Yummy yummy fish tacos! We started with the firecracker shrimp, it was spicy and tasty. Loved the bed of cold slaw. Then I got the mahi mahi tacos. All of the fixens went well with the fish. Don't come here if you are hungry for cheese curds! You'll order them, wait 30 minutes growing ever increasingly hungrier, just to find out they are out of them. At least the waitress reassured me that they'd be taken off my bill. That was a relief I wasn't going to pay for something I didn't get. Oh, this is the 2nd time this has happened here! Loved this place. So glad we tried it. Sat inside because it was hot. Took our drink order right away. A second server came by right after to take our order. Said they partnered. Very true. Drinks never got to the bottom without refills. Food came out quickly. Had the shrimp and grits, mahi bites, and mahi with abaco sauce on the side. All were amazing. Great atmosphere. Great and friendly service from the moment we met the hostess until the last employee said goodbye as we were walking down the street. We were there last night, March 24th 2017 . Food was average. Service was poor. The server never came back to ask us how we were doing with our meal. If she had come back I would have told her exactly what I felt about their service and quality of their food. There are several other wonderful restaurants in downtown Sanford. This is my second time trying The Breezeway in recent months. If you want to sit st outdoor bar and have a drink it's ok. But once again today after waiting for table while the hostess totally ignored us, then came over and took others who were there after us (she didn't speak to them either just nodded) to be seated she finally did come up to us but never spoke a word and took us to a table. Put down menus and still never said a word. No smile no nothing. What is the purpose of a hostess? After waiting 17 minutes with not so much as a nod from a server, we left. We timed it because last time it was exactly the same. No service. I know they have good food as I have eaten there but the service is awful! I have tried giving this place a shot here and there over the years, but it has frequently left a bad taste in my mouth. There food is overpriced, service sucks, and the food tastes mediocre at best. Today it was a little busy and I stopped in after attending another downtown Sanford event. After being seated we were never helped after that again. We waited 30 minutes and no one came to our table... not even to take our drink order. I noticed the couple that came in before hand were never helped either, yet the group that came in after us were (I think they knew the waitress). So we got up and left. I really, really have tried to give this place a chance since I love downtown Sandford so much. Such a prime location... it really is a shame. If I could give them 0 stars, after today I would. The service here is usually pretty poor, but in their defense it is oftentimes somewhat busy. What happened today however, takes the cake. A co-worker of mine likes this place so I went to pick up a gift card. It was about 9:15 on a Wednesday night, so needless to say it wasn't busy. I ordered a beer while I waited for the gift card. The bartender was very nice but was apparently having a problem ringing in the gift card. She kept asking an older gentleman on the other side of the bar questions who in turn, never got off his barstool (I thought he was a manager, but found out later he was the OWNER). After about 15 minutes of this, she comes back and says they had to ring it in as food. So, basically, I paid $3.25 for the beer and the gift card....and sales tax on ALL of it!!! Here are my problems: 1) She didn't ask if I wanted another beer, but assumed I was done (I wouldn't have been). 2) Instead of charging me the whole thing, how about a discount on the beer that would have been comparable to the extra sales tax I paid or..... 3) God forbid, they comp the beer. Instead they both smiled, waved, thanked me for my business as I got screwed. Supposedly they have good food here, so if you go, be prepared for slow service and good luck if you need the owner for anything. For my money, there are just as good if not better places around town. read more

We arrived at the The Breezeway Restaurant & Bar located in the Sanford Historic District at 5:35PM there were 4 of us. We sat outside which was a beautiful day, karaoke was in full bloom the atmosphere was great and everyone friendly. Our waitress was Nicky she was amazing. The food was plentiful and delicious we all had something different I had the Philly cheese sandwich must say the best I have had. BUT do not order the Sangria it was more like fruit punch (disappointing). I will go again and would recommend this place to family and friends. read more

We were walking around, deciding where to eat, and this menu was the closest to what we were feeling that night. The hostess was nowhere to be found. We were told she was seating another table, so we were happy to wait. However, we kept waiting until the bartender came back out and said if we wanted to sit inside we could seat ourselves. We chose a table, but were then told we could not sit there so had to choose a different table. We didn't really have a single waiter or waitress. Multiple people kept coming around and asking if we were okay, and yet the service was still awful. When I left for the bathroom one of the waitresses was smoking inside, in the back hallway by the kitchen. The food came out hot and was fine, but absolutely nothing special. The real reason for the low star ranking are the things we overheard. A large party came in, with two kids. They asked for a table inside and one of our waitresses told them that they were unable to accommodate the party for the next hour. The party left and she tells another waitress that she's "not dealing with that". As we were leaving a couple comes in and are told that the food was going to take 45 minutes to come out. They were not that busy (even on a weekend evening). The couple decides to stay and we watch her roll her eyes as she seats them. The food wasn't amazing, the service was horrendous, and the atmosphere wasn't very good. Oh, and to top it off, it's a bar with no draft beer. I will not be going back. read more

Current Health Inspection: Well, for the 1st time, I cannot find one. I checked under every name possible. Sorry. This is called Breezeway for a reason. It's located in a breezeway and overflows onto the sidewalk. A prime spot for people watching, sun, air, with a great duo singing. Cleanliness was very good. The outside manager gets an A+ for attention to detail and being helpful. Service was good. We ordered the broiled fish sandwich (fish of the day was Haddock) and blackened mahi tacos. The salad that came w/this was surprisingly great. No iceberg! Escarole and a spring mix. Very fresh. The Haddock sandwich came w/a homemade tarter sauce. The fish was so huge it had to be cut in half and piled on the bun. I could find no fault w/it except that the fish was cold when it came to the table. The blackened mahi taco had a slightly spicy sauce on the mahi that was very tasty. There was a decent portion of it. The ambiance is what you come for and the food is very good too! EDIT: Thanks to a fellow reviewer found the health inspection listed under 'The' Breezeway for anyone else. 3 @ Risk violations and 2 Critical violations for:water source safe-hot & cold under pressure, toilet & hand washing facilities and mold in ice machine. read more

Great food, service and portion size. Had the Cteam of Crab Soup. It was full of crab meat and very tasty. We also shared the beef nachos as an appetizer. It was huge! And very, very good. We loved the homemade chips that were used for the nachos. For dinner, we had the blackened shrimp and dirty rice. Again, we were not disappointed. The Breezway restaurant is a great hangout. We went to have lunch and listen to our favorite group THIRD ROCK TRIO. My husband and I had the Chicken Salad and it was bountiful and great tasting. Second try, epic fail. We had a table of 5 and sat outside. Not enough waiters/waitresses. And did the cook take a lunch beak? It took over one hour to have our lunch brought to the table. Others who arrived after us were were served before us. I wen to find the waitress and asked about our lunch, her reply: our was next. We continued to wait and two other tables were served before ours. Finally lunch arrived and my salad had old lettuce with dry overcooked chicken. A few girlfriends and myself came to this friendly little place with the perfect name, The Breezeway for a drink last Saturday night. The weather was perfect so this was a nice place we could sit outside and enjoy it. The bar staff was extremely nice and the drinks were priced well. There was a guy playing a keyboard and had a "band in a box" and he was killing it. He said he could play anything and he pretty much proved himself to be right! Had it not gotten a little too chilly for us Florida girls we would have stayed a little longer. We didn't eat so I can't talk about food but the drinks we tasty. This is a unique spot in downtown Sanford. As the name implies, there is a huge breezeway patio area that has a bar and live music. I enjoyed sitting out here and listening to the band and enjoying the weather. The service was great, our server was efficient and helpful. However, the food was just ok. We ordered salads and appetizers. The wedge salad was really good, a half head of lettuce with lots of bacon and blue cheese. No complaints there! Of the appetizers, the firecracker shrimp was the favorite. The sauce was a nice combination of tangy and spicy. The fried mushrooms, served with tiger sauce, were alright, not terrible but not amazing. The crab cakes were just a big disappointment. Mushy and bland. I wouldn't completely write this place off, as their drink selection was enjoyable. I would come back for drinks and to take in the live entertainment. The Breezeway has been open for about one year now. Which is still fairly new in terms of restaurants in my opinion. Since I live in the downtown Sanford area, My family and I have dined here on a few occasions since its conception. Sanford has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the last few years, and as such it has affected each and every one of its small privately owned businesses. In spite of that, I can tell you that I've seen drastic improvements in the service and food quality here at The Breezeway since it's opening. The atmosphere has always been fantastic, whether it's enjoying the outdoor sidewalk and patio service during a lovely sunny day, or at night under its hundreds of twinkling lights. I do suggest The Big Fish sandwich or The Pork Tenderloin sandwich. I appreciate that The Breezeway does appear to take pride in their new little business, and that they have been taking the time to listen and learn from their consumers with regard to what they are expecting. The food was good- not amazing yet. The service was also good. The atmosphere was perfect. We enjoyed the live music, but it would be nice if it was a tad quieter, so that we could enjoy a dinner conversation without having to repeat ourselves. We will be back soon. read more

We originally had a reservation for the German restaurant in downtown Sanford , but after 3 and a half hours we were told they over booked and wouldn't be able to dine that night . So , as we were walking to the car we popped our heads into The Breezeway to check the availability for 15. The host was more than excited to get us sat and immediately got us a nice table altogether on the patio . The ambiance was nice and the live music really added to the positive dining experience. My biggest issue was how long it took to get our checks at the end, but I do understand that I am asking a lot when we are 15 people with almost all separate checks . The staff was beyond accommodating and friendly the entire duration of our stay . I personally ordered the Sweet Breezeway to start out with , which was a sweeter tequila mixed drink, but not overbearing. For dinner I had their Firecracker fish tacos and they were really good ! I am personally not a fan of the make my own taco ordeal, but for those of you that like everything on the size , this is the dish for you . Everyone else seemed to enjoy their entrees , and the portion sizes are meant for sharing . My friend ordered the Sanford special and it was special alright lol . The size of the fish sandwich was quite comical . It was larger than her head , and the server brought a to go box when he dropped off her entree . I came out to The Breezeway a second time with my husband and 2 friends. We were in downtown Sanford for a little bit of a bar crawl and wanted to get some food before commencing on our night of debauchery. My first choice when eating in downtown Sanford is always the Willow Tree, but that comes with a heavy price tag, so we thought we'd give the Breezeway a shot for dinner. The place was packed, and we were promptly seated at one of the tables on the patio near the water fountain. Unfortunately this meant that the 2 sitting on the end near the fountain got splashed the entire time. The patio is also made of brick, so don't expect your table to be level. The service was really slow, we sat for about 15 minutes before a waitress even acknowledged us. After that she was very friendly, just took a long time for food service. I was surprised to see how pricey their menu was, we could have honestly eaten at the WIllow Tree for around the same price (sans the Boot). Their appetizers range in price from about $7-$14, and their entrees from $9-$30. I got the Fish Reuben with fries and a side salad. It was okay but at a $14 price tag I was a little put off. My husband got the fish tacos. They came unassembled. If I had ordered them and had to put them together myself I would have been pissed, but my husband said they were good once he got them together. We each had a few drinks, and between the two of us our bill was over $60. I wouldn't write this place off for lunch, but for dinner it just seems there are a lot better options at a better price tag in the area. read more

We have been going to the Breezeway almost since the day it opened. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Sanford. Management regularly walks the tables and enquires about your experience. Love the filet, fried shrimp, burger, and ribeye. Management even started to carry angry orchard after I asked about it. They are very dog friendly and we frequently take ours with us to dinner. Overall, the service we have had has been fine. There are some servers we prefer to others but there has never been a really bad service experience. There was one incident with the kitchen but management resolved it immediately and there has never been a problem since. The Breezeway is our go to place and there have been times we go there 2-3 times a week. read more

We come here every time we are in town. The place is pretty consistent with good food, good selection, and live music, generally good. The main drawback is their service. On a slow day, Sunday or off hours you still wait for seating and for drinks even though there is less than 30% of tables filled. Based on food alone they would get 4 to 5 stars.
