived at her house in Williamsville I was starving. I said hello and insisted we immediately go out to eat. My mother directed me to Boston Hotel's Steak & Crab House. When we pulled up I was skeptical. However after just one meal there the place became my favorite restaurant in the world. Six months ago I was working in New York City. One morning I had a jones for Lobster Dainties. I drove 858 miles roundtrip to Boston Hotel's Steak & Crab House and ate several pounds of food while I was there. My mother, who can really eat, joined me. To top it off the service was, as always, great. Buffalo may have the worst newspaper, the halitosis breathed critic Jeff Simon, radio's biggest queer Sandy Beach, and the world record of four straight Super Bowl losses. First: It was a nice day so my husband, son and I requested to be seated outside. When the hostess glanced out the door and saw only one long "beer pong" table and a few tables that only had two chairs at them, she immediately decided "there was no room outside for a party of three". Lol I told her to pull the table away from the wall, since there is clearly enough room and it will not cause a fire hazard, and add an extra place mat and chair. She then loudly sighed her displeasure at me. I laughed. Strike one! Second, the table we then were seated at, was disgusting and sticky. Not only is this place a greasy spoon, which I can appreciate, but they left the film on all the tables, chairs, and dining ware. Strike two. Third, I waited, twenty minutes for a glass of water, and also to see our waitress again. She like many of the others reviewed on here, seemed to be playing hide and go seek, on her own, since we were too busy getting "hangrier" by the second. Strike Three!! So now that I'm starving, arms sticking to the table, thirsty, and contemplating just walking out, our food finally arrives. 1 hour after being seated. Whatever the greasy yellow crud in the plastic dressing container and scampi dish is, it's definitely not butter. It was gross. The lobster tail, and clams casino were over done. The tail was chewy and hard to cut through with a butter knife. The haddock was tasty however, as well as the scallops and shrimp. Not a complete failure, but we've had better! There's only three strikes in baseball so I'll wrap it up by saying "Epic Fail"! There is soooooo much room for improvement, almost too much room. I have had dinner here 2 times in the last 6 days. We ate dinner Saturday night with my neighbors and then again tonight with my wife and daughter. Both times we had the same waitress, and both dinners were very good. Service is nice, food is well priced and it tasted great. Had stuffed haddock one night and Salmon with salsa on the other night My wife had the stuffed haddock then enjoyed the typical buffalo breaded fish fry. I know it sounds crazy but, that was the best dish of food I have ate in a long time. Its cash only and the place could use a good interior update, and that is why I gave it a 4. I came here for their Monday night special: $2.99 for a dozen clams, 70 cent wings (10 min), and $4.99 for a crab cluster. While it all seems like a great deal, the reality is: * The raw clams are questionable. They don't taste fresh. The steamed ones were super chewy. * The crab cluster is okay. $4.99 isn't really that great of a deal. The worst part is they don't supply you with a crab cracker to break the shell. You have to do it with your hands and fork. * The wings are small. The medium is not saucy at all. We ordered 40 of them for $28. It's not that a great a deal when you are ordering quantity. In fact, a bucket generally costs around $40 anyway. If you're looking to eat more than 10 wings, go somewhere else. The worst part of it at all? They refuse to serve you tap water and claim "they don't do that on Mondays." Apparently, the deals are so great...that you MUST buy bottled water. What?! That's ridiculous. Our group had a fun time here. The service was fine, but these policies of not serving tap water and not having enough crab cracker tools are craaa-zy. Finally saw a couple of waitresses but no one greeted us or asked us if we wanted to be seated. My friend had to ask an unfriendly waitress (not ours) to put our name down. I had to ask her a question at the end of the night too and she was just awkward. I could barely hear her response as she was avoiding eye contact and talking to the paper...I wasn't sure whether she answered me or not so I went looking for another waitress. She did handle it even though I didn't know whether she was going to or not based on the lack of acknowledgement. The vibe that I got from this place is that the they are straight forward, no BS, and time is of the essence. People should know what they want without asking for suggestions or questions. Now, they were bustling around because they were busy so I understand that it's not feasible to hold a convo when they have other tables to serve. Service got better as the night went on and the tables started to clear out. Our waitress was quick; she came around before our beer bottles were empty and was accommodating when we ordered more food as the night went on. Raw oysters - $10/dz. They were clean, reasonably sized, and cheap. Add a dollop of cocktail sauce for flavor. This was the main reason why we came so we ordered a few dozen and the price was worth it. Broiled seafood platter - $25. This dish came with shrimp, scallops, fresh haddock, clams casino, lobster tail and an option of a side of french fries, baked potato, salt potatoes, or coleslaw. The scallops (4) and shrimp (4) were seasoned a butter sauce topped with crumbs and parmesan. The clams casino (3) stuffing was mushy with some grit here and there. I wasn't a fan. The flavor was a little salty and it had a robust seafood flavor with a few bacon bits in the mix. The halibut was cooked well and had a very mild to no flavor. It included a side of tartar sauce, which was mayo with a strong dill and vinegar flavor. I enjoyed the lobster tail. It was cooked well and naturally sweet by itself. No butter needed. It had the best flavor out of the entire dish. The corn tasted like it was boiled in water and mixed with butter (the only seasoning) after they were drained. The potatoes were cooked well, but again, there was no seasoning. Everything seemed like it was served plain and the flavor was added through the side sauces, salt, pepper, lemon juice, vinegar, hot sauce and ketchup on the table. I would've rated this place a 3, but they lost a half star when they told us that they didn't accept the advertised Groupon because "it was for the Boston location, not Lancaster." Why would a Groupon for Boston come up when the location is set for ROC and nearby locations? Maybe it was Groupon's error because I thought I saw the Lancaster location when it was advertised. *Shrug* Luckily, my friend was able to get a refund from Groupon. read more

I recently visited this place about two weeks ago with a friend. He wanted some cheap seafood and suggested we try this place out considering they have great steak. We walked in and took a seat that the bar considering there was a hockey game on I wanted to be able to watch it. The bartender was super nice and we loved him, very helpful as well. I ordered a jack and Coke and my friend got a beer. My jack and Coke was perfectly made and every time my glass was empty he noticed right away. So hats off to you bartender! My friend ordered the surf and turf medium rare and I ordered the seafood platter. Both meals were out in no time, great! My friends steak looked AWESOME my seafood platter, not so much. The lobster tail was cold and tasteless and the same goes for the fish. The clams casino was way too salty and I could barely stomach it. I will say that the things I liked off the plate were the shrimp and scallops. The shrimp was large and tasted fresh, the scallops didn't taste as fresh but we're good and had great flavor. The dish also came with corn and pop tacos and they were both yummy as well. My friends steak was great! Lots of flavor and it was super thick and juicy! I was very happy with the stray but sadly it wasn't my dish. I guess honestly if you're looking for a place to have a good cheap steak come here for sure but avoid the lobster it just wasn't good. A hidden gem? That's a stretch, hidden for sure though and that's probably for the best. Avoid this place at all costs. It's a drive for most, so I am hoping to save at least a few people the gas money. I can't say there is one specific reason I wouldn't go back there, just the place as whole. There are more deserving business owners that you should pay to cook you a proper meal. I drove 30 min to try this place out, I would have been better off stopping at Wendys, or even Tim Hortons for the 2 for $4 deal. I wanted to leave when I walked in and saw a sign on the door for "no colors or helmets". But I was meeting others there and it was too late to bail out. The decor hasn't been revamped in, what looks like, 50 years. Surprising since it's cash only, you'd think some of that cash would maybe go back into the place? Plenty of fruit flies and other insects in the dining area. Probably because they store empty beer bottles next to tables (I work in the industry and love dining out, and this was a first). Some food comes out on styrofoam plates, even the raw oysters?! Quite a scene watching the waitress try and keep the plate from folding in when she cleared it from the table. On that note, the only positive about this place was the service. Very attentive and friendly. They do use plates for some of their dishes, but they probably shouldn't. Maybe they are the original plates, maybe they bought them at a garage sale. Either way they are dirty and disgusting. I'll continue, even though I am sure most readers have already taken from this review what it's worth, the food was awful! I had low expectations for ambiance but I was still shocked to see Styrofoam plates on the table. Really? I'm paying $22.95 for a broiled seafood platter that I'm supposed to eat off a disposable plate?? At least they classed up the meal by offering actual flatware and not plastic utensils. The problem was that everything tasted like butter/garlic even though it looked like every dish was coated in Old Bay seasoning. The meat was cold and it had clearly been in a pan pre cooked and not left on the grill long enough to warm up. The bun was hard to cut through which was super hard to dip. My fries were okay, nothing really but atlest they weren't cold. The place was chilly. I order heard multiple people complain and ask to move into another room since it was that chilly. It was the first real cool night of the season but if I'm out to dinner I don't want to be chilly. Horrible food, horrible waitresses, rude management!! Crab legs tasted like eating pure salt. Steaks cooked horribly and not to customers request. To go orders sit around too long and get cold and disgusting. I'd rather pay higher prices somewhere else than go back here!!! After going there for 30+ years it's sad to see they plainly don't care about the customer!!! The rudeness and attitude is mind blowing, has been bad the past 2-4 times we've gone there. The prices cannot be beat. My husbands prime rib was huge and cooked to order. I think maybe I just made a poor choice that night. I almost gave 3 stars, but noticed that my thoughts were consistent with a few other Yelpers. I was not impressed at all. My standards for seafood are a little skewed, since I grew up near the coast, but I can usually give the benefit of the doubt. My dainties were probably the best part of the meal. The clams casino were too salty and greasy and the pasta alfredo lacked flavor. The service wasn't great either; but probably what helps this place get a solid "2" instead of a "1". If you are not accustomed to seafood and don't know how to prepare this stuff at home, you may love this place. Just know that steaming your own seafood only requires heat and water (=steam) and you truly can do this yourself. The customer service is what could bring this place up, but otherwise, trust that you're being hosed. read more
