Loved our meal here - good service too. Wife's fish sandwich (blackened) was delicious and the pork tenderloin was enough for three meals.

Went to The Breezeway after a good review in the Orlando Sentinel. Got seated right away, since there was no one in any of the tables. 5 or 6 people sitting at the bar. Waitress was timely in coming over and getting our drink order and then following up with our food order. When another party came in we overheard their different waitress tell them the specials etc...Ours didnt do that. But ok, I ordered the french onion soup, it was awful, tasted burnt, cup filled with really awful tasting stale bread, and maybe a tsp of cheese on top! I had to search to find the cheese! Definitely a miss on that! Then we sat and sat and sat, The waitress checked on our food order twice. Still no food...Now remember we were the only ones in the inside of the restaurant, There were only 2 tables of people in the outside dining area. So there is really no excuse that our meal should take almost a half hour to cook. I could understand if we got burgers or something like that. I ordered the appetizer firecracker shrimp - which touted it as tempura battered shrimp with thai sauce...was small shrimp but the batter needs to be more battery if thats a word,,The taste was ok and there was plenty of it. My husband thought he got a ham sandwich but they brought him out a chicken sandwich, I guess the confusion came because the two sandwichs had similar names. The waitress was attentive, hubby got several refills on his soda. If the kitchen is going to be this slow,,maybe popcorn or chips or bread on the table? Prices were normal, no big or great deals. Bill was 30 dollars for lunch, and he only had soda and i had water. Dont know if I would go back for just ok food. read more

I was in the area for the weekend and decided to check out downtown Sanford. Not much going on in this historic "downtown" area but decided to stop by this joint when I heard the live music from the street. Came here late afternoon and the light drizzle rain and the loud thunderous lightening, along with one man band jamming on his electric guitar, made the perfect setting for the Breezeway. Bartender was nice and bubbly but I think she was a bit overwhelmed with the bar rush. I waited about 15 min to order at the outside bar and had to change position and walk closer to her since she seemed to only pay attention to the "other side". She made a yummy drink and one man band was getting cray so I decided to sit and stay at the bar. Ordered another drink and the bartender offered to give me a double for a great price so why not? Ordered calamari which was typical bar food quality (all calamari rings-no tentacles) was a bit bland but okay enough. Bartender didn't get me my drink until after my calamari came. She said she got side tracked and completely forgot. She was very sweet and apologetic - even offered to comp my next drink. With that said, I give it a 4 stars, considering this is honestly the only place I'd consider stopping in, especially after sunset. Everything else around here looks seedy and shaaaady! read more

New to Sanford, after moving down from NY..walked around beautiful little town, and hearing some great music at the breezeway restaurant and bar ...the food menu is well represented with lots of choices..and everything is made fresh .. great cocktail menu , with nice concoctions served in 32oz buckets..the atmosphere reminds me of some great courtyard venues like in NOLA.. Our server NIKI was fantastic.. she made me and my wife feel so welcomed , sat and chilled while explaining menu , I asked about the she crab soup which she highly recommended and offered and brought me a small tasting .. It was excellent ! The food was fresh and delicious .. the music was provided by Dave Mader, great voice and guitar and his setlist was amazing from nirvana to Ed Sheehan, I highly recommend this GEM , I'd come back for food, Kudos to chef and kitchen , I'd come back for Music and Atmosphere, but most of all I'd come back for NIKI, she was fun and amazing and you could tell she loved the place and her job !!! Went here on a lark for dinner, and we were so pleased! The service is friendly and helpful. Our server Shelby could not have been more accommodating. The food was excellent--highly recommend the eggplant rollatnini (seriously my Italian Grandmother could not have made it more sublime), and the Creole Mahi-mahi was straight out of New Orleans. My husband and I have been to this restaurant several times before and the food was amazing and the waitstaff wonderful. Last night we went back to enjoy a good meal and our waitperson was rude, short of any kind of personality, never came back to the table to check on us, took almost 20 minutes to get us our appetizer and the food was so salty I could barely eat it. It was a giant disappointment from our past experiences. I have no idea if there is a new chef, new management or what, but that will be the last time we go to the Breezeway which is a shame because in the past it was great. read more

Just had a great lunch there with coworkers. One of the guys ordered the tenderloin sandwich -- the breaded meat was bigger than the plate! You need to get a take-out container to cut it down to a quarter of the size so you can set it on the bread. The potato chip nachos were unique and tasty. Really enjoyed the First Street sandwich -- tasty ham, bacon and pepperoni and mozzarella on a kaiser, with a pile of home-made chips. Thank you Jessica for the excellent service. read more

The Blackened Mahi Mahi with dirty rice was very good. The music was an eclectic mix of 70's and 80's which was a bit odd (given its 2015) but the atmosphere was laid back and a nice find for downtown Sanford. I liked it much better than Hollerbach which seems to garner high praise. read more

Great location. Love the openness.Decent menu. I got the Sanford special sandwich which is a pounded pork chop breaded and fried with a bun lettuce onion and tomato. Pro the chop is bigger than a frisbee and pretty tasty. Con it needs some kind of sauce because it is dry on bread,they did not really have a sauce that went with it even the menu said it came with a horseradish sauce. I asked for the sauce, first she brought me fresh horseradish, then she brought mayo, it just wasn't what this sandwich needed. Don't get me wrong the pork chop was amazing, just not sure it is sandwich material, needed gravy and mashed potatoes. We had fried green tomaters they were decent. The food i saw around me and on the menu looked amazing, the server was great, my pup gizmo was treated well, and they had a guy strumming a 6 string with some legit vocals. I would go back to try the burgers, the steaks,a few of thier sammys,and some aps. Like i said the menu looks good. Give it a shot even if your not thrilled with food, you'll go back and try something else just because the menu looks so good. I love Sanford and The breezeway will blow you back. read more

Our started out great! We made reservations and were seated right away. Our server took awhile to get our drink order, but that's okay, it was busy. We ordered our appetizer when we placed our drink order. Our server took our entree order much later so we were shocked that our food was delivered so quickly. Our appetizer; however, was delivered well after our entrees arrived. We told the staff member that delivered our cold appetizer that we didn't want it since our food had arrived. She offered to box it but we declined and she said she'd leave it at the table anyway. When our server finally made it back to the table, we explained that our appetizer arrived cold and after our food. She left and didn't return to our table until it was time for the bill. We were still charged for the appetizer...we waited to talk to our server again but eventually gave up and paid because we couldn't continue to wait. read more

Normally I enjoy this place, however today, after seating myself because there was no hostess I sat at my table for almost 15 minutes unattended to. Meanwhile several servers walked by cleaning tables and when a server did arrive that tended to the tables that sat down well after me. Really disappointed today! Great place to go nice evenings. There's karaoke Tues and Thurs evenings (6-10) with a great host a really great crowd. This is not your usual karaoke. The quality of the singers and the party atmosphere is great. I've ordered their Cheesesteak several times. While it doesn't resemble a Philly cheesesteak, it's simply a great steak sandwich. The one issue is the service. It's very spotty and inconsistent depending on who you get. read more

This was the First and LAST TIME I will ever come to this restaurant. We came in on a Sunday early evening. The hostess says it will take 20 mins for a table. There was empty tables in the outside area. We were finally seated. We waited 30 mins to order. We waited 1 hour for food. They brought cold food and broccoli and green beans that were not even cooked. The food didn't taste all that great. We were very disappointed and noticed our waitress nicely. She made NO effort to make our experience any better by taking the broccoli up charge off our bill. She had many excuses and yet no manager came to our table to help with customer service. I just had one of the best steaks I've ate in a long time. My girlfriend had very good blackened Mahi Mahi. The firecracker shrimp for apetizer(spellin) was mouth watering. Passed by a bunch of times on the way to other places, now will make this one a destination because of bar manager Bobby. I had been having a bad time of it, was dragged out by my sister. Bobby's kindness and brilliant hospitality and spunky attitude turned a terrible day into a lovely one. He went out of his way to make me feel good, while still being attentive and friendly with every patron there, and also expertly managing a bar and several wait staff, all at the same time. We went to see West Side Story at the West End theater and I looked to see what was open for an early dinner and the Breezeway was one that was open so we went there. I was extremely disappointed in their service and the food was just OK. We were there for over 2 hours and just got burgers, Philly cheesesteak and a salad and no one was in the inside when we got there. Our server was not good. She never came to our table. Now was this her fault or was she overbooked with several tables outside? I do not know as she seemed like a very nice person. I would definitely hesitate in going back there. read more

Negatives: severely inattentive staff, excessive food wait times, order improperly fulfilled (just mine at our table), and severe attitude when the issue was pointed out. Also, petting dogs and not washing your hands before going back to work. Positives: Good ambiance. Relaxing setting. Live, appropriately volume controlled music. Other three plates of food were far above what we expected. Overall: I wouldn't choose to eat here again but I might go back at some point to see if I just hit them on a really bad day. The Breezeway Restaurant & Bar is situated in a breezeway in antique downtown Sanford. It looks nice - it definitely has a "relaxed in Florida" type of vibe to it. My family had seen this place since it opened but finally decided to stop in. Two adults, an eight year old and a five year old. We were quickly seated. But despite there being plenty (in my view) of servers, we were equally quickly ignored. After fifteen minutes (literal - I happened to note when we were seated) I had to ask for our server. Apparently there wasn't one - the person I flagged (Louis) said he'd take over our table. Strike - Nobody should have to wait so long that they have to ask who their server is. We ordered - I got their version of a chicken sandwich, hot buffalo style, with a twice-baked potato. My wife got a Mile high sandwich with fries, reuben style. My children both got a grilled cheese sandwich. Children's food arrived 45 minutes after ordering. Adult food arrived 10 minutes after that (that's 60 minutes and 70 minutes from being seated). The menu does ask for patience because food is prepared to order, but 45 minutes for grilled cheese and fries is excessive in any world. Strike 2 - Time to get food was too long, even being patient. Also, nobody updated us or checked on our drinks that entire stretch until the food arrived. The food - Positives: Everything came out hot and fresh. Children's grilled cheese sandwiches were every part of the definition of amazing. Gooey, stringy cheese, toasted but not burned, edges seared. It takes skill to do something simple and make it professional. Kudos. Wife's reuben - I almost risked her wrath to steal a bite. She wished she'd bought the other half the sandwich. The food - Negatives: My food. The sandwich didn't seem to have any sauce in it at all. I asked about the buffalo sauce, and was told that they use a butter base for the sauce so it won't appear red. I asked for the mayo that was supposed to be on the sandwich - I was told if I chose buffalo it wouldn't come with mayo. I asked for the mayo, since the description of the sandwich actually describes it coming with mayo. This is where the service broke down, and my experience went downhill. I was asked testily by our server if I wanted anything else on it. I told Louis, "Give me whatever you promised me on the menu." He went back, snatched a menu from the pile (several others fell to the floor), and went into the kitchen (?) area. I got my mayo. After putting that on, I got my first bite. It wasn't buffalo. It was unspiced - no obvious salt, or pepper or spice. It was a black and white sandwich in a world full of color. There wasn't a flavor to profile. It was warm, it was juicy, but it was utterly flavorless. I asked again about the buffalo and tried to explain that it wasn't that I didn't think the sauce was hot enough, but that there was no sauce on it. I'm not immune to heat - there just wasn't any heat. Louis assured me the sauce was on there and asked if I wanted it recooked. Remembering it had taken over an hour to get this sandwich, I asked he take it off the bill. He took the plate, and threw it (loudly) into the outside sink. At that point, when our request for ketchup went unheeded, I just stole the bottle from an adjacent empty table. Strike - Kitchen for making the sandwich missing the ingredient I paid extra for, and the ingredients described in the menu. Strike - Service for behaving like it was my fault instead of a simple kitchen error and for acting out in a public place. Finally, the dog thing: My wife and one child left first, and I was waiting to pay the bill when a lady with an obvious regular with a clearly friendly dog arrived. I am fine with dogs being around in an outside restaurant - especially friendly ones. But while waiting for my change, I saw two servers and the hostess vigorously pet this lovable dog, and then go back to their jobs, without washing their hands. One server delivered drinks and straws, one server helped deliver food, and the hostess went directly back to her station. Final strike - Your hands are what you serve our menus, drinks and food with. I don't know if that's a health code violation or not, but it's definitely gross. I really wish my first experience with this clearly interesting restaurant hadn't been such a disappointment. read more
