The strawberry cheese croissant was the hero I needed, not the one I deserved. In a place equally well-lit and confusing (the menu ranges from fresh, baked in house bagels to Japanese udon and Korean bulgogi with rice) I found solace as my commute went absolutely perfectly and found myself with 12 extra minutes and nowhere to spend them. It's air conditioned (or the open fridge is doing the Lord's work) and if not for my desire to earn an income to feed my family, I'd probably sit here accompanied only by my existential dread and crippling anxiety until lunch, where I'd have to choose between the Wok n' Bowl or the Pasta Bar (among others, seriously this place has everything) The card reader didn't work when I checked out. This is a really good solid place for a quick breakfast. they are open on the weekends and the rest of the area is pretty empty, so if you need a quick grab and go breakfast and you are in Midtown it is a good spot to stop off at. I came here with a family and they ordered a good variety of options. They mostly have outdoor seating at the moment because of Covid. But they have a lot of space inside as well. The space inside is laid out like a mini food court where you have a variety of options of items to choose from for breakfast or brunch. We did try the burger as well as coffee a few sandwiches and fries. The food was pretty average but well prepared and came out pretty quickly from a service standpoint. Markets, delis or anywhere they sell food. We came into The Bread Factory Cafe...and I was expecting to see lots of bread. I didn't notice much bread but I did see the pizza. Actually, they sold all types of different food but the pizza was calling our names. The problem with this delicious pizza was it was cold. When I say cold, I mean it was warm on the outside and cold in the middle. I also ordered a garlic knot which was also cold. Call me crazy but I like hot food! I was hungry and wanted to eat immediately but I wanted my pizza hot! The white pizza with ricotta cheese was almost perfect...perfectly cold. But get ready for this...I asked the man behind the counter to reheat our pizza. I had already taken a few bites out of my pizza and he put my pizza straight in the oven with no pan or paper underneath it. He did this with the garlic knot too. It's not like I'm worried about my germs, I'm more concerned with all the other people he did this with. He contaminated the whole oven. I don't want to have anybody else's saliva on my pizza. Do you think this is hygienic? What is their health code rating? Is this the norm? Literally, all my saliva went straight on to the next pizza and other food he put in the oven. This oven isn't killing any germs from the high temperature since my pizza still came back lukewarm. Believe it or not, their saving grace was the cookies. They're soft and moist just like a cookie should be. Even their Rice Krispie treats were soft. I would consider going back but probably just for foods that are packaged. If I'm hungry enough I might try the pizza again... The Bread Factory Cafe is in a tourist area of Manhattan so prices are on the higher side but normal for NYC. Lets begin with the two rude @#%! in the cash register. I never experience so much rudeness for no reason, all the time. I went three times, because everyone is allowed a "bad day!" But these two seem so ruthless, unprofessional and uninterested in quality customer service. The employees handling the food are much kinder and the food was average. However, with so many wonderful other coffee shops in the area, such as Andrew's Coffee Shop, Bread and Butter, etc... I will not be giving them more of my time and money. To top things off, I was buying a loaf of bread and one of the two aforementioned, thought it was her duty to be a "butter police," and gave me two small butters, enough to put on a toast. When I asked for more she charged me .50 cents. I complained to one of the cooks, whom suggested I tell the owner. The owner refunds me my .50 cents. When I returned another day to get another loaf of bread, the rude cashier made it a point to give me the smallest micro size individual butters. I don't understand. The bread factory Café gets a solid four star rating from me. What drew us in were the adorable animal shaped breads they had sitting in the window. Marketing on point. You walk in and are instantly drawn to the cases of delicious looking desserts. Naturally, I had to get a coffee and some macarons. For 2 macarons and a medium coffee, it came it $7, which isn't too bad. The macarons were absolutely delicious, and chewy. I make macarons all the time, so these get a 9/10 for me, the frosting needed some more flavoring. The coffee was good, but had a strange after taste, not sure why. Stopped in after Rangers game for a couple of slices of pizza and a Coke. The two gentlemen in there were very friendly . The pizza was thin crust which I really like. One was cheese and pepperoni the other was margarita. The flavor was good and it was still hot when I got it back to the hotel. The crust was thin and perfectly baked.
