Paris Baguette, much to my pleasant surprise, has very good baguettes and a really good pain aux raisins. Those are 2 of our favorites! Croissants are decent. I tried their chausson aux pommes and was disappointed; too sweet and not nearly enough apple filling. I needed lunch between appointments one day last week and liked the yogurt/granola/berries cup (used only about half of the overly-sweet granola). I came on a Saturday morning and it was pretty of quiet with plenty of seating and of course pastries galore. There are sweet and savory options of all sorts of flavors. You just grab a tray, some tongs, and pick out what you want at your own convenience before getting rung up. We got two coffees which were fine paired with a croissant filled with nutella and the pineapple brulee pastry. Both were excellent and large enough to easily share. There is also a bathroom for customers on site. We got our drinks quickly, and it's great to grab the pastries we wanted after giving it careful thought. I went into this Paris Baguette on the way to a show and needed to kill some time. There was a line, but it moved pretty fast and service was great once I arrived to the register my order only took a few minutes to come up. Unfortunately, I did not like what I ordered But now I know to try something new to desserts that were available or plenty full and they there were plenty of people sitting at tables, enjoying their treats and drinks. Wanted to grab a quick breakfast on the go near Penn Station. The pastries were delicious but the shop was chaotic and unorganized. You grab the pastries from the middle but it was pretty crowded (to be expected) but it was hard to move around and get what you wanted, there was no organized line or system to pay and check out! My friend grabbed a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie and a fruit pastry. The quiche was soft and tasty. The donut was good, but would probably be even better warmed. The cookie was not my favorite. It was on the sweeter side and lacking true flavor. The whole bakery seemed like a cute place. Convenient location close to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden...not a very big place, but good to come in to pick up something quick. They have a wide assortment of drinks, food, bakery items... was here to get a couple slices of cake. Too many good ones to chose from but settled on strawberry shortcake and blueberry chiffon cake. There were a little over $6 per slice... both were good..though sometimes fruit may not be in season..the berries for me were a little tart. Nate and I grabbed a quick breakfast here before getting on the train to Jersey. I got a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese, and he got a hot dog pastry thing. The cases and displays are all self-serve and then they ring you up at the register and you can order beverages. There was limited indoor dining space but luckily they gave us a handy bag and we just ate on the train. They asked if I wanted the sandwich warmed but, but since I wasn't eating it right away I didn't. I should have because while tasty, it would've been better warm. The hot dog bun thing was interesting - the saltiness of the sausage combined with the sweet fluffy bun was not my favorite but it was still pretty delicious. I'm just not a huge sweet/savory fan. That infamous David Brooks column about the high-school educated friend who was intimidated by soppressata sandwiches felt kind of fictional, but I had that vibe wandering around Paris Baguette. Much of the business model revolves around tongs, so it was frustrating when there weren't any, but eventually they appeared. Also, some items are supposed to be warmed up, I don't know if they do that or if you're supposed to take them home which would be bad in a commuter area. Unscientifically it seems like all Paris Baguettes have desserts but only some have regular food. In any case, the crab croquette was decent and the desserts looked good. read more

It having been several years since staying in the city, my husband was looking forward to a quick detour to any Paris Baguette location with visions of past purchases of cheesy bread in his mind. We found a morning to stop in for a light breakfast and made the short walk over to this location a stones throw from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. While there was no cheesy bread in sight, we had a good time rounding the colorful array of trays of delectable treats and landed on a couple of options. I ended up with an espresso croissant donut type concoction and a hot chocolate (really packing in the sugar on this occasion). I thought the donut would be too heavy to finish but the dough was surprisingly light along with the custard. Messy as hell but I soldiered through and was very pleased with the flavor overall. Small location but there was some seating available. We were able to squeeze in but the tables hadn't been wiped down and our beverages teetered dangerously with the uneven table legs. Located on Penn Station next to Madison Garden this is a great pick me up. I've seen multiple locations during my trip and I'm sure we made a stop here everyday during our trip. I did not expect to see myself here but wow. Every bakery item tasted super fresh. It's a great way to start your morning whether it's indulging in their bakery goods or drinks. I really enjoyed my matcha latte and my matcha croissant LOL. It was the perfect match-a. You also see them make their made to order cakes when you dine in there! Definitely check it out. This location right on the corner of 31 and 7th Avenue just might become a regular go to spot for me since I work in the area where lunch options are limited. For this visit, I bought the pre-made Tropical Salad which included lettuce, red cabbage, sliced chicken, fresh mangoes, crispy wonton and scattered cashew nuts. Two thumbs up. This was the softest, flakiest, perfectly baked good I have ever had in my life and Matthew agreed! We took the first bite and honestly thought we were in heaven. It has a variety of cakes and bakery items along with sandwiches and coffee. Was there to grab some light dinner around 6:30pm on a Friday evening and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were still bringing out freshly baked food. Turned out that the store opens until 11pm. Got the bacon turkey melt and prosciutto focaccia sandwich toasted to go along with a croissant. Very tasty and fresh. Loved how each item has label on calorie so you can make an educated decision. Turned out some savory items aren't that bad in terms of calorie count. TLDR: Very convenient location of Paris Baguette, right outside of MSG/Penn. I've been going to Paris Baguette since they first opened up in New York in Flushing so many years ago. So when I spotted the signage they were coming to the Penn Station area, I was very excited. They opened up in December of last year. It's a very nicely designed, more spacious than some of the other locations. They have soup available, a good variety of sandwiches, grab-n-go salad/sandwich/yogurt plus coffee and their famous cakes. There's a good amount of seating too, so it's convenient for a meeting or a meetup. I've never had an issue with the quality of PB's product, here is no exception. I've tried the pastries at this location, the sandwiches and soups. They'e all great. So my problem is with the service. Since they've opened I've visited about 6 or 7 times. It's convenient for me to grab a quick coffee or a small bite. I've only actually ended up getting something about half the time, every time it's a pain to flag someone down to help. I understand if I'm grabbing pastries/coffee, I'll end up at the register anyway. When you have sandwiches/soups on display though, there should be someone there to greet you. At the very minimum, I'd expect a team member to ask if I wanted to order anything. So while the sandwiches, etc. here are great, I have to constantly wave at the end of the bar for someone to stop playing with their phone or chatting to help. Even when I've gone to the front of the register to have someone help me on the other side of the store, it takes effort to get the attention of either the cashiers or even the managers. Honestly, just tired of it. So will I pop in here occasionally? Sure, when I want a change from Pret (closer to me) or Starbucks (same distance). If I'm craving PB specifically, I might as well go to the K-Town location. The time it'll take me to walk there is probably when someone might ask me if I need anything. Lots of tables to sit at - we brought our bagels from Ess-A here and grabbed a coffee and pastry to have with it (although no one was really patrolling and we probably could have gotten away with not eating anything here). The bathroom was out of service which was a bit annoying; not sure if that's a constant thing (to deter people from coming here to use the bathroom, or if it was legitimately out of service). We had a fluffy white cake with blueberries - it was nice being able to buy just a slice as a snack (this is a good go to for whole cakes also). With all the great pastry options in NYC I wouldn't say this is a destination, but it's convenient for a quick stop. read more
