I've looking for a place to kind of just chill and so I had to come check out The Brewhouse. For a good assessment of this place I felt it was essential to drink a few beers, and have some food as well. Needless to say, this place is pretty awesome. Food: Burger was poor quality. I'm not sure if this is the norm, but the bun tasted a little too dry. The patty is much better, very juicy albeit a little greasy. One of the draws for me was that this place has burgers but I wouldn't recommend it. That being said, there's a brighter side in the fries - fries are pretty darn good. Wings were surprisingly good as well. Not the greatest wings but not terrible. In Santa Barbara, that's about as good as it gets anyway. (Unless I'm wrong...PLEEEASE tell me) Drinks: Beer selection is great, the beers are incredible. Great happy hour. Overall I like the vibe of this place and the service is amazing. Even amongst COVID I had very friendly, kind, fast service. I ordered a drink, they let me know they were working on it, and it was at my table before I knew it. Pretty good! The fillet mignon stroganoff was excellent. Warm and homey - I left my sweater at the hotel, but this warmed me right up. SCRUMPTIOUS. Lovely waitress! She wore a mask the whole time and checked in often, but not TOO often. Took some peanut-butter pie to go, and it was darn good too! read more

I had not been here in many years, but I had always loved their Lentil soup and thus came with a friend to try their good. My friend ordered a prime rib open faced sandwich and I ordered the r beef strips soup, with bit of prime rib with lots of mushrooms! The prime rib was awesome and huge, we shared and still had plenty left! The soup was to die for! I ate every bit of it and even ordered a bowl to go! It was that tasty. Went here on Sunday around 10am for brunch. It was $27 for buffet brunch with bottom less mimosas. The buffet set up isn't very long, but there is still a really nice selection of food. My favorites were the chilaquiles, the eggs Benedict (made to order), the Belgian waffles (made to order), and the chicken wings. The staff was very accommodating, some people in our group didn't want mimosas, only champagne, and they happily accommodated them. They also overheard us toast my mom's birthday so at the end of the meal they brought her a DELICIOUS slice of peanut butter pie. I would definitely recommend for brunch. read more

Went on my gf's birthday trip last year in 2017, with the ladies and walked to this place from our hotel. Great recommendation from a local, who worked the front desk. Um, the oysters were HUGE, as a So Cal resident, I'm used to tiny, sweet raw oysters. This joint had huge, yummy raw oysters. Go SB! The food was good, the beer menu was legit, and the ppl were all nice. I always like seeing neighborhood joints where parents can bring their kids too. read more

The dog menu and heated patio are a bonus. The food is mediocre. I ate here twice while visiting Santa Barbara. I tried their onion rings, french fries, and a few sandwiches. We were recommended this place and had popped over to SB to explore for a few hours. Little did we know it would be extremely slow service and not even friendly at that. It took about 10 mins for someone to come to our table and acknowledge us with menus. Once she did, it was very dry service that seemed like we were almost a burden being there. The beer was just okay, I'm a pretty frequent brewery hopper. The food was decent as well but nothing I'd rave about. I think there are probably some better options around the area. read more

Well, the IPA I had was really good which was "Motivation Killer" and that's pretty much the height of this trip. Husband got the burger which was good and he liked the chili also. I however got the turkey burger which was one of the worst things I have ever put in my mouth! Only took 2 very small bites and when our waitress came to get our plates, I told her it was bad and she offered no reaction or anything. The service was good, but she really should have asked if I wanted something else or asked what was bad about it. We won't be going back to eat here sadly. read more

This is a great neighborhood brewery, restaurant and place to hang out. Most recently, we stopped in with our group of 8, were seated quickly, and we all had a pretty good experience. It was happy hour so I opted to get some dishes off the happy hour menu. I think the $7.50 cheeseburger and a pint is too good a deal to ever pass up! We also got the chili cheese fries and they were as greezy good as they sound. One of our favorite happy hour apps is the house potato chips with Gorgonzola (I recommend applying a generous amount of malt vinegar for total satisfaction!) The nachitos were okay. The soft pretzel was good (especially for the kids) but I ate the dip. The fried jalapeno popper was excellent and Yes! it makes sense to order them one at a time. They were perfect heat this time but I have heard you can get some real fire with them -we got two:) The kids got the pasta with butter and Parmesan and it was just okay. A couple of people got the giant BBQ burger and I would have been envious if I was not surrounded by happy hour dishes. The beer is good. It is not out of this world but there brews are well honed and very drinkable and they have an impressive selection. It is worth getting a growler to go! read more

Came in with a group of 11 for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and sat outside. Asked for waters for the table and the female server brought us 4 waters. We asked for several more waters and she muttered " I'll bring them as long as you drink them " When it came time to order we asked that the checks be divided 4 ways and she said that's it's written bottom of the menu that no split checks for groups larger than 8. She was right about this. We politely asked if she can make a one time exception and she flat out said no. I asked her if she can make these type of decisions on behalf of the business and she said yes. (Some kids in their 20s act like they own the place they work at) I asked to talk to a manager and I can see the gears turning in her head as she was trying to think of an excuse. She was starting to say I can't see a manager but that cannabis fried brain of hers kicked into second gear and came up with "there is no manager here today". I should have replied back, "can I speak to an adult who works here at least". Next she said that we have been rude to her from the moment we walked in. And this is where it gets good. I told her about her comment about her bringing water as long as we drink them and how that was rude and I was offended. She replied back that we can just leave. We immediately got up and left and this business lost out of a good $300+ revenue. Since I travel for work, I eat out a good about of times a week. I've only left restaurants because they are too busy and can't get service. This is the first time a wait staffer has caused us to leave. I know this waitress is not a good representation of this business, staff, or management. I feel this review is warranted to let the owner know that they need to re-evaluate her employment or put her through some training courses to correct her skill sets needed to succeed in the service industry. read more

We visited The Brewhouse a couple of weeks ago on a road trip to Santa Barbara. After arriving there we realized that we had visited it 20 years ago. The beer selection was very good as well as the food. Harmony was our server and she was excellent! Very informative, kind and funny. Service was very slow and food was average. They had run out of every beer my husband wanted but we still had a great time here. Has an outdoor patio and a nice inside area as well. In a great location (very close to the train station). They have a house made veggie burger but I ended up with the grilled cheese and salad. My husband got a bacon and blue cheese burger. Such a nice spot! Waited for takeout and the bartender gave us a tasting glass of our beer before putting our takeaway pints into paper coffee mugs - whatever works! I opted for the Sierra Nevada Resilience to contribute to the Paradise, California fire victims relief fund. My husband tried the West Beach IPA, but preferred the Planned Hopsolescence. * We visited in January, 2019 during a Saturday during NFL conference finals. The main tap room was a full house and more guests enjoyed the sidewalk tables; we were fine with our table in the secondary, slightly quieter dining room. * Our server, Harmony, regularly checked on us and did an excellent job to ensure we were were well hydrated and fed. 3 for food and facility: * The cobb salad and (grilled) vegetable plate are among the healthiest options. I was very pleasantly surprised by the food and service at this place. It looked like kind of a dive, and it was really LOUD. True, it was 6 p.m. on a Saturday evening. Fortunately, there was a booth section with a fairly substantial wall that provided a little buffer from the, "OMG put a cork in that laugh", noise from the bar. The service was excellent. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The food arrived quickly. I had the grilled eggplant sandwich with side salad. Amazingly, the eggplant was beautifully grilled. I was also very surprised by the quality of the side salad. It wasn't the usual handful of mixed greens with a lone tomato. It was a salad of mixed greens, with a variety of vegetables, a touch of Parmesan cheese and tossed with my choice of dressing, balsamic vinaigrette. Even my friend commented on how nice the side salad was. Being an excellent cook herself, food compliments are exceptional. So, if you're just coming off the train, do consider taking a quick stroll over to this restaurant rather than mobbed touristy (expensive) State Street. This place is where the locals hang out, and with good reason. This place provides friendly service and good, reasonably priced food. read more

I love this place. I'm not in love with many restaurants, but this one has a hold on me. We've always had great service, great food, and great beer. You really had me at great beer, but I guess the rest is ok too. Another thing that I'm in love with is their oyster shooters. 2 bucks a pop. Served in a little shot glass and delicious every time. The real question is how many will I order this time? Served 4-6 during Happy Hour, but if you ask, you can get them anytime. Our last visit introduced us to the pastrami. Thick cut and served on toasted bread. Oh so good. She got a salad. Can't remember which one but we did a lunch tango. Switching dishes back and forth. IPA is always on tap and I'm sure the other beers are good, we just don't roll that way. It's hops or nothing. The restaurant has a nice patio area to hang out and enjoy the Santa Barbara weather, comfy seating inside by the bar in chairs that remind you of mom's house, or booths if you're looking for that intimate dinner date. On a recent vacation I asked some friends where to go for a beer downtown - and the responses were unanimous, The Brewhouse, of course! I did nto want to drink in a tourist trap, and this was the perfect place. Even though it was walking distance from State Street, the chi is so much different here. The Brewhouse handcrafted brews are made on the spot, so points for local movement friendly beer. But that is not all, they sell 16 tap beers of liquid goodness to chose from. Some of them are really strong so I was glad that they had an extensive food menu too. I had a fish burger and it perfectly complimented my IPA. On a Thursday night they had live music and a full house. Literally every table was full with effervescent people and smiling faces. The locals were out in force and the Brewhouse has a great vibe. read more

My friends and I had a terrible time here. We went on a Sunday evening and the waitress tried seating us outside (in 40 degree weather without the hearing lamps). We requested to be seated inside at a table - there was a table open that seated 10. She wouldn't allow us to sit there because we had a group of 6. One of the girls just ended up asking a random waiter if he could seat us inside, so we were able to in the end. The food was terrible. We felt a little sick after eating here. I have been going to the Brewhouse for 20 ish years (crazy). I had my very first grilled artichoke at the Brewhouse and it is still the best grilled artichoke I have ever had in my entire life. All their food is great, but I am obsessed with the artichoke. I am newly obsessed with the pork chop with the apricot glaze. I am not even a big pork eater, but this piece of meat is so good. My husband thinks it's too sweet, I personally think it is perfect. I generally add a little salt and then I am in heaven. I know The Brewhouse is not much to look at, but the food is fantastic, there grill must be special. The beer is good and always has been. I love sitting outside with my dogs. I love that is a neighborhood bar with a great kitchen. My husband and I have been before and the service was not great, everyone is nice, but that doesn't mean the service is always on. This place surprised me. There is kind of a sports bar/dive bar vibe and I didn't realize at first that they are an actual brewery. I had a couple flights and liked most of the beers. My second time to the Brewhouse and both times I came away a bit underwhelmed. The location, outdoor seating, extensive beer list, and wide selection of food options set the Brewhouse up for success. Although my experiences have been ok I must have higher expectations because I've always been hoping for more. So many of the food items on the menu seems appetizing. The first time I was here I had a decent burger. The patty was bland on the dryer side and the fries were ok. The second time around I had the steak sandwich. Although the sandwich was considerably better than the burger the flavors of the steak even with the au jus were lacking. Again the fries were ok but it seemed like they weren't fresh and they were cooked an hour ahead of time. The one thing that really stuck out this time around was with one of my beer orders. I asked to "taste" one of the beers before I committed to a pitcher. I was surprised to be served a large 4oz glass and was even more surprised to be charged for it. It was disappointing because the waitress didn't tell me ahead of time. It also would have been nice to receive some insight on the different beer selections to help narrow my choices. I guess the disclaimer is that ... this is a college bar. I didn't really know what kind of place this would be, I only knew that it was open late and served food still so I picked this place to come when we first got into Santa Barbara and were hungry and wanted something. They do have their own beers, and other beers on tap as well as bottled. When we came, they were having their Oktoberfest celebration and ... well, it's a college bar I'm just going to leave it at that. For being a brew pub, the obvious highlights are the beers and the pub food. But FACT: the Brewhouse does have cocktails. Surprise! Yes, it's not easily apparent because I've just tried scouring the website to view a cocktail list and there's none to be found. I went there recently with some friends with a plan to sample the cocktails. And luckily, there was enough of us that we could sample and share a number of them, and smack our lips appreciatively without getting drunk. The staff were great to chatter with about the cocktails, because apparently it's a group decision on developing the recipes. Yay for democracy. There's a newly developed list of them, printed on a card placed on the tabletops, the prices are in the $6 range. From this list, my favorite was the Pineapple Express. Appropriately fruity and girlie, as I happen to be a fruity girlie as well. Good fit. Within the official menu, though, was my favorite of the night. The grand Marvedere! It's a pint glass, filled with ice, Belvedere vodka, and about 3 ounces of Martinelli's sparkling cider. You are served the small Martinelli's bottle on the side to top of the drink yourself, but the initial 3 ounces start out in the pint glass for you. It is sweet from the cider, while the alcohol is subtle and smooth. And quite potent. $10. Pair it with a generous plate of their french fries, which have that honest cut-in-house crisp taste and there's happiness for an hour or two. The place is still crazy-busy at night, with folks hanging out and noshing. But have a look around, it's people of all ages and all walks of life. Not just CDBs (cougars and douche bags). Good and fun atmosphere. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside. The outside area is not very glamorous... I mean there is a liquor store nearby and also train tracks with trains going by. But the food is plentiful and tasty. The oysters were fresh tasting and decently priced. The grilled artichoke was good and so were the fish and the bacon wrapped filet mignon. The service is friendly and fast. This review is for the breakfast buffet. I've never been much of a buffet girl, but Brewhouse has something for everyone. Their breakfast spread offered fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, turkey, three different types of potatoes, a pancake station, toast, buffalo wings and polenta. The made-to-order station offered omelettes, waffles and eggs benedict. The two men running this station were efficient and quick to get everyone their order. Very cool locals spot on the less crowded side of Santa Barb. This place is definitely a fun neighborhood hangout where the food and spirits are awesome! After a day at the beach and before hitting the road back to OC, we decided to stop and have lunch. Was met by the friendly gentleman host who greeted us and our doggie with a smile. Sat us out on the patio and took our order. Took in a refreshing Moscow Mule, then on to Halibut Fish Tacos! Super delicious and tasty, I def recommend. Ordered lunch for my dog, and to my surprise, she loved it. The server even brought ice water for her too. A+ from me for service. (Note for myself: have to come back and try their beers) Perks: Doggie friendly!! They even have an outstanding Dog Menu -from Hot Dog to Steak. Your pooch will love! People Menu is great too.
