The one woman working struggled to hear our orders, and after a long wait, the drinks came out with coffee grounds floating at the top, and were an extremely pale color (even for lattes). I needed a sammich and a good cup of coffee but I wanted to check out a new place that I hadn't been or eaten from before. I didn't have time to leave my office and go explore the Monday thru Friday businesses further away from me so out came the UberEats app and I found that I could order from this place. Seemed like a simple place to get a sammy. I ordered an Ultimate Brick Sandwich (turkey, ham, roast beef, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted ciabatta) and a latte with irish cream syrup and I couldn't wait for it to get here. The Uber driver arrived at my job about an hour later (should've been 30 mins) and stated "this was a hard pickup" but never said why. Maybe parking had something to do with it, I don't know. But I was hungry and grateful. The sandwich was so good! I actually felt like I was eating healthy and compared to the Camel Rider (ham, bologna and salami, american cheese, banana peppers, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and italian dressing in a pita) I made the right choice today. It was enough to sustain me for the rest of the day and I could easily say "No thanks" to co-workers offering me donuts, danishes, apple fritters, and candy all day long. The coffee was pretty good too. The irish cream syrup was not overpowering and added just the right amount of flavor to it. This coffee shop located in the lobby of the Ed Ball Building in downtown Jacksonville is a great stop for coffee, chai, sweet pastries, breakfast sandwiches and lunch. The coffee is Seattle's Best and always fresh. The espresso drinks rival Dunkin or Starbucks. The food is always tasty and freshly prepared. Of note, this is a clean business. There are restrooms in the shared lobby outside the restaurant as this is within the first floor of a government building. There are perhaps three or four smaller tables inside to sit and eat but business is primarily to go. At peak breakfast and lunch times there will usually be a short line but the line progresses just fine. Give this local coffee shop a try; you won't be disappointed. Be aware, at least in 2021, the hours are 7am-2pm M-F, closed on weekends. read more

The Brick is a great downtown addition and local addiction for me. I don't drink coffee (shocking, I know), but it's my go to place for hot chocolate, chai lattes and smoothies. If you are a coffee person, they have a full Seattle's Best coffee bar and can make you whatever non fat-full sugar-extra hot-mochachino-with crack syrup you'd like. For breakfast, my top picks are the Glorious Morning muffin and sausage/cheese croissant. There is also an assortment of donuts, scones, breads, fruit, yogurt/granola, drinks, snacks, etc. I've never had lunch there, but they use Boarshead lunch meat and my friends have assured me the sandwiches are good. The owner, Diane, is a nice lady and remembers her regulars. She even baked two dozen cookies to order for me when I needed snacks for a meeting. They convinced me to try a chai latte with pumpkin syrup - it was delicious so I'm now working my way through all the syrup flavors. If you're in the downtown area, stop by The Brick. The good: I had a delicious caramel mocha. It was the perfect respite from an extremely brisk day! As a former barista, I can appreciate a well-proportioned latte. This was no exception. Also, this shop is very close to the courthouse if you work there! My latte was ready in under 2 minutes, though the store was packed. The caveats: Really quickly. There is no parking available nearby which was kind of sad. I also couldn't find the shop as it is in a larger building. Additionally, the shop itself is pretty small. Since this place is good, it gets pretty jam packed. The BEST: Ask what flavor scones they have available. Seriously. I tried the raspberry white chocolate scone on a whim and will never look back. There are not many coffee and breakfast alternatives in downtown so it's nice to have this one close to my office. The Brick Coffee house is a cozy little cafe just a block from Everbank. They have good coffee and I really enjoy their breakfast sandwiches. On this day I had a sausage egg biscuit. The egg was really fluffy and biscuit was perfect. He space inside is a little cramped. They recently added a few tables outside if you don't mind feeling like you are on a makeshift patio built on the travel lane. (I hope the drivers are paying attention) Service here is good and what you should expect. They are relatively quick and all orders are brown bagged to go. read more

In a tucked away city office building off hogan street. I walked from my new office located three blocks away. The place is modestly busy but the order line moves quick. They have a good selection of coffee, tea, drinks, breakfast, and lunch. There is seating in the front of the cafe. Good prices as well! As a downtown employee, it is hard to find quick, reasonable, delicious places to enjoy lunch. I have walked past here several times, but finally decided to stop and check it out today. At first I was a little nervous of the line, because it was out the door. But after trying the food here, I can understand why people come back multiple times and are willing to wait in line. I decided to try the half and half combo of soup and sandwich, since there was a bit of a chill in the air, perfect for soup. I chose the turkey sandwich and the New England clam chowder. For the meal, plus a Smartwater, it was under $10...sold! I had to wait maybe five minutes, but the guy who gave me my order recognized that I was waiting for it, asked if I was number 95, and gave it to me with a smile and "Have a nice day"! I'm big on service, so this sealed the deal for me in possibly being a returning customer. The soup was creamy and full of clams, and the sandwich had plenty of meat on it, plus the bread was nicely toasted. I enjoyed sitting and enjoying my meal while people watching and relaxing my brain for a little bit. I will be sure to add this to a place of regular lunches! read more

This is another great fine downtown in the Edward Ball Building. Friendly staff and courteous. Seating inside and outside, however the space is narrow coming in and moving down the counter. These guys move the crowd through very quickly and they do it without rushing you.
