The atmosphere was nice, the waitress was great, the only issue was that my husband's burger was a bit bland. I have the Big Chick sandwich grilled and it was slightly bland as well but both were very well cooked and definitely quality food. I would recommend this place. read more

Do not order the mussels - Do order the shrimp and salads. Mussels are the cheapest seafood a restaurant can serve - hence the large amounts given - anywhere else that is, not here. Also, they were swimming in the oil and garlic sauce that was not very well done. The shrimp however, and the salad were very well done and tasted great. I will give it one more try for the steak but will go to bonefish for my mussels. read more

Went here in the middle of the day, when it wasn't busy nor completely dead. Things started off well, got drinks quickly and ordered pretty quickly as well. Unfortunately that is the extent of the positive experience. It took an hour and twenty minutes to get food for two people (a burger and a sandwich) and our waitress didn't seem to think that was too outrageous. The food was decent but nothing special, and there is no way it should have taken as long as it did. Others in the restaurant seemed to have the same experience, since many of them seemed to be commenting on how long their food took. Definitely won't be coming back here for some mediocre food that took forever. read more

Went to the breezeway for lunch with a group of mothers and children, unfortunately our waitress was rude, unfriendly, and at times just plain nasty. I am not sure what her problem was, maybe she was having a bad day, but I found her behavior to be unacceptable. Needless to say our wonderful "mommy" group will never be returning to this place, and I will be sure to tell my friends about how horrible we were treated. read more

Our server Tiffany was great! Came in with a party of 6, but never felt like we were a burden (unlike some other places in town). Two of us got the blackened chicken special, perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Drinks were great too!! My only upset was the stuffed eggplant. Great sauce, but would loved to have more of the eggplant flavor. Would definitely go back and will always recommend! read more

Came here on Valentine's Day around 2:00. Sat outside. They were busy but didn't seem overly busy. The outside hostess seemed stressed. We were waiting a long time for someone to take our drink order and it seemed the hostess got an inside waitress to come out. I ordered the fish and chips which was one of the specials. The food came out fast and she left immediately after placing it on the table. I was finished with one out of two large pieces of fish before she came back and I needed hot sauce for the fish and ketchup for my fries. The batter on the fish was soggy. We went to Sanford St. Patty's evening to hear some blues at the Alley, and went to the Breezeway first for dinner. As might be expected it was slammed, but we quickly got an inside table. It was mass pandemonium because of the crowd, but our drink order was taken immediately and our server, Michelle, let us know dinner orders were backed up one hour. Since we didn't want to wait that long, we changed our mind from grouper sandwich and étouffée , to appetizer crab cakes and fried green tomatoes. We were promptly brought a bread basket- warm out of the oven, just enough garlic ( but not enough to warrant Tums!) and topped with cheese-mmmmmmm, addictive! Our order came out shortly thereafter-a lot faster than we thought- and were extremely well pleas with both the portions-two plump crab cakes, and four thick fried tomatoes, both on a bed of shredded cabbage, and drizzled with roumalde sauce. The crab cakes were mostly crab, and the tomatoes crisp. We cleaned both plates. We also saw a couple later who had come in right before we left who ordered the étouffée , and they said it was fabulous. We will definitely be going back - on a slower night when we can get grouper and étouffée, and to get some more of Michelle's outstanding service! read more

I ate here on a Saturday night with my family and it was delicious! The outdoor patio was a beautiful space and there was live music. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The shrimp and grits was amazing as were the mussels. I would most definitely recommend this to anyone in the area. read more

Been here with my wife and dog. Sanford is a dog friendly town so bring them but only mild tempered plz. Food was good and it was Bloody Mary nite 10.00 all you can drink but they come slow. Lol. Food was good and the dog had her own water bowl. Nice place to hang outside on a cool evening. They had live entertainment for a little while and an outside bar with sports tv. Lol read more

Good food, good service, great outdoor seating (if you don't mind the smoke and the drunks). The assemble-yourself fish tacos were good and the blacked salmon was great and quite big. Both were reasonably priced. The big negative were the drunks and the restaurant's failure to do anything about them. One guy punched his 11 year old son in the mouth and another guy heckled the kid and his sisters so loudly that the singer stopped and went over to have a serious talk with him. The restaurant staff disappeared. And at what late hour did all of this occur? 7pm. I grew up with the owner and he is a good guy, but when a drunk Dad punches his 11 year old son in the mouth, train your staff to call 911. And train your staff to not serve alcohol to people obviously drunk. I will eat here again, but only at lunch. read more

We had the best crab cakes ever for an appetizer, I had the grouper, which was fantastic, my wife had the Sanford special, HUGE pork tenderloin sandwich that was great, and my mom had the grilled shrimp and loved it. We hosted our dad's 74th birthday surprise party here for 25 friends and family. The food was delicious and our server Carol Lynn was so friendly and proficient and even remembered all our guests' names! Highly recommend this restaurant for everyday or a special celebration. read more

Service was soooo slow and the restaurant was dead. We were a party of 7 sitting outside and we waited 10 minutes for the server to take our drink order. Then she dropped off the drinks and didn't take our order for another 10 minutes. Food took 45 minutes, and another 10 minutes for extra dressing. Food was average. Steak and cheese was very dry. I've eaten a The Breezeway several times and I like it and I will be going back! Unfortunately, I find myself stuck on ordering the same thing typically -- their potato skins! I love their potato skins -- the skins have this smoky flavor that's delicious. I've also had their bugers and they're also delicious. So far I've just been popping in and eating at the bar and haven't made it to the outside eating area yet -- which is a very nice setting. I also haven't made it to any of the events they have -- which is why this review is only a 4 so far instead of a 5. Their GM is Michelle and she's very friendly. If you haven't tried The Breezeway, defnitely give it a try. I think you'll find it to be a gem in Historic Downtown Sanford. read more

The food was so good my boyfriend and I ate there twice. On Friday, we sat inside because there were no seats outside. On Saturday we sat outside where we got to listen to the music of a keyboard player. Loved the vibe. I had the blackened group with crab cake and etoufee sauce. Amazing! Melt in your mouth tender and just the right of amount of spice. The crabcake is all crab and just enough breading to hold it together. My boyfriend had the ribeye but once he tasted my seafood, he had to have it. So on Saturday, he had the grouper meal and I had the salmon. Tasty and tender but not as good as the grouper. My boyfriend drinks Washington apple shots and he loved the ones the bartender made. He said they were as good the ones he makes at home! The owner came by our table both nights and chatted with us. Even took the time to tell us about the area when we told him we were considering relocating. And last, but definitely not least, we had a terrific server. Samantha was awesome. Great personality, checked on us often and pays attention to detail. She saved us an outdoor table for Saturday night and even remembered my name. If you go, definitely as for Samantha and have her "sister" behind the bar make your drinks. read more

Called ahead 10 orders for our company lunch. Spoke with Terrica who quickly and accurately took our orders down. She did however refuse to put our names on the boxes which was unusual because we order from a different place every Friday and have never heard of such a thing. We were told our order would be ready in 30-45 mins. The owner of our company went after 45 mins and still had to wait an additional 30. No silverware or napkins in bags. FOOD WAS FANTASTIC, customer service sucks. read more

This was my 2nd and worst visit here. Atmosphere is nice but food was terrible. Asked to substitute mahi for shrimp with the cheese grits.. no problem they said. Mahi was disgusting and fishy and under seasoned a d cheese grits were mediocre. Got the bill and it was a $4 upcharge but was not told. Not going there again read more

What a disappointment we had to wait an hour for our food. French fries brunt, server running like crazy couldn't ask for necessary things to make my meal enjoyable. The breezeway has an extensive menu and it would be hard to review even a small portion of what is on this menu. It's a pretty basic place that everybody seems to enjoy. Their drinks are strong and they offer outdoor seating and karaoke. read more

Really a let down. After reading some good reviews of this place, I was hopeful that it would be better than the last restaurant in this space, two blonde's and a shrimp. While Two Blonde's had decent food (sometimes), their service was always pretty bad. Unfortunately, both the food and the service was a miss on our visit. First let's talk about the service. Slow doesn't even cover it. We were seated outside after finally flagging down an employee to get a table, and our server came over a few minutes later. Apparently she was also the only outside bartender, with about 4 people at the bar, and no other tables occupied outside. She took our drink orders and then went to go make them. I'm not sure what she was doing, but it took about 8 minutes to pour a glass of wine, pop the cap off of a beer, mix crown and ginger ale together, and make a margarita. The restaurant actually cleared out a bit by the time our meal was all said and done, but I'm sorry to say the service didn't speed up any. Next the menu. A fair amount of your standard appetizers (calamari, crab cakes) and sandwiches, but not anything very impressive for dinner. They had three steaks on the menu, a couple of fish dishes (fried, blackened, grilled, even one with cheese and marinara sauce?), a grilled veggie skewer, and a chicken pasta dish. No care seemed to have been taken in developing any sort of composed dish, you just choose an entree, choose a side, and choose a caesar or a house salad. Underwhelming to say the least. I ordered a steak (a ribeye) and my wife ordered a fried fish plate. My steak came out inconsistently cooked. I ordered it med-rare, and parts of it were medium and parts were very rare. The flavor wasn't inedible, but I could have used a bit less black pepper. It made it seem as though they were masking the flavor of a poor quality cut of meat, which it tasted and looked like it was. The steak may have been a little bit better if they had remembered to put on the blue cheese topping that I had ordered. The filling of the twice baked potato that I got as my side was tasty, but the half potato shell it was served in was almost completely raw. The whole thing looked like it had been prepped a few days ago and microwaved before being put on the plate. My wife's fish was a good sized portion, but it did not seem like it was a fresh piece of meat. When my wife asked for the tartar sauce that didn't come on the plate (it was on the menu description), the server brought her a cup of curry mayonnaise. I'm not a hard to please person, but there seemed to be missteps at each point in our meal, and the slow service is inexcusable when there are only 7 other people in the restaurant. I'll not be coming back, and I'm so disappointed because it's such a great space! read more

While strolling around Sanford we decided on this restaurant for lunch. It turned out to be a wonderful choice! For a starter we shared the fried green tomatoes. They arrived at the table piping hot, lightly battered and were absolutely delicious! I had the huge, wonderful 1st Street Sandwich and my friend ordered the shrimp tacos. Both were excellent. I signed up on Yelp specifically to complain about this place. I was in Sanford to watch a friend perform and needed a quick bite. I chose Breezeway and chose wrong! Aside from the fact that my order was completely screwed up, and took forever to get the food made me sick! I was up all night and still dealing with the repercussions the next day. So much fake outrage about the breezeway. Great place to get a sandwich, sip on a drink and listen to some music. The breezy atmosphere lives up to its reputation. The service can be a little slow especially during events in downtown Sanford but nothing worth complaint. read more

Not dog friendly at all. I understand staff not touching dogs but when the staff cannot allow a patron to buy water to give to your dog, forget it. There are plenty of places in Sanford to go other then the Breezeway. read more

Well after reading the glowing reviews I am sad to say I have to give a not so glowing review. 2 weeks ago I went there with a few friends, service was ok, I ordered the siricha shrimp, wedge salad and a burger, got violently ill. Went back with friends this past Wednesday and had absolutely horrible service and my girlfriend ordered a chicken Cesar salad, got violently I'll so I do not see myself going there again. read more

Service was friendly as advertised but slow. Then we made the mistake of ordering steak at a seafood grill. While the cook got the temperature right, the quality of the ribeye prevented it from being completely edible. Twice-baked potatoes were inedible. But the worst part was when the waitress realized there was a problem with the food, she completely disappeared for the rest of the evening. We would not have stiffed her since it wasn't her fault about the food quality, but some servers do that. This shows poor training. read more

WE had dinner there last night and it was the best we have had in the past four years at any restaurant occupying that location. The steaks we perfectly flavored, tender and the twice baked potato excellent. Service was timed well and our server informative and upbeat. It was obvious that the owners not only invested quite a bit of money into refurbishing and updating the kitchen, but a lot of time and labor into cleaning and brightening the restaurant. Definitely we will be back many times and recommend The Breezeway to those visiting Sanford asking for a good place to eat! read more

My husband and I have eaten here many times and had wonderful experiences, but tonight was an exception. After waiting over an hour and a half for our food (three salads and a chicken dish) we had to request to speak with the manager/owner. At most restaurants, when the food is running behind, the manager will come by the table to explain and apologize for the delay. The gentleman on duty tonight didn't seem to care either way.
