My grandma had a renovated room with a walk in shower (as opposed to a tub) so know that is an option. We got ready in the bridal suite for the wedding which was beautiful. The lighting was perfect for hair and makeup and there was plenty of space for 12 people. We loved having the restaurant and two bars available downstairs. Coffee is served in the lobby until 10am on weekdays and later on weekends. The only negative was that the pillows were terrible; flat and provided no support. The wedding was beautiful in the ballroom on the 2nd floor. Shoutout to Anthony the doorman for helping everyone in my family all weekend along with Kevin the bartender, Sergio and Divi!

There was a TV, safe, steamer, robes, Nespresso machine, fridge, complimentary Voss water (both sparkling and still), and lights and curtains controlled with buttons. The bathroom was very spacious with hand towels on both sides of the sink, which I appreciated so my boyfriend and I could each have one. Spacious room and closets. They truly thought of everything. I would definitely stay here again! I loved everything about it.

The not-so-good: we booked a suite and were originally shown a room on the 11th floor which was very dark and faced a brick building. We requested another room and were moved to a much better room facing the park on the 3rd floor. Neither room was worth the $1k price point but at least the second room was an improvement. It should be noted the elevators are very slow and the wait was 5-10 minutes no matter the time of day. The bad: Contessa has almost zero vegan options... not even oatmeal which was odd. Even the acai bowl had milk in it! I ended up ordering a slice of focaccia, a laughable fruit plate (which was $20), and orange juice. Room service was no better in terms of option...one night I ordered the rigatoni marinara clearly stating that I am a vegan and it arrived an hour later covered in parmesan cheese. None of the above would have been a big deal at a $500-$600 price point, but at $1k per night our experience was disappointing. I doubt we'll stay at the Newbury again.

That time due to everything going on in the world with minimal travel we enjoyed a cheap rate for an entire weekend with probably the best view offered for the hotel of TD Garden as well as the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. Which I know it's just a bridge but it was a nice sight for an in-city view. This most recent stay was due to a concert at TD Garden my wife and I were in town for. Which I will say if you are looking for a place to stay for an event at TD Garden, good luck finding a better option than here! Check in staff and valet workers were friendly and greeted us with a smile. Rates were very reasonable for end of summer and with a concert so close. Room was smaller this stay around and our view was more of just a building with a small glance of TD Garden if you looked to the side. Overall a very clean room and still a good amount of space. Can not think of any complaints for our stay and would stay here again. They offer valet parking and anytime we needed the car it was quick to get it back. Inside the lobby/first floor they have plenty of seating and what they dub "The Bistro" that offers breakfast, dinner, and full bar and I believe Starbucks drinks too. Location wise it is quite ideal, obviously if your activities/work is in this area of Boston. Besides TD Garden it is also close to North station along with plenty of food and drink options. Personally for a morning coffee or matcha I say check out Blank Street Coffee, then food wise I would say take a quick walk to the North End or closer try Tavern In The Square. Definitely a hotel worth looking into while visiting Boston!

Room: 5 Our room was impeccable with impressive personal touches and attention to detail. Little things like Fiji water, fresh soft towels (and a black towel for makeup), full array of toiletries, and a welcoming comfortable firm bed. Despite having alllll the things to do in Boston, I was excited to get back to that room and that bed, and I slept like a log. I like a good bed when I'm traveling and I would never stay at another place if I had the option. My favorite aspect was having a separate bedroom and living area (with pull out couch). All things comparable, I've stayed in a thousand hotels, I've traveled Boston thoroughly. This will be my go-to forever. Whether traveling single, as a couple, or with my kids, I will look at 284 first and foremost. Kid-friendly: yes! I would definitely stay here with my kids (ages 9, 11, 13). Safe, fun, welcoming, and wallet-friendly. Special bonus and wow impression: each room is themed after a different artist. I love love love this concept and intrigued me a thousand times over. Housekeeping still knocked while I was sleeping, and then at the hotel's normal checkout time I received a call telling me I needed to leave within 90 minutes. It was confusing and made me feel unnecessarily rushed. I understand that hotel needs can change, but if a late checkout has been confirmed multiple times, guests should be able to rely on it--or at least be given reasonable notice if that changes. Better communication between the front desk and housekeeping would have made a big difference.

The environment was beautifully decorated for Christmas, like last year, and I had to take some pictures to have as desktop wallpaper on my computer. We had a very nice time and the selections on the menu were impressive. I went with the carrot cake chai black tea, mainly because it had pumpkin pie kinds of spices and vanilla rooibos. It tasted wonderful, like an autumnal tea, and all our teas came in beautifully decorated tea pots, apparently from Australia. The Four Seasons also does this interesting thing where they give you a liquor that fits with your tea order, to be added if you wish or drank by itself. I had a sip of mine and from someone else's, a bit strong for me but a bailey's one was alright. I'm fine with just tea myself! As for the food, this year's high tea was one of the best I've had. The menu was different from last year's, which was great too but in my opinion this seemed like an upgrade. Some of the food items included pieces of salmon in a little pastry, mini lobster roll, peking duck crepe, curried chicken croissant, a beautiful deviled egg, vanilla bean and brown butter scones, an eggnog tart, and a Santa hat shaped raspberry pastry. We even got some alternate options for a lactose sensitive person, so that's a great plus as well. The atmosphere was elegant and calming, and the service was great. The Four Seasons high tea was a very special holiday event, and comes highly recommended!

Lots of great shopping, restaurants, & cafes located all around in Back Bay. Very safe as well. We'd get back late at night & never felt unsafe. Rooms are small yet clean & they have everything you need including good WiFi & a mini fridge. Housekeeping available daily if preferred. The staff here were excellent. Easy check-in & checkout even though we booked through Chase Travel Portal. We had zero issues. They welcomed us back with a smile every evening. Room access is with an old fashion key, & late night entry to the hotel itself requires key access which is great keeping unwanted guests out. We paid mid $200s per night which I thought was very fair given the location & the costs of other mid-tier hotels in the area. If you're looking for a simple, clean, affordable hotel to stay at, this is it. If you're wanting a more upscale hotel with room service & pampering, you won't find that here. Booking hotels always makes me nervous because you never know what you're walking in to, but my wife & I agreed we'd stay here 10/10 times if returning to Boston.

The complimentary coffee and pastries were out when I arrived at 10 a.m. (they serve until 11), so I chose to wait for a new batch to be made, and even then, I felt rushed out.

Upon arrival, the rooms were not ready at the designated 3pm check-in time and were 1.5 hours late, leaving little time to get ready for the concert. You're instructed to text for room service, but no one responds. Calling wasn't any better--no one answered. I finally called the front desk to request towels and a breakfast menu. They sent one old, worn-out towel for a room with four people. To make matters worse, there was a QR code in the room encouraging guests to tip housekeeping, which felt inappropriate given how difficult it was just to receive basic service. I then asked a housekeeper in the hallway for more towels and was met with resistance. She told me they were running low and that she wasn't assigned to my room, so she wanted to save her towels to finish her rooms and leave for the day. I actually had to argue just to get enough towels for everyone. She eventually acknowledged that we were, in fact, entitled to towels--those were her exact words--but guests should never have to debate whether they'll receive basic amenities. The room service food itself was decent, but every order arrived without silverware--even for items like mac and cheese that obviously require utensils. It was frustrating to keep chasing down items that should have been included. The room also lacked natural light, felt poorly maintained, and honestly felt like sleeping in a cave. The location is excellent if you're attending an event at TD Garden, but the poor customer service, lack of attention to basic guest needs, and tired rooms made this a disappointing stay. I would choose a different hotel next time.

There was a lot of Spanish being spoken among the staff, which made the environment feel a little less welcoming and professional from a guest perspective. On the other hand, the valet team deserves a lot of credit for their customer service. The valet manager in particular handled a very difficult situation with impressive professionalism. On Sunday night, there were around 10 cars lined up, and he appeared to be handling the valet operation by himself. Despite the long line and obvious pressure, he remained calm, courteous, and continued providing great customer service. At one point, it also looked like a hotel employee wearing a black shirt stepped in to help him, even though he didn't appear to be part of the valet team. If that was indeed a hotel employee, I appreciated seeing someone recognize the situation and pitch in. The biggest issue was clearly staffing. Having one person handling that many cars on a Sunday night is not fair to the employee or the guests. The valet manager did the best he could under the circumstances and actually left a positive impression because of how well he handled the pressure. Overall, there were some areas where the hotel could improve, particularly communication and staffing. However, I want to recognize the valet manager for maintaining his composure and treating guests well despite being put in a challenging situation.

It is situated right near the Old South Meeting House and the Old State Building, which is smack-dab in the middle of the Freedom Trail. Public transit is about 1 block away on all sides and rideshare drivers can pick you up right out front for easy access. We even had UberEats deliveries that were really easy to navigate. The room is clean and spacious and has plenty of amenities. We had a single queen with a standing shower, a desk with 2 chairs, a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, mini fridge, and even a small electric stovetop. A great room for a great price. The only thing I wish was different is the toilet: you have to "pump" the flush handle to get it to clear out, but it's manageable after you get the hang of it. The staff working here are attentive and kind. Juberto helped us with check in and check out (even let us check out an hour later at 1pm), and gave a friendly greeting every time we walked through the door. The English pub downstairs, Elephant & Castle, is a great respite after a long day sight-seeing and we appreciate Jimmy so much for how welcome he made us feel. We will definitely be coming back here! Thank you!

It was much slower and as more people came in it got very cramped. It was so odd because the manager was helping people use the kiosk, but if he had just checked us in himself at the desk it would have been faster and more pleasant. I would consider CQ to be a backup hotel when nothing else is available.

(The Green Line closed for maintenance for two weeks the day after I arrived, which threw my transportation plans into disarray, but I don't hold that against the hotel.) It's a close walk to Newbury St. and the Prudential Building with its shops and rooftop observation experience, and not too much more to walk to Copley Square. Wild Duck has a beverage/wine/liquor store across the street, with a little grocery offshoot downstairs on the corner. The Eliot doesn't have much of a lobby to speak of -- it's more an entryway with a check-in desk and elevator lobby. But it's nice, and the check-in process is very welcoming. They use actual keys with big brass chains, which you'll probably want to leave at the desk when you go out. There was never a wait to drop off or pick up the key. (I never had to show ID, so the spy thriller lover in me immediately saw a scenario where the bad guy waits for the hero to go out, then gives the room number and gets the key to go upstairs and steal the memory stick. But that probably doesn't happen very often.) The rooms are mostly suites with various configurations it seems. I had one on a corner, which was nice, with a spacious living area and somewhat smaller bedroom area, but it was fine for sleeping. The two areas were separated by French doors. The soothing blue color palette was lovely and there were some distinctive and tasteful decor pieces. There was an entryway that had a little butler's pantry off it with a beverage cooler, sink and the minibar items/glassware. It was nice to have that separate space. The bathroom was pretty small, as was the closet. The layout of these areas in my room was not very convenient. You had to close the door between the bathroom/vanity area in order to open the closet and everything was a tight space to move around in. There's no handheld wand in the shower, which I deduct points for. There was also a section of the curtain rod where the coating was coming off, and it had a red arrow sticker wrapped around it, but I guess maintenance hadn't gotten there yet. There was a small cellophane wrapper on the floor as well, so some upkeep details were missed, but overall the cleanliness seemed good and the bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable. I did a ton of walking around Boston in the cold, and I definitely got good sleep at the Eliot. The attached restaurant, Uni, was lively and a tasty sushi/nigiri-type menu, if the server was a little too social and chatty and not making rounds quite often enough.
