Food was delish. Stopped before a concert at The Ritz, it is just a block away and the perfect stop for reasonably priced fresh, healthy-ish meal before you wreck your liver. BFF had the Bird and Pig, she loved it. I had the Blackstar Bean Burger. It was spicy which in my opinion was perfect. The drinks are pricy, but well crafted. Our service was meh. The Bricks has a super cool vibe. I've visited multiple times for dinner and once for drinks. I'm always impressed with their sandwiches and other food. Normally everything is very fresh and tasty. They have a good sized line up of craft beers most of them local to the area, which is something I'm always looking for. It's sort of a dive-y location on the outskirts of the main part of Ybor. Late night they have a small menu of appetizers/small plates and have a DJ. It's clientele leads to some awesome people watching. All in all, definitely worth a try. I really love this restaurant for all that it is. The Bricks is exaclty what I expected it to be and more. They have a great beer selection and I order the same food all the time. I either get the salad with the basil pesto dressing or the black bean burger. The black bean burger is one of the best I've had at a restaurant. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm up north somewhere at a pub and I love it for that. The staff are always super friendly and welcoming and accommodating. The scene is very hipster but unlike other hipster bars they don't make you feel weird if you're not 'like' that. I've been numerous times and I know I'll be back again. Very cool place. Strongbow was in the house although I opted for a vodka tonic. My first time here after reviewing it on Yelp. True to the the reviews, the music is kick ass...not your standard average everyday selection. Second, the food was not only unique but quite delicious! We had a starter of tapenade, awesome...but you better like garlic....like REALLY. Stay away from this if on a first date...or on a lunch break. I had the grilled cheese with green apple, blue cheese and bacon. YUM! The side of potato salad...not so much...boring would be the best way to describe it. However, you do get a choice of sides, I just chose wrong. I had a bite of my date's pulled pork sandwich, don't recall which it was, but very yummy. Very disappointed! My boyfriend and I order the same thing from here every time (Bird & Pig sandwich w/ potato salad) the sandwich is NORMALLY the best sandwich you will ever consume but for some stupid reason they decided to change the sandwich and also no longer serve potato salad as an optional side. The sandwiches chicken is now "pulled" instead of sliced, there is no honey pressed bread and there is no longer a sliced Granny Smith apple on it. I will not eat/order from here. I have ate the "UPDATED" sandwich twice before posting this review and was highly disappointed both times. I really like this place a lot. The atmosphere is very laid back and the food is great. They have some fun plays on traditional fare. It's vegetarian friendly. In fact our waiter said that one of the chefs is vegan. Always nice to go to a place that at least respects us weirdos that don't dine on flesh. Can you say hipster/trendyness to the 3rd power?! The lighting is very dimly lit (Can be hard on the eyes if you are coming in from the bright outdoors), and the tables are spaced out nicely. There were flat screen tvs behind the bar area and a variety of skateboard art along the walls of one section of the room. The skateboard art was by far the most interesting eye catcher in my opinion. It was apparently for sale, for any person interested in having some outside the box art in their office/room. There was also a section that houses a variety of board games. So while I waited for my food, I got the chance to school my GF in some Connect 4! Haha! I had the Cigar CIty Brewed Beer which was good as well as the quesadillas as an appetizer (which were awesome!). All in all, this is a nice, low key spot to grab a drink or grab some food. Cocktails are very good, and the beer selection is fairly broad. Rodney at the bar will take excellent care of you. We came for lunch--and it's a fine work/meeting environment by day--and again on a Saturday night when there was a DJ, who played some fairly excellent selections. I've been to The Bricks a bunch recently for casual meetups and to get some work done outside the office. It's a great addition to Ybor with a great atmosphere and excellent selection of food, coffee, beer and wine. The service has been good, consistent and accommodating. Love that they bring you a large bottle of water for the table. Most recently tried the Derby chicken sandwich and was very pleased. I confess to creeping on this place before we made the trip down to Tampa, becoming a fan in advance just because I was a fan of SPoT's service and wanted to support another one of their ventures. The images of daily and drink specials that occasionally popped up on my newsfeed only reinforced that I had to give The Bricks a try. Nice fresh salsa with the chips, beautiful space and as my girlfriend put it "I can't help but love a restaurant that doesn't play shitty music" as Joy Division segued into Refused's "Summerholidays vs. Punk Routine" (top 10 song for me). Skate videos provided a nice distraction while waiting for lunch to arrive and thanks to my attempt to watch Fully Flared and eat at the same time I might have spilled more of my veggie burger than any adult should. The lady had the deluxe grilled cheese and I was somehow able to pry it from her hands long enough to steal the tiniest of bites. This used to me my favorite restaurant in Tampa. Unfortunately they decided to get rid of nearly everything good on their menu. First they got rid of taco Tuesday, which was cheap and awesome. No big deal though because they still had The Cure, the best item on the menu and practically the only thing I ever order there. Nope, not anymore. They decided to move this item to the brunch menu that's only available on saturdays and sundays. Next they decided to remove the potato salad as a side. Literally they got rid of everything that I liked about this place. It's sad because before I would have easily given this place 5 stars. One of my favorite bars in town. Great for a light meal. I love the atmosphere. Lots of veggie options. My favorite is the deluxe grilled cheese and brick layer. The food is good but I am never full with one sandwich. I love that they support local art and always have shows. Parking is a bit difficult, but where in Ybor is it not. The bathrooms are always clean which is nice for Ybor. They do have a small patio outside. Little known fact they grow all the herbs and garnish in a roof top garden. Definitely a bike friendly bar and you often see bikes tied to poles up front. Late night on the weekends there is often a DJ and more bar less food. read more

The Bricks is a wonderful restaurant, just... don't go during peak hours. I always seem to end up there during a rush and despite their wait staff's best efforts I don't get my food for at least 45 minutes. I most recently had lunch at the Bricks for their "Goth Brunch" event. I had a Witches Brew Mimosa, the biscuits and gravy, and a Boo-rito. The drinks are always bomb, although the world could do without the plastic straws. (My wrap was held together with a plastic skewer, entirely unnecessary.) Always a good amount of alcohol in the drinks, my friends all agreed on that point. The biscuits were dry and the gravy was flavorless, which was unexpected because it was a beautiful red peppery color. The boo-rito however was FANTASTIC, the eggs were every so slightly runny, the chorizo was heavenly, and it had just enough potato to bring it all together. Everything I've had for the most part is pretty good, but I have to give it three stars because of the consistently long wait times. Come before you are hungry - throw down some drinks, and you'll have a great time. read more

Really enjoyed this place. I wanted to try a Cuban sandwhich while I was in Tampa-- and the bricks did not disappoint. It's a nice quiet spot that's easy to get to. Was in Ybor volunteering at the Ybor Chamber Oktoberfest pub crawl on Saturday afternoon. The Bricks was the #1 stop on the pub crawl map. After we were done volunteering, we stopped in to check out the place and get a free sampling of Hex Ourtoberfest from Magic Hat. We were really hungry and saw someone next to us eating the Bratwurst sandwich. It looked great so we tried it... was sooo good! It's hard to find healthy options on the road at times, so I was psyched upon finding The Bricks menu. I called in my order and was greeted by the nicest manager, Josh. He was cool and made ordering over the phone super simple... though their online ordering option seems great too. Ate here last night with the boy after months of wanting to try The Bricks and I have to say I definitely enjoyed my experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and were able to sit wherever we liked. The atmosphere was immediately very calming and chill and was a nice change from my very stressful day and I felt that I could breathe with no worries! Cool music was playing in the background, awesome art was hanging on the walls, all felt right with the world for a moment! To start as far as drinks - I had a modified version of the "bricks, paper, scissors" martini since they do not make this particular drink any longer. It was awesome. Bill had a bloody mary which he said was a little too spicy - he is picky about his drinks but he did say it had a good flavor! In addition, we also had the "cereal bowl" shot. OMG. Cereal is about my favorite thing on this entire planet and this drink was definitely amazing! It tasted just like the milk at the bottom of a bowl of fruit loops! This shot was definitely one of the highlights of my week! :) For an appetizer, we had the bricklayer which was very good and the salsa was fresh! For dinner - I had the Elvis without the bacon which I thought was absolutely awesome. It was a peanut butter and banana sandwich with honey on cuban sweet bread. AH-MAZING! It also came with a side of sliced green apples and cranberries and the fruit was very fresh. Bill had the Ahi Tuna BLT sandwich. He said that the sandwich was ok - tuna was cooked well however, he said that it was "too much bread for me." I think he is silly. I mean really, when can you have too much bread?!?!? To end our meal we had coffee to go. He had the Liquid Heroin and I had the Sonny Bono lattes. The coffee was strong and delicious. I'm between 2 and 3 stars here. I like the atmosphere. Love the space. The walls always have super cool local art. The menu is filled with things that sound great. My food has just been so-so. I've had the Bird and Pig, which everyone raves about. It's hard to go wrong with brie, and sweet Hawaiian bread. My last visit, I ordered the Deluxe Grilled Cheese which includes spinach, pesto, mozzarella cheese, tomato, and onions. My mistake was that I added turkey to it. The turkey was dry and tasteless compared to the fantastic ingredients and garlicky pesto. Note to self: don't do that anymore. Side options include: mixed greens with a light dressing, potato salad, tortilla chips, and an Asian slaw. One thing I like about the Bricks is that you can be good if you want or you can be really bad. I like a restaurant that gives you options. The menu includes appetizers like hummus and veggies, wraps, sandwiches, quesadillas, a variety of grilled cheese, and some amazing peanut butter sandwich options. PB & Pickle? It was on the dry side and not really that flavorful. The Asian slaw was also average from a flavor profile. The best part of my meal was the cranberry juice. Visited The Bricks this evening for dinner with a group of 6 and I think I can say we all enjoyed our experience - I give it a solid 3-stars because I wasn't blown away by the food, ambiance or service but all were good if not a little above average. I started with an Old Fashioned which was sadly, quite watered down. The table started with the Bricklayer Nachos which were good and a pretty decent size portion too. For my dinner I had the Mediterranean Grilled Cheese - feta and mozzarella cheese, olive tapenade, baby spinach and portabello mushroom pressed in a piece of flatbread. The first few bites were enjoyable but about a quarter of the way into it I realized how SALTY it was. Unfortunately, it was a little one-note and better in concept than in execution in my opinion. Our waitress was pleasant and split the check 6-ways without us even having to ask, which I thought was really nice of her. Atmosphere was unique but nothing worth coming back for. Also, worth noting - The Bricks doesn't have its own parking lot so you'll have to find street parking (good luck), a paid parking lot lot or one of the local parking garages. read more

The Bricks was pretty good for a first-time visit on a Sunday after staying up into the wee hours Sat. night. It was a gorgeous day, so we wanted to sit outside. At first, the tempo and volume of the speakers, while were expertly spaced so as to not allow for any quiet zones, was a little pervasive, but we got used to it. The music itself was pretty good downtempo sometimes, a little trance-y others... just really, really loud. We brought our dog, and the server offered her water, always a nice gesture. We ordered iced coffee - woof, for $4 it was flat, watery, and altogether just not very tasty - and our food. I got the hangover, or the cure, something along those lines, sandwich. It had a fried egg, bacon, greens, and it was amazing, and super messy once I broke the egg, but that's ok. Just ask for extra napkins. The highlight of the experience was the food, so that's good. Along with that, the soup of the day, tomato bisque with basil from the rooftop garden - I mean, come on, how cool and hipster twee. The soup was really tasty. Overall, service was a little slow, but nothing terrible. Prices were ok and pretty reasonable, minus the coffee. Ambiance? I mean, we sat outdoors, and for some reason, I didn't go inside during our visit. I have friends who are regulars and enjoy going for the live music some nights, and while we were there, a lot of patrons inside were watching the x-games. I've eaten at Bricks three times (on business trips) and have been AMAZED every time! First, the atmosphere is amazingly warm and welcoming. It feels like an episode of cheers, but you are a main character. (Yea... I'm dating myself a bit!) And, the food is fantastic!!! The staff here take their role seriously which means great service to start off. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and filled with character. Most of all the menu is robust with options from sandwiches to salads and creative plates to unique beverages. We visited for brunch which wasn't the best because it's mostly a lunch and dinner place. They did have an egg sandwich on the menu but that's as far as breakfast goes. I started off with a Liquid Heroin, coffee with mocha and vanilla, and it surely was addictive! For my meal I ordered the Bricks salad, added some pulled pork, and wow was I impressed. I thoroughly enjoy going to the Bricks. It's unique atmosphere with cheap, but tasty, food options combine for a great experience. The term hipster is thrown around a lot these days and while you may be greeted and surrounded by people in skinny jeans, wearing Toms shoes, IMAX glasses, and an extra piercing, you are treated no differently. I always feel warmly welcomed and entertained. As it does have a large bar, it may get rowdy in the evenings, but the Bricks maintains a family-friendly atmosphere. I ate the Bird and Pig meal once, very very good, and the breakfast bagel the next time. The fiancee had black bean soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Very tasty combination.
