We were excited to sink our teeth into some fine smoked meats. Alas, it was not to be. This place's prices are insane. Go to an upscale place for what they charge. We were under impressed with the atmosphere and completely dismayed to see every item on the menu priced at a point I'd expect from a fine dining establishment. This place sat us at a sticky booth with a very well used paper menu and has the audacity to charge $15 for their cheapest burger. The menu isn't anything adventurous and the cooking tastes somewhat generic, but it's exactly what you'd expect from a homestyle establishment. My friend ordered a burger while I tried the fajitas (a recommendation from our server who said it was one of the most popular dishes). Both entrées came out steaming hot and faster than expected. Both meats were cooked properly and I was impressed with how tender mine was. Having ordered a more "exotic" dish in comparison to the other options on the menu, I was expecting my tastebuds to awaken but the side lettuce and sour cream had more flavor than the meat... this is not an exaggeration - it completely overpowered the peppers and beef which were cooked together and should have had more flavor. I made a mistake ordering Mexican food from an American restaurant. I thought it was just me, but my friend also said his Cajun burger tasted like a plain cheeseburger. If there is a next time, I'll try the barbecue... but for the price and quality I'd rather go to a place that specializes in whatever food I'm craving. read more

Steak sandwich for $25? Preposterous! Would be a crime if it weren't so delicious. Had one in South Carolina for $12 and one in Mississippi for $15. I take my steak sandwiches very seriously and although this one is pricey I'd order it again and again due to the shortages in finding this special item. Texas Roadhouse tried, but couldn't come close to the quality. And when I asked for crispy fries they obliged. I saw lamb chops on the menu as well. Local Milwaukee version of the old Ponderosa, or one of the hundreds of similar western themed casual dining steakhouses that proliferated back in the 90s. Not bad for its genre. The Ribs and Chicken were both tender and tasty. The Black Bean Soup was GOOD, a break from both the same old same old and the "chef inspired fou fou that pollutes too many menus today. I like this place an extra star because it's reminiscent of the 1990s pseudo-Western themed places like "Cattlemen's" in "Fresh Off The Boat." This one isn't owned by a funny three generation Chinese-American family but I still like it and it's convenient if you live or work in Oak Creek or are coming or going from the airport. Service is more personable than the similar shopping mall chains (Ponderosa, Bonanza, which are surprisingly still in business, there are a couple left in Wisconsin somewhere), and I guess the food is comparable. It's right off the College Exit of I-94, just East of the expressway so if you're looking for a sit-down break on a road trip before Milwaukee proper, this is a good choice. I guess it's really a three star place, but it's a four star weekend brunch buffet. Been here a few times now and it's time for a review. This is a fair priced restaurant and bar with a very extensive menu. They have everything from steaks, ribs, seafood, and burgers to Mexican. I've had a good variety of items except the steaks and everything I had was "good". The Ambience is casual and relaxing and the bar area usually has a decent crowd. I've never seen it empty or overly packed so most likely you can get in and eat without reservations or a long wait. I stopped in for a late dinner, it's wasn't much going on a few people at the bar. The service was a little slow at first. When the Bartender Mark made his way over he was friendly,& knowledgeable about the menu. He recommend a few things and I picked the Wisconsinite burger with Wisconsin Chester bacon,& and Mushrooms! A pile of nachos as big as my head with real cheese and not that cheese sauce stuff? Excellent Bloody Marys? Roasted mini drums drowning in buffalo sauce? Gone is the smoke (smoking ban went into effect this Summer) so many places I wouldn't venture into in the past have a second chance with me. The Branded Steer had won over the heart (stomach?) of my friend when he was on business in the area, so it was first on our list of stops during a recent weekend in Milwaukee. We sat in the large bar area and the friendly bartender saved my life with a terrific Bloody Mary and some pretty darn good bar food. We scarfed it down and were on our way to the next place in no time. Service was friendly, prices are reasonable (it is Wisconsin after all) and this is right off the College Ave exit of I-94 with easy access on and off (at least it will be when the construction is complete) Nothing fancy- that's for sure, and pretty typical of the kinds of places where you get a lot of food for a little bit of money. Went there for breakfast, it was great. The service was fantastic, thanks Kelsea!! I had the Western Skillet, substituted the Cheddar for Monterey Jack and it was totally fantastic. Eggs done over medium to perfection and loved the Texas toast. My husband had 2 eggs over medium, perfectly done, hash browns, asked for extra crispy and they were done to perfection. The entire serving of hash browns was crispy, not like other places that are crisp only on the outside. My Burger was supposed to have Sautéed Mushrooms, Onions, Green and Red Bell Peppers and a Combination of Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheeses. It only had the Mushrooms, Onions and American Cheese. Diane's Sandwich was supposed to be Shredded Rotisserie Chicken Layered with B.B.Q. Sauce, Fried Onions and Cheddar Jack Cheese on Texas Toast. It was Chicken with American Cheese on regular toast. It was busy, but not horribly so, it took awhile to get seated even though there were tables and the service did take quite some time to get to us and take our order. That being said, may be they were having an off night or someone didn't show for work and they were under staffed, I get it. The food itself was standard steakhouse fare, nothing really special, I just didn't feel like anything was set apart here, it was just OK. The food was good, but not great, the service was OK, not exceptional and the ambiance was pretty much what you would expect for this type of establishment. Decide to order porterhouse, cooked medium, to split with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and French onion soup. Soup comes out, it's okay, nothing special, edible (which is giving a lot of credit). The rest of the meal comes out, almost 25 minutes after we order, and it looks real good on the plate. As we start eating, I notice the strip portion of the porterhouse is definitely well done, but the filet part is more medium, kinda medium well. Whatever, I'm hungry and I want to eat something. Everything else on the plate is awful, the mashed potatoes are dry, unsalted and just gross. The vegetables are a peppers, squash and mushroom mix, also gross, overly soft and over salted. During this, we also ask the server for a wild cherry Pepsi. Well, news to us they must have been out of wild cherry Pepsi, so naturally instead of just telling us they are out, they take it upon themselves to just add grenadine to Pepsi. and of course they also don't even bother to stir it in, because once we got to the bottom, we got a mouthful of sugary, grenadine syrup. We decided to stop in at Branded Steer before heading to the movie theater. We were seated immediately, even though they seemed pretty busy. The bar (which is of an impressive size) was pretty full and most of the tables seemed occupied. The waiter was fun, personable and knowledgeable. I love wait staff that love their job. The menu is pretty extensive. They have a number of hamburgers, sandwiches and BBQ options. There are salads for those that prefer lighter or no meat entrees. With the name Branded Steer, you know they have steaks, too. We started with the saddlebags. Yes. We ordered saddlebags. After seeing the fast food commercials for people ordering such afflictions, we ourselves ordered the potato skin appetizers 'saddlebags.' When we received them I fully understand WHY they are called saddle bags. They are HUGE! and you get 5 of them! They are loaded down with cheese and bacon.. did I mention?: THEY WERE HUGE! The cowboy chili was excellent. The only complaint I have about that is that I couldn't wait for it to cool down enough before I scarfed it down. Be sure to order the cheese and onion along with that! The salad was good. The only thing memorable about the salad is that it wasn't loaded with nasty, obviously out of season, produce. The bread, however, came to the table warm and was so good I could have made a meal of that alone. The entrees came and were heaping on the plate and over the edges, too! I had cheese enchiladas which were plentiful, but not spectacular. My husband ordered the special that night which was ribs, rotisserie chicken and shrimp covered in Branded Steer's homemade Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. His food was so good that I wanted to pick up his plate and lick the BBQ sauce off of it. Service was excellent; we were served quickly. Despite having three courses we made it to the movie theater in plenty of time. We had so much food left over that we ended up with THREE to go boxes! I've been driving by for years just never stopped but did tonight with my son for a quick bite. Was a bit early so the place wasn't crowded at all this many of the staff were just lounging around. I had the Philly Cheesesteak with the steak fries. Fries were great and fresh. The sandwich was ok... nothing spectacular though. My son had a seafood linguini dish he enjoyed . He also has the chicken enchilada soup which we were told they are famous for and he gave it a thumbs up. Menu had a good variety as well.
