We had a really great stay at AKA Boston Back Bay. We originally booked two nights, but after checking in and seeing the suite, we decided to extend our stay because we loved it so much. The suite was beautiful, very spacious, and super clean, with big, bright windows that made the space feel open. The furnishings are gorgeous, with beautiful walnut wood and leather throughout. The lighting is well thought out too. The suite has a warm, elegant feel that it feels more like a stylish apartment than a typical hotel room. The location in Back Bay is also perfect, with everything we wanted within easy walking distance. I'd definitely book the same suite again next time we're in Boston. read more

Location, location, location. Just steps from my workplace. This hotel is amazing. They offer weighted blankets, aromatherapy sleep masks, sound machine etc. to enjoy your stay. There is an espresso machine in the room, need I say more. My only suggestion would be slow close toilet seats. read more

This location is very convenient to my office so I stay here somewhat frequently. While the room was fine, the bed comfy, and I appreciated the peleton bike in the gym, this isn't my favorite place to stay in the area. Aside from the peleton bike, this gym is one of the worst hotel gyms I've ever encountered. It's a tiny windowless room that essentially requires you to walk through the lobby of precinct to access (awkward!). Much better to hit up equinox if you have time! The precinct bar is often over run with large groups of boisterous people & gets really loud. The last time I stayed here there was a large private group in precinct and also a large private party that went way over the supposed time limit in the apothecary, essentially eliminating any opportunity to enjoy the onsite offerings. I will also put in a plug in for a 24 hour sundries store at the front desk. There really isn't anything in the area that is open later so if you are from the west coast and you are starving at 11pm you have about a 10 minute walk to CVS as the closest option. Otherwise, it's accessible to transit and an easy spot to grab a taxi or uber if needed. read more

Stayed here for a Friday/Saturday night and had a relatively nice experience. I very much appreciated (and completely did not expect it) being able to check in upon arrival at 11am. The room we got was on the second floor. There was no view.. the room pretty much looked into other rooms which was fine given that we didn't plan to stay in the room much anyways. The size of the room was decent, allowing two full beds to fit comfortably. The room had $8 bottled Fiji water as an option lol. The bathroom was missing an extractor fan which made for a really steamy space after showers.. so deducting a star for that given the price of the room. I personally love the back bay and the location can not be beat. Friendly door staff, complimentary hot chocolate and coffee, and quick elevators. We stayed here with our 4 year old for a family weekend getaway because it was close to the Titanic Exhibition at the Saunders Castle. It didn't disappoint. My son loved that we stayed in a building that was once headquarters of the Boston Police Department. We booked through Hotels.com which is what I usually use. The prices seemed the same on that site vs the hotel site. Check in and check out was easy and the staff were very friendly. Parking is valet at $68 per night, charged to the room with the ability to have the car whenever needed (for the most part) for no extra charge. Our car was out front in 10 mins this morning when we checked out. We used the T to get around and the nearest station is less than 10 minutes walk away (Arlington). The hotel was very clean and was very accommodating when our son had a bed wetting accident. I felt really bad because we used a pad on top of the sheets to protect the bed in addition to whatever they used on the mattress. The housekeeper was super nice about it and just changed out the bedding that morning and even got us all new towels and made the other bed too even though I told her she didn't have to. I thought it was a bigger deal than the staff. Any questions about the area and transportation I asked were answered accurately, which is super important to someone not familiar with the area. I was really impressed with how friendly and accommodating the staff were, to the point where my husband and I just aren't used to someone wanting to help with our bags (yes, I know they want a tip but it wasn't coming across that obvious). The hotel is within walking distance to all the shopping/stores on Newbury Street and is in a nice location. All the staff were excellent ambassadors of the hotel and the city. If we come back to the area, we would absolutely stay here again. They do have an on site restaurant. We didn't use the restaurant, mainly because of our 4 year old. Their website lacks a menu and says it's French inspired fare. We weren't going to take the risk of going without looking over a menu first. They serve breakfast but we decided to try a local bakery instead, again mostly because there was no menu available. read more

Very nice hotel in a historic building. Only stayed one rainy night so didn't have a chance to check out the neighborhood. Thank goodness for valet parking right in front! Check in was easy, everyone was very polite, and the room was clean and comfortable, albeit a little small. Good hot water & amenities. Very nice, helpful and friendly staff, spacious room, full service cleaning everyday - this was a great stay. The hotel is within walking distance to many nice restaurants, shopping and parks. The doorman Tom is great- very helpful from arrival to departure. We asked him for insights on nearby sights and food of which we followed and were pleased with it all. The room itself was fantastic. Beds were comfortable and linens were luxurious; lots of room to move around especially in the bathroom. Didn't get a lot of opportunity to explore the rest of the hotel due to work but there was a nice, separate sitting area on the lobby floor with leather couches, wingback chairs, TV,- looked like a nice place to relax and have a drink. Staff was friendly and super helpful! Location to other things in the Back Bay area is good. We enjoyed the Mexican Place right next door as well as a coffee shop down the road. Cool history as it used to be the police headquarters. The rooms are a bit on the small side. There is a nice seating area with tvs, outlets and a coffee machine. Ubers/Lyft were easy to get. The bar area downstairs is also nice and closes at 10, 11 or 1130 depending on the day. read more

Just returned from a 5-day trip to Boston and a great stay at AKA Back Bay. There was a fluke incident with the hotel's plumbing and we lost water for part of one day (really only the morning since we left the hotel and when we returned the water was back). The hotel refunded us for that entire day without us needing to ask. We also made a mistake with our booking (accidentally booked two different stays and forgot to cancel one until the day of). The hotel did not charge us but officially could have charged us for half the stay, which would have been over $1000. The hotel is in a great location, right in the heart of downtown, but not noisy. The bed was very comfortable and we felt cared for by the staff. We would happily return to this hotel for a future trip! read more

We stayed here for 2 nights & would definitely stay again. The building itself is quite interesting as it is an old police precinct. The location is convenient and an easy walk to the park (Boston Commons), Copley Square or the Prudential building. The hotel was clean, the rooms were nice and the bed comfortable. Large, well-equipped bathroom. There's even a 24-hour lounge (The Apothecary) where you can get complimentary coffee, lattes, hot chocolate and more. Valet parking isn't cheap but very convenient since you can come and go anytime you'd like. The best part of our experience was the staff!! They were PHENOMENAL!! Seriously, every interaction was a positive one -- from the desk clerks to all of the valet guys, the porters and the bellman, John. They were genuinely friendly, very personable and did their jobs well. Kudos on your well-trained staff!! read more

I am so glad I found this charming, iconic, histlric boutique hotel that was once the police headquarters. I felt safe, ha. The ladies at the front desk were very welcome and sensed my excitement , so they placed me in an upgraded suite. Well- thank you very much. My room was so cozy, bed comfortable and bathroom large with a separate tub that I didn't want to be at any meetings. I highly recommend the hotel and the back bay area. Really enjoyed my stay here. The location is wonderful and convenient. There was often a door man available to greet guests which was very nice. In the back of the first floor, There is a business area with 2 computers which came in handy also. There were complementary coffees and teas in the lounge area 24/7. First time staying at this hotel. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the hotel. The sleep offerings are also on another level. Do yourself a favor and scan the QR code on the keycard folder. It'll pull up several pillow options and more unique offerings like humidifiers with essential oils, weighted blankets, sleep masks, ear plugs, etc. I slept SO well! Thought I only stayed 1 night, I enjoyed my stay here, I got a free upgrade to a king room, it was clean, well lit and spacious, with a decent view. I like that there was coffee, tea and hot coco available 24 hours ( definitely appreciated that after strolling in at 2am lol) very convenient What I didn't like was the hotel texting me and telling me that checkout was at 11am immediately upon me getting into my room, kinda felt like I was being rushed out before I could even settle in. read more

We had a great stay here for our pitstop during our road trip. It's a great pet-friendly option in a lovely location. It is blocks away from Boston Public Park which is a large, gorgeous pup friendly park in the area. The location is also within walking distance to many restaurants as well as Chinatown. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions there was no room service nor pet room service for the poochie. However, we had a lovely stay. The staff was so kind upon check in. And upon check out, we had about 8 bags between the 2 of us due to our road trip, and without requesting so- 3 staff members helped us take out our bags so we didn't have to make multiple trips. I also quite liked their texting program in which you can ask them any questions - how convenient! I look forward to staying again in the future, hopefully with the pet room service! read more

This was a very nice hotel. In the midst of a pandemic (and/or pandemic recovery), it was a super pleasant experience. Absolutely loved the front desk staff. They were so friendly and helpful! The room was good. The location was nice. Grabbing a cab or ride share was pretty easy. And we even managed to walk to a lot of places from here (despite the summer heat). All in all, no real complaints. Wish we'd been able to explore the amenities more. Would definitely stay here again. read more

What a great way to spend our 2 night stay on our first visit to Boston. Our flight arrived early. After speaking with JJ found out our room would be ready when we checked in. We received a heartwarming greeting from JJ as she wished us Happy Anniversary. The hotel is wonderfully located near Boston Public Park and Train stations. Our room was spacious with no issues with noise. The towels were a bit stiff. The Apothecary was convenient with the choice of tea, coffee,latte or hot chocolate. While we weren't able to use our credit for the Precinct Kitchen ( we had enjoyed so much Boston eats), the menu looked enticing. Thank you for a peaceful stay in Boston. read more

We stayed here for a few nights when visiting Boston. Loved the hotel overall! Thought it was cool that it was previously a police precinct- totally looked like it! Only downside was no ramp at the main entrance so we had to go around the corner to get our luggage in. The restaurant was also closed, which was unfortunate. The staff was great.. very friendly but there were times when no one was in the lobby. The room was HUGE! We had the king suite and it was GREAT! Lots of room for my toddler to run around. Coffee machine was old and would have been nice if we had a microwave. BIGGEST plus was location! Just a few blocks from Newbury and 2 amazing restaurants across the street. Drove from Philly to Boston to attend the Rufus Du Sol show at MGM for my birthday and decided to treat myself to a nice hotel for the night. 10 out of 10 experience! Enisa (who btw is the sweetest most kind soul) checked me in and upon finding out it was a birthday trip definitely hooked it up. My room was lovely. I was on the 9th floor in a quiet corner with the best view. Hands down the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The little store in the corner of the lobby was clutch for post show beverages and snacks. Checkout was met with another supremely kind person and was a breeze to do. The lobby area with the coffee bar was a great place to chill while waiting for my ride back home. Genuinely sad I wasn't staying longer. I had never been to Boston before but I for sure will be booking here when I return to truly explore the city! read more

Loews Boston's recent remodel has transformed the Old Boston Police Headquarters Building into a fresh, state of the art and modern first class hotel. No Federalist furniture, no frou-frou bedspreads, no heavy damask drapery. No snobby staff at the front. The front desk staff let us check into our rooms before noon which was great since we wouldn't have to lug our wheelies to client meetings. The hotel rooms are on the small side, but the work desk really works well for spreading out your laptop and papers. Electrical outlets are conveniently built into the desk. The bathroom stall had two shower heads for upper and lower body parts. Plus, the bathroom came with the requisite phone next to the toilet for those all-important conference calls (just make sure you're on mute). The lobby lounge is comfortable and comes with a complimentary expresso machine and free wifi. The newly opened hotel restaurant, Precinct Kitchen + Bar, is a nice gathering place and has a great lunch. What earned my elusive fifth yelp star? In the morning while I was seated in the lobby, I watched a hotel supervisor walk by, stoop down, run her finger along the baseboard wall, and had a trailing hotel employee take notes into an iPad. Loews is considered a luxury hotel chain, right? So I stayed at the Loews Boston in late July 2022 with some friends. Their website said in less than a month they were transitioning to a different hotel brand. The room was clean upon arrival but extremely warm. The air conditioning did cool it off pretty quickly and the blackout curtains on the window were good. The other feature I appreciated was a bathroom nightlight under the vanity. When you walked in at night in the dark it turned itself on. Very nice. The location is stupendous. You are right in Back Bay where you want to be. There is great shopping and restaurants all around and it's all walkable. I thought the property itself was a bit lacking. For me the cons were: the shower leaked all over the bathroom, the toilet paper was so thin that it shredded as I was unrolling it to tear it off, pieces of marble all around the bathroom were crumbling, and on a Saturday afternoon one of the two elevators broke down. On Sunday morning at 9am & 10am when we were trying to get out of there we had a 10-15 minute elevator wait to get down with our luggage. I realize these are first world problems but it's not what you expect when you stay at a hotel like a Loews. Most likely Loews is not servicing it because in another few weeks it will no longer be theirs? read more

You have to use your mobile phone to order room service (my room phone did not work) but at least they have room service. However... The lobby staff were all very helpful and friendly. Check-in was very easy. The room I had was a decent size, for a city hotel, and very clean. Every time the heater kicked on it was almost too loud to sleep thru. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows went completely flat when laying on them. I loved that the towel rack in the bathroom is heated. All hotels should have that feature! read more

I picked this hotel due to the great reviews it had. I pride myself in researching extensively where I decide to spend my money on accommodations and it was a huge disappointment. From the moment I checked in, I was made to feel like an imbecile. The gentleman that checked me in made me pay up front for our stay. I have never had a hotel ask to pay up front for a stay and having my card on file! The room was dark and outdated, the bed hurt my back. This has truly been the worse hotel I have stayed at. The location is great, walking distance to Boylston, Newbury, Boston Common, Beacon Hill etc. Choose wisely. There are other hotels in the same vicinity that are worth the money. read more

This is one of my go to hotels when in Boston. Do I want to be near Newbury, but away from the larger busier stays a couple blocks away? Or, do I want to be near the North End? This is definitely a gem in the Back Bay Area. Conveniently located to the shops and restaurants of this location. Plus, if you're driving, it makes for a quick in and out regardless of the time of day. Great staff. This hotel is fantastic. Situated in the old Boston Police HQ is a modern and upscale hotel with great service and beautiful rooms. We came here on NYE and since it was freezing, I walked in with my fingers about to fall off - hah. The front desk immediately got a hand warmer so I could thaw out while I checked in. We got a room on the 3rd floor and it was spacious and sexy. The location is great as it wasn't too loud and was away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Boston. There were plenty of bars nearby and they even let us sleep in a bit past checkout (likely understanding everyone was like the Walking Dead on New Years Day). The beds were super comfy and I slept like a rock. Overall, I really liked this hotel and will likely be back again. read more

Great place to stay for the Boston Marathon! Valet parking available, spacious, modern and sleek design, plenty of outlets, towel warmers, restaurant on the bottom floor, and the beds were so comfortable that it was like sleeping in a cloud. The view we got out the window was right near the end of the finish line. There's nothing more agonizing than finishing a marathon in the cold rain and realizing that you still have to go back to wherever you stayed the night. It's definitely worth splurging and booking this spot in advance because it was literally less than a half mile from the end. The staff is super helpful and friendly, my boyfriend accidentally dropped his room card and it slid under the door and they promptly let us replace it. The doorman and front desk clerk were very hospitable and eager to help. read more

Not a four-star hotel. Maybe a lot of the issues were due to Covid-19 and labor shortages... There were a lot of "little things" that just all added-up. 1. The rooms boast larger square footage than other hotels in the area. BUT... the room had a lot of wasted space that couldn't be utilized, making it not actually any larger than a smaller room with a more efficient floor-plan. 2. No complimentary water. It's like 4$ if you want to drink one of the two bottles of water they leave out for you. C'mon... 3. Moldy grout in the shower. 4. You have to reach out to the front desk if you want your room cleaned. 5. We asked for extra towels. We got towels stuffed into a plastic bag, left on our bed. 6. Housekeeping just left things that were clearly trash but not able to fit in the trash can. 7. Lighting fixtures were cobwebbed. 8. Had food delivered, alerted the front desk, food sat at front desk for 40 minutes until we called down about it, they said it had only been sitting there for 10 minutes. The delivery guy sent a message with a photo time-stamped. The front-desk staff straight-up lied to us. 9. Small bathrooms -- one sink and no room for toiletries for two. 10. You have to let the front desk know if you want your room cleaned and fresh towels (I may be wrong about the housekeeping but I think I'm right about the towels.) At some point, hotels level off and the difference between a decent hotel and one that markets itself as a "four star hotel" is primarily in the details and the service. Both were lacking here. There's just not that "extra" effort that I would expect based on the marketing. It's not a bad hotel -- but it's not a great hotel. read more

Don't stay in room 449. Cleanliness issues: 1) when I first arrived, I noticed that the bathroom mirror was filthy. It looked like it was covered in thumbprints, except each smudge was 5-10 times the size of a thumbprint. I washed it myself. 2) when going to bed the second night, I found a long hair on one of the pillows (see photo). I am a dude with very short hair, so this was definitely not mine. Was this room cleaned before I checked in? 3) I was briefly barefoot, and I stepped on something sticky embedded in the carpet. Gum? 4) the box spring is black, which makes it hard to check for bed bugs. Intentionally? Amenities problems: 1) the air conditioner blows, nice and strong, until it gets to the desired temperature. Then, once you get there, the heat starts blowing, just as strongly. Wtf!? The room fluctuates between hot and cold. 2) speaking about fluctuating between hot and cold: the shower sucks because it's one of those showers that is either scaldingly hot or freezing cold unless you turn the knob to its "sweet spot" that gives you a normal temperature. Except with a twist!: the "sweet spot" moves around. So you need to start from scratch every time you take a shower. Also the shower head is coming off the wall, and some bathroom paint is cracked and gross-looking. 3) the "gym" is an absolute joke. You could maybe use a treadmill, but otherwise it's too small to do anything else. I actually laughed when I first opened the door to the gym. Beyond this, there's a ton to nitpick. My iPhone charger keeps falling out of the electric plug next to the bed, because the plug is weirdly large. The light switches are hard to find, and you have to walk through the room in the dark to reach them. You can't use the elevator unless you hold your card against a doohickey, and the doohickey is barely above knee-high. Idiotic design choices all around. Everyone I spoke to seemed to think this was a great hotel, but this particular room was just distrusting and annoying. This seemed to be a handicapped-accessible room, so maybe they expect handicapped persons to accept a lower standard of living. There were no WiFi instructions in the room. What the hell is up with this place. read more

I was excited to stay at this hotel due to the great location, neat historical connection, and former connection to the Loew's hotel chain. The price was not cheap and a destination fee was tacked on. I found the hotel disappointing in many ways including 1) a group of 6-7 were checking in when I got there that tied up both lines. It would have been considerate of other guests to use one line for them and the other for other guests 2) room was small, towels were small and thin, hairdryer was cheap and not very powerful, $8 for a bottled water, and very noisy early morning construction. The Precinct Bar looked great and had a good turnout both evenings. In the end, I will stay elsewhere when in the area. I would not recommend this hotel to business travellers. read more
